The Vikings’ Sam Darnold Decision Sees the Other Shoe Drop
The Vikings’ Sam Darnold decision made at least some sense, largely due to the team’s fondness for compensatory picks and the young lad taking over the QB1 job. But, to be sure, Minnesota’s front office picked wrong, contributing to firing Kwesi Adofo-Mensah.
Seattle signed Darnold to a three-year contract for a touch above $100 million. Doing so now looks like a stroke of genius since the Seahawks are coming off a Super Bowl victory. The Vikings, meanwhile, finished outside of the final tournament as a 9-8 team, a modest record that was primarily due to the quarterback spot being so poor. Is there any upside to uplift from the wreckage of that decision?
The Vikings’ Sam Darnold Decision and the New Lineman
Letting Darnold slip away involved getting onto the comp picks board. Better yet, the Vikings earned the top compensatory pick. These extra draft selections start seeing daylight at the end of the 3rd, meaning the best one hits at No. 97 overall. Minnesota got that draft selection.
Backup offensive lineman Caleb Tiernan ended up being the choice at that spot. Many praised the move. After all, the draft prophets and prognosticators believed that Mr. Tiernan would get chosen earlier, meaning Minnesota got some nice value by taking the Northwestern tackle who is believed to be an NFL guard.
On the NFL’s website, Lance Zierlein argued that Tiernan should have gotten scooped up in the 2nd or the 3rd. Snagging him with a draft choice that has been tacked onto the very end of the 3rd represents nice bit of value for the Vikings.
“Highly experienced college tackle who is likely to kick inside due to a lack of length that affects his protection projection,” Zierlein writes. “Tiernan is tall but carries the denseness of frame and core strength of a guard. Feet feature good initial quickness and he takes excellent angles on the move. He often finds early positioning advantages as a base blocker but lacks the anchor and play strength to consistently fortify/sustain. Leaky edges in pass pro will be less concerning with smaller spaces to patrol, while his punch timing and lateral quickness provide advantages. ‘Solid’ feels like the ceiling for Tiernan as a guard/swing tackle who can eventually elevate into a starting role.”
Since the pick took place, Caleb Tiernan has been forced to defend his (supposedly) short arms. And, in fairness, there’s some merit in the topic. Holding off a pass rusher like Danielle Hunter or Aidan Hutchinson is easier if the offensive tackle offers similar length as those fantastic pass rushers. The trenches are a hand battle, folks.
Writing off Tiernan, though, would be foolish. Or, at least, insisting that he’s guaranteed to be a guard just doesn’t make any sense. The massive lineman may have shorter arms than desired, but Tiernan is a hulking 6’8″ and 325 pounds. So, too, is he a very good athlete who has a brain in his head. Oh, and he appears a touch tired of defending his arms, possibly putting a bit more motivation into his work.
No doubt, the Vikings’ Sam Darnold decision was a brutal one. Quite possibly, the miss here is the single most consequential decision in Adofo-Mensah getting canned. Seattle got a franchise passer who is good enough to win a Super Bowl; Minnesota got a late-3rd that got sunk into an offensive lineman. At the end of the day, that franchise-level miss can’t be held against the kid.
Caleb Tiernan will be looking to prove his value sooner rather than later. Doing so will mean lessening the sting for what was an awful misstep from the Minnesota Vikings. He has expressed admiration for Brian O’Neill and noted his enthusiasm about learning from Minnesota’s right tackle.
The rookie lineman is 23.

Canada’s Dabrowski loses Wimbledon women’s doubles final
The third time was not the charm for Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski.
The Ottawa native, along with Brazil’s Luisa Stefani, fell in the women’s doubles final at Wimbledon on Sunday after a 6-3, 7-5 loss against Hanyu Guo and Kristina Mladenovic.
It goes down as Dabrowski’s third runner-up finish in women’s doubles at Wimbledon, after finishing second in 2019 alongside Xu Yifan and in 2024 with Erin Routliffe.
Dabrowski and Stefani were the second seeds in the tournament and had yet to lose a set at the grass-court Grand Slam before Sunday’s defeat to the 10th-seeded Chinese-French pairing.
While Dabrowski and Stefani entered the matchup looking for a fourth tournament win of the season, it was their first Grand Slam final of the year after losing in the semifinals at the Australian Open and the French Open.
Mladenovic won a seventh career Grand Slam women’s doubles title and first at the All England Club.
She has won the French Open doubles tournament four times and the Australian Open twice with different partners but lost her only previous Wimbledon final in 2014.
“It’s really a dream,” said the French player, who missed much of last year with an injury. “I definitely cannot believe what just happened now.”
Mladenovic and Guo only started playing together this year, and it’s a first Grand Slam title for the Chinese player.

