After months of abuse, Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) makes a desperate bid for freedom in Coronation Street next week in what prove to be highly emotional offerings of the ITV soap, as he reports his abuser to the police.

The show legend, as viewers know, has been subjected to months of coercive controlling behaviour and violence from partner Theo Silverton (James Cartwright).

The ordeal has left Todd a shell of himself and for a time the only person who knew what he was going through was former flame and longtime confidante Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank), who tragically died in the Corriedale minibus crash in January.

Todd has spent months mourning the loss of his beloved Billy, much to the chagrin of vile and jealous Theo. But what he doesn’t know is that Theo, who repeatedly made him feel like Billy’s death was his fault, is actually the one who ended the vicar’s life when he left him trapped in the blaze.

And while Todd was at his lowest ebb, Theo continued to bully and manipulate him, with the abuse extending to his finances as well, with Todd left with no money to live on and often forced to go without food.

When it got too much, he stood up to Theo, telling him to ‘put him out of his misery’, which resulted in a temporary separation for the couple. But jealous Theo struggled to control his rage when he saw Todd moving on and thus orchestrated a last-minute wedding, giving his ex little chance to think, pressuring him into saying yes.

Theo’s mask slipped soon after, with the swiftness of the nuptials coupled with an incident of verbal abuse overheard by George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) leaving a number of Street residents suspecting that the builder is abusing Todd.

Determined to get away from the prying eyes of concerned folk, Theo manipulated Todd into moving to Belfast, with scenes last week seeing Todd lambast his loved ones when they voiced their concern.

But the situation escalates next week, with some pretty shocking scenes on the cards. Having been tipped off by Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) that Billy’s demise was no accident, Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) does some digging and, after a conversation with Theo, she suspects that he might’ve had a hand in her stepdad’s death.

And, horrified to learn Todd is moving with the killer to Belfast, the race against time is on for Summer, who soon shares her theory about Billy’s grisly end with her third dad, who is left reeling.

In a bid to stop the move, Summer joins forces with Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien), who notifies George of Todd’s imminent departure and thus they form a plan. But their efforts are foiled by Theo, who claims via the ring doorbell that he and Todd have already left.

Todd, meanwhile, begs Theo to unlock the bedroom door and let him back up the story to Sarah, which will prove that he can be trusted. Todd successfully convinces Sarah that what Theo said was the truth. Theo claims he’s going for a shower while Todd finishes the rest of the packing but once the abuser is out of sight, Todd instead resolves to make a bid for freedom.

Does he make it out of the flat?

Yes but not before another incident occurs, with pictures confirming that Todd has fresh injuries.

Subsequent scenes will see him bravely stand up to Theo, in a special episode devoted entirely to the storyline. Later, he heads to the police station to report the abuser as Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) and Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) listen.

Theo, meanwhile, knows the walls are closing in and thus prepares to leavebut as word of his controlling and violent nature spread across Weatherfield, will he manage to make it out? Or will justice be served?

That remains to be seen but with video evidence needed to strengthen Todd’s case, Sarah decides to rummage through Theo’s holdall in the back of his van in search of his tablet. Will she find what she needs?

Later, George accompanies Todd back to the flat but when the doorbell rings he’s left terrified and, with tears in his eyes, he makes a beeline for the exit.

Summer, meanwhile, goes in for a hug but Todd winces, leaving her devastated as she comes to realise just how fragile he is after what Theo put him through.

President Donald Trump has claimed the leader of North Korea used a derogatory term to describe former President Joe Biden’s mental fitness — which Trump himself has spent years mocking.

During a lengthy White House press conference Monday, Trump griped that numerous allied nations, including South Korea, have failed to assist the U.S. in its war against Iran.

“We have 45,000 soldiers in South Korea to protect us from Kim Jong Un, who I get along with very well as you know,” the president told reporters.

