Dolly Parton’s Risqué SAG Awards Joke Resurfaces
Dolly Parton has once again endeared herself to internet users with her signature wit in a resurfaced clip.
In the video, the “9 to 5” singer joked about avoiding the SAG Awards while presenting an honor to Lily Tomlin, saying she would not hesitate to undergo a procedure if she noticed anything “sagging.”
Parton died on August 25 at the age of 80 following a private battle with cancer.
Dolly Parton brought the jokes in an unearthed clip making the rounds online.
The “Jolene” singer was tapped to present the Life Achievement Award to Lily Tomlin at the 2017 SAG Awards. However, after taking the stage, she made a funny remark that left the star-studded crowd giggling.
“Greetings from Dollywood, Hollywood. I almost didn’t get in. Seriously, I didn’t. They were holding me backstage, kept wanting to see my I.D.’s,” she began, per E! News. “Well, I think they wanted to see I.D.’s, maybe double D’s.”
She added, “Well, I’m glad to get that off my chest.”
Dolly Parton Joked About Avoiding The SAG Awards

According to the news outlet, Parton was supposed to present alongside her close friend Jane Fonda, but the latter was sick at the time.
However, Parton managed just fine, leaving everyone laughing with her self-deprecating humor as she joked about spending much of her life trying to avoid the SAG Awards.
She cheekily noted that if she saw anything “sagging” on her, she would immediately call her doctor to fix it, nodding to cosmetic procedures.
“I’m really so glad to be here tonight because this is the SAG Awards, the highest honor you can get. It’s going to be given to my 9-to-5 buddy, Miss Lily Tomlin,” she continued. “I might say Lily is getting an award for something I’ve spent my whole life trying to avoid: a SAG award. I see something sagging, I’m calling Dr. Markowitz to say get that nipped, tucked, and stuffed right away.”
Fans Remember Dolly Parton’s Warmth And Humor

Several fans couldn’t contain their laughter, with many taking to social media to remember Parton for her relatable, easygoing personality.
“Dolly was the most amazing human,” a Reddit user wrote, while another added, “What an icon!! She spread so much warmth and love and joy!”
Someone else wrote, “I’m so happy she’s at rest, but I miss her so damn much already. I don’t even believe in heaven, but I hope she’s there with Carl.”
“An honest woman! Love it! Own your choices, ladies. Nothing wrong with any of them,” a different commenter added.
Dolly Parton Did Not Want Fans To Worry

Parton died in Nashville last month after privately battling cancer. At the time, reports were rife that her health had declined in the months following the death of her longtime husband, Carl Dean, whom she had cared for during his own health challenges.
News of her death left many fans shocked, as they had been completely unaware of her health struggles. However, her sister Stella revealed during a recent appearance on CBS Mornings that Parton chose to keep her condition private because she did not want anyone to worry about her.
“She did not want people sad,” Stella told the program’s co-host Gayle King in an exclusive interview. “She’d be really happy and delighted that people have shown her so much love.”
Stella Parton Condemns AI ‘Garbage’ About Her Sister

Stella added that even some members of their extended family never learned about the late country singer’s condition, saying only “some of us knew, the ones of us that were closer.”
“Dolly could not bear negative things,” she continued. “And she would not have wanted her fans worried about it.”
Meanwhile, Stella recently took to social media to call out the barrage of AI slop about her late older sister that has flooded the internet since her death.
“There is a tremendous amount of AI and endless garbage being posted every day, and it’s been challenging to absorb and/or ignore,” she wrote.
She noted that some people were taking advantage of the situation and spreading misinformation online. Stella called on them to stop and show “more compassion and wisdom” as the late singer’s family continues to mourn.

Kaitlin Olson Pokes Fun At Herself After Latest Emmy Loss
Kaitlin Olson isn’t afraid to laugh at herself, even on Emmy night.
After attending the 78th Emmy Awards on September 6, 2026, the “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star took to Instagram with a self-deprecating jab, dubbing herself a “four-time Emmy loser” in her caption.
The post also included sweet photos with her husband, Rob McElhenney, and quickly drew loving pushback from fans.
Taking to Instagram after the Emmys, Olson reminded fans she still hadn’t found success at the awards show.
She wrote in her post, “The hair, makeup and wardrobe of a four-time Emmy loser,” before tagging her glam and styling team for the night.
Her remark contained some truth, as Olson has received four career Emmy nominations without a win. The post has since garnered over 100,000 likes and nearly a thousand comments from her loving fans.
Fans Declare Kaitlin Olson A Winner After Emmy Loss

