Man Utd added nine players to their Ireland training camp on Sunday and that included centre-back Matthijs de Ligt as he continues his recovery from back surgery.

Matthijs de Ligt will continue his rehabilitation from back surgery with the rest of the Manchester United squad in Ireland after being included in the club’s squad for a pre-season training camp.
The Netherlands international remains on track with his recovery from surgery he underwent three months ago but he isn’t expected to be fit until the early weeks of the new Premier League season.
Despite being unable to train and play, De Ligt was one of nine United players who flew from Manchester to Dublin on Sunday to link up with the 22 players who had travelled to Ireland from Gothenburg on Sunday night.
Lisandro Martinez will arrive on Monday, meaning Manuel Ugarte is the only first-team squad member who won’t be part of the camp. He is continuing to recover from surgery on a serious knee injury sustained during the World Cup.
The squad had a relaxed day on Sunday, but the first training session of the week will take place today (Monday). Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford will undergo physical testing and could join group training on Tuesday.
De Ligt has been a regular at Carrington this summer as he continues to work his way back to full fitness. The five-day camp at Carton House in County Kildare is the one significant trip in United’s pre-season, and Michael Carrick wanted the squad together, with some bonding elements planned.
That is why De Ligt has been included and he will continue to spend time around the group during the week. He missed the training camp at the same venue in April when he was continuing to try and work towards a return before the end of the season.

The £42.8million centre-back hasn’t played since the end of November, having started every Premier League game last season until that point. He put off surgery for most of last term in a bid to return before the end of the campaign and prove his fitness for the World Cup. When that proved impossible, he went under the knife in May in a bid to put the back issue behind him.
KATSEYE faced criticism following its recent performance at the Head In The Clouds festival, with some fans questioning the group’s reaction after Manon’s name was chanted by the audience. On August 8, 2026, KATSEYE headlined the music festival with a 60-minute set. The group performed as a quartet, with group leader Sophia and fellow member Manon currently on hiatus.
During the performance, group member Lara asked the audience to send their love to Sophia. While some fans appreciated the gesture, others questioned why Manon was not mentioned, given that she was also away from group activities.
The situation drew further attention later in the set Lara encouraged the audience to say, “I love you, Sophia.” Instead, sections of the crowd responded by loudly chanting Manon’s name.
The members appeared caught off guard by the reaction. Lara responded with a brief, seemingly flustered “Well…” before the performance continued without the group directly acknowledging the chants.

Clips of the moment quickly circulated on social media, prompting debate among KATSEYE fans. Some criticized the members’ reaction and described it as awkward. One fan wrote,

KATSEYE’s Sophia Laforteza takes hiatus to prioritize mental health and well-being ahead of Wild release
KATSEYE’s Sophia Laforteza would be taking a temporary break from the group’s activities to focus on her mental health and well-being. The singer announced her hiatus on August 7, 2026, with HYBE and Geffen Records confirming that she will step away from promotional schedules for the time being. According to the agencies,
“Sophia has been [..] following thorough consultations with medical professionals, it has been advised that she take dedicated time for extended rest and ongoing care to ensure a full recovery. While Sophia herself is eager to perform alongside her members, the health, safety, and long-term well-being of our artists will always remain our highest priority.”
Her condition was expected to be reassessed in September, when the agencies plan to provide another update. Laforteza also addressed EYEKONS directly through her Instagram Stories following the announcement. She acknowledged that missing upcoming activities would be difficult, particularly because of her love for performing and spending time with fans. The KATSEYE leader explained,
“It truly breaks my heart to have to miss out on a lot. You know how much I love being on stage, performing, and sharing these moments with you. Making this decision wasn’t easy, but I’m learning that health has to come first. I’m realizing that if I don’t take care of my mind and body now, I won’t be able to keep doing what I love the most for so long.”
Laforteza then thanked the group’s fandom, EYEKONS, for their patience and support and asked them to continue supporting KATSEYE while she remains away from the group.
“Thank you for being so patient, understanding, and always showing me so much love. It means more to me than I could ever say. I promise I’m going to work as hard as I can to get through this, heal properly, and come back stronger. ‘Til then, please continue to be kind and give KATSEYE all your love and support as we fulfill our promise to show up for you in every way we can. I’ll be here as one of the EYEKONS in the meantime with y’all, See you soon” said the singer.
With Laforteza temporarily absent, KATSEYE will carry out its scheduled activities with Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel and Yoonchae Jeung. The hiatus comes just days before the release of KATSEYE’s upcoming EP, Wild, which is set to arrive on August 13.