“He said very nice things about me,” Trump said of the North Korean autocrat. “He used to call Joe Biden a mentally r******* person…Joe Biden, he said he’s a mentally r******* person. He was so nasty to Joe Biden it was terrible. But to me he likes Trump.”

Kim, who became the country’s supreme leader in 2011, and other senior North Korean officials have spent years lobbing insults at U.S. politicians during years of tensions.

In 2014, the country’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, Ri Tong Il, referred to the U.S. as “a mentally r******* patient.”

In 2023, the supreme leader’s sister, Kim Yo Jong, lashed out at Biden over his warning that North Korean nuclear aggression would bring about the end of its regime. She described the former president as senile, but warned that her brother’s government would not dismiss Biden’s words as a “nonsensical remark from the person in his dotage.”

Even though Trump touted his warm relationship with Kim, he was not spared the North Korean leader’s scathing criticism. During Trump’s first term in office, the autocrat derided him as a “dotard,” a “frightened dog” and a “gangster fond of playing with fire.”

Trump became the first sitting U.S. president to meet with Kim in 2018. He met with him on two other occasions, while also boasting of “love letters” he received from the North Korean leader.

However, their talks about denuclearizing the Korean peninsula proved unsuccessful, and the country has conducted multiple missile tests in recent years. The latest test took place in late March, as the country attempts to create an arsenal capable of reaching the U.S. mainland, state media reported.

Despite this, Trump told reporters: “You notice how nice things are with North Korea. It’s very nice.”

Trump’s new comments on Biden are just the latest in a long string of personal attacks on the 83-year-old former president’s mental health. Trump, 79, has accused Biden of suffering from “serious cognitive decline.” During a presidential debate in 2024, he claimed Biden “doesn’t even know what he’s saying.”

Biden withdrew from the White House race in July 2024 amid mounting concerns about his physical and mental health.

At the same time, Trump has routinely trumpeted his own mental prowess, claiming during a March Cabinet meeting that he’s the only president to have taken a cognitive exam.

“But I aced it. I got them all right,” Trump claimed.

Manchester United could pick up some bargains in the summer transfer window depending on who is relegated from the Premier League.

Manchester United have another important summer transfer window ahead of them. United really should qualify for next season’s Champions League. That means the transfer budget should be increased and United know they need a larger squad to cope with the increased number of fixtures. The Reds will be expected to spend big.

Leeds United: There is a temptation to say Dominic Calvert-Lewin but I don’t think that is a deal worth doing now. As a free transfer last year perhaps he was worth a look, but that ship has sailed. I’d actually consider Anton Stach. If Manuel Ugarte goes I think United need three midfielders this season and Stach, 27, would be a good option as the third-choice. He’s impressed for Leeds this season.

Nottingham Forest: It’s got to be Elliot Anderson, hasn’t it? He’s United’s top midfield target and I think he’s an excellent player. The data backs it up as to his all-round abilities. There are a few good players at Forest who could move; they shouldn’t really be in this position.

Tottenham Hotspur: The same is true of Spurs. How on Earth are they flirting with relegation? Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are tempting, as is Dejan Kulusevski, who has been a big miss for Tottenham. But on the theme of midfield, let’s go for Archie Gray. He looks an excellent player and is mature beyond his years.

West Ham United: Not as many options here. United need a left-winger and Crysencio Summerville has had a good run, but the sample size is small. Back on the midfield theme, let’s go with 21-year-old Mateus Fernandes, who looks worthy of a place in the Premier League.

Burnley: Hmmm. Not a lot to go at here. Maxime Esteve has looked decent, but United don’t need another young centre-back. Zian Flemming has done a job up front, but he isn’t Old Trafford quality. I’d take a risk on Jaidon Anthony, who could offer some depth on the flanks.

Wolverhampton Wanderers: Wolves have had a pretty decent end to the season, and there are a few players in that squad unlikely to be hanging around in the Championship. Midfield pair Andre and Joao Gomes fit that bill and I’d opt for Gomes, who is Premier League-proven and capable of being a squad player at least at United.