Marlins hope to finish strong first half by avoiding sweep vs. Guardians
Jul 11, 2026; Miami, Florida, USA; Miami Marlins catcher Joe Mack (80) reacts to his double against the Cleveland Guardians during the seventh inning at loanDepot Park. Mandatory Credit: Rhona Wise-Imagn Images Cleveland Guardians left-hander Joey Cantillo, who has a 1.80 ERA in two July starts, isn’t easy to hit.
Cantillo, who will start against the host Miami Marlins on Sunday as the Guardians look for a three-game sweep, has an over-the-top delivery that gives batters fits. In fact, from last year to this season, his hard-hit rate has dropped from 41.8% to 36.5%.
Cantillo is 7-4 with a 3.66 ERA this season, his third in the majors. He’s already set a career high in wins and looks for his eighth in his first career start against the Marlins.
As for Cleveland’s offense, third baseman Jose Ramirez and left fielder Angel Martinez are on the injured list, along with their combined 21 homers, and Guardians manager Stephen Vogt can’t wait to get them back.
“We haven’t played our best baseball (without them),” Vogt said. “But we’ve found ways to win.”
Without Ramirez and Martinez, other Guardians players have emerged, including rookie right fielder Chase DeLauter, who has 10 homers, 45 RBIs and a .279 batting average, best among everyday starters on the team.
“Chase is learning faster than most,” Vogt said. “Good hitters foul (tough) pitches off, and Chase has done that.”
DeLauter, Cleveland’s first-round pick (No. 16 overall) in 2022, is part of a stellar rookie class for the Guardians. That class includes starting second baseman Travis Bazzana (first overall pick in 2024) and starting pitcher Parker Messick (second-rounder in 2022), both of whom are among Cleveland’s three players selected to the All-Star Game.
Then again, using rookies in key places is necessary for the Guardians, who have the lowest payroll in the major leagues ($80 million).
The Marlins, meanwhile, have the second-lowest payroll ($80.8 million).
That being said, the Guardians and Marlins would both be in the playoffs if the season ended today. And, by contrast, the Mets — who have the highest payroll in baseball at $328.7 million — are essentially out of contention this year.
After initially not announcing a starter, Miami will start right-hander Tyler Phillips (2-3, 3.28) in his ongoing conversion from reliever to starter.
After his first 15 appearances this season came out of the bullpen, he’s started eight of his last nine outings. By now, he’s essentially completed the transformation, throwing a season-high 97 pitches in his fourth and final June start.
The 28-year-old’s two July starts have been a mixed bag. After he was tagged for five runs on seven hits over 3 1/3 innings against the Athletics on July 3, he delivered five shutout innings and was the winning pitcher in Wednesday’s 2-0 win over the Mariners.
“Really nice bounce-back for Tyler,” Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said after Phillips’ last start. “As he continues to make this transition back to starting, filling up the zone (is key) because he’s got so many weapons to go to. I think that’s kind of the ticket is being on attack and giving himself count leverage.”
Since Phillips will be on three days’ rest after a 71-pitch outing, the Marlins bullpen will need to do some heavier lifting than normal in the final game before the All-Star break.
On paper, that shouldn’t be a problem for the Marlins, who have a 3.72 bullpen ERA, seventh-best in the majors.

