Nobody was stopping Angel Reese on the glass on Monday night. 

Reese racked up a ridiculous 26 rebounds while leading the Atlanta Dream to a 78-71 win over the Los Angeles Sparks at Crypto.com Arena. That set the WNBA’s new single-game rebounds record, surpassing the 24 that Hall of Famer Chamique Holdsclaw pulled down back in 2003 when she was with the Washington Mystics. 

“Anything that goes up is mine,” Reese said on NBC. “You just have to have that mindset, you know?”

Reese was already tied for the single-game rebounding record among active players, too, after she grabbed 22 in a game during her rookie season in 2024 with the Chicago Sky. Jonquel Jones has secured 22 rebounds in a single contest twice in her career, too.

And with her 26 boards on Monday, Reese also set the WNBA’s single-season rebounding record, too. She flew past Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson, who had 451 rebounds during the 2024 campaign. Reese is now up to 458 rebounds on the year. She was already second on that list, too, with the 446 boards she had as a rookie.

Reese just barely got to 26 rebounds in the game, securing a missed free throw in the final minute of the contest. She scored a bucket with just less than 14 seconds left in the game, too, to officially record her 27th double-double of the season. That’s the most from any player in the league, and two shy of breaking the single-season double-double record.

Reese finished with 11 points and three assists. She shot 4-of-14 from the field in the win, which marked the franchise’s ninth straight over the Sparks. Reese is averaging 12 rebounds per game, nearly a full board more than anyone else in the league. Dallas Wings forward Jessica Shepard is the only other player in the WNBA averaging double-digit rebounds this season with 11.1 per night.

Allisha Gray led Atlanta with 20 points on Monday, and Rhyne Howard added 18 points. The Dream now sit at 25-13 on the year, just barely ahead of the Indiana Fever for fourth in the league standings. The Dream have already secured a playoff spot, though they’ve not made it out of the opening round of the postseason since 2018.

Reese and the Dream have six games left in the regular season, leaving her plenty of time to pad her lead in the single-season rebounding race.

Virender Sehwag is widely regarded as one of the greatest batters India has ever produced. The former India opener played numerous match-winning innings for the country and shattered several records during his illustrious career. After making his ODI debut against Pakistan in 1999, Sehwag went on to represent India in 374 international matches, scoring an impressive 17,253 runs across all three formats. His tally included 72 half-centuries and 38 international hundreds. Apart from his prolific run-scoring, Sehwag was also renowned for his fearless approach and trademark strokeplay.

While Sehwag has retired from international cricket, his legacy continues through his son, Aryavir Sehwag. Currently representing West Delhi Lions in the Delhi Premier League (DPL), Aryavir recently gave fans a glimpse of his father’s batting style.

The young batter was seen replicating some of Sehwag’s iconic shots, including the square drive and cover drive, leaving fans impressed. The DPL also shared a comparison video on its social media platforms, highlighting the striking similarities between the batting techniques of father and son.

Talking about DPL, West Delhi Lions suffered a 21-run loss against Central Delhi Kings on Saturday. Batting first, Central Delhi Kings posted a mammoth 232/8 in 20 overs, with their top and middle order producing some excellent strokeplay.

Opener Siddharth Joon continued his impressive run of form, smashing 33 off just 17 balls (with two fours and four sixes). Samarth Seth then added further momentum with a quickfire 37 off 14 deliveries (with five fours and two sixes).

Chasing 233, West Delhi Lions made a flying start, reaching 71/2 in just 4.5 overs. The Lions then suffered another setback with the dismissal of Aaryavir Sehwag.Krish Yadav (46 in 26 balls, with seven fours and a six) and Ankit Kumar steadied the innings and launched a counter-attack, putting together a valuable 59-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Their partnership gave West Delhi Lions hope of pulling off a challenging chase.However, Tejas Baroka broke the stand by dismissing Krish Yadav for a well-made 46 off 26 balls. Yadav’s dismissal put the Lions under pressure, but Ankit continued to keep his team in the hunt with some aggressive batting.

