Leeds 3-1 Chelsea – Leeds out of relegation zone
Leeds produced a memorable win when they needed it to beat Chelsea at Elland Road and climb out of the Premier League relegation zone.
Reports this week had suggested that Daniel Farke’s job was at risk but the German saw his team put in a spirited shift that was too much for a much-changed Chelsea side who slide to fifth in the table.
Defender Jaka Bijol broke the deadlock early with a great header from a corner and Ao Tanaka doubled the lead with a whistling shot from the edge of the area.
The Japanese midfielder’s first goal in the Premier League was also the first scored by an Asian player for Leeds in the Premier League.
Enzo Maresca made a double change at the break and was rewarded when one sub Pedro Neto scored, prodding in at the far post after a good cross from Jamie Gittens.
Cole Palmer came on for his first action since September and had a fine chance to equalise but dragged a shot wide after a strong run down the left by Alejandro Garnacho.
And Chelsea were punished when Dominic Calvert-Lewin took advantage of some shambolic defending from Tosin to score a third.
The former Fulham man dallied on the ball inside the six-yard box, Noah Okafor took it off him and Calvert-Lewin prodded in from close range.