Meanwhile, the transfer market continues to heat up. Here are the most important stories of the day.
Juve, Carnevali makes a move for Pellegrino
Juventus have made their first move to sign Mateo Pellegrino, submitting an initial official offer to Parma for the Argentine striker. According to Tuttosport, the Bianconeri are looking for a new centre-forward, and the Argentine’s profile has become the top priority for the management led by Carnevali.
Juventus’ offer is a loan with an obligation to buy set at €30 million, which would be triggered if the club finishes in 10th place in Serie A. A condition considered easy to meet, but one that does not convince Parma. The Emilian club would prefer to receive the €30 million immediately, without waiting for the permanent transfer clause to kick in. The negotiations therefore remain open, with Juventus now having to assess their next move.
Milan, Cardinale digs in over Rabiot
The future of Adrien Rabiot continues to be a talking point. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, despite recent rumours linking him with Napoli, Rabiot has no intention of forcing a move away. The midfielder signed a contract last summer until 2028, and his departure could only materialise in the face of a particularly significant offer.
Gerry Cardinale has reportedly already expressed his desire to keep the Frenchman, ruling out the possibility of a sale that could strengthen Napoli. In addition, coach Amorim considers Rabiot a key part of his project, envisioning him in the holding midfield role in his 3-4-2-1 system.
Inter, Doué is the alternative to Khalaili
Inter continue to wait for updates on Khalaili’s condition, with the player set to undergo further medical tests tomorrow. According to Sky Sport, the Nerazzurri remain confident and hope the checks will yield a positive result, allowing the deal to be completed.
At the moment, it is still too early to assess alternative scenarios. However, if the deal for Khalaili does not go through, Inter have already opened initial exploratory talks for Doué, a profile they could return to in the coming hours.
Napoli, Zeballos is getting closer
Napoli are close to completing the signing of Exequiel Zeballos. According to Tuttosport, talks with Boca Juniors are now in the final details, and the Azzurri are ready to secure one of the most promising talents in Argentine football. Boca Juniors are expected to receive around €10 million. As for the player, a long-term contract until 2031 is ready, with an initial salary of around €1.4 million per season.
The deal, again according to the newspaper, has entered its final stage, and Napoli are aiming to sort out the last details to complete the arrival of the Argentine winger.
Roma, D’Amico studies the formula for Garnacho
Roma continue to track Alejandro Garnacho as a reinforcement for the transfer market. According to Il Messaggero, the Giallorossi have identified the Argentine and Diego Moreira as their main targets to strengthen the squad. As for Garnacho, news emerged in recent hours of his exclusion from Chelsea’s training camp. The Blues are aiming for a permanent sale, but Roma consider the valuation of around €45-50 million too high.
For this reason, sporting director D’Amico would like to structure the deal along the lines of the Malen transfer, including conditions that would trigger an obligation to buy, such as a certain number of goals or Roma qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
Lazio, Doekhi emerges as a defensive option
Lazio continue to work in the market in search of defensive reinforcements following the major departures of Romagnoli, who moved to Saudi Arabia, and Gila, fresh from signing with Milan. With the market virtually at a standstill and the need to sell before thinking about any incomings, the Biancocelesti are looking into a free transfer signing. According to Fabrizio Romano, Lazio have set their sights on Danilho Doekhi.
The defender, formerly of Union Berlin, represents a free-agent opportunity and is on Lazio’s shortlist, with initial contacts already having been made.
Fiorentina, gap with Trabzonspor over Oulai
Among the profiles Fiorentina are following for midfield is Christ Inao Oulai, currently at Trabzonspor. According to La Nazione, the Viola have repeatedly stated that the player is not a concrete transfer target, but reports from Turkey continue to link him with Paratici’s side.
Trabzonspor value Oulai at around €40 million, a price considered very high. Fiorentina, on the other hand, could go a little above €20 million, leaving a significant gap between the parties.

Major Talking Points as Argentina Beat Switzerland to Set Up World Cup Semi-final Clash with England
Argentina booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a dramatic 3-1 extra-time victory over Switzerland in Kansas City, with Julian Alvarez’s stunning strike proving the turning point in a tense quarter-final.
The reigning world champions will now face England in a blockbuster last-four clash after surviving a determined Swiss performance.
Here are the major talking points from the thrilling encounter:
Alvarez’s Moment of Magic Sends Argentina Through
With the match level at 1-1 and heading towards penalties, Julian Alvarez produced a moment of brilliance in extra time. The Manchester City forward curled a superb 25-yard strike beyond goalkeeper Gregor Kobel to give Argentina the lead.
Lautaro Martinez later sealed the victory on the counter-attack as Switzerland searched desperately for another equaliser.
Embolo’s Red Card Sparks Huge Controversy
The biggest talking point came midway through the second half when Switzerland striker Breel Embolo was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.
Initially, Leandro Paredes was booked for what appeared to be a foul on Embolo. However, after a VAR review under the mistaken identity rule, the referee overturned the booking after replays showed Embolo had simulated contact.
The Swiss striker, who had already been cautioned earlier, received a second yellow card for diving and was sent off in tears, leaving Switzerland to play with 10 men for the remainder of the match.
Switzerland Impress Despite Heartbreak
Switzerland produced one of their best performances of the tournament and looked the better side for long periods.
Dan Ndoye cancelled out Alexis Mac Allister’s early opener with a well-worked equaliser in the 67th minute after combining with Ricardo Rodriguez before finishing through Emiliano Martinez’s legs.
Even after the dismissal of Embolo, Switzerland defended bravely but were eventually undone in extra time.
Messi Creates History Again
Although Lionel Messi failed to score for the first time at this World Cup, the Argentina captain still made history.
His corner led to Mac Allister’s opening goal, making Messi the first player ever to register 10 assists in FIFA World Cup matches.
Argentina Continue Incredible Scoring Run
Argentina also set a new World Cup record after scoring at least twice for the 11th consecutive World Cup match.
The South Americans have now scored in 15 straight World Cup matches, breaking Uruguay’s previous record for the longest run of scoring multiple goals in the competition.
England Await in Mouth-Watering Semi-final
Argentina’s reward is a heavyweight semi-final against England on Wednesday, 15 July, in Atlanta.
The winner of that clash will advance to the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, where either France or Spain will be waiting. With both teams packed with world-class talent, the meeting promises to be one of the biggest matches of the tournament.