Ankit eventually fell for a brilliant 61 off 30 balls (with four boundaries and five sixes), leaving West Delhi Lions in a difficult position with the required run rate climbing.

The Lions could not maintain the momentum in the final overs and eventually finished on 211/8 in their 20 overs, falling 21 runs short of the target.

Duleep Trophy Live Score: Out-of-favour India all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed hit a career-best first-class score of 167 and then picked up three wickets with his orthodox left-arm spin as East Zone enforced the follow-on on minnows North East Zone on the second day of the Duleep Trophy quarter-final on Monday.

East scored a healthy 467 in their first innings before bowling out North East for a meagre 111. Tripura medium pacer Abhijit Sarkar took 5 for 20 in 9.5 overs, while Shahbaz finished with figures of 3 for 20.

After being asked to follow on, North East reached 7 for no loss, but still needed another 349 runs to avoid an innings defeat.

Shahbaz makes most of the opportunity

Shahbaz, who resumed at his overnight score of 100, used the long handle to good effect to score 167 off 244 balls. His innings included 17 fours and four towering sixes.

He added 103 runs with Anukul Roy, who scored 37, for the seventh wicket and remained the last man to be dismissed.

North East collapse after promising start

North East initially looked impressive, reaching 72 for 2 before a dramatic collapse saw them lose eight wickets for just 39 runs.

Abhijit, the right-arm slow-medium bowler who clocks an average speed in the early 120s, prompted wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan to stand up to the stumps. He largely bowled incoming deliveries because of his open-chested action.

East eye victory inside three days

The wickets fell at regular intervals, with only opener Arpit Bhatewara, who scored 32, and Rongsen Jonathan, who made 21, managing to cross the 20-run mark.

Six North East batters failed to reach double figures, while three of them did not even open their accounts.

It was another one-sided contest that highlighted the gulf in quality between the two teams. In all likelihood, East will wrap up the proceedings well inside the third day unless weather plays spoilsport.

Alabama is still alive in the 2026 Little League World Series, but there is no longer any room for error.

Phenix City improved to 2-1 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania with a 6-5 extra-inning win over Mid-Atlantic, completing a comeback from a 5-0 deficit in the process, on Monday, Aug. 24. The victory kept alive Alabama’s first Little League World Series appearance since 1999.

Next for Alabama is a rematch against its tournament-opening opponent, the Northwest representatives from Tacoma, Washington at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Alabama will continue to move through the elimination side of the U.S. bracket after suffering a 2-0 loss to Washington on Wednesday, August 19. Washington fell 5-0 to Nevada, the Mountain representatives, over the weekend.

A win on Tuesday would see Alabama advance to another elimination game on Wednesday, Aug. 26 against the winner of Great Lakes and Metro, which are represented by West Side Little League (Hamilton, Ohio) and Bayonne Central Little League (Bayonne, New Jersey), respectively.

Survive that, and Phenix City would play again Thursday, August 27 for a spot in Saturday’s U.S. championship game.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso defended goalkeeper Robert Sanchez after two errors in the Blues’ Premier League win over Fulham.

The Alonso era began with an all-out attacking display and excellent performances from the front three of Joao Pedro, Cole Palmer and £117m summer signing Morgan Rogers, who all got on the scoresheet at Craven Cottage.

But Chelsea were also exposed defensively and Sanchez was twice punished for mistakes as Fulham fought back.

Josh King fired home an equaliser after Pedro’s opener, with his tightly-angled shot inexplicably getting past Sanchez, before the Spaniard spilled Timothy Castagne’s shot in the second half and parried it straight into the path of Gonzalo Garcia, who did not hesitate to knock in the rebound. Chelsea clung on to win 3-2 but Sanchez’s nervy performance at the back was cause for concern.

But Alonso refused to criticise him, saying afterwards: “It’s not about talking about individuals, their situations. It’s about understanding what it takes.

“For sure, the first goal we can do better than that. But it’s a process. It’s day one. And normally it’s easier to learn with three points.”

He added: “To win games away you need to roll up you sleeves, fight and defend your goal and it’s something we need to do for the future. It’s a good first day for us.”

