Lao and Thai rescue teams shared the news Friday, including a video showing the first rescued villager walking unsteadily with assistance. He was handed over to other team members for a medical check amid a waiting crowd.
The five villagers were located by divers Wednesday but rescue workers still face the dual challenge of extricating the remaining individuals and locating two more who are still missing.
Evacuations for the other four were paused until Saturday because they were not yet ready, according to Chakkit Taengtang of the Sai Than Association, one of the Thai rescue organizations on site.

Rescue teams had been pumping water out of the flooded cave passages throughout Friday, but a morning rainstorm complicated their efforts. The trapped men have been supplied with water, soft food, and foil blankets to help them stay warm.
The villagers reportedly entered the cave last week in search of valuable minerals before being caught by flash flooding that blocked their exit. One other villager managed to escape in time and alerted authorities to the seven left behind.
This image made from the video provided by Benz Norrased Palasing Seascout Diving shows the villagers who were trapped and found in a flooded cave in Xaisomboun province, Laos, Wednesday, May 27, 2026 (Benz Norrased Palasing Seascout)
A video filmed inside the cave on Thursday vividly captured the desperation of the trapped men. Thai rescue diver Norrased Palasing spoke with a villager named Khamla, who urgently requested the group be allowed to swim out immediately.
“I can’t go on. I don’t have any strength,” he said.
Norrased reassured him that the water was being drained, providing blankets and food, and cautioned Khamla to eat slowly to prevent digestive issues.

Divers from several nations joined the rescue effort
Rescue teams from Laos and neighboring Thailand were joined by Japanese and Malaysian colleagues. Indonesian and French specialists also had been reported to be coming to the site in a rugged area in the central province of Xaisomboun, about 120 kilometers (75 miles) north of the capital, Vientiane.
Working in the dark in unfamiliar surroundings, divers had to make their way through twisting, narrow, flooded passages with jagged walls.
A good rescue plan depends on “the length of the dives involved, the restrictions and the sheer size of the passages that they are in, and the support that’s available,” said Gary Mitchell, press officer for the South & Mid Wales Cave Rescue Team, which is associated with the British Cave Rescue Council.
Other necessities normally include the space and equipment to recharge air or oxygen cylinders, and a medical team.
Rescuers must weigh risks of waiting for flooding to recede
At the same time, rescuers must weigh the high risks of guiding survivors without diving skills through zero-visibility water against the strategy of waiting for water levels to recede, said Mitchell, who took part in the complicated 2018 cave rescue in northern Thailand of 12 schoolboys and their soccer coach. Several of the divers at the Lao site had also taken part in the Thai rescue.
“You can’t leave people underground too long without medical support, without proper food, sustenance, clean water … before their condition is going to deteriorate,” Mitchell warned Thursday from Wales in a video interview.
The five found Wednesday were identified by their first names as Khamla, Mued, Ee, Ing, and Laen. They were reportedly in good health but exhausted from dehydration and lack of food.
A video filmed by Norrased showed the emotional moment he and Finnish diving instructor Mikko Paasi emerged from the water and discovered the trapped men sitting on a rock surrounded by floodwater.
Mued delivered a message to his family on camera, saying, “Don’t worry mom, dad. I’m still strong, I’m still healthy. Tomorrow I will be home. I love you, mom and dad.”
Lao officials say the villagers normally forage in the mountainous surroundings for a living.

The villagers are believed to have been searching for gold
The villagers had been reported to have entered the cave to look for gold deposits. Bounphong Khammanyvong, a local official in Longcheng, the district where the cave is located, said they had noticed rocks or sand with unusual colors in the cave, so they entered it in the hope of digging them out to see if they were valuable.
Bounphong, in an interview on Thursday with local media outlet Xaisomboun Province Television, said the villagers entered the cave on May 20, contradicting rescuers who put the date at May 19.