In the comments, fans encouraged the actress with compliments about her look and her husband, Rob McElhenney, who joined her for the awards ceremony.
“You win across my board, K. You look stunning, and Orville Mackenbocker’s never looked spiffier,” one wrote.
“Y’all are 18-time Emmy winners in our books,” another individual commented, while a third said, “She’s our winner.”
“If it makes you feel better, my roommate and I stayed up on the EST time zone and waited for your category. You’re the winner in our hearts,” another individual shared.
“4-time Emmy winner in my heart! Thank you for giving life to the beautiful character that DJ is; you’re extraordinary,” one more wrote.
Makeup artist Krueger Mekash also joined the comments, writing, “I lost 28 Times before I won. You looked beautiful last night! Winning is right around the corner.”
Inside Kaitlin Olson’s Four Emmy Losses

Olson’s first nod came in 2020, when she was nominated for Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series for her role in “Flipped.” She ultimately lost the award to Jasmine Cephas Jones, who won for her performance in “#FreeRayshawn.”
Her next two nominations came for her guest performance as DJ Vance on “Hacks” in 2022 and 2024. She lost the 2022 award to Laurie Metcalf and the 2024 award to Jamie Lee Curtis.
“Widow’s Bay” star Betty Gilpin then beat Olson this year, with the actress once again nominated for her performance in “Hacks.”
Kaitlin Olson Filmed ‘Hacks’ As Her Father Was Dying

Meanwhile, Olson’s connection to “Hacks” goes far beyond her Emmy nominations.
Her father, Donald Lee Olson, became seriously ill during production on the fifth and final season of “Hacks.” He died on May 15, 2026, at age 76, following what Olson described as “a long, slow, miserable event.”
At the time, Olson was also filming “High Potential” for ABC and began shuttling between Los Angeles and Oregon while trying to keep up with both shows.
On her first day back on the “Hacks” set, she received a call saying her father had lost consciousness.
“I collapsed in the line producer’s arms. I said, ‘I have to go.’ And he said, ‘Go,’” Olson recalled at an HBO event in August while discussing the emotional moment.
Olson’s Father Saw One Final Hacks Episode

Despite everything going on at the time, Olson kept filming. She also did her best to encourage her father by regularly sending him videos from the “Hacks” set, as he was a huge fan of the show.
One particular episode became especially meaningful, as it turned out to be the last thing Olson made that he got to watch before his death.
The episode featured Olson’s DJ Vance and one of her co-stars racing through an “Amazing Race”-style challenge. Her father especially loved the scenes in which Olson screamed at people—a stark contrast to their real-life relationship.
“And he loved it,” Olson said of the episode. “It’s just always going to be very special to me, because he got to see it.”

Sarah Ferguson, Meghan Markle ‘Alliance’ Sparks Fan Reactions
Sarah Ferguson and Meghan Markle have found themselves at the center of fresh royal speculation, with some questioning what an alliance between the two women could mean for the monarchy.
The idea has sparked plenty of reaction online, with some royal watchers seemingly less than impressed by the prospect. One X user summed up their feelings bluntly, describing Ferguson and Markle as “two peas in a pod.”

According to the Examiner, Markle, 45, may find Ferguson, 66, as an unexpected ally, which got the royals bracing for the worst, a source revealed.
“This is not an alliance that anyone in the royal family wants to be dealing with,” the insider said, adding that Markle and Ferguson are believed to have spent time together in Portugal prior to Princess Eugenie giving birth to her daughter, Adelaide, in Lisbon last month.
In addition, Fergie has “suddenly rented a place and came back the same week that [Prince Harry] and Meghan did seems far too convenient to simply be a coincidence,” said the source, “so the royals are taking this very seriously.”
Fans React To A Possible Meghan Markle-Sarah Ferguson Alliance

The same user on X noted, “They sold their souls. Now they are both international clowns,” while another remarked, “I’m positive Andrew has information that MM would not want shared, along with receipts. Already announced today that Harry is working with someone with a questionable background. MM should watch her associations.”
A different person wrote, “Two of the worst scumbag women on the planet.”
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Eyes England’s Cotswolds Region