The group is also scheduled to embark on a fall tour beginning September 1, with dates planned across the U.K., Europe, Canada and the U.S. The tour is currently scheduled to conclude in Mexico City on November 27. Laforteza’s return will depend on her recovery, with further information expected after her health is reassessed in September.

There was a welcoming committee waiting for Marcus Rashford as he returned to the fold at Manchester United for the first time in 18 months. This feels like the start of a new era for Rashford at his boyhood club, the only question is how long it lasts.
The sight of Rashford being welcomed by hordes of United fans, wearing club colours and preparing to train with his teammates, is one we never thought we would see again. Neither did Rashford, nor those in charge at Old Trafford.

The most obvious giveaway that everyone thought this was a story that had seen its final chapter written was that Rashford’s No. 10 shirt was given to Matheus Cunha last summer. Rashford was the past, and players like Cunha were the future.
But circumstances have conspired to throw player and club back together again. The boyhood United fan, once the pride of Manchester on the front pages as well as the back, with 426 games for the club, is somehow in the last chance saloon here.
Rashford hasn’t played for United since December 2024. Patrick Dorgu, Ayden Heaven, Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, Karl Darlow, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans are all yet to experience playing alongside Rashford. Most of them won’t have even trained with him.

United have opened the door to a reintegration, however, and Rashford is said to be willing to walk through it and play his part. He looked happy on arrival at Carton House on Sunday, but this week feels crucial. Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo will do physical testing on Monday before a likely return to group training on Tuesday.
Rashford is said to be settled in his personal life again and ready to embrace a return to United. He is reported to be taking the No. 14 shirt, the one he wore at Barcelona last season, although it’s understood that hasn’t yet been made official to the squad in Ireland.
There are bound to be some nerves when he returns to training with his teammates and Michael Carrick this week. Carrick’s presence in the dugout is helping this reunion. He is a calm, pragmatic figure who has a long and positive history with Rashford and the two have spoken during the summer.
Rashford didn’t train with the first team last summer, however, having been consigned to the bomb squad, so this is the first time back in a proper United session for 18 months. It is due to build towards a first appearance in 19 months against AC Milan in Wroclaw on Saturday, when the man who looked to have ended his career will be in the opposite dugout. Ruben Amorim’s presence there will be an intriguing subplot.

By then, United and Rashford will have a better understanding of whether this is what they want. If Rashford embraces being part of the group and looks sharp in training, the pros of keeping him in the squad will far outweigh the cons.
Of course, it is not impossible that there is still a parting of the ways in the final weeks of the transfer window. But for that to happen, there will need to be interest from an elite European club, and United will need to feel they have the time and resources to find a replacement.
At the moment, all roads led to Rashford being back in red all season and resurrecting a Manchester United career that looked to be over. What happens in Ireland this week could help map out that scenario.

The Houston Astros hope to be the fourth consecutive opponent to take advantage of the current state of the San Francisco Giants when the clubs open a three-game interleague series Monday night in Northern California.
The Astros begin the week a half-game up on the Texas Rangers and four ahead of the Seattle Mariners atop the American League West after opening a six-game trip with a second consecutive loss at San Diego on Sunday night, 7-2.
Houston has now lost four of six, but the good news is its next opponent has been in an even bigger skid as the Giants have dropped seven of nine. All seven defeats came against playoff contenders, a stretch in which San Francisco has aided the causes of the Padres, Rangers and Detroit Tigers.
The Tigers silenced Giants bats over the weekend for 8-0 and 3-1 (in 10 innings) wins after a series-opening loss. Before that, the Padres took three of four from the Giants followed by the Rangers, like the Tigers, taking two of three.
Having started an opener to begin the Detroit series on Friday, the Giants have promoted rookie Blade Tidwell from Triple-A to kick off the Houston series. Both rotation openings were created when the club traded Tyler Mahle and Robbie Ray before last week’s deadline.

