Marcus Rashford has been left out of Manchester United’s travelling squad for Thursday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against Tottenham, following his recent declaration that he is “ready for a new challenge”.
The 27-year-old forward was not seen with his teammates as they departed for London on Wednesday afternoon.
The absence comes just days after Rashford publicly discussed his future at the club during a visit to his former primary school.
Speaking to journalist Henry Winter during his visit to Button Lane primary school, Rashford made clear his intentions to depart Old Trafford.

“For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps,” Rashford explained.
The United academy graduate stressed there would be no ill feelings upon his departure: “When I leave, it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United.”

While Rashford remains out of the squad, Garnacho has earned a recall for the Tottenham clash.
The Argentine was spotted at the team’s departure wearing a snood and black beanie hat as United’s squad gathered at an airport car park before travelling to Stockport train station.
Amorim addressed the situation in his pre-match press conference: “We have one more training. If they train well then I have to make a choice. We will see at the end of training.”

Rashford’s absence follows reports that he missed Monday’s training session at Carrington due to illness.
The forward was assessed by a club doctor and found to have a high temperature before being sent home to recover.
Despite being well enough to attend his planned school visit on Tuesday, a club day off, Rashford was not included in the travelling party for the crucial cup tie.
His future involvement remains uncertain following his comments about seeking a new challenge.
