Bitcoin’s Next Fed Test Is Today’s FOMC Meeting: Will $75K Hold?

Published

on

🇺🇸

Markets are pricing roughly a 90% probability of a 25-basis-point Federal Reserve rate hike at the September FOMC meeting, according to the Danske Research Team.

The team revised its own call this week and now expects that outcome. For Bitcoin watchers, the key distinction is between market expectations and a confirmed policy decision: the hike is still expected, but it has not yet been delivered.

The research team says tightening now likely represents the path of least resistance, given current market pricing and its longstanding view that rate hikes are eventually on the horizon.

At the same time, it does not regard the decision as completely settled. That leaves the meeting relevant not only for the headline rate decision, but also for the details released alongside it.

Readers following FOMC odds into the September rate decision should distinguish between the reported 90% probability and any broader claims about how Bitcoin or other assets are positioned. The supplied research supports the market-pricing estimate, but it does not provide a verified assessment of Bitcoin positioning, leverage, or current price action.

Will the Expected Hike Be the Main Bitcoin Catalyst?

FOMC odds put a September Fed hike at 90%, but Bitcoin watchers must also track the vote, dot plot and updated economic projections closely.
SOURCE: Kalshi

The Danske Research Team identifies the FOMC meeting as the week’s main US event. Alongside its expected 25-basis-point hike, the team expects the Fed to publish updated economic projections and a fresh set of rate projections, commonly called the dot plot.

The vote itself is also worth watching. Danske Research Team expects two or three dissenters in favor of holding rates, even as it maintains its call for a hike. That expectation underscores that the meeting is not a done deal. The final decision and any recorded dissents will provide the clearest evidence of how the committee resolved that tension.

The projections also carry an expected qualification. The team still expects the FOMC to publish the dots even if Fed official Warsh again chooses not to submit personal rate-path views. If that happens, the published material would still be available, but it would not include Warsh’s personal submission.

What the Fed FOMC Signal Could Mean for Bitcoin

For Bitcoin-focused market analysis, the meeting presents several elements to monitor: the rate decision, the vote count, updated economic projections, and the dot plot.

Available evidence shows that the market strongly expects a hike and that projections and dots are expected to be published. It does not establish a specific Bitcoin reaction to any of those elements.

Commentary about the dot plot, future policy language, or a possible press-conference message should therefore be treated as market interpretation rather than a conclusion supplied by the primary research.

Likewise, it would be premature to describe any particular outcome as bullish or bearish for Bitcoin without independently verified market evidence.

The immediate question is not whether market pricing confirms it. It does not. The reported probability reflects expectations ahead of the meeting, while the FOMC’s decision will determine the actual policy outcome. The same caution applies to claims about risk assets, crypto-market volatility, or how fully expectations are reflected in trading activity.

Does a Fed Interest Rate Hike Make Stocks Go Down?

Published

on

Konrad Putzier hedcut

The Federal Reserve’s expected rate hike is unlikely to hurt the stock market much—that is, if recent history is any guide.

The Fed has launched rate-hike campaigns six times since the mid-1990s. In most cases, stocks took a hit in the first four months after the initial rate increase, but then quickly recovered, according to an analysis by LPL Financial. The S&P 500 rose by an average of 10.7% in the 12 months after the first hike.

“The key lesson from these prior cycles is that rate hikes do not typically derail bull markets,” LPL chief equity strategist Jeff Buchbinder wrote in a recent note to clients.

Robinhood Chain’s TVL Nears $1B, but Failed L1s Raise Sustainability Question

Published

on

Four blue-chip layer-1 blockchains from the last market cycle have lost more than 99% of the value once locked on them, and a crypto researcher is asking if Robinhood Chain is next.

Stacy Muur pointed to steep TVL losses at Fantom, Aurora, Canto and Songbird, putting Robinhood Chain’s recent growth against a less forgiving history.