As reported by The Sun, the former Duchess of York is renting a six-bedroom residence in the UK’s Home Counties while Prince Harry, 41, and Markle, along with their kids, are rumored to have gone house-hunting in the Cotswolds ahead of their return to England.
“I was told by a friend of Harry‘s earlier this year that he was going to go house hunting and potentially in the Cotswolds near Highgrove,” royal commentator Tom Sykes told Page Six, referring to King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s Highgrove House residence.
Sarah Ferguson’s Complicated Relationship With The Royals

Much like Markle, Ferguson, who was Andrew Mountbatten Windsor’s ex-wife, has a complicated history with the monarchy. In May, reports revealed that she has been totally frozen out by King Charles III and the rest of the royal family over her ties to Jeffrey Epstein. Although, the former Duchess denied any wrongdoing and consistently maintains her innocence, even stating via a representative that she was “taken in” by Epstein’s “lies.”
“It’s no secret Sarah’s very angry and angling for some sort of payout from the king, so it’s hard to imagine she won’t be egging Meghan on and urging her to stand up for herself too,” the source noted. “Sarah has plenty of inside information about everyone in the family, so the fear is that she’s going to spill all to Meghan’s who will then have even more leverage.”
The insider added, “There’s really nothing to stop Sarah laying it all bare for Meghan now that she’s essentially been exiled, so it’s a total nightmare that these two are coming together,” the source adds. “It’s being seen as a real threat by everyone within the palace.”
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s New Titles

After a letter, which was written by Lord Chamberlain Richard Benyon at King Charles’ instruction, was sent to Prince Harry and Markle, it was circulated among senior government and military officials on September 7. The letter appeared to put an end to any confusion over the Duke and Duchess’ role within the royal family after their return to the UK, following their decision to step back from royal duties in 2020. The Sussexes would remain non-working members of the royal family but could no longer use their HRH styles, with the couple expected to live as private citizens.

Amanda Kloots Confirms Split From Justin Gimelstob
Amanda Kloots and Justin Gimelstob have called it quits after just over a year of dating.
Kloots, 44, confirmed in an interview with Page Six on Wednesday, September 9, that she is no longer seeing the former tennis player.
“No, not currently [together], but we’re still very good friends,” the former Talk cohost said.
Despite the split, Kloots told the outlet, “I believe in love. I definitely want that in my life.”
For now, however, the former professional dancer and fitness instructor is focusing on parenting her 7-year-old son, Elvis, whom she shares with her late husband, Nick Cordero. The Broadway actor died at age 41 in 2020 following COVID-19-related complications.
“Right now I’ve really just been focused on work and Elvis and myself and just making sure I’m the best version of me,” Kloots said. “It’s been very good and healing and rewarding, so that’s where I’m at right now.”
Kloots and Gimelstob, 49, first went public in April 2025 when they made their red carpet debut at a cancer awareness event at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.
“[Amanda’s] a special lady,” Gimelstob exclusively shared with Us at “An Unforgettable Evening,” benefiting the Women’s Cancer Research Fund, at the time. “I think it’s cliche, but just how she prioritizes her people and obviously all this and everything she’s been through — how much grace and kindness [and generosity] she shows.”
Gimelstob also acknowledged Kloots’ late husband, Cordero, adding, “They had such a beautiful relationship, and I only have admiration for the relationship they had. I just support [Amanda] and obviously the baby is such a sweet boy.”
Speaking exclusively to Us in 2021, Kloots opened up about navigating grief and being a single parent after Cordero’s death.
“A lot of people have said to me, ‘It gets easier [and] time helps,’ and I don’t know if I found that yet,” she told Us at the time. “I still pretty much cry every day. It’s growing pains.”
She added, “With Elvis, like there’s so many things that he does or there’s times in life that you just wish your person was there to celebrate with. And I think that that’s where it’s harder because you miss your person so much.”
At the time, Kloots said she was “doing everything I possibly can to stay healthy and active and happy. And you know, grief is a process … Everybody does it differently.”

