Ryan Garcia names the man to beat Shakur Stevenson: “I’m siding with him”
Ryan Garcia has named the fighter that he believes can put an end to Shakur Stevenson’s 25-fight undefeated record.
Stevenson stepped up in weight to dominate Teofimo Lopez and claim the WBO super-lightweight title back in January, fully intending on returning to his natural lightweight division during the aftermath, until those plans were derailed when he was stripped of his 135lb title.
As a result, Stevenson has kept hold of his 140lb marble but has not fought since, despite links to a showdown with Garcia in spring, which collapsed when the Newark southpaw declared that he would not be willing to move up in weight once again.
Now, Garcia is scheduled to face Conor Benn next month, whilst Stevenson has recently signed with Zuffa Boxing and is searching for an opponent for his second outing of 2026.
Speaking to FightHype, Garcia revealed that he would favour IBF lightweight world champion Raymond Muratalla to come out on top if he and Stevenson collide.
“That would be a good a** fight. He [Muratalla] is smart, he is not going to just go in there and just [be reckless].
“I just think that Raymond has a lot of things that would give Shakur problems. It won’t be an easy fight for Shakur, that is for sure.
“[If it was] a three-round fight, I would give it to Shakur, even a six-round fight. A 12-round fight? I am siding with Muratalla.”
Muratalla is set to vacate his IBF crown and move into the super-lightweight division imminently, with the WBO having recently stated that he could be named as Stevenson’s mandatory challenger when he does.

Over 140 Olympic-class sailors from 46 nations will compete on Dublin Bay when the ILCA 7 Men’s World Championship comes to Dún Laoghaire from 23–30 August.
This will be the first time since 2001 that Ireland will host a World Championship for an Olympic sailing class.
The event will be hosted jointly by the Royal St George Yacht Club and the National Yacht Club. The Championship will bring the world’s leading ILCA 7 sailors (athletes who compete in the men’s single-handed dinghy at the Olympic Games) to Irish waters.
Irish Sailors
Ireland will be represented by Olympian Finn Lynch (National Yacht Club), Ewan McMahon (Howth Yacht Club), Fiachra McDonnell (Royal Irish Yacht Club), Tom Coulter (East Antrim Boat Club), Bobby Driscoll (Ballyholme Yacht Club) and Roger Craig (Royal St George Yacht Club).

Training camps
Several international teams have already held training camps in Dún Laoghaire. June’s Coaches Invitational Regatta provided an early opportunity for competitors to test the venue with Britain’s Elliot Hanson taking the ILCA 7 title, with Finn Lynch finishing level on points for third place. Ireland’s Eve McMahon won the women’s ILCA 6 event.
Six days of competition
The event, which promises six days of world-class competition, will be a significant milestone for Irish sailing as the sport builds towards LA 2028. Racing begins Tuesday next, 25 August.
The event will be followed by the Women’s ILCA 6 World Championship which takes place on Dublin Bay 5 – 12 September 2026.

Essendon Bombers vs Port Adelaide Power Odds
Essendon Bombers vs Port Adelaide Power Preview
Essendon must respond after a slow start contributed to a 112-76 loss to Sydney. Vigo Visentini showed promise with 19 disposals, nine marks and a goal, while Will Setterfield gathered 32 touches and remained involved in the Bombers’ better passages. Port Adelaide was also comprehensively beaten, falling 132-56 to Melbourne, and now faces uncertainty around Zak Butters while Aliir Aliir is unavailable after concussion. Port dominated the Round 2 meeting 133-70, but neither side arrives with much momentum. Essendon’s young group has an opportunity to finish the season positively at Marvel Stadium, although its long run of poor results in Victoria remains a concern. Port’s greater midfield experience and Mitch Georgiades’ presence inside 50 should be enough to steady the visitors in a scrappy contest.