Leeds United: After all these years, Calvert-Lewin is still a prolific striker waiting to happen. He would thrive in a team that creates plenty of chances, as United do. But James Justin is a hugely underrated defender who would be a value-for-money utility player

Nottingham Forest: Even if Forest do not go down, there will be a transfer melee over Anderson, who, you suspect, has a release clause in his City Ground deal. Gibbs-White would also be a very attractive target.

Tottenham Hotspur: In terms of profile and age, Lucas Bergvall ticks a lot of boxes. You cannot have too many options in the centre of midfield and Bergvall is a mobile, intelligent operator who would be gettable at around the £40million mark.

West Ham United: Again, there would be a serious scrap for his services, but should the Hammers go down, United should flex their muscles and go all out for Bowen.

Burnley: There will not be a scramble for Burnley players, that is for sure, but one or two might raise an interest. And with central midfield being an area which needs strengthening, United might want to run a check on Anthony.

Wolverhampton Wanderers: Amidst their troubled season, one youngster to catch the eye at Molineux has been Mateus Mane. He is a confident young man with an eye for the unexpected and a decent hit on him.

Jack Flintham

Leeds United: United need a striker and Calvert-Lewin has done well but has not scored in the Premier League since the start of February. I expect Altay Bayindir will leave and if he does, Karl Darlow could be a back-up option. He’s experienced, knows the Premier League and could do a job in the cup games.

Nottingham Forest: It is one of two for me. Morgan Gibbs-White was unfortunate not to make the England squad and could definitely add value to United’s midfield. However, Anderson is a top target for a reason and the Reds should be going all out to sign him.

Tottenham Hotspur: There will be bargains galore if Spurs go down. A centre-back would be nice in the summer and I would lean towards Van de Ven over Romero. The Argentine proved at Old Trafford that he cannot be trusted, while his defensive partner is way too good to be battling it out at the wrong end of the table.

West Ham United: The Irons will do everything to keep him but Jarrod Bowen is the standout player in their squad. You know exactly what you get from him.

Burnley: It is slim pickings at Turf Moor for United. Flemming’s record of eight goals in 22 Premier League games is decent for a side who have struggled to find the net. Whether he has the quality to really push Benjamin Sesko is unclear.

Wolverhampton Wanderers: A lot of the Wolves squad have helped themselves by putting up a fight since Rob Edwards joined. Gomes would be the midfielder I lean towards to fill the gap left behind by Casemiro. Matheus Cunha could help persuade him to move to the north west.

Emmerdale’s Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) is sitting on the knowledge that Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) is in prison because of him. 

He was blackmailed by Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) into framing Moira for the modern slavery operation by placing passports and IDs of Celia’s enslaved workers on Moira’s farm, and the trick worked a little too well. 

Robert might be a bit of a bad lad, but he has a conscience, and it’s not sitting well with him that he’s responsible for her incarceration while her family around her crumbles. She’s been cleared of Celia Daniels’ and Anya’s murders, that’s something at least.

Moira has languished in prison as her farm has been sold from beneath her, and the guilt has grown in Robert.

But for Moira nothing is getting better. Though the murder charges have since been dropped, the modern slavery ones remain, and because of Robert’s involvement, there looks like no way out of those, and Moira decides she needs to plead guilty to the charges. This is shocking news and the only one who can resolve this situation is Robert himself.

Robert visits Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) in prison in a bid to pump him for information that might help Moira. Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), is also on the hunt for evidence, having seen the impact of this mess on his best mate Mack (Lawrence Robb).

Actor Ryan Hawley ramped up the drama, saying: ‘[Robert] goes to Bear because he’s his absolute last chance, race against the clock. Robert’s going to have to turn himself in and confess to all the things that he’s done by planting the evidence to prevent Moira from getting a really long sentence and being away from her family and kids.’

Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) finds out about Robert’s visit to Bear and loses it, but before Paddy goes too mad, Sam Dingle (James Hooton) announces that Kyle has gone missing. The poor lad overheard that Moira plans to plead guilty and took off.

The whole clan go out searching, but it’s Robert who finds him and in their moment alone, he vows to get his mum back. 

Aaron is left wide eyed when Robert announces the next part of this plan – he will turn himself in. It’s the only way and Aaron knows it, and begs for just one more night. 

Speaking of Robert’s decision to come clean, Ryan said: ‘Robert finds Kyle, and he makes a decision off the back of Kyle saying how it’s impacted his life, Moira going to prison. And I think Robert really feels that. He feels the weight of the consequences of what he’s done, and feels that the only way that he can make things right is by putting himself back in the situation where he’d get charged with tampering with evidence and then have to go to prison.’

Bear tells Robert about a number plate that he once hid for Ray which gives Aaron new hope that they can resolve this before going to the police, but they’re on borrowed time before Moira pleads guilty.

A retail worker complained after opening her Easter egg

Cadbury have made an admission after a shopper made a complaint. The chocolate giant admitted their Crunchie Easter eggs are only including one ‘fun-sized’ bar due to ‘higher costs’ – after a customer shamed them for ‘shrinkflation’.

A retail worker was stunned to open her Cadbury Easter egg and find only a ‘fun-sized’ Crunchie instead of a full-sized bar – branding it the perfect example of ‘shrinkflation’. Natalie Norton had purchased the Easter egg from Tesco for the Clubcard price of £2.85 last month as a ‘Sunday treat’ for her and her mum to share.

But when she went to tuck into her chocolate, the 34 year old was shocked to discover it only came with a ‘treatsized’ Crunchy chocolate bar instead of a full-sized one. Footage shows Natalie holding the ‘treatsized’ Crunchie bar in her hand that she claims was so small her and her mum only had a ‘bite each’.

At first, the food retail worker believed there had been a mix-up with the size but after reading the back of the Easter egg box, discovered this was the correct chocolate bar. According to the Office of National Statistics [ONS], shrinkflation is used to describe the phenomenon of products reducing in size but remaining the same price.

Natalie claims this is a perfect example of ‘shrinkflation’ in the cost-of-living crisis as she claims you used to get ‘two full-sized bars in an Easter egg’ a few years ago. Cadbury confirmed that the egg used to come with two treatsized bars but this had been reduced to just one due to them experiencing ‘significantly higher input costs across their supply chain’.

Natalie, from Coventry in the West Midlands, said: “When it says one bar [on the packaging], I expected it to be a full-sized Crunchie not fun-sized. I said to my mum, ‘what the hell is this? Are they having a laugh? Me and my mum bought it to share as a Sunday treat and we struggled to share the fun-sized bar, we each had a bite each.

“A couple of years ago you used to get a couple of full-sized bars in an Easter egg so this is why I was shocked it was a fun-sized bar. It’s a perfect example of the cost-of-living crisis and shrinkflation. Everything is getting smaller but prices are still going up.

“The size shocked me and I asked my mum if someone had made a mistake but I guess this is what it is now. I like Cadbury but an extra bit of Crunchie would have been nice.”

A recent check showed that on the Tesco website the 167g egg was priced at £3.50 for Clubcard members and £4.50 regular price. And, after sharing a video of the chocolate bar she received in her Easter egg online, other users said they were just as shocked at the size of it.

One user said: “More shrinkflation. Used to get a full-sized bar. Not that party sized bar.”

Another added: “They didn’t specify the size of the bar, did they? You assumed.”

A third commented to say: “It’s always been a bar…never hero size. This shows that it’s true – chocolate and Easter eggs are getting smaller.” A fourth said: “The next generation isn’t going to have Easter eggs any more, the amount they are reducing the sizes of them.”