Four Blue-Chip L1s That Cratered

In a post on X, Muur called out the damage bluntly. “Blue-chip L1s from the last cycle got absolutely deleted,” she wrote before running through the numbers. Fantom peaked at $7.7 billion in locked value and now sits at $4.8 million, with daily decentralized exchange volume down to under $9,000 even though $318 million worth of stablecoins are still parked on the chain.

Aurora went from $2.6 billion to $3.1 million, and DefiLlama shows just 133 addresses touching the chain in the past day, despite the project having raised $102 million over its lifetime. Canto fell from $200 million to $3.6 million, with its token now trading at $0.0017 for a market cap of roughly $1 million.

On its part, Songbird dropped from $50 million to about $200,000, though it still pulled in over 2,500 daily active addresses even with chain fees sitting at just $77 for the day.

Current DefiLlama data shows Robinhood Chain itself holds about $928 million in DeFi TVL, several orders of magnitude above where any of the four chains Muur cited stand today, with a stablecoin market cap of $1.026 billion. Its 24-hour DEX volume was $1.552 billion, while perpetuals volume hit $577.58 million.

The chain recorded $524,989 in fees and $471,769 in revenue over the same period, although it also had net outflows of $11.11 million. Its DeFi TVL is up 3.35% over seven days and 71% across 30, and it ranks 10th among the biggest chains by that metric, behind more established networks like Ethereum, Solana, Base, BSC and Tron.

Despite the impressive performance, Muur closed her post by asking, flatly, whether Robinhood Chain’s own TVL will still be around in 2030.

Activity High, but TVL Durability Remains Untested

Robinhood Chain’s DEX volume hit a daily high above $1.3 billion in early September, with Arkham data at the time showing the chain generating more in fees than Solana, Base, or Ethereum, one of the drivers being the direct trading of meme coins against tokenized stocks.

It has since beaten that mark repeatedly, going as far as $2.61 billion in DEX volume on September 11, with yesterday’s coming in at over $1.6 billion.

But Muur’s comparison raises a different question: whether the current usage can translate into TVL that persists through another market cycle, and the four older chains have shown how dramatically liquidity can disappear after an L1 falls out of favor.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Father Asked About Teenager’s Absence In India XI vs Afghanistan. His Reply

Published

on

For the second match running against Afghanistan, the Indian team went ahead with Sanju Samson in place of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as the preferred opener. Samson, after scoring 10 in the first T20I, made a terrific comeback to slam 57 off 22 balls. For the third T20I, to be held on Thursday, Sooryavanshi is likely to get a chance, as hinted by captain Shreyas Iyer. “Definitely, we want all of them to get used to the wicket and get some practice, so it will be a good opportunity to give a chance to the guys sitting out,” Iyer said after the second T20I.

After the second T20I, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s father, Sanjeev, was asked about his son’s absence from the playing XI.

“When there is a need, he will play. Baccha taiyaar hai khelne ke liye (the boy is ready to play),” Sanjeev told India Today.

Chasing a target of 160 runs against Afghanistan in the second T20I, Team India never looked under pressure as the opening duo of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma forged an 88-run partnership for the first wicket. Samson roared back to form with a 57-run knock off just 22 balls as India overhauled the total in just 14.5 overs. The wicketkeeper-batter’s exemplary knock put the chatter around his competition with the 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to bed, showing the cricket world once again that form is temporary, while class is permanent.

Samson, speaking at the press conference after the game, was asked about the competition for the two opening spots in the T20I team. However, the veteran cricketer produced a mic-drop statement, saying competition only exists for the outside world. For him, both Sooryavanshi and Abhishek are teammates playing together for the country. He stressed that there is no chatter in the team about one player being snubbed or another not getting enough opportunities.

“I think they (Sooryavanshi and Abhishek Sharma) are competitors for the outside world, but we are a team, and we are playing for our country. We want to win the game first, and then it comes down to the other individuals. We cannot sulk or be in a negative frame of mind, thinking, ‘Oh, I did not get it, why was it given to him?’ Those kinds of mindsets do not work here,” Samson told reporters in the post-match press conference.