Shubman Gill’s eye for talent: How a Mohali youngster’s life changed after one net session | Cricket News
NEW DELHI: For Kirandeep Singh, the moment Shubman Gill noticed him was more than just another net session. It was the moment a youngster from Cholta Kalan, a village in Punjab’s Mohali district, began to believe that his cricketing dream could become a reality.Kirandeep was playing tennis-ball cricket when he first came to Gill’s attention in 2025. He had gone for practice in Mohali when he was told that Gill was around. Later, the two crossed paths at the Mullanpur International Cricket Stadium, where Kirandeep got the opportunity to bowl to the India star for the first time.Gill did not take long to spot something in the youngster.“He said, ‘You are bowling really well.’ I told him that I was playing tennis-ball cricket,” Kirandeep recalled.Gill’s response changed the direction of Kirandeep’s cricketing journey.“He then said, ‘You shouldn’t play tennis-ball cricket anymore. From now on, you have to play with a leather ball.’ He told me to stop playing tennis-ball cricket and said, ‘If you ever need anything, just let us know.’”That encouragement stayed with Kirandeep as he worked towards making the switch to leather-ball cricket and chasing a professional career. Now, the 20-year-old has another chance to turn that advice into a breakthrough. Fazilka Falcons bought him for Rs 20,000 in the Sher-e-Punjab T20 auction, giving the youngster an opportunity to play in the same team as Gill, who will captain the side. For Kirandeep, the journey from the government school ground in Cholta Kalan to the Sher-e-Punjab T20 is already a story of opportunity. The next chapter will be about proving that Gill’s eye for talent was right. The tournament is set to begin on August 30.

Vikings Open the Preseason with a Win over the G-Men
Vikings Territory Breakdown
Stop the presses: The Vikings beat the New York Giants in the preseason opener last Saturday. On second thought, keep those presses rolling. The game’s outcome is not the headline we need to focus upon. In the preseason, it’s not whether you won or lost (sorry Denny Green and Vince Lombardi), it’s how you played the game, and this one was a typical first preseason game that include little scoring (13-10), some exciting plays (e.g., Myles Price’s one-handed grab for a score) and plenty of performances to dissect. So, dissect them we will.
The starters only played one series, so there wasn’t a whole lot to write home about. But since Kyler Murray competed a couple passes, had command of the offense and led the team to a field goal (and did not performa as though head coach Kevin O’Connell made a bad decision when he named him this year’s starting QB), we don’t have to spend too much time or handwringing on his performance. The other three quarterbacks, J.J McCarthy, Carson Wentz and Max Brosmer require a bit more scrutiny.
There were also some decent play from Vikings rookies in their first game in purple, including by running back Demond Claiborne, safety Jacob Thomas and linebacker Jake Golday. Plus there were some rookie performances that were less than stellar, specifically defensive tackle Caleb Banks and offensive tackle Caleb Tiernan.
Good, bad or ugly (hey, it was the first preseason game) the fellas at the Vikings Territory Breakdown podcast—Joe Oberle, senior writer at vikingsterritory.com and purplePTSD.com, and Mark Craig, NFL and Vikings writer for the Star Tribune and startribune.com—are here to talk about it. Tune in and check it out. Skol!