A second-year major-leaguer, Tidwell (0-0, 3.18 ERA) will be making just his fourth big-league start in his 14th overall appearance. The right-hander has never faced the Astros.
“Blade is a little bit of a Skittle,” Giants manager Tony Vitello observed to the media about his former University of Tennessee pitcher. “He’s rough on the exterior but a little softer than people realize on the inside. OMAHA, Neb. — Frankie Harris made an 18-foot birdie putt on the final hole for a 12-under 59 and won the Pinnacle Bank Championship on Sunday with a par on second playoff hole for his first Korn Ferry Tour title in only his sixth start this year.
Harris shot 27 on the back nine of The Club at Indian Creek by making just over 153 feet of putts.
“The thought of a 59 never even crossed my mind. Honestly, like 100 per cent honesty, I did not know I shot a 59 when I made that putt on 18,” Harris said. “I knew I was playing well, but I was just trying to keep the pedal on the gas and finish strong.”
Alistair Docherty was coming off a birdie on the 15th when Harris posted at 22-under 262. He birdied the last three holes, starting with a 53-foot putt on the 16th, the last one giving him 64 to force the playoff.

“I was ready to crack my first beer once I finished the round, but then my caddie and I made a smart choice not do that because Alistair came in real hot,” Harris said. “Ended up going out there when I saw that he birdied 17 because I knew there was a good chance that he would birdie this one as well. Warmed up. He made a birdie, I heard all the cheers from the driving range.
“I knew it was going to come down to a playoff, so figured it was my time.”
On the 18th for the second playoff hole, Docherty went long of the green, chipped to six feet and missed the par putt.

Moses Itauma has shut down talk of future stadium fights and insisted his sole focus is on claiming the world heavyweight title with victory over Filip Hrgovic on August 29.
British heavyweight prospect Itauma (14-0, 12KOs) will fight for the vacant IBF crown in his 15th professional fight at O2 Arena and aim to remain on course to dominate the blue-riband division for the next decade.
Queensberry promoter Frank Warren last week described the 21-year-old as the “hottest young boxer” in the world and predicted a Wembley blockbuster showdown with Daniel Dubois in 2027 if Croatian power-puncher Hrgovic (20-1, 15KOs) can be navigated in London.
Yet, Itauma told British media on Friday: “I haven’t really thought about that to be honest.
“If I don’t get past Hrgovic, there ain’t going to be no stadium fights.”

The short and sharp nature of Itauma’s answer fits with his current image and resume, which contains 12 knockout wins and eight inside three minutes.
It is those numbers sprinkled in with devastating finishes, like the uppercut to end his last bout with Jermaine Franklin in Manchester, that has made Warren and plenty of other boxing experts anoint Itauma as the future of the sport.
The dream of being called out as world heavyweight champion first entered the consciousness of the Chatham southpaw at the age of 16 to 17 when Queensberry had already secured his signature.
Whilst Itauma is ready to deliver under the London lights, he has been candid enough to admit at an unease with his growing presence in the public eye.

“Maybe 16 or 17,” Itauma said. “(My aim) was becoming the youngest (world heavyweight champion) and it was all the money and fame that came after.
“Then when I started progressing through my career, I saw the negative side of it, I was kind of like, ‘I might not want this,’ but the way I am heading, like I said, I might not have a choice.
“I just try to be authentic when I am on the camera and then in my boxing, I guess they see I am putting on entertaining fights, so that might have a part to play in it.

“I don’t really know. I’m not braggadocious, I’m not swaggerdocious, I don’t do anything extraordinary outside of the ring.
“In my mind it might be because I come across like myself. I don’t try to be anyone else.
“I remember the Jermaine Franklin fight, yeah when everybody was going, ‘oh Moses Itauma,’ and I just want to sit there and appreciate it, but it’s hard because I’m in the ring fighting!
“You try to appreciate and take it in but at the same time you don’t want to be starstruck and get caught out.”