McGregor’s early injury ends great UFC 329 card on sour note
Heading into the main event of UFC 329, the card was absolutely awesome and among the best UFC events of 2026.
In the first 13 fights, there were 10 stoppages, including Paddy Pimblett submitting Benoit Saint Denis in the co-main event in what was one of the most violent submissions we have ever seen inside the Octagon, as the Scouser choked the Frenchman unconscious with a D’Arce choke.
It was about just as good a lead-in to the main event as the UFC could have ever asked for, as Pimblett is, in many ways, the fighter who the promotion believes can be the face of the UFC going forward.
With the first 13 undercard fights out of the way, then came the main event, the fight that everyone was looking forward to watching: the highly anticipated rematch between UFC superstar Conor McGregor and Max Holloway.
Stepping into the Octagon for the first time in five years since he broke his leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, the return of “The Mac” was billed as one of the biggest fights in UFC history, with the promotion breaking the gate record with $26.43 million in tickets sold at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
It was a rematch 13 years in the making, as McGregor previously beat Holloway via unanimous decision in August 2013. It was a fight everyone had been looking forward to for so many years.
Then the fight actually happened.
Right away, McGregor came out and threw a kick at Holloway, falling to the floor. He got up, and then he fell again. Holloway then began pointing to McGregor’s leg and letting referee Mike Beltran know that something was wrong.
McGregor got back up, but soon he stumbled, and it was clear that he was compromised.
Just 1:09 into the fight, it ended, with Holloway winning via injury TKO.
For such a big fight, this was by far the worst possible ending. It was literally the worst-case scenario for the UFC, which now has questions to answer about what happened to McGregor.
Was he hurt coming into the fight? Did the UFC know? These are questions that fans are asking.
You cannot blame the fans for booing after the fight ended in such an anticlimactic fashion. After all, people travelled from all over the world to go to Las Vegas, spending thousands of dollars on tickets and hotel rooms to watch the return of McGregor after five years away.
But the fight literally ended in 69 seconds.
Now we have to wonder what the UFC will do next.
Holloway said he wants to run it back and do a trilogy fight between the two after they split the first two fights 1-1. But McGregor turns 38 this year, and he just blew his knee out. We know he is worth hundreds of millions of dollars, so does it make sense for him to fight again when he doesn’t have to? Not really.
According to UFC president Dana White, the doctors believe that McGregor tore his ACL, but an MRI will confirm it. Without the UFC knowing exactly what’s going on with McGregor and the extent of his injury, we don’t know what his future in the promotion will be. But given his age, it’s not ideal for him to suffer such a potentially devastating injury.
Don’t be surprised at all if this is the last time you ever see McGregor set foot into the Octagon. He doesn’t need this anymore, and after what happened in this fight, it will be hard for the UFC to trust him headlining another card, because the fans are very, very angry about how this fight ended.
The good news for the UFC is that Pimblett had a massive win, and in some ways, he emerged as the star of the event even though Holloway was technically the biggest winner on the card as he beat McGregor in the headliner.
But the way that Pimblett beat Saint Denis was absolutely electric, and it puts him right back at the top of the UFC lightweight division and close to getting a rematch against UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje after the two fought in a five-round war earlier this year at UFC 324.
In addition, flyweight Brandon Royval had another incredible performance as he submitted Lone’er Kavanagh in the Fight of the Night. It was Royval’s sixth Fight of the Night bonus in the UFC, making him arguably the most exciting fighter in the sport right now, pound-for-pound. By taking out a top prospect in Kavanagh, Royval cemented himself as a flyweight great.
Mario Bautista, too, had a standout performance, as he defeated Cory Sandhagen in their rematch to collect the biggest win of his career. As well, Robert Whittaker had a successful debut in the UFC light heavyweight division when he defeated Nikita Krylov via third-round TKO.
And finally, heavyweight prospect Gable Steveson finished Elisha Ellison in his UFC debut. Just 26 years of age, Steveson is a former Olympic Gold Medalist in freestyle wrestling; he was on the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad in the NFL, and he also competed in WWE. Training with UFC legend Jon Jones, Steveson has the potential to be one of the best heavyweights in the sport.
Overall, UFC 329 was an incredible card. There was so much to like about the event. But the way McGregor vs. Holloway 2 ended just makes everything feel like such a waste.