But Jamie Carragher, speaking on Sky Sports, said Chelsea had “concerns defensively”.

He said: “They conceded a couple of goals and you look at the goalkeeper, they have to sort the goalkeeper issue out because it’s going to come back to haunt them this season, as it did tonight.

“We’re not saying anything we haven’t said for the past three seasons. Chelsea will never win the league with Sanchez in goal – impossible, it can’t happen.

“When you think of the teams who have won the title, the last three have all changed their goalkeeper; Pep brings Ederson in, Alisson comes in for Liverpool and Arsenal don’t win the league if they have Ramsdale in goal and not Raya. Impossible.”

Gary Neville added: “I don’t know if Emi Martinez is available or not but someone like that needs to come in at Chelsea, because that [the goalkeeper situation] will undermine everything they do. The positives for Fulham came from the encouragement Sanchez gave them with the goals. The goals were both mistakes. It’s a problem.

“You cannot take a chance with a goalkeeper. I said before, it’s the most difficult position on the pitch. It’s the one that carries the most scrutiny. It’s the one that if you have got a goalkeeper that’s making mistakes and he’s anxious, it will undermine everything that you’re trying to do.

“And I think in the next seven or eight days, Alonso may have to just make a decision that he needs to bring in an experienced goalkeeper, because his job is to be successful for Chelsea.”

And, although Vaughan said it is an “awful look for the England team once again”, he would “feel” for Carse if he is made an example of following the other events of the past year.

“I hope Carse is getting good support around him,” said Vaughan. “He is a character who can be a little bit loose and if you give him a bit of rope he’ll take a huge amount of it. He needs people around him who are giving him better advice.

“I would feel for Carse if he is the one who takes the rap for what has happened over the past nine months, but somewhere, somehow, something has to be done to set a precedent that they won’t stand for that behaviour any more.”

On Monday, the England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed that the Regulator was investigating and, as a result, 31-year-old Carse had been removed from the squad for the second Test, with his place going to Sonny Baker.

Soon after that, Derbyshire Police said a man in his 30s was arrested on Saturday night, only to be de-arrested a short time later.

“A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in Derby city centre on Saturday night, 22 August,” said a police statement.

“However the man was de-arrested shortly afterwards having agreed to leave the area.”

This new controversy comes only one game into Joe Root’s second spell as Test captain.

Before his first game back in charge, an innings defeat of Pakistan at Headingley, Root called on his players to be “good role models and good human beings”.

Now, Root will speak to the media on Tuesday to address the fallout from the Carse incident.

“Joe Root will be absolutely fuming with this,” said Vaughan. “He will have been hoping to arrive at Lord’s to talk about cricket and his team.

“Now he will have to answer all these questions about discipline, curfews and drinking culture.

“Everything we thought has been brushed under the carpet and moved to one side, we are pretty much back to square one.”

Former England spinner Phil Tufnell agreed with Vaughan that a substantial punishment is the only way to ensure players fall in line.

Tufnell, who had multiple brushes with authority during his international career, said: “If you want to stop this, the only way you stop it is say: ‘You’re not playing for five games.’

“I was made to stand in the corner during my England career, was told: ‘You’re not available for selection.’ It will soon stop. It would be cleared up in a jiffy.”

Carse was in the England squad for the first Test but not selected in the final XI. It is unlikely he would have been in the team for the second Test at Lord’s, unless one of England’s four frontline seamers from Headingley suffered a fitness issue.

Since Carse made his Test debut in October 2024, no England bowler has more Test wickets than his 58. He was the only member of England’s attack to play all five matches in the Ashes series in Australia.

However, he was unavailable at the beginning of the home summer because of an injury, and being removed from the squad for the second Test could push him further down the pecking order.

“Carse is 31 and coming to the autumn of his career,” said Tufnell. “You need to keep yourself fit.

“You want to be bowling these long spells for England and making a name for yourself.

“It’s probably best not to be doing that [going out so late]. Some of the best in the business have tried and failed at doing that.”

