Israel and Hamas Gaza ceasefire deal announced by Qatar

A ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas has been announced by Qatar Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim bin Jabr Al Thani .

Israel and Hamas have held on-off indirect talks for a ceasefire and hostage-prisoner exchange since the first ceasefire ended on 1 December 2023.

Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, killing about 1,200 people and taking 251 back to Gaza as hostages.

The attack triggered a massive Israeli offensive on Gaza, during which at least 46,000 Palestinians have been killed, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
