WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The New York Yankees scored 13 runs in an inning for the first time in nearly 21 years Sunday as their first 12 batters in the third reached safely against an overwhelmed pitching staff for the Athletics.
The game began well for A’s starter Jacob Lopez, who retired all six New York batters in the first two innings. But then trouble came quickly in the third when he failed to retire any of the seven hitters he faced, starting with a single by Anthony Volpe.
The totals in the inning were staggering as the Yankees had 11 hits and four walks. They sent 18 batters to the plate and faced 75 pitches during their most productive inning since scoring 13 runs in the eighth against Tampa Bay on June 21, 2005. It was one off the franchise record for an inning set July 6, 1920, against Washington.
Lopez walked two batters after Volpe’s hit and then failed to cover the bag on Paul Goldschmidt’s bases-loaded grounder to first, allowing a run to score on an infield single. Ben Rice followed with a two-run double, Aaron Judge blooped a single to center and Cody Bellinger hit an RBI single to knock out Lopez.

The next five batters also reached safely against reliever Michael Kelly, marking the first time in 17 seasons that a team started an inning with 12 straight batters reaching safely, according to Sportradar. The Boston Red Sox were the previous team to do it on May 7, 2009, against Cleveland.
This marked the first time the Yankees had 12 consecutive batters reach safely in an inning since the first game of a doubleheader on Sept. 11, 1949, against Washington. It was just two batters off the record since 1920 that came when Detroit had 14 straight reach in the sixth inning against the Yankees on June 17, 1925, with Hall of Famer Ty Cobb hitting a home run in that inning.
The Yankees scored 10 runs before the first out was recorded when Goldschmidt struck out. Rice followed with a two-run triple, giving him two multi-run extra-base hits in the same inning.
Bellinger capped the scoring with an RBI single, marking the first time since 1950 that the A’s allowed at least 13 runs in an inning. They gave up 14 in the first inning of the second game of a June 18 doubleheader that season.

In all, eight of the nine Yankees batters had at least one hit and one RBI in the inning, with Austin Wells the lone exception with two walks. All nine batters scored a run.
The inning went so long — lasting 43 minutes — that Yankees starter Will Warren had to go to the bullpen to get loose during the inning.
The Kansas Baseball program swept through the regional round of the NCAA Tournament to claim its first-ever appearance in an NCAA Super Regional. The Jayhawks are now just two wins away from the College World Series in Omaha.
This was the first baseball regional where Kansas held a national seed and earned the opportunity to host. KU does have one previous CWS appearance back in 1993, but that was prior to the current Super Regional Format, which began in the 1999 season.

Over half of KU’s wins this year came in come-from-behind fashion, and this regional final against Arkansas was no different. I’ll mostly let you read about it from your favorite KU beat writers, but in short: After falling behind 5-0 through the first three innings, the Jayhawk offense ignited, scoring 11 unanswered runs. The two teams exchanged scoring opportunities throughout the 8th and 9th innings, but KU scored enough to send the Hogs packing.

KU has now swept through the Big 12 Tournament and the NCAA Regionals, winning their last 6 in a row and 8 of 9. As has been the case most of the season, KU rode a red-hot offense along with pitching that was just good enough.
Over the course of the season, KU went a combined 9-0 against Nebraska, Missouri, K-State, and Wichita State, but this is obviously way cooler than that stat. I just felt like it needed mentioning.

Sol Ruca rode a wave of massive success to become the new women’s intercontinental champion on Sunday at Clash in Italy as she defeated Becky Lynch.
It was a rematch from their brief bout at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Lynch had pushed referee Jessica Carr in front of her as Ruca nailed a Sol Snatcher. Carr called for a disqualification on Lynch, giving Ruca the win. But it didn’t do what either of them had hoped. Ruca didn’t prove herself enough in “The Man’s” eyes while Lynch was hoping to move on from the rising star.

SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis booked a rematch with the Women’s Intercontinental Championship on the line. Ruca stepped up and delivered in a big way.
Lynch tried to get inside Ruca’s head as much as she could. The trash talking, pushing Carr into the ropes to knock Ruca down and even attempting a Sol Snatcher herself were not enough to slow down Ruca.

As the match came to an end, Ruca hit a Sol Snatcher out of nowhere to crush Lynch and end her reign as the women’s intercontinental champion.

It was the first major win for Ruca since she joined the main roster. She defeated Bayley on Saturday Night’s Main Event back in December when John Cena specifically chose her to be on the card. She’s been one of the top prospects on NXT and has now made a major impact on the WWE roster.