Selena Gomez’s Wedding Secret Gets Benny Blanco Reveal
For Selena Gomez, the perfect wedding was never about lavish displays or following tradition. Nearly a year after the singer quietly married Benny Blanco, new details are emerging about the deeply personal vision that shaped their big day.
On his podcast, Blanco revealed that while the ceremony required enormous planning and attention to detail, Gomez was determined to avoid anything overly extravagant, focusing instead on a celebration that reflected her personality and a dream she had carried since childhood.
Blanco surprised guest Gwyneth Paltrow during a recent episode of “Friends Keep Secrets” when he casually revealed details about his marriage to Selena Gomez and the intimate ceremony they held in Santa Barbara on September 27, 2025.
According to Blanco, the couple transformed a rented palm tree farm into a wedding venue unlike anything guests expected. The producer explained that his wife had spent years imagining what her walk down the aisle would look like and knew exactly what she wanted when the moment finally arrived.
“She’s like, ‘I want to walk down the aisle and I want the aisle to be, like, Persian rugs off centered. I don’t want normal flowers. I don’t want it to feel bougie,’” Blanco recalled per PEOPLE.
Rather than embracing a traditional luxury wedding aesthetic, the couple focused on creating something personal and unconventional. The ceremony was officiated by Lil Dicky, who also co-hosts Blanco’s podcast.
Blanco said the event struck the balance Gomez had always envisioned. “So it was, like, incredible and you could tell we put so much effort into it, but also didn’t feel, like, stuffy,” he explained. Paltrow appeared impressed by the approach, responding simply, “I love that. That’s so cool.”
The wedding may have reflected Selena Gomez’s childhood dream, but Benny Blanco says the foundation of their marriage was actually built years earlier, inside a therapist’s office.
Blanco Reveals The Relationship Checklist That Unexpectedly Led Him To Gomez
Long before the duo became one of Hollywood’s most talked-about couples, Blanco was trying to figure out exactly what he wanted in a life partner.
During a September 3 appearance on “The Mel Robbins Podcast,” the 38-year-old revealed that he and his therapist created a detailed checklist of qualities he believed were essential in a healthy relationship.
According to Blanco, the very first requirement on the list was simple: “age-appropriate.” He explained that he wasn’t focused on appearance or superficial traits.
Instead, the record producer prioritized character, emotional maturity, and kindness. “Then the second thing on my list was, someone who’s nice. Nice, caring, compassionate, like someone who’s a nice person,” he added.
Blanco also noted that the third thing on the list was a partner who would wake up “generally happy.” What makes the story remarkable is that Gomez eventually matched the exact qualities he wrote down years earlier. Blanco noted that timing played a major role in their success.
Blanco Explains Why A Romance With Selena Gomez Would Have Failed Years Earlier
The more Blanco speaks about his relationship, the more he emphasizes one recurring theme: timing.
Although he and Gomez knew each other for more than a decade before dating, Blanco believes the relationship succeeded only because they had grown into different people.
Speaking about their journey, he explained that meeting earlier in life would have created very different circumstances.
The idea isn’t new to the couple. Gomez has shared similar thoughts before, explaining that years earlier she was dealing with personal challenges and wasn’t in the right emotional place for the kind of relationship she has now.
In a March 2025 appearance on the “On Purpose With Jay Shetty” podcast, Gomez reflected on their connection, admitting, “10 years ago, it’s not that I wouldn’t have wanted to be with you, I just wouldn’t have been in the right headspace.”
Blanco echoed that sentiment, saying they both needed time to mature and learn from past experiences before they could fully appreciate what they eventually found together.
Their years as friends and collaborators gave them a unique understanding of each other, but it wasn’t until 2023 that the timing finally aligned.
More From The Blast
Selena Gomez Drops Her Biggest Hint Yet About Starting A Family With Blanco

If Blanco’s checklist explains how the couple found each other, Gomez’s latest social media post may offer a glimpse into what they hope comes next.
As Page Six shared, the former Nickelodeon star recently sparked widespread discussion after sharing a photo of herself spending time with a baby on her Instagram story.
Alongside the image, Gomez posted a short but powerful caption that read, “one day..” followed by emotional emojis. The message immediately led fans to wonder whether she was hinting at future plans to start a family with Blanco.
The post resonated because Gomez has been unusually candid about her journey toward motherhood. In previous interviews, she revealed that medical complications connected to lupus and her kidney transplant make it unsafe for her to carry a child herself.
While the realization was initially painful, she later said she found peace with alternative paths to parenthood. Speaking about the possibility of surrogacy or adoption, Gomez told Vanity Fair in 2024, “It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”
Gomez Says Goodbye To Her Famous Los Angeles Home After Marrying Blanco