Arteta also dismissed the suggestion that the pressure is off for Arsenal, having already won a trophy in the shape of a first Premier League title in 22 years.
“No, the ambition is bigger, we have one [trophy] and we want the second one,” said the Spanish manager.
“That is all we have been talking about. There has to be a platform to reach bigger destinations and to aim for more.
“The team is capable because they have shown it in the last seasons [in] this competition, what we have done this season in the competition.

“I want the players to be so confident that we are going to go and do it.”
PSG come into the match as favourites and the French side defeated Arsenal in the semi-finals of the tournament last year.
They are looking to become only the second team to win back-to-back titles in the Champions League era.
“They are defending the trophy and they are the champions and we are here to take that away from them,” Arteta said.
A road next to a busy Cambridgeshire train station is set to close for three weeks while works take place. Greater Cambridge Partnership has announced that Station Road will be closed to vehicles at the Shepreth level crossing for approximately three weeks from Monday June 1.
This is part of the Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP)’s work on the Melbourn Greenway, which aims to make walking, wheeling and cycling from Melbourn into Cambridge easier and safer. The closure of Station Road in Shepreth will prevent all vehicle access to and from Barrington Road via the level crossing.
Access to the station, local businesses and Docwra’s Close will remain open and managed through temporary traffic lights. Vehicles may need to follow a diversion. Pedestrian routes, including those over the level crossing, will remain open for the duration of the work.
As part of the project, the GCP said Shepreth will benefit from new, more accessible crossing points, including outside Shepreth Village Hall. There will also be new double yellow lines on Station Road, which aims to reduce congestion and improve safety around the level crossing, and a new 20mph zone from the Barrons Green / Fowlmere Road junction to Shepreth railway station.
Works also include raised tables at key junctions to slow vehicle speeds and support safer crossings along Fowlmere Road. Traffic‑calming measures on Fowlmere Road, including speed humps, a reduced speed limit, and upgraded street lighting, will also be completed.
Kerry Allen, GCP Project Manager, said: “These works are a key part of creating a safer and better‑connected route for everyone who travels through Shepreth. Once complete, the improvements will support safer crossings, calmer traffic and a more welcoming environment for walking and cycling.
“We know this work will cause some short-term disruption and would like to thank the community for their patience as we move closer to delivering the benefits of the Melbourn Greenway.”
Set to arrive in theaters this September, the forthcoming movie tracks the origins of the hit investigative news program, which ran from 2004 to 2007 and followed Hansen’s operations to catch adult men arriving at a sting house to have sex with minors. Primetime also features Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, Matthew Maher and Bokeem Woodbine, and marks director Lance Oppenheim’s narrative feature film debut.
The film’s first trailer was released earlier this week, and teases Pattinson’s strikingly transformed voice as Hansen. “At the end of the day, man must be held accountable for the decisions that he makes. Do you agree?” he says in a voice-over. “Do you watch television? Well, there’s something you should know. I’m Chris Hansen with Dateline NBC, and you’re about to be a part of television history.”
Appearing on a recent segment of News Nation, Hansen, 66, addressed the movie’s first look.

“What? There’s a movie trailer?” he exclaimed, feigning shock. “What will they think of next?”
Chris Hansen (left) will be played by Robert Pattinson (right) in A24’s new drama ‘Primetime,’ based on NBC’s true-crime series ‘To Catch a Predator’ (Getty)
“He’s an actor, right? Young, talented guy?” he asked of Pattinson before being shown the clip.
“I mean, he sounds a lot like you,” argued newscaster Jesse Weber. “Did you have any idea about this? Did you have any working relationship with this?”
“We had heard that there was something like this in the works,” Hansen replied. “They reached out to me this week, and I’ve been asked not to talk about it a great deal at this point.”
When Weber again suggested Pattinson’s impression was fairly accurate, Hansen somewhat agreed. “Little bit,” he said. “Very dramatic.”