England came out as 3-2 winners over World XI in Soccer Aid 2026, with Wayne Rooney, Angry Ginge, Jermain Defoe and Nabhaan Rizwan among the standout performers.
Defoe was on the scoresheet twice, as he became the leading scorer in the event’s history.
Both teams had the chance to take the lead in the first half, forcing saves from former professional goalkeepers Joe Hart and Edwin Van der Sar. But it was actor Damson Idris who gave England the lead before half-time.
Replays showed that he may have been in an offside position when the ball was played, but he made no mistake by lifting the ball above the goalkeeper and into the side netting. With no VAR in place, the goal stood.
Things usually get more interesting going into the second half, with celebrities replacing professionals in goal. For England, it was Joe Marler in the sticks, with Chris O’Dowd for World XI.
It was O’Dowd who was beaten first, when Jermain Defoe lifted the ball over him and into the back of the net to make it 2-0 to England. It was the same outcome just a minute or so later, with Defoe making it 3-0.
Michael Essien reduced the deficit with what was his final touch of the ball with a great goal into the bottom corner. Tim Cahill made it a nervy end for England, making it 3-2 with a good header.

But, England were able to see it out to take their second title in three years.

Roman Reigns has been called the “Head of the Table” for a reason.
He was an undisputed WWE champion for years and leader of The Bloodline before he made his way back to the top of the company at WrestleMania 42, defeating CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Since the win, Jacob Fatu has been the biggest thorn in his side. Fatu made clear he wanted everything that Reigns had. Reigns’ win over Fatu at Backlash earlier this month wasn’t enough. He challenged Reigns to Tribal Combat at Clash in Italy – a match meant to put Reigns’ title of “Tribal Chief” on the line.

Reigns had already dispatched challengers to his place in his family when it came to Tribal Combat. Jey Uso and Solo Sikoa both tried and failed over the years. Reigns was trying to make sure that Fatu would never challenge him again in an effort to “domesticate” him. One of the strategies was to eliminate Fatu’s use of the Tongan Death Grip – a move that Fatu has pulled out over and over again.
Reigns used a toolbox to crush Fatu’s hand and, for a moment, keep the use of the Tongan Death Grip at bay. It would take way more than that to keep Fatu down. Reigns knew he needed to dig deep. He speared Fatu through a barricade, trampling security members in the process.

He walked around the ring yelling that he didn’t need anyone’s help as he took off the turnbuckles. Fatu tried to hit another Tongan Death Grip but couldn’t synch it in. Reigns countered with a Superman Punch, but Fatu ate all of them. Reigns tried for a spear, but Fatu hit it on Reigns first.
Fatu hit a pop-up Samona Drop and then a moonsault. Still, he couldn’t pin Reigns. On the second pin attempt, Reigns hit a low blow on Fatu. The two men, leaving it all on the line, were gassed in the middle of the ring.
Reigns got up and smashed Fatu’s head on the exposed turnbuckle. Fatu was dazed and Reigns speared him through the table. Fatu got back up and Reigns hit one more spear. It was the last one he needed.
Livingston striker Tete Yengi and former Italy Under-21 winger Cristian Volpato have been named in Australia’s 26-man squad for the World Cup despite the uncapped duo being late additions to Tony Popovic’s pre-tournament training squad.
But 41-times capped Hibernian forward Martin Boyle is one of those who misses out.
Yengi had been loaned out by Livingston to Japanese club Machida Zelvia in January despite his parent club struggling to avoid relegation from the Scottish Premiership.
But the 25-year-old caught Popovic’s eye after scoring six goals in 22 appearances as his new side finished third in Japan’s East Region – and reached the final of the Asian Champions League.
Former Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Mat Ryan, now of Levante, and Melbourne City striker Mathew Leckie are poised to equal the national record by being selected for a fourth World Cup.
Former Dundee United left-back Aziz Behich, now of Melbourne, and former Hull City midfielder Jackson Irvine, now at St Pauli are on track to feature at their third.
Meanwhile, Heart of Midlothian midfielder Cammy Devlin and Aberdeen-born Leicester City centre-half Harry Souttar, whose brother John is in the Scotland squad, are among those chosen for their second.

After promising during the exchange that he would knock out Foster, Stevenson has since taken to social media as the rivalry continues to intensify.

Stevenson is a good friend of Ford, who suffered the defeat to Foster, so he appears keen to try and avenge that loss for his fellow New Jersey native, but it remains unknown which weight class the potential fight would be contested in.
For his part, Foster said he would move to 140 to make it happen, but 135 would be a much more level playing field and a weight Stevenson should not struggle to make.
Former unified featherweight world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa suffered defeat in his comeback bout, dropping a decision to Ecuador’s Alexander Espinoza in Fort Lauderdale.
The 44-year-old Olympic gold medallist was fighting for the first time since his 2022 stoppage loss to Isaac Cruz and had previously shared the ring with elite names including Terence Crawford, Devin Haney and Gervonta Davis during a professional career that didn’t quite reach the levels his amateur success signalled it might.
This weekend, Gamboa touched the canvas once and ultimately lost a split decision to Espinoza, who now holds a record of 21-5-1.
Elsewhere on the card, fellow Cuban great Guillermo Rigondeaux returned to winning ways with a points victory over Chilean veteran Jose Velasquez. The two-time Olympic gold medallist controlled much of the eight-round contest as he continued his career resurgence at 45 years old.
The victory was Rigondeaux’s third since 2023, following a distinguished career including a famous win over Nonito Donaire and high-profile defeats against the likes of Vasiliy Lomachenko and John Riel Casimero.
