Early BBC Weather forecast for Christmas Day in York
Forecasters currently think York is more likely to see a bright Christmas than a white one.
The BBC forecast predicts long sunny periods on December 25 in the city, with temperatures reaching a maximum of 8C and a gentle breeze.
It’s not looking much better for Santa if he’s hoping for a soft landing on snowy York rooftops on Christmas Eve, with forecasters predicting light rain and a minimum of 5C on the evening of December 24.
But they do admit to some uncertainty about the weather in the last week of December and the beginning of January, saying there is more chance of frosty nights developing – and they say there is a risk of colder weather still in the New Year.
Up until Christmas, the forecasters are confident York is in for more rainy and windy weather, but also mild.
The last time York had a truly white Christmas was in 2010 after a very snowy and cold December.