White Sox pursue long-delayed sweep of Braves
Jun 10, 2026; Chicago, Illinois, USA; Chicago White Sox right fielder Branden Montgomery (24) doubles against the Atlanta Braves during the eight inning at Rate Field. Mandatory Credit: Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images A sweep is a sweep, even if there’s a 10-week lull before it’s settled.
On Thursday afternoon, the Chicago White Sox will look to confirm that notion when they host the Atlanta Braves in a makeup game between division leaders.
This originally was a scheduled day off for both clubs.
American League Central-best Chicago earned consecutive one-run victories against Atlanta, tops in the National League East, on June 9-10. The series finale, initially scheduled for June 11, was postponed due to inclement weather.
The White Sox will return to Rate Field for a seven-game homestand after salvaging a game from the crosstown rival Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.
The 3-0 victory on Wednesday that capped the three-game series followed successive walk-off White Sox defeats on Monday and Tuesday. While the results weren’t what the Sox wanted, a youthful core relished a frenzied atmosphere.
“It’s awesome. I mean, seeing the city show up the way they did for both sides,” said White Sox rookie right fielder Braden Montgomery, who drove in two runs on Wednesday. “I love great competition, and these past few days have been great baseball.”
Atlanta returns to Chicago with losses in eight of its past 12 games, including the first three on a seven-game road trip.
The Minnesota Twins, who trail the White Sox by four games in the division, outscored the Braves 14-7 during a three-game sweep this week.
Ozzie Albies doubled in the eighth inning for Atlanta’s lone extra-base hit in Wednesday’s 6-4 loss. He had a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the sixth. Ronald Acuna Jr. and Lane Thomas each added a hit and an RBI.
Braves manager Walt Weiss said the team improved its approach at the plate on Wednesday but still could be better. One ongoing area of emphasis for Atlanta hitters is assessing when to use ABS challenges.
“Look, I mean it’s been a running debate; I just think it’s tougher than it looks, you know,” Weiss said. “It’s in the heat of the moment, and it has to be a split-second decision. You’re trying to weigh the risk and the reward in the moment. It’s just a lot to think about. “After the fact, you’d like to have some of those calls overturned, but I don’t think it’s quite as easy as it looks.”
Chicago will get a second crack at Braves right-hander Grant Holmes (7-5, 3.82 ERA), who scattered three runs and four hits in 3 2/3 innings during a no-decision on June 9 in his only career appearance against the White Sox.
Miguel Vargas reached Holmes for a two-run home run in the third inning of that game. More recently, Vargas batted .417 (10-for-24) with three home runs and four RBIs during the team’s 4-2 road trip against the Detroit Tigers and Cubs.
Holmes delivered six shutout innings in consecutive quality starts to begin August before struggling during a 10-3 home loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks last Saturday. He allowed six runs and six hits in 3 2/3 innings with three walks and three strikeouts. Left-hander Anthony Kay (9-5, 4.01 ERA) will start for Chicago on Thursday. He is 2-0 with a 2.55 ERA this month in three starts covering 17 2/3 innings. Kay is coming off Saturday’s no-decision at Detroit, when he spaced three runs, six hits, one walk and four strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Chicago won 4-3.
Kay made one career appearance against the Braves as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays, on Aug. 4, 2020. He threw two scoreless innings.
Meanwhile, White Sox manager Will Venable credited Jose Urquidy’s six shutout innings of bulk relief Wednesday for helping the relief corps reload for Thursday and beyond.
“It’s huge,” Venable said. “We turn around (Thursday). We’ve got another tough task, obviously, with the Braves.” –Field Level Media

Rosebud result provides a positive outlook for Screen Icon in 2026 Silver Shadow Stakes
John Thompson, despite not having a runner in the Rosebud, has found the result of the three-year-old feature race to be a significant confidence booster ahead of Screen Icon’s return in the Silver Shadow Stakes at Randwick.
Chilly Girl, the winner of the Rosebud, finished half a length ahead of Screen Icon in a barrier trial on August 7, a trial that was also won by the Group 1 performer Apocalyptic.
With a field of 11 runners in the Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m), where eight are making their first start since their juvenile season, Thompson is hopeful that the trial form will serve as a strong indication for Screen Icon.
“Her first trial was good, and her second trial in a strong heat was franked by Chilly Girl coming out and winning well on Saturday,” Thompson revealed. “They finished alongside each other and that was my filly’s first time away from Randwick. She got a little bit lost, but she still trialled well.”
Screen Icon, who was placed in the Gimcrack and Sweet Embrace Stakes at two, was an emergency for the Golden Slipper but did not secure a start.
Thompson opted to keep her in work for the Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) a fortnight later, but she had reached the end of her preparation before the race, crossing the line in sixth.
“I tried to get something after missing a run in the Slipper, but that extra couple of weeks was about five days too long,” Thompson explained.
Chad Schofield, who has partnered the Nicconi filly – sire of champion sprinter Nature Strip – in all four of her previous starts, will again be in the saddle from barrier nine at Randwick. Thompson is content to leave the race tactics to Schofield.
“He knows her well. She has been beginning well and putting herself there in her trials, so I’ll leave it up to him,” Thompson stated. “It’s a pretty even lot (of fillies). It’s just a matter of which one has taken a step up from last ‘prep’ to this. Her trials have indicated she’s going great, and in her work at home she’s been going well.”
Stablemate Melanite is anticipated to be scratched from the Midway Handicap (1200m) due to drawing the outside gate. However, Clear Proof is slated to take his place as he seeks to continue his recent form improvement.
Having secured a placing in the 2024 Listed Rosebud (1100m), the son of Justify had lost his way but has since demonstrated consistent performances as a gelding and is a last-start winner at Canterbury.
“He’s always had ability. He was just left a colt too long,” Thompson commented. “But he’s come good, and he’s a lot more genuine.”