Hansen presented NBC Dateline’s To Catch a Predator across its entire three-year run. The series was canceled in 2008, following the suicide of Texas assistant district attorney Bill Conradt after he was “caught” and served an arrest warrant during production.
Hansen first joined the network in 1993 as a correspondent for Now with Tom Brokaw and Katie Couric. He has won a total of eight Emmy awards throughout his career for his investigative reporting.

Primetime is expected to premiere in theaters this September, but an exact date has not yet been announced.
The warnings come after multiple products sold nationwide were recalled over potential health risks.
The Food Standards Agency has issued several “do not eat” notices affecting items stocked across major supermarkets.
Customers who may have purchased affected products are being advised not to consume them.
Officials say anyone who has bought the products should follow recall guidance, which may include returning items for a refund or disposing of them safely.
Morrisons recall
Morrisons is recalling one of its Morrisons Savers items from supermarkets across England, Scotland and Wales because it may contain pieces of glass.
The supermarket chain has recalled the Morrisons Savers Cashews as a result of the possible presence of glass.
The affected items come in packs of 125g and have best before dates of August 9, September 6, September 26, September 28 and October 9.

A spokesman for the Food Standards Agency (FSA) said: “Morrisons is recalling the above product.
“Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling it. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought it.
“If you have bought the above product do not consume it. Instead, return it to the nearest store for a full refund.”

A Morrisons spokesman added: “No other products are affected by this issue.
“We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and assure customers of our continuing commitment to the highest standard of product quality and safety.”
Gü recall
Shoppers at Tesco and Waitrose have been issued a “do not eat” warning after a Gü dessert was recalled.
The Gü Double Sea Salted Caramel Frozen Dessert, sold at Tesco and Waitrose, has been removed from supermarket shelves because it may contain hazelnuts and soya not mentioned on the label.
As a result, the dessert is a health risk to anyone with an allergy to nuts or soya.
The affected product has a lot number of 126135 and a best before date of June 30, 2027.
A spokesman for the Food Standards Agency (FSA) said: “Gü is recalling the above product from customers and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.
“These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.
“If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to hazelnuts (nuts) and/or soya do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.
“No receipt required. For more information, please contact recall@gupuds.com.”
A Gü spokesman added: “The issue is limited to a very small number of products (believed to be less than 10 units). However, as a precautionary measure and in line with our commitment to consumer safety, the affected date code is being recalled.
“We have taken proactive steps to further mitigate the issue, including strengthened allergen and packing controls within production.
“We believe the majority of consumers who purchased the affected products will already have been contacted or notified.”
What is a product recall?
If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).
The FSA issues Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food.
In some cases, a ‘Food Alert for Action’ is issued.

This provides local authorities with details of specific actions to be taken on behalf of consumers.
Arsenal are set take on French giants Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final in Budapest on Saturday evening as they continue their hunt for what would be a historic double
Mikel Arteta insists Arsenal’s “ambition is bigger” to win the Champions League as he eyes a historic double. Arsenal boss Arteta dismissed any suggestion there is less pressure on his players now after they won the Premier League for the first time in 22 years.
Instead, Arteta says they are determined to win another trophy and complete a historic season because Arsenal have never won the European Cup before.
Arteta said: “The ambition is bigger. We have one, and now we want the second one. That’s all we’ve been talking about. There has to be a platform to reach bigger destinations and to aim for more.
“And the team is capable, because we’ve shown it in the last two seasons, in this competition. What we’ve done this season in the competition, and I want the players to be so confident that we’re going to win.
“I think it’s the opportunity to own the moment, because, as you said, it’s the second time in our history that we are here, and we have the opportunity tomorrow to write a new chapter in the history of this football club.
“And in order to do that, we have to play tomorrow. With such a clarity, a lot of courage, and a relentless desire to win. We have those three aspects, and I’m sure we’re going to be close to winning.
“The players want more, I think. Going through those moments brings you a different kind of desire, because you lift it, you know exactly how it feels, and you want to reproduce that feeling as many times as possible. And tomorrow we have the opportunity to do that.
“It would mean something new for all of us, and we know how tough it is in a club like Arsenal to write a new history. But that’s the aim, and that’s why we are all so excited and we have such a desire to make it happen.”
Arteta accepts that Paris Saint Germain will start as favourites – but is super confident that his players can upset the odds.
Arteta added: “Well, they are defending the trophy, so they were the last ones that had the right to lift that trophy, and they are actually the champions, and we are here to take that away from them.
“But I feel it, it’s great, we’ve done it, we earned it, we’ve fought for so long in the Premier League to achieve that after 22 years, and now we have another opportunity to do it.
“And the journey that we have in the competition shows that we are capable of doing that tomorrow, and the boys are, you know, with the level of desire at the maximum, for sure.”