Samson also spoke about the chatter on social media, where a number of former Indian cricketers have opined on the competition for the opening spot. Some suggest that Sooryavanshi deserves to play ahead of Samson in the team, while others believe Abhishek should make way for the teenage batter.

While Samson is not someone who pays heed to comments on the internet, he admitted to having come across some remarks made by former cricketers.

“I try to switch the Wi-Fi off. But sometimes the Wi-Fi gets switched on, and comments become visible. Some senior player says something. So I think it is very normal.”

Google DeepMind launches the DeepMind Institute to debate AGI

Published

on

“This is a critical moment to ensure we build AGI safely and its benefits to society far outweigh any risks,” wrote the three directors of the new DeepMind Institute.

Google DeepMind has launched the DeepMind Institute, or DMI, a platform for research and debate on artificial general intelligence, according to its launch essay.

Its directors are Shane Legg, co-founder and Chief AGI Scientist at Google DeepMind, and Demis Hassabis, the lab’s co-founder and chair. Hassabis is also Alphabet’s chief scientist. The third director is James Manyika, Google’s president of research, labs, technology and society.

Legg is also the managing editor. The institute says its pieces reflect their authors’ ideas and “should not be read as Google’s official view.”

What the institute says

The launch essay defines AGI as a system that shows all the cognitive capabilities of the human brain. It says today’s systems still fail at some basic tasks, but “we expect those gaps to be closed soon.”

It names cybersecurity and biorisks as current concerns, and “the potential for loss of control in future self-improving systems.” In August, a DeepMind executive tied AI spending to machines that improve themselves.

Researchers from Google DeepMind, Google and the wider research community will publish on the platform. The essay says they “will not always agree.”

“Worth considering”

Legg told the Financial Times that AI capabilities must not outrun safety controls. He called Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei’s call to slow, but not pause, frontier model releases “interesting directionally” and “worth considering.”

Amodei said on 12 September that the industry must slow down.

Legg also told the FT it was premature to declare that AGI had been achieved. Nvidia’s Jensen Huang said AGI has arrived on 7 September.

OpenAI made its own AGI claim on 4 September. Legg remains “comfortable” with his forecast of a 50% chance of “minimal” AGI by 2028, the FT reported.

Bilal Chughtai, who left DeepMind’s AGI safety team in July, posted a warning this week.

The first essays

Alongside the launch essay, the site lists four pieces:

  • “The case for reasoning transparency”, by Rohin Shah and Anca Dragan
  • “Economic policy for AGI”, by Julian Jacobs and Alex Imas
  • “Principles for a new utopianism”, by Stephen Cave
  • “A framework for frontier AI and the dawning of a new age”, by Hassabis

Eleven policies for an AGI economy

Jacobs, an economist and research scientist at Google DeepMind, and Imas, its Director of AGI Economics, rated 11 policies in their essay. They used literature reviews, surveys and 51 AI agent raters built from survey data on 51 real economists.

The authors write that “no single initiative is the answer to everything.” They match three “least-regret” responses to three scenarios:

  • Mild disruption: expanded unemployment insurance, a wider Earned Income Tax Credit and employer-led retraining
  • Moderate displacement: turning the tax credit into a negative income tax
  • Labour and capital decoupling: a universal basic capital backstop, used if labour’s share of GDP falls for a sustained period

They call universal basic income “an expensive and blunt instrument that may fail to concentrate sufficient relief where it is needed most.”

In their survey, 85% of Americans backed publicly funded retraining and 72% backed unemployment insurance. Support for universal basic capital was 54%.

Universal basic capital scored highest of the 11 policies on agency, at 76.3 out of 100. It scored 33.1 on feasibility, second lowest after a federal jobs guarantee.

"Mythical Supercycle"! Crypto About To Do Something It Hasn't Done Since 2015 (Stocks Can't Stop it)

The “mythical supercycle” may actually be forming — and it lines up with the business cycle setup we’ve been tracking all year.