Hrgovic has talked down Itauma’s CV and stoked the fire before this world title fight, but received a warning from his opponent.
“Ah man, nobody comes to watch heavyweights and two guys go to points,” Itauma said, with a menacing smile.
“If you are watching the heavyweight division, you want to see some knockouts.”
Fifa and its president Gianni Infantino have been accused of breaking trust “through deception” in an open letter issued by Uefa, Concacaf and the Asian Football Confederation.
The letter, signed by the presidents and general secretaries, said recent controversy over the Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE) proposal was fundamentally about “the integrity of the game, and the integrity of those elected to lead it”.
FFE would have meant a new company being created to manage commercial and ticketing rights of all Fifa competitions, including the World Cups, with 21% sold off to a private investment company.
“When trust is broken through deception, when an individual places himself above the collective that entrusted him with authority, that duty has been abandoned,” the letter read.
The letter called for a review to be “conducted by a fully independent third party” after Fifa committed to present a report to the Fifa Council in October.
For the first time in pre-season, this started to feel like a typical Manchester United summer. Trips to Helsinki, Trondheim and Stockholm had been low-key. A squad lacking stars, barely any welcome party and attendances that suggested United’s hold on Scandinavia perhaps wasn’t as strong as thought.
But when the squad arrived at their hotel a couple of miles outside Gothenburg city centre at around 6.30pm on Friday, there was finally a crowd waiting for them. It might only have been 100 or so supporters, but this was a hotel around the industrial pier of Sweden’s second city.
There was a buzz at United’s arrival. The novelty factor of a visit to Gothenburg for the first time in a decade helped, as did the return of some of the club’s World Cup stars and the presence of Youri Tielemans for the first time this summer.
Andrey Santos might have cost more money, but Tielemans feels the biggest signing of the window so far at Old Trafford, as a bona fide Premier League star and someone who has just captained Belgium at the World Cup.

But wherever United go, there is only one true star in the squad. This is a group lacking the big names of previous United squads. It’s a team without an obvious ego and lacking the kind of player to make headlines when he sneezes.
Bruno Fernandes is the closest they have to that kind of figure, and his return to the squad was greeted with glee in Gothenburg. It was ‘Bruno’ the supporters outside the hotel were shouting for and it was the club captain who spent the longest outside, signing autographs and posing for selfies long after his teammates had checked in and stretched themselves out on their beds.
Eventually, Fernandes was ushered inside by security for another fleeting United stay in Scandinavia. About 30 hours after their arrival they headed to Dublin. They did at least spend longer in Gothenburg than PSG, who only arrived in the morning, spent a couple of hours at a city centre hotel, then dashed away after the game.

The old-school charm of the Ullevi Stadium played host to the biggest crowd to watch United in pre-season so far, and the majority of those in attendance were supporting Michael Carrick’s side, although Kvicha Kvaratskhelia might well have been the biggest star on show.
There was familiar support for United as well, with Juan Mata’s family in attendance and making their way inside the bowels of the stadium to say hello to some old faces. Mata is now plying his trade in Australia but his wife, Evelina Kamph, is Swedish and was at the game.
That added to the slightly chaotic feel after the game. It took United’s players a while to depart, and Carrick had media obligations with MUTV and host broadcaster VG to fulfil. For once this summer, there was a story as well, with Mason Mount going off injured in the first half.
Carrick played down those fears after the game and Mount walked through the mixed zone with a smile on his face, no obvious sign of a limp and a cheery “all good” when asked how he was. While PSG’s players slipped away from the side door, United staffers made sure their players walked through the area where the media were waiting.

As soon as Mount appeared, the camera phones buzzed into action, and his positive update was welcome news. He had been the star of pre-season so far, but fitness concerns are never far away with the 27-year-old after a rotten couple of years.
Mount took his place on the Saturday evening flight to Dublin and United’s squad were installed at Carton House later that night. It is a familiar environment, having spent several days there in April during a training camp.
They will spend the next five nights there and will use the outstanding facilities for training and a change of scenery after four weeks at Carrington. Dublin’s iconic Croke Park stadium will play host to a sold-out ‘friendly’ against Leeds on Wednesday.