Sydney Swans vs North Melbourne Kangaroos Preview
Sydney secured second place with a 112-76 win over Essendon, but its finals preparation has been disrupted by season-long club suspensions for Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner, Nick Blakey, Riley Bice and James Jordon. Justin McInerney has also suffered another hamstring setback. North Melbourne lost 125-110 to Geelong after testing the Cats early, with captain Nick Larkey returning to form through five goals. Harry Sheezel will miss this match because of a cheekbone injury, while Luke McDonald is available for selection. Sydney won the Round 9 meeting 105-97 and has beaten North in 11 consecutive encounters, yet the scale of its absences makes this rematch far less predictable. North’s more settled available group has a genuine opportunity to end the season with a notable SCG victory.

East Bengal script history, break 40-year-old record to register Indian football’s biggest-ever win in Asian competition | Football News
NEW DELHI: East Bengal FC scripted a new chapter in Indian football history on Thursday, producing a staggering 12-0 victory over Rovers FC of Guam in the AFC Women’s Champions League 2026-27 preliminary stage. The Moshal Girls’ emphatic triumph is now the biggest-ever victory by an Indian club in an Asian competition, surpassing East Bengal’s own men’s record of a 9-0 win over Club Valencia of the Maldives in the 1985-86 Asian Club Championship. The result was East Bengal’s second successive win in the preliminary stage and puts the Indian Women’s League champions one victory away from reaching the group stage. They will face Malaysia’s Sabah FA on Sunday, with a place in the next phase at stake.
East Bengal run riot after early breakthrough
East Bengal wasted little time asserting their dominance. Priyangka Devi Naorem opened the scoring in the sixth minute when her effort from outside the box struck the left post before finding the net.Rovers goalkeeper Jae Almonte then spilled Anju Chanu Kayenpaibam’s effort in the 15th minute, allowing Astam Oraon to react quickly and score from the rebound.Priyangka doubled her tally seven minutes later, breaking into the box before calmly lifting the ball over the advancing Almonte to give East Bengal a commanding 3-0 lead. The IWL champions showed no signs of easing off after the interval. Sulanjana Raul’s 48th-minute cross took a deflection and fell kindly for Olivia Anokye, who finished from close range.A minute later, Soumya Guguloth delivered a pinpoint cross for Abigail Antwi, who headed home East Bengal’s fifth.
Goals keep coming as record is shattered
The floodgates remained open. Almonte parried Shilky Devi Hemam’s curling effort in the 51st minute, but Sulanjana was quickest to the rebound and made it 6-0.Shilky then got her own name on the scoresheet five minutes later, curling another effort from just outside the box into the top-left corner.Olivia scored her second in the 58th minute with a low finish from inside the box, before Abena Opoku added another six minutes later with a powerful strike.East Bengal continued their relentless assault deep into the closing stages, with Abena scoring again in the 70th minute and Anju finding the net three minutes later.Soumya completed the rout in stoppage time at 90+3, taking East Bengal’s tally to 12 and confirming the biggest victory ever recorded by an Indian club in Asian competition. After a 4-0 victory over Rajshahi Stars FC of Bangladesh in their opening match, East Bengal now need one more win against Sabah FA to turn their historic start into a place in the AFC Women’s Champions League group stage.