Senegal dismisses men’s football coach Pape Thiaw after World Cup exit
DAKAR, Senegal — Senegal fired its men’s football coach Pape Thiaw, according to a statement issued by the national federation on Sunday.
The Senegalese Football Federation added that Thiaw’s technical staff was also dismissed.
The decision followed Senegal’s elimination in the round of 16 at the ongoing World Cup.
“After an evaluation of the performance of the national team and its prospects, the Executive Committee believes that a change is necessary in the interest of Senegalese football,” the federation said.
Thiaw, 45, was appointed in 2024 and led the West African nation to a disputed continental title in Morocco earlier this year before the victory was overturned by the Confederation of African Football. Senegal has approached the Court of Arbitration about appealing the decision.
Senegal was eliminated from the World Cup by Belgium despite leading 2-0 until the 83rd minute. The team also came close to elimination in the group stage after losses to France and Norway.

Padres overcome pitching problems to beat Blue Jays
The San Diego Padres staked starter Walker Buehler to a 2-0 lead heading into the top of the second inning against the Toronto Blue Jays. He immediately surrendered four runs and the Padres headed back to their dugout for their turn at the plate in the bottom of the inning, trailing the Blue Jays, 4-2. Both teams traded blows with the game being tied two times at 4-4 and 7-7 before Ty France hit a decisive solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead San Diego to an 8-7 win at Petco Park on Saturday night.
Buehler had his third consecutive disappointing outing. He allowed four runs on three hits with four walks and one strikeout over just two innings. Matt Waldron who just returned to the Padres, was forced into action and was effective over three innings. He did not allow a run and limited the Blue Jays to just two hits. San Diego held a 7-4 lead when Waldron left the game, but Bradgley Rodriguez came on to pitch for Yuki Matsui with two on in the top of the sixth inning and surrendered a three-run home run to Vladamir Guerrero Jr. which tied the game at 7-7.

France responded in the bottom of the sixth inning when he connected on a solo home run with two outs in the inning that put the Padres ahead by a run. Both teams failed to add to their run totals over the next two innings and Mason Miller came on to close the game and ensure the win for San Diego.
The Padres will look to win the series against the Blue Jays to head into the All-Star break with a .500 record today at 1:10 p.m.

‘He doesn’t know what it takes’: Jude Bellingham hits back at England coach’s ‘not happy with performance’ criticism after Norway win | Football News
Jude Bellingham appeared surprised after learning that England manager Thomas Tuchel was unhappy with the team’s performance despite their 2-1 extra-time win over Norway in the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals.England booked their place in the last four in Miami, with Bellingham scoring both goals. While the players celebrated on the pitch, Tuchel made it clear in his post-match interview that he was not satisfied with the overall display. The England manager said: “Not happy with the performance…“We made life very, very difficult for ourselves today.”“The result is fantastic, we’re in the last four it’s amazing, but we’re not happy with the performance. The commitment is there but we made life very difficult for us in the way we played, how we played.”“Sloppy, lot of technical mistakes, not fast enough, not repetitive enough. We were lucky today.” Tuchel said after the match.Tuchel was then asked if the pressure of the occasion had affected his players. He rejected the suggestion, saying: “It’s not a mentality problem — this is pure mentality.”“How can you ask about mentality now? This is pure mentality, you can bottle it up and sell it. It’s the quality of our games. That’s it. It has nothing to do with mentality.”Later, during his own post-match interview with ITV, Bellingham was informed of Tuchel’s comments. The midfielder appeared frustrated, responding with an eye roll and saying, “whatever.”He then added: “It is difficult out there. It was a tough shift.”Bellingham also praised his teammates for the effort they put in during the match.Asked about Tuchel’s remarks, the Real Madrid midfielder said: “Maybe he doesn’t know what it takes to play in those conditions against Erling Haaland, Nusa, Sorloth, that’s not an easy team to play against.“I think we have tried to create a positive environment we should continue that into the final four.”“I can’t think highly enough of the lads. You’re not going to win every game popping a thousand passes, sometimes you have to win dirty.”