Oh my word! Djokovic suddenly stretches out his shoulder and palm after Fonseca wins the first point… and then it becomes three break points as Fonseca shoots a forehand down the line and Djokovic can’t respond!
Djokovic takes a big breath after saving the first, with Fonseca missing. The Brazilian then strikes the net with the forehand return, looking for the down-the-line winner.
It sits up for Fonseca to strike… but Djokovic somehow reads it and puts the forehand back down the line despite being off balance! Wow, that’s a big moment. Deuce.

*Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-3, 3-6 0-0 Joao Fonseca
So we’ve played two-and-a-half hours. If Djokovic wins this set it’ll go to around three-and-a-half , if Fonseca wins it and forces a fifth we’ll be going to at least four hours.
Every minute counts for the 39-year-old Djokovic. Here’s what he said after being taken to a fourth by Valentin Royer on Thursday.
“Reasonably long,” Djokovic said. “When you play a three-and-a-half hour match on clay, it’s long and very exhausting. At least in my opinion.
“So physically (I) spent quite a bit of energy today on a very hot day. Very challenging conditions. It was obviously my fault I didn’t finish in straight sets, because I broke up twice in the third match point.”
Here we go… set number four.

THIRD SET! *Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-3, 3-6 Joao Fonseca
Tense moments for Fonseca as he serves for the set. A pick-up volley goes wrong, and sees him face 15-30. Djokovic races so far wide to reach a smash that he runs off the court, but manages to get the defensive lob in play. Fonseca smiles, knowing Djokovic won’t make this easy.
And here comes the break point: Fonseca pushes a forehand long. But he goes for a bold second-serve down the middle and finds the spot! Djokovic can’t believe it after putting the forehand out.
ACE from Fonseca on deuce! He roars after it, too! Set point. ANOTHER ACE! The explosion from his fans tells you everything you need to know. He has forced a fourth! Not what Djokovic wanted!

*Novak Djokovic 6-4 6-3 2-5 Joao Fonseca
This is impressive from Fonseca, who is dictating behind serve and getting his forehand strike in play early. He holds comfortably to move a game away from winning the third set. Djokovic presses a couple of ice packs to his face and neck at the changeover. It’s hot work out there.
Elsewhere, Urkraine’s Elina Svitolina has joined compatriot Marta Kostyuk in the fourth round by breezing past Tamara Korpatsch 6-2 6-3. The seventh seed is moving through the draw nicely and will play either Belinda Bencic or Peyton Stearns in the last-16.

Meanwhile, Jakub Mensik is back on court after his five-hour, five-set epic on Wednesday, an effort that saw him collapse after winning match point. He has lost the opening set 6-0 to eighth seed Alex de Minaur, who is up against a fatigued opponent.

*Novak Djokovic 6-4 6-3 1-4 Joao Fonseca
Another little test past by Fonseca, and in some style. He roars after a forehand winner blasted into the corner! Such effortless power, and he is able to dictate more and more of these rallies.

