Wagga debut winner Jarbardar eyes 2026 Caulfield challenge

Published

on

Craig Widdison, the trainer operating from the border, relies on gained race know-how to benefit Jarbardar at Caulfield.

After notching a first-up win at Wagga last month, the two-year-old is entered in Saturday’s Sportsbet Feed Handicap (1100m).

An entry also existed for the gelding in Morphettville’s Group 3 David Coles AM Stakes (1200m) this weekend, yet Caulfield held priority.

“The better draw and shorter trip certainly made up our mind, but the preference was Caulfield all along,” Widdison said.

“With a two-year-old, it’s a long way to go from here in Wodonga and the barrier made the decision pretty easy for us.”

Jarbardar crossed from Wodonga to Wagga for debut duties, backed into $1.35 favoritism.

Such support for the gelding held no surprises for Widdison.

“He’s done everything right and he’s a nice type of horse and his trial at Corowa was really good beforehand,” Widdison said.

“He ran faster time than the open trial that day.

He was still very new doing it all, but the time was there and we thought he would be pretty hard to beat at Wagga.”

Two from three public efforts came on right-handers, but the trainer confirms Jarbardar’s comfort on left-handed tracks.

Wodonga base means predominantly left-handed work for the gelding, with adaptability to either.

More will be revealed about Jarbardar after Saturday, whom Widdison rates highly among juveniles since his 2016 Wodonga arrival.

“He shows great ability here, as much as any young horse I’ve had up here, and now he’s got to take that step to city grade,” Widdison said.

“We’ll learn a lot more about him after Saturday as there has been a fair few that have trialled well.

It’s always hard when you go down the line, but he’s exciting for us, anyway.”

The debut-winning ride goes to Jason Lyon again for Jarbardar.

Metro trips are rare for Lyon, with 10 in five years at $31+ prices.

Widdison appreciates Lyon’s stable rides and clean Wagga job.

“Going down there, it’s nice to have someone on that knows the horse,” Widdison said.

“He can be a bit of lad, the horse, so any little help is a bonus.”

At $7, Jarbardar is next in line behind $2.40 hotpot Natural Fling, a first-starter for Tony and Calvin McEvoy.

The company has already established a strong presence in football collectibles after taking over UEFA’s licensing rights from Panini in 2024. The latest agreement now expands its role into FIFA competitions as well.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino welcomed the partnership and highlighted the commercial and fan engagement opportunities it could create.

“Patriots are fooling themselves”: NFL Analyst Jemele Hill warns Robert Kraft and Co. over Mike Vrabel

Published

The situation surrounding Mike Vrabel, Dianna Russini and the New England Patriots has escalated into a major offseason scandal

On Thursday, Jemele Hill, who is the contributing writer at The Atlantic, posted a strong tweet, directed at Robert Kraft’s team.

“The Patriots are fooling themselves if they think this story is just going to go away,” she wrote. “Now that it’s crossed over into tabloid territory, they’re not only going to be digging through the crates, but following his every move from here on out.”

Hill, in her tweet, also pointed out her article, which was published on Monday in The Atlantic, where she wrote a lengthy opinion piece, titled, “Why One Coach’s Personal Life Is a Sports-Wide Scandal.”

I wrote a few weeks ago that the Patriots are fooling themselves if they think this story will simply fade away. Now that it has entered tabloid territory, people are not only digging into the past but also closely watching Vrabel’s every move going forward.

In the article, Hill detailed how Vrabel’s public image shifted dramatically after Page Six published intimate photos of him and Russini at an Arizona resort on April 7.

Hill noted that Vrabel had entered the offseason on a high note after he led his former team, the Patriots to the Super Bowl in his first season as head coach.

In her column, Hill also wrote that the situation pointed finger to concerns about journalism ethics and relationships between reporters and sources in sports media.

Her tweet came one day after TMZ published an old video of Vrabel and Russini about to board a boat in Tennessee. The clip dates back to June 2021, when Russini was heavily pregnant with her first son, Michael. Back then, Vrabel was the Tennessee Titans coach and Russini worked as a lead reporter for ESPN.

Adding to the April 7 photos from Arizona, second batch of photos involving Vrabel and Russini were released on April 23.

Photos published by Page Six show the pair at the Tribeca Tavern in New York City in January 2020. Allegedly, they appeared to be sharing a kiss.

Next, TMZ released images of the two at a Biloxi casino in January 2024.

Currently, Dianna Russini is married to Kevin Goldschmidt, a senior manager for Shake Shack. They tied the knot on Sept. 26, 2020. The couple has two children together.

Meanwhile, Mike Vrabel is married to Jennifer (Jen) Vrabel since 1999. They have two sons, Tyler and Carter. However, Daily Mail reported on April 30 that Vrabel is facing ultimatum from Jennifer to drop Dianna Russini forever.