A bigger media contingent will descend on County Kildare as well, with the short hop across the Irish Sea worth the effort for what will be the story of the summer so far. When Lisandro Martinez, Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford return to pre-season training, the camera lenses will focus on only one player.
Carrick will speak to external media for the first time this week as well, and Rashford will be a topic of discussion. Carrick has shown a deftness to avoid headlines so far and you can be sure he will handle this situation delicately. His long-standing relationship with Rashford will help.
This is the start of what is essentially United’s final week of pre-season. On Friday, they will head from Dublin to Wroclaw for a game against AC Milan. By the time they’re next back in Manchester, the start of the Premier League campaign will be less than a week away.

MANILA, Philippines–There’s no rest for the weary. That old adage has never rung truer for Alex Eala at the moment.
After a grueling stretch playing highly competitive tennis for nearly two weeks straight that ended in the Canadian Open round of 16 on Monday, Eala heads to the next stop of her hard court swing in Ohio for the Cincinnati Open.
Still, the Filipino sensation will try to squeeze in some me time before returning to action. Luckily for her, being the World No. 20 means she will be seeded in Cincinnati and will get a first-round bye.
“I definitely will take maybe two days off, a day or two. I do have to travel to Cincinnati. I need to get a haircut. I haven’t gotten a haircut in a while. My nails are grown out,” she said with a laugh following a 4-6, 0-6 loss to an in-form Belinda Bencic at Sobeys Stadium – Center court.
“I’ll do a couple things, just to get my mind off tennis. Yeah, reunite maybe with some friends in Cincinnati, and just try to have fun. I’ll be back on court like that, so I got to enjoy what I have. I got to enjoy the time that I have that I’m not on court,” added Eala, who snapped her fingers mid-sentence to emphasize how little time she has before she gets back on the court.
Eala had reeled off a career-best seven consecutive wins, including a gutsy win over American Caty McNally in the round of 32 on Saturday despite rolling her right ankle in the second set, before her run came to a screeching halt against Bencic.
“It’s always tough, of course, after a loss. But like I said, I’m looking back at these past two weeks as a really big positive. I think I’ve played really well. I’ve gotten through so many obstacles,” she said. “Of course, right now there’s that initial, just kind of a little tired and down from the match.”

“But I mean, I’m healthy, which is something I’m super grateful for. It’s something that’s obviously on the top of my priority all the time. So, yeah, I’m counting my blessings. I’m taking the lessons that I’ve had from these two weeks and hopefully implementing them even more in a better way in Cincinnati and New York.”

After shooting 70, Koepka was 3-under for the tournament, which gave him a T67 finish and put him 19 strokes behind the winner, Michael Brennan.
As a result, Koepka, who left LIV Golf to rejoin the PGA Tour this year, finished 94th on the FedExCup Playoffs standings list. The top 70 in the FedEx Cup Standings move on to the St. Jude Championship in Memphis next week, which begins the first of three playoff tournaments.

Koepka was candid about this year’s performance after his final round.
“I think it’s pretty pathetic that I can’t get through,” Koepka explained, per Yahoo Sports. “[I’ve had] zero top 10s basically in two years. To be in the prime of your career and be as good as I think I am, I think that’s very pathetic, disappointing.”
The five-time major tournament winner defected from the rival LIV Golf tour at the beginning of the year, and the PGA Tour made him pay for his return.
Koepka missed out on what the PGA Tour estimated to be $85 million in potential earnings, while he was also limited to which events he participated in. Additionally, Koepka isn’t eligible for the $100 million FedExCup bonus program for the 2026 season.
But it wasn’t a total waste of a season despite how Koepka feels about it.

In his 16 starts, Koepka made 11 cuts, including a T12 at The Masters in April. His best finish came at the Cognizant Classic in March, where he placed T9 to showcase what many believed to be a resurgence in his first year back on Tour.

Koepka slowed down, though. But while he is disappointed in his performances, he enjoyed very moment of being back on the PGA Tour.
“It’s been great,” he said. “Honestly, I’ve loved it. I feel fantastic. The reception’s been great. Overall, happiness is 10 out of 10 and just excited.”
While Koepka will continue to play — he mentioned going overseas to participate in DP World Tour events in Europe – he is also hoping to get back on the PGA Tour grind this fall.