*Novak Djokovic 6-4 6-3 0-3 Joao Fonseca
WHAT A GAME! Fonseca fends off a couple of break points from Djokovic in court-stretching rallies to win an epic mini battle and stay ahead in the third. Fonseca used the drop shot wonderfully there, and really showed his all-court ability. Djokovic is getting very frustrated and covers his face with his towel. Fonseca has the fans alive and asks for more.

BREAK! Novak Djokovic 6-4 6-3 0-2 Joao Fonseca*
Djokovic was very annoyed to be taken into a third set by Valentin Royer in the previous round so would like to get this match over and done with as soon as possible now.
Fonseca, though, drags Djokovic into deuce and wins a gutsy point, forcing Djokovic behind the baseline, to bring break point. Djokovic’s serve has deserted him…

Ah this is sublime. Djokovic races to his right to meet a fierce drive from Fonseca, then scuttles to his left and dispatches a backhand winner. He celebrates by pointing to his ear.
Two set points, for a two-set lead: Djokovic finds the serve and puts the forehand drive past Fonseca, wrong-footing him. Djokovic is cruising, but is very irritated by a cameraman getting too close to him in the changeover…
Lots of work to do for Fonseca. The players head off court. So far, so good for Djokovic after just 90 minutes.

French Open: Rafael Jodar wins five-setter!
Rafael Jodar battles on! Roland Garros has a new Rafa and the Spanish teenager is through to the fourth round of a grand slam for the first time, battling from two sets to one down to beat Alex Michelsen in five. The American received treatment on a back injury in the fourth, but Jodar showed impressive grit there to get through in four hours. He will play fellow Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta, the No 89, in the fourth round. What an opportunity that is to reach a quarter-final.
“A dream come true,” he says. “I had to fight, it was a tough match.”
Katie Price says Interpol told her she would be a “good detective” after her missing husband was found and told her she had been a huge help as they looked for Lee Andrews
Katie Price says Interpol told her she would be a “good detective” after her missing husband was found. The ex-glamour model, 48, tied the knot with Dubai-based businessman Lee Andrews just a fortnight after she met him early this year, but he failed to board a flight to the UK earlier this month and his whereabouts was unknown for weeks.
Katie, who hosts The Katie Price Show with her sister Sophie, has spoken at length about the incident in the latest episode of her weekly podcast, and has now claimed that Interpol said she had helped them tremendously, and claimed that she would likely make a success of it if she were to have a major career change.
“It has been a worry and they have been amazing, to the point that they said I would be an amazing detective. You know I wanted to be a paramedic but I might even try to be a detective. They said ‘It’s not the same kind of money Kate.’”
“They said I’ve helped so much. The way I think about things, giving them clues, which they obviously know from intelligence. But they actually said, ‘Do you know what Kate? We do a lot of these cases and you would be a good detective yourself!”
Sophie shook her head in disbelief but Katie seemed confident as she said: “I’m like yes, where’s my prefect badge?”
Katie suggested to her sister that Lee come on the podcast for a chat, but she shot down the idea instantly and firmly suggested: “If you want to do a separate chat with him, that’s down to you.” It’s thought that Lee was arrested on May 14, having been hiding out up until that point.
It’s also been claimed that he now must pay a four-figure fine and is expected to be released from prison on Monday.
Elsewhere on the podcast, Sophie asked about the other woman Lee followed, but Katie denied Lee was behind this. It was revealed that Marisol, the woman Lee briefly followed, previously used an online matchmaking service for millionaires, The Sun reports.
But Katie told her sister: “What happened with that other woman was apparently she activated her account and maybe she followed Lee or Lee followed her years ago. They’ve never exchanged messages or nothing. So she’s blocked him and that’s why it’s gone back.”
There had been speculation that Katie was involved in a publicity stunt surrounding Lee’s vanishing act earlier this month, although she vehemently denied these claims, and expressed her worry that Lee had become a victim of kidnap.

At the time, she added: “I’m really upset and distressed that people think I’m in on it. Are you joking? Come on, give me some credit why would I do that?”