Crypto’s last real bull market ended in 2021. Willy Woo is seeing signs of a Bitcoin decoupling from stocks that hasn’t happened since 2015 — right before the 2017 supercycle. My risk models agree: altcoin risk is at 14, which historically means higher prices 86% of the time within 3 months and 100% of the time within a year.

Volunteers in tears as search for Noah Woods ends in heartbreak

The body has been found in the search for three-year-old Noah Woods who vanished after a visit to a village playground.

Several hundred volunteers as well as teams from the police, fire, coastguard and search and rescue had joined the desperate hunt for the toddler, who ran down an alleyway in Brantham, Suffolk on Tuesday afternoon and disappeared.

He told them: “You will have heard the news.

“First and foremost our thoughts are with Noah’s family and all those who knew him.”

He said that the agencies involved in the search, and Noah’s family, “have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of public support, people putting on their boots and helping us with the search and that, ladies and gentlemen, is yourselves”.

The officer’s voice cracked with emotion at times as he addressed the crowd of volunteers.

Superintendent Pearse, from Suffolk Constabulary, said in a statement on Wednesday evening: “Police and fire teams this afternoon sadly recovered the body of a child from Decoy Pond in Brantham.

“Formal identification has yet to take place, but the family of Noah Woods have been informed of this development. The discovery of the body is currently being treated as not suspicious, but unexplained.

“The coroner will be informed of this development.

“Since Noah was reported as missing, officers have carried out multiple inquiries, including the deployment of special search officers and dog units, and received support from various agencies, including helicopters from the National Police Air Service and HM Coastguard.

“Additional assistance on the ground has been provided by HM Coastguard, Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service. Suffolk Lowland, Search and Rescue, and over 1,300 members of the public supporting the search.

“First and foremost, our thoughts are with Noah’s family and all those who knew them. Since Noah was reported missing, vast number of our officers and staff have been deployed in numerous functions in the search for Noah, and the support for his family.

“We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of public support and people putting on their boots to help us with the search.

“As a parent myself, I completely understand why people would want to help, and such a response is one that typifies the strong sense of community and the heartwarming nature of Suffolk people that make the county such a special place.

“I’m sure you appreciate that the family now need time, space, and privacy, and I thank you for your understanding of this.”

Absurdist Horror ‘Littermates’ Officially Gets First Trailer Ahead of Fantastic Fest Debut [Exclusive]

Horror continues to have a banger of a year, and now, as we gear up to head into the spooky season, fans of the genre are excited to see what new terrifying twists and turns await in the fall months. One new horror movie coming our way is Littermates, by Scott Tinkham and Michael Woloson. The film puts two survivors in an impossible situation, and Collider is thrilled to bring you an exclusive first look at the trailer ahead of its Fantastic Fest debut. The film introduces us to Liam (Joey Bader) and Mel (Kaylee McGregor), two survivors who find themselves in the cottage of Chester (Oliver Woolf) in the English countryside. He takes care of them, teaching them to communicate, and as they test Chester and his rules, they begin to understand what actually happened to them.

Littermates is described as follows: “As sirens, smoke, and distant threats press closer, Liam and Mel go about their days relearning the simplest tasks inside Chester’s carefully controlled world, while earning “nifties” for good behavior that can be traded for small comforts like karaoke, hot tub time, dance parties, and favorite meals. However, unlike Liam, Mel is far less willing to accept the boundaries of the cottage, growing increasingly drawn to the woods, the locked gate, and the larger world Chester insists is too dangerous to enter. When Mel’s curiosity pushes past Chester’s rules, the fragile order of the cottage is tested, exposing the fear, loyalty, and unanswered questions holding their makeshift family together.”