As family plans begin to attract attention, Selena Gomez has also been quietly closing the door on another chapter of her life.
On Wednesday, Architectural Digest reported that the “Good for You” singer sold her longtime Encino home for approximately $5.4 million after originally listing it earlier this year.
The property carried special significance because it served as the backdrop for several seasons of her popular cooking series “Selena + Chef.”
The sprawling estate featured six bedrooms, multiple entertainment spaces, a gym, massage room, office, recording areas, and the kitchen that became familiar to millions of viewers during the show’s run.
It also carried an impressive musical pedigree, having previously been owned by the late Tom Petty, who custom-built the property in 1989.
The sale follows Gomez and Blanco’s purchase of a much larger Beverly Hills estate worth about $35 million. The new property reportedly includes seven bedrooms, multiple guesthouses, a library, extensive gardens, and enough space for the newlyweds to build their future together.

Summer may not be over as yet, but we can totally understand wanting to stash away your dresses already. The thing is, just because we’re ditching loose maxis doesn’t mean we want to wear stiff jeans either. Thankfully, cool moms found the perfect fall alternative to both. It’s more elevated than a frock, and much comfier than denim.
This PrettyGarden Fall Jumpsuit has quietly become one of Amazon’s fashion darlings — and once you see it, the obsession makes sense. The rich brown shade reads polished without feeling stuffy, and the tummy-hiding ruching does the quiet, confidence-boosting work you didn’t know you needed from a neutral jumpsuit.
Get the PrettyGarden Fall Jumpsuit for $36 (was $41) on Amazon! Please note, prices are accurate at the date of publication but are subject to change.
In addition to its flattering details, we’re equally impressed with the round neckline and sleeveless cut, which make the chic jumpsuit ideal for both right now and the fall. The design makes it a layering dream, so you can style the one-piece with a cozy cardigan for the office, a cropped leather jacket for date night or worn solo with sandals for the last few days of heat.
Perhaps the best part about this Amazon find is the soft, stretchy fabric. The material is very comfy and flattering, so you can count on the jumpsuit moving with you, instead of pinching in all the wrong spots.
“I’ve gotten so many compliments every time I wear it,” wrote one happy shopper. “It’s incredibly soft, comfortable and so versatile. I can wear it to work, on a plane or just lounging around the house.”
Another Amazon reviewer said, “I wish I had one in every color! Very slimming and elongating.”
It’s hard to argue with results like that, especially at the incredible sale price. Leave your jeans in the back of your closet, and grab this stylish jumpsuit while it’s on sale.

The 10 Darkest Animated Movies of All Time, Ranked
Animated movies are usually associated with family-friendly entertainment aimed at kids because the use of color and creativity appeals to children with heartwarming stories. However, animation is a medium for all ages and can address many topics. As the movie industry grows, studios aim animated movies toward an older demographic, with titles such as the Spider-Verse movies.
However, some animated movies go beyond having an older demographic. They address themes that aren’t afraid to explore the darkest corners of life and the human psyche, even putting adults on edge. Animation also has a secret side that can get extremely dark, even if it doesn’t feature overly dark imagery. Whether it be the terrifying setting, plot, or messages, these movies are unafraid to address darker yet thought-provoking subjects.
10
‘Akira’ (1988)
Thirty-one years after the nuclear destruction of Tokyo, Kaneda goes on a journey to save his friend Tetsuo from a secret government program experimenting on him. Kaneda must face the government, the military, and the scientists responsible for the suffering they’re causing Tetsuo until his powers suddenly manifest, leading to a battle between them.
Akira tells a dark story set in a post-apocalyptic world, and while the setting isn’t familiar, the story could very well be. It shows the dark side of the government and its unknown and terrifying antics, which cause an unwitting young man to go through unspeakable pain. The dark story, paired with gruesome imagery, makes it an unsettling yet intriguing watch, contributing to its subsequent legacy. Indeed, Akira has become a cult classic and a prime example of the great heights Japanese anime can often achieve.
9
‘Bambi’ (1942)
There isn’t a soul on this Earth unfamiliar with Bambi, as the classic story of a young doe explores the horrors and wonders of the forest. The story follows Bambi as he experiences life with his mother’s and friends’ help until they are ready to go on a journey of love and terror as the looming threat of man is ever present.
While Bambi isn’t as dark as many other animated efforts, the sheer shock and disparity between darkness and age rating make it infamous. Families and kids went into the movie expecting a fun and wholesome movie about wildlife, but instead, they got a lifetime of trauma from the iconic scene of Bambi’s mother’s death and the continuous horrors man commits, such as burning the forest. Despite its surprisingly dark nature, Bambi is one of the best 1942 movies and a timeless classic that further strengthens Disney’s legacy.
8
‘Wizards’ (1977)
Wizards is a uniquely crafted animated movie that was Mark Hamill’s debut film just before his appearance as the titular Luke Skywalker in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. After his brother, Blackwolf, unjustly takes the throne from their mother, Avatar goes on a journey to end his brother’s tyrannical rule. The film features a creative world and a colorful cast of characters in this bizarre story.
Ralph Bakshi is known for creating dark and mature animated movies, and Wizards continues this trend. The mystical world might leave some believing it to be a family-friendly fantasy, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. With multiple character deaths, explicit imagery, use of actual war footage, and depictions of Nazis, Wizards is far more demanding than the average movie, animated or otherwise. The darkness is subtle and in-your-face, with shocking deaths and ruthless storytelling.
7
‘The Secret of NIMH’ (1982)
Known for his oddly dark children’s movies, director Don Bluth made his directorial debut with The Secret of NIMH. The film tackles the sensitive topic of animal testing and its inhumane nature, hoping to teach audiences the horrors that are actually happening. It follows a field mouse as she looks for a new place to move her family due to the extended reach of farmers. However, all she discovers are enhanced rats, which are the result of a testing facility not too far away.
The Secret of NIMH is another movie that is way darker than expected. Because of the age rating, the film doesn’t contain any specific imagery or scenes but has a disturbing tone and unsettling moments that would scare any child. It took a while before Bluth could get the film off the ground, but the wait was worth it. He eventually got it made, and it would become one of his best.