A spokesperson for Mondelēz International, which owns Cadbury, said: “We understand the economic pressures that consumers continue to face and raising prices is a last resort for our business.

“However, as a food producer, we are continuing to experience significantly higher input costs across our supply chain. This means that our products continue to be much more expensive to make and while we have absorbed these costs where possible, we still face considerable challenges.

“As a result, we made the carefully considered decision to reduce the number of individual Treatsize bars included in our Cadbury Crunchie Shell Egg (167g) from two to one, so that we can continue to provide consumers with the brands they love, without compromising on the great taste and quality they expect. All product details are labelled clearly on pack so consumers can make an informed choice before buying.”

Tesco were also contacted for comment.

Donald Trump spoke at the White House this evening after threatening to obliterate Iran’s power plants if the deadline he gave the country to re-open the Strait of Hormuz was not met

The US President Donald Trump has warned Iran that tomorrow (Tuesday) might be the night the “entire country is taken out”. The president told reporters: “The entire country can be taken out in one night, and that night might be tomorrow night.”

It comes as he gives a global address this evening, just days after issuing threats to Iran. The US President had previously set a self-imposed deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which has caused oil prices to soar in recent weeks, Daily Star reports.

Trump had given Tehran an initial deadline of Monday night, Washington time, stating that if no agreement was reached to reopen the strait, the US would target Iran’s power plants and other infrastructure, setting the country “back to the stone ages”. This comes as the “48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them” is due to conclude.

He announced on his platform Truth Social that he would hold the press conference with military personnel in the Oval Office at 1pm local time – 6pm UK time tonight – following the rescue of a US airman from Iran.

Mr Trump also posted “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran”, hinting at further strikes to come.

Meanwhile, Secretary of defence Pete Hegseth shared that the rescued pilot’s first words were “God is good”.

The pilot evaded capture for a day in rugged terrain and said “God is good,” when found by his American rescuers.

“His faith and fighting spirit shone through,” said Hegseth, who pointed out that he was shot down on Good Friday and rescued on Easter Sunday.

Jake Rothwell, 36, is remembered by his two children Theo and Lucia, partner Beccy and close family.

He was known for his “warmth, humour, and social nature”, as well as his love for Bolton Wanderers.

To celebrate his life, best friend Luke Robinson shared a heartfelt appeal, calling on the Bolton Wanderers community to pay tribute.

He said: “My best friend Jake Rothwell died suddenly at the tender age of 36, leaving behind his son, daughter, mother, siblings, partner and countless friends and acquaintances.

“He was very popular in the Farnworth community as he was naturally gifted at social connections.

“It’s a real tough pill to swallow for us all, but there has been an influx of support from so many people and that is very humbling for those closest to him.”

“Almost three years ago to the day of his passing, we went to Wembley together to watch the Whites lift a trophy and had the best day.

“Jake loved the Whites and loved the matches we attended together.”

As a tribute, Luke invited fans to mark the 36th minute of the home game against Stockport County on Monday, April 6, with applause in Jake’s honour.

Bolton Wanderers are scheduled to play County at 3pm today at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

“This would be a real comforting moment for his family in attendance, who are very much in their raw stages of grief, and what better way to uplift them than community spirit.

“There is absolutely no pressure for anyone to join in, but if you all could find the time for his family in attendance it would mean the world.”

The message drew hundreds of reactions online, including comments from Stockport fans expressing condolences and setting aside sporting rivalries to support the family.

At this afternoon’s match, rapturous applause filled the stadium as fans clapped in the April sunshine in tribute to Jake.

A GoFundMe page, set up by Rebecca Wheeler, has already raised nearly £6,000 to help the family give Jake “the send-off he deserves”.

The family said: “It is with great sadness that we are announcing our Jake passed away unexpectedly and we, his family, are absolutely devastated.

