Rumesh Pathirage raises bar again, Neeraj Chopra braces for another test

NEW DELHI: Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage’s sensational season has entered another gear, and for India’s Olympic and world champion Neeraj Chopra, the road to the Diamond League Final and Asian Games now comes with an unmistakable warning. The Sri Lankan javelin star produced a breathtaking 92.07m in Zurich on Thursday to underline why he has become the man to beat this season. It was his second throw beyond 92m in 2026, following his world-leading 92.62m national record in Rome in June. The Zurich effort also pushed Pathirage into rare company. He is only the fourth javelin thrower in history to cross the 92m mark twice, joining legendary names such as Jan Zelezny, Johannes Vetter and Aki Parviainen.Pathirage had to work his way into the competition in Zurich. He opened with 81.50m, improved to 88.23m in the second round and reached 89.90m in the third. After 84.91m in the fourth round and a foul in the fifth, he delivered the knockout blow in the last throw.Former world champion Anderson Peters came second with a season-best 86.93m, while Poland’s Dawid Wegner took third with a personal-best 85.16m.The victory was another chapter in Pathirage’s extraordinary 2026 campaign. The 23-year-old has now won 11 of his 12 competitions this year, including his last six. After his Rome explosion, he won in Ostrava and at the Doha Diamond League before creating history in Glasgow as Sri Lanka’s first Commonwealth Games javelin champion. He then edged out Chopra at the Lausanne Diamond League, winning with 88.14m, just nine centimetres better than the Indian’s 88.05m. That was Chopra’s best effort of the season.Chopra, a two-time Olympic medallist, skipped Zurich but still qualified for the Diamond League Final in Brussels as the sixth-ranked thrower. The season-ending showdown on Sept 4-5 now presents another major Pathirage-Chopra clash. And this is a rivalry that could carry even greater weight soon. After Brussels, both stars are set to have the Asian Games on their radar. For Chopra, the challenge is clear: Pathirage is no longer merely a rising contender. With consistency, distance and an extraordinary winning streak behind him, the Sri Lankan has transformed himself into the benchmark.Zurich only strengthened that message and the pressure, increasingly, is on Chopra. Pathirage’s emergence has changed the javelin throw landscape, making every meeting with the Indian a potential season-defining contest ahead for both.

The Vikings roster is a living, breathing organism. As a result, we’re considering a dynamic being that’s going to be undergoing change.

In fact, we’re on the eve of major change. The NFL’s deadline for teams to drop from 90-man offseason rosters to the 53-man maximum is tomorrow evening. Since the news is arriving quick, keep swinging by VT’s tracker to ensure you don’t miss any updates.

Vikings Roster Tracker Ahead of NFL’s August 30th Deadline

Quick Updates to Begin: Goodbye, Nudie

At least some notable news has already emerged. Perhaps the best-known players to have been shown the door so far has been the decision to say goodbye to DT Taki Taimani and CB Dwight McGlothern.

Expect Lots of J.J. McCarthy Chatter

Kevin O’Connell sounded reasonably optimistic about where the kid’s health is following that Broncos disaster. Going into the game, O’Connell’s desire was to see J.J. McCarthy play a full half but health prevented such an outcome.

Presumably, GM Nolan Teasley is working the phones to see about any trade possibilities that make sense. Offloading McCarthy would be about turning the page, recouping some modest cap space, and adding a Day 3 selection. Is that going to be enough?

Positive Outcome for Jacob Thomas Injury

Alec Lewis of The Athletic sends the nice update: “Vikings UDFA safety Jacob Thomas has a Grade 1 ankle sprain, a source tells The Athletic. Considered very positive news after Friday’s injury. Thomas has had an exceptional training camp and has been in line to make the 53-man roster.”

Nobody wants to see an injury arrive. When they inevitably do occur, the injuries can hopefully be minor. Look for Thomas to be kept as he works toward fulfilling so much offseason promise.

Vikings Go from 91 to 90 Players by Cutting a Corner

Corner Tre Hawkins III has been shown the door, per Aaron Wilson of KPRC2. He got added to Minnesota’s roster late in the offseason and never appeared to be a contender to get onto the final team. Look for four or five corners to be kept on the 53.

Rookie Large Lad Cut

At first, the Vikings signing C Delby Lemieux inspired some optimism. However, the rookie failed to distinguish himself through the offseason.

Chris Tomasson shared the news: “#Vikings have waived OL Delby Lemieux, who played 31 snaps last night vs. #Broncos.”

Dolphins cheerleader Kylie Beck makes feelings known on facing brother Carson’s Cardinals in 2026 NFL season

Published

on

Carson Beck’s sister, Kylie, joined the Miami Dolphins in June as a cheerleader, and almost a month later, the quarterback signed a four-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals. Even though the two began their NFL journeys around the same time, their teams won’t have a faceoff this season unless it’s the playoffs or the Super Bowl.

However, the idea of facing her brother in the 2026 NFL season felt like an exciting dream to Kylie. On Friday, “The 305Club” podcast shared a joint Instagram post with the cheerleader. It included a segment from her podcast appearance on Aug. 19.

When host Gabriella asked, “What’s going to happen when it’s Miami Dolphins versus the Cardinals?” Kylie replied:

“We don’t play each other this year unless we were in the playoffs and we played each other. But hopefully in the future we do. I’m excited to see when we play. It would be such a good thrill.

“Yeah, my mom would be so happy at that moment. One day, the Super Bowl. Let’s manifest that right.”

Kylie announced her new journey with the Dolphins with a wholesome Instagram tribute on June 21. The influencer shared photos in her cheerleading uniform alongside her team members. In addition, her post included a brief note thanking her family and friends for supporting her throughout her journey.

“Thank you for constantly believing in me and uplifting me at all times! You have all contributed to my success by being someone I can lean on with every text or phone call!! Life is never dull when you’re surrounded by people who fill your cup to the point that it overflows!!!” she wrote in the caption.

Kylie Beck recalls bond with Carson Beck growing up

In a segment of “The 305Club” podcast, host Gabriella asked Kylie Beck about her bond with her brother, Carson Beck, growing up. The influencer shared that she and the Cardinals quarterback have always been close. However, there was also a time when their bond wasn’t as great as it is currently.

“So, we grew up very close. We’ve always been like, I’d say kind of tied at the hip. Like, we’re always in each other’s corner and supporting each other in our own endeavors,” Kylie said [Timestamp: 5:32].

“But when we were growing up, we were always somewhere traveling, so we weren’t always together.”

Carson Beck recently hinted at going through “ebbs and flows” in the preseason, and his sister Kylie cheered him up with an encouraging four-word message.