Day 18 of Cleveland Browns training camp took place Monday, August 24. The Browns officially named their starting quarterback for the regular season.

1. Watson’s First Practice as Starter: As you all know by now, early in the day, Deshaun Watson was named the Browns’ starting quarterback. Prior to practice, Watson had this to say about the way he handled being booed a couple days ago:

“My emotions got the best of me … my comments weren’t intended to go at any of the fans in the city … I understand the frustration.”

Practice went as it often does for Watson. He had some sharp throws, but then there is one like this, where he overthrows WR Jerry Jeudy and should have been intercepted:

2. Maliek Collins Returns: Earlier today, the Browns activated DT Maliek Collins from the injured list. He was looking very good in individual drills. Even though the Browns have battled some defensive injuries in camp, getting Collins back is huge for the defensive line, as he expects to step right in to the starting lineup again.

3. An Encouraging Sign for Carson? It feels like LB Carson Schwesinger has been sidelined all of camp with whatever minor injury he must have. He was dressed for practice on Monday, though, and did a little bit of individual work, which is usually a returning player’s first step before returning to team drills.

4. Defensive End Updates: With DE Alex Wright on season-ending injured reserve, DE Isaiah McGuire is now the starting defensive end opposite DE Jared Verse. Cleveland has tried to do a couple of things to address their depth issues on the edge. They signed veteran DE Derek Barnett, and DT Mike Hall has been getting a lot of work in on the edge.

5. Ward With the Punch Out: I feel like we’ve been seeing quite a bit of this from CB Denzel Ward this camp — is he working on ball denial after the catch at this stage of his career?

6. Divided Reps: From now on, it’s basically QB Deshaun Watson with the ones, and QB Shedeur Sanders with the twos. QB Dillon Gabriel and QB Taylen Green should each play a half in the final preseason game on Thursday evening.

7. Brownies: RB Quinshon Judkins returned to practice too. … WR Cedric Tillman returned to practice, but WR Isaiah Bond is in the concussion protocol. … LT Spencer Fano sat out, dealing with a minor injury.

8. Up Next: Cleveland has one more training camp practice on Tuesday before playing their final preseason game on Thursday. Roster cuts are due a few days after that, so tomorrow will be the final training camp report of the summer.

Tim Bradley has questioned Rolando Romero’s fighter-trainer relationship with Ismael Salas following his majority decision defeat to Teofimo Lopez this past weekend.

The 30-year-old made a first defence of his WBA world title at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena, only to be convincingly outboxed by welterweight debutant Lopez.

While the scorecards would suggest otherwise, many felt ‘The Takeover’ won a clear decision by outlanding, and largely outclassing, his low-volume opponent.

The key moment of success for ‘Rolly’ came in round five, when he hurt Lopez with an overhand right but was unable to get his man out of there, or in fact score a knockdown.

As a result, Lopez became a three-division world champion while Romero suffered his first defeat since getting stopped in eight rounds by Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz.

That setback came in 2024, after the American had moved up to 140lbs in the wake of his sixth-round stoppage loss to Gervonta Davis around two years earlier.

Back then, Romero was working with head coach Cromwell ‘Bullet’ Gordon but is now trained by Salas, who has been widely credited for improving Rolly’s technical ability and defensive skills.

While speaking on his YouTube channel, though, Hall of Famer Bradley made the argument that Romero no longer has faith in his punch resistance.

“Rolly is a defective fighter. I’ve told y’all already – he’s not skilled; he’s not that good. All he does is have power.

“You think you’re gonna outbox Teofimo Lopez? You think you literally, clearly won the fight? Get the hell out of here, Rolly.

“Look at how Rolly used to be when he was with Bullet. He was aggressive; he was coming forward; he was a damn dog.

“Then he got his ass knocked out by Gervonta Davis. [Then] he got his ass knocked out by Pitbull Cruz. He been fighting on skates ever since. He don’t believe in this [his chin].”

While Salas oversaw a unanimous decision victory over Ryan Garcia in May 2025, it did seem that Romero was struggling to follow instructions from his trainer against Lopez.