“He has left behind two beautiful children, Theo and Lucia, his partner Beccy, Lyla, his Mum Gaynor, his brother and sister Jordan and Katie, and his niece and nephew Mason and Reya, not to mention countless friends and extended family members.

“As many of you know, he was the life and soul of any room he walked into.

“He loved to laugh and sing and dance and we will be honouring that on the day we say goodbye for the last time.”

A memorial will be held at Lavender Road Cricket Club on Saturday, April 11.

It will begin from 1pm, with a balloon release at 2pm.

Attendees are encouraged to wear blue and white, bring their own balloons, and participate in a Grand National sweepstake and football card games, with all proceeds going to the GoFundMe.

Hundreds of people lined the streets to see the record-breaking 1,264 bikers rev into Darlington, with riders dressed as Captain America, the Easter Bunny and Minions.

Bikers arrived at Darlington Memorial Hospital after setting off from Durham Tesco at Dragonsville at 10am.

The convoy took a break at the hospital to hand out Easter eggs to children, with some even getting to sit on bikes.

They set off again at 12pm, headed for University Hospital of North Durham to hand out more Easter eggs.

Organiser Graeme Mills said: “It was our biggest year ever, with 1,264 bikes. It has gone fantastic, that’s the only word I can say.

“I think this has been the biggest year for public support along the route. It makes it a spectacular event, and I am really pleased the public turned out to support in some not so good weather conditions too.”

And a £500 grant from Broadacres’ Community Development Fund will help the Thirsk and Sowerby Festival mark its first decade in style.

“A lot of families are struggling financially so we want to put on a day where all the attractions are for free or at minimal cost so everyone can enjoy them,” said Ben Smith, Chair of the organising committee.

“The grant from Broadacres will help us to do that by covering the cost of various acts and prizes so everyone can enjoy an affordable day out.”

Ben was recruited as a 13-year-old schoolboy to be part of the planning for the first ever festival and now, ten years later, he’ll be overseeing the whole event as Chair.

“We have grown from an event that attracted 300 people to a soapbox derby and couple of food vans to one with up to 5,000 visitors, 75 stalls and event stage,” said Ben.

“In that time we have remained true to our original roots and this year will be the same, we want to provide an affordable day for local families to enjoy and also for local businesses to promote their services.”

The 2026 festival takes place on The Flatts on Sunday, August 2 and features a wide range of acts, including magician, owl display, bouncy castle, obstacle course, children’s soft play area and the ever popular soapbox derby.

New this year will be a community bus service to collect and return people from neighbouring villages.

The Broadacres Community Development Fund supports local organisations, groups, and projects in areas where Broadacres has homes.

Temperatures are set to surge as high as 24C in London later this week, making the capital hotter than Barcelona, according to the Met Office.

The blustery conditions of Storm Dave are forecast to be replaced by sunshine and warm weather with temperatures set to reach 24C in London and 20C in Manchester on Wednesday.

Highs of 24C would be enough to surpass the hottest day of the year so far, which was 20.9C in Gogerddan near Aberystwyth on 18 March.

It will also mean many parts of the UK will be hotter than Barcelona which is set to reach 19C on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

Tuesday will also be sunny in the UK with temperatures reaching 20C in London and 19C in Glasgow.

However the warm weather is not set to last as the Met Office has forecast temperatures to only reach 14C in London on Thursday, with most of the UK seeing the mercury drop below 10C.

It comes after Storm Dave brought snow and strong winds over Easter weekend, causing travel chaos and leaving homes without power as it swept across northern parts of the UK.

Gusts reached 93mph at Capel Curig in North Wales, while winds of 75mph were recorded at Emley Moor in West Yorkshire and St Bees Head in Cumbria, and one of 73mph was recorded at Buchan in Aberdeenshire, the Met Office said.

Some properties in Scotland were left without power following the high winds overnight. Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) fault response teams were out on the network working to reconnect the small number of customers affected, mainly in Skye, Caithness and coastal parts of Aberdeenshire.