‘Coraline’ (2009)
Based on the book by Neil Gaiman, Coraline is another stop-motion masterpiece by director Henry Selick. After moving into a new home, Coraline finds a secret passage leading to another world very similar to hers. Everything seems much better here until her other family tries to force her to stay, and other terrifying secrets emerge.
Despite being PG, Coraline uses stop-motion animation to the fullest, enhancing the creepiness and delivering a horror movie for children. The film’s style is inherently creepy, and the events and the oddly dark villain’s motivations enhance its eerie nature. Even darker than the overt horror aspects are the subtext, hidden messages, and theories about living in an abusive home and the subtleties of character motivations and history.

‘Watership Down’ (1978)
Watership Down has received multiple adaptations, including a Netflix version and a graphic novel based on the book, but the 1978 animated movie perfectly encapsulates the complex story and dark themes. Fiver, a young rabbit, dreams that their land will be destroyed, so he convinces some friends to go on a journey to find a new home. During this journey, they encounter many threats and obstacles, such as evil rabbits, a raging river, and a rat cemetery.
The realistic art style enhances the already disturbing events in the heavy animated movie, such as the bloody war zone and the black rabbit of death. The haunting chases between the protagonists and the rabid evil rabbits are enough to send shivers down the spines of adults. Despite its PG rating, Watership Down is filled with blood and even cannibalism as it kills off some of the cutest creatures. It might never feature anything explicitly, but the suggestion of danger is ever-present, making it more emotionally impactful.

‘Perfect Blue’ (1997)
One of Satoshi Kon‘s masterpieces, Perfect Blue, is an anime film about the horrors of celebrity life and the effect fans have on their favorite stars. After singer Mimi decides to move on from music in favor of acting, her life turns upside down, and reality blends into fantasy when her fans abuse her. Soon, Mimi is haunted by a figure from her past and harassed by a stalker.
Unlike Western animated films, anime movies are no strangers to making them dark. The unsettling Perfect Blue slowly shows the protagonist’s downfall and the delusions she experiences. The events of the film are truly disturbing as her paranoia and psychosis develop from the murders surrounding her and the backlash from the public. Perfect Blue is an unsettling story that makes fans reflect on their actions towards celebrities and proves animation isn’t just for kids.

‘American Pop’ (1981)
Bakshi made an even more disturbing movie, this time focusing more on the real world and a family of Russian immigrants. American Pop follows several characters with a love for music, which they try to make into a career until something goes wrong. Zalmie, Benny, Tony, and Pete are the generations of the Belinsky family and can never seem to catch a break from tragedy.
Part of what makes American Pop so dark is the constant loop of hope/passion and tragedy, as each character has a rough life but lives through music and ultimately meets some grim fate. Whether it be a dying wife, a death in war, or drug addiction, each member goes through a terrible fate. Watching American Pop gets more depressing and hopeless as it continues to torture every single character. The family’s tragedies are supposed to parallel popular American music in the 20th century, making the film all the more dark as it is based in reality.