The new trailer for the film features Bader and McGregor continually looking at each other, saying repeatedly, “I’m sorry this happened to you,” with a flash of scenes from the film. A tennis court, both of the two survivors fighting for their lives, lots of shots of the wilderness, and more. Will Mel and Liam make it out? How did they get to Chester’s to begin with? All of that is left up to our imagination in the trailer for Littermates, and it does keep you on edge!

01

What actually frightens you, when you are honest about it?
Every horror franchise is one fear, dressed up and handed a knife.

02

It is very late and you are alone. What do you do?
Everybody has a ritual for this. Yours says more than you think.

03

The first sign arrives. How do you react to it?
There is always a warning. There is usually nobody listening.

04

How much of this do you think is your own fault?
The best horror always leaves that question slightly open.

05

What would actually keep you alive in a horror film?
Somebody always survives. It is rarely the person you expect.

06

Who do you want in the room with you?
Almost nobody survives a horror film completely alone.

07

It is over. What do you carry out of it?
Horror never really ends at the credits. It just stops filming.

08

The lights go off tonight. Which thought finds you?
Eight questions in, this is the one that decides your nightmare.

The Lights Just Went Out
Your Nightmare Is…

Four franchises, four completely different ways of getting underneath
your skin. This is the one built out of your particular fear, why it works so well on you, and what
it would leave behind.

A Nightmare on Elm Street · Since 1984

Elm Street

Your nightmare does not wait outside the door. It waits for you
to close your eyes, which you are going to have to do eventually, because nobody has ever
won that particular argument.

  • Freddy is horror’s cruellest idea: a threat that lives in the one place you cannot
guard, cannot lock, and cannot avoid forever.
  • You are the person who lies awake running through it again. Your own mind is where this
starts and where it does the damage.
  • These films understood exhaustion as a horror engine. The kids on Elm Street do not lose
because they are weak. They lose because they are tired.
  • You can lock every door in the house. You still have to sleep.

Child’s Play · Chucky · Since 1988

Chucky

Your nightmare is not really the thing itself. It is the face of
the person you tell, and the way they decide, very kindly, that you have imagined all of it.

  • Chucky works precisely because he is absurd. That is the trap: the more accurately you
describe him, the less anybody is going to believe you.
  • You know the specific loneliness of being right while everyone around you is being
    reasonable at you.
  • The franchise is at its best when the adults in the room are the real obstacle, and you
    have met those adults.
  • By the time somebody finally believes you, you will have handled most of it on your own.

Scream · Ghostface · Since 1996

Scream

Your nightmare has your number, knows your name, and has almost
certainly been inside your house before. The worst part is that you already know them.

  • Scream is the only one of these where the monster takes the mask off and turns out to be
somebody who was at the party.
  • You watch people. You notice the small wrong notes in a conversation, and you have never
entirely been able to switch that off.
  • The franchise made the rules of horror part of the plot, which means the survivors are
the ones paying attention. You would be paying attention.
  • Everybody is a suspect, including the person who just offered to walk you home.

The Conjuring · The Warren Files · Since 2013

The Conjuring

Your nightmare is not really about you. It is about the people
asleep down the hall, and the fact that you are the one who moved them all here.

  • The Conjuring films are domestic horror. The house, the family, the perfectly ordinary
room that quietly stops feeling ordinary.
  • Your fear is protective rather than personal. What frightens you is failing somebody,
    not being hurt yourself.
  • This is the one franchise where belief is the weapon. The people who come through it are
the ones who are not alone and refuse to be.
  • Whatever is here did not come for you. It came for the household, and you are the one
    standing in the hallway.

2026 Is a Great Year for Original Horror

The film was executive produced by Haley Nicole Johnson, who is one of the reasons why we have the new film Obsession. Much like Littermates, the film had its United States premiere at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas, last year. With Johnson producing both, could this be setting up Littermates to be the next big thing in horror? We don’t know yet, but the trailer does have enough to have us intrigued by what Tinkham and Woloson have in store for us.

You can see what happens to Liam and Mel in Littermates, in theaters on November 6. More information on each entry can be found on the official Fantastic Fest film guide.