“Never Stops Believing”: Lionel Messi’s Utimate Social Media Tribute To Argentina Team After FIFA WC Quarter-Final Win
Lionel Messi and Argentina celebrate after their win over Switzerland in FIFA World Cup 2026.© AFP
Argentina’s legendary footballer Lionel Messi hailed his team’s resilience and fighting spirit after the defending champions survived a major scare against Switzerland to book their spot in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-final for the second consecutive time. FIFA World Cup leading goal scorer Messi could not make an impact with a goal in the match; however, he stayed till the last whistle and motivated the team as Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez struck in extra time to help Argentina beat a 10-man Switzerland by 3-1.
“I feel very happy about the victory, a very hard-fought win. We knew it was going to be a very intense match. It was important for us to take this step to have a more relaxed week before what’s coming,” Messi said after the match, according to Goal.com.
Argentina netted in their 15th successive World Cup game. The only teams with longer scoring streaks in the competition are Uruguay (16 games from 1930-1962), Hungary (17 games from 1934-1962), Germany (18 games from 1986-1998), Germany (18 games from 1934-1958) and Brazil (18 games from 1930-1958).
Celebrating the win on social media, Messi shared a series of photos from the hard-fought victory and emphasised the mental strength of the squad.
“Once again we had to suffer, but this team never stops believing. We are once again among the four best in the world!!! Let’s go!!!” Messi wrote on Instagram.
Lionel Scaloni’s side will now face fierce rivals England in the second semi-final at Atlanta Stadium on Thursday as they look to book their place in the final for the second consecutive time and give themselves a strong chance to defend their title and script history, becoming the first team to defend their title in FIFA WC history after Brazil in 1962.

‘Never seen more confused team management’: Former India cricketer blasts Gautam Gambhir’s coaching staff after 0-4 rout | Cricket News
Following India’s forgettable 0-4 T20I series defeat to England, former India batter Mohammed Kaif has launched a scathing attack on the team’s management, questioning the handling of young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and senior wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson.England completely outplayed India in the T20I leg of the white-ball tour, registering a dominant 4-0 series victory after the opening match was washed out. The defeat marked the first time India have lost four consecutive matches in a bilateral T20I series. Following the comprehensive triumph, England also replaced India as the No. 1-ranked T20I side in the latest ICC rankings. Reacting to the series, Kaif criticised the Indian team management, suggesting their decisions had dented the confidence of key players.“Never seen a more confused Indian cricket team management. The handling of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Sanju Samson has been far from professional. One is a generational talent, another a World Cup winner, they need to be given confidence, not doubts in their minds,” Kaif wrote on X.After the opening T20I, Sanju Samson was replaced by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for the second T20I. However, in the fifth T20I, Samson returned to the playing XI, replacing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
England dominate T20I series
The five-match series began with the opener at Chester-le-Street being abandoned without a result due to persistent rain.England then took control in the second T20I in Manchester, chasing down India’s 190/7 with four wickets in hand. The match was notable for 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who became India’s youngest-ever T20I debutant, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record. The third T20I in Nottingham proved disastrous for India as they were bundled out for just 76, their second-lowest total in T20I history, handing England a crushing 125-run victory. The hosts continued their dominance in Bristol, chasing India’s 158/7 in only 13.5 overs to seal a one-sided nine-wicket win.England capped off the series in emphatic fashion at Southampton, where Jos Buttler’s blistering 131 off 64 balls and Harry Brook’s unbeaten 95 powered them to 257/3, the highest total ever conceded by India in T20I cricket. India responded with 201/8, with Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma scoring half-centuries, but the visitors still fell 56 runs short. The two teams will now shift their focus to the three-match ODI series, which gets underway on July 14.