‘Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio’ (2022)
Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio is a modern take on the classic novel that leans into brutality and darkness. After the death of his son, Geppetto builds a puppet brought to life by a fairy. Inexperienced but enthusiastic, Pinocchio embarks on an adventure trying to find a place for himself in fascist Italy. The film won the Oscar for Best Animated Film as it reimagines Pinocchio into a darker, humanistic story.
As dark as it could get while still being PG, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio features striking moments of exploding fish, war montages, and burning at the stake. Even the creation of Pinocchio is shrouded in darkness, as Geppetto builds him from guilt and depression over the loss of his son. The film, which goes through two World Wars, doesn’t hold back and shows Mussolini and the war effort. Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio is haunting, and despite ending on a somewhat happy note, it still sees the immortal Pinocchio bury all his friends and family.

‘Grave of the Fireflies’ (1988)
Grave of the Fireflies is based on the book of the same name and was inspired by the author’s real life; he wrote it as a coping mechanism because of his guilt for surviving and his sister dying. The film follows Seita and his two-year-old sister Setsuko as they try to survive during the American bombings of Japan. The movie starts with their deaths as their spirits reconnect, recounting their time trying to survive.
Despite being known for their whimsical fantasy stories, Studio Ghibli made one of the darkest movies ever. Any war story is going to be sad to some degree, but focusing on two children and focusing on their survival makes for a heart-wrenching story. To make it even sadder, the author wrote it as what should have happened, giving the audience an insight into his guilt. The film tried to lessen the depression by showing the siblings’ deaths at the beginning, but all that did was ensure the audience that things would never get better. Grave of the Fireflies is a horrific tale of war that highlights the conflict’s atrocities and how little people matter, making it incredibly dark and depressing and one of the best and most influential animated movies ever.

Angelina Jolie Reveals How She Raised Six Kids Her Way
For years, Angelina Jolie’s children have remained at the center of intense public interest, particularly as the fallout from her long-running family dispute with Brad Pitt continues to make headlines.
However, in a rare new interview, the Oscar winner shifted the focus away from the drama and toward the philosophy that has guided her as a mother.
As all six of her children enter adulthood, Jolie is opening up about the parenting approach she believes helped shape them into independent individuals.

While many parents focus on directing their children’s lives, Angelina Jolie believes her role has always been different.
Speaking candidly about raising Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne, the actress said one of her biggest priorities was giving each child the freedom to become their own person.
“One of the most important things, I think, is to basically not get in their way,” she told L’Officiel.
Jolie described her children as people with their own identities, ambitions, and perspectives, stressing that parents should avoid trying to mold them into extensions of themselves. Instead, she believed support mattered more than control.
“As a parent, you try to do many things, but you also try to not get in the way of this human being who has a life separate from yours and so much potential in their own mind,” she explained. “You want to make sure that you support them.”
The 51-year-old also shared that she was proud of the different directions her children had chosen, noting that they were “definitely individuals” who continued to carve out paths that reflected their own interests and personalities.
Jolie Reveals The Surprising Careers Her Sons Are Building Outside Hollywood Fame

Angelina Jolie also opened up about what her children are doing away from the spotlight, and the answers surprised many fans.
In the interview, Jolie revealed that sons Maddox and Pax had been quietly pursuing careers and interests far removed from celebrity culture.
Rather than simply stepping into acting, both have spent time learning the business from behind the scenes. The filmmaker explained, “I think if you have any interest in working on film, you need to be a part of the crew and do the hard work and know all the different departments.”
According to Jolie, both sons have worked as assistant directors on film projects. She also shared that their ambitions extended beyond movie sets.
“They’ve worked on a few films that way, and they’re both doing other things, too: Maddox is focusing on being a pilot, and Pax has his photography, but I think he does have an interest in film,” she shared.
Jolie also made clear that despite working with her children professionally, family remained the priority. In her words, “Obviously it’s nice for me to be around them, but I am just Mom, wanting to be around her family.”
Jolie’s Daughter Zahara Takes A Major Legal Step Away From The Pitt Name

Months before Jolie’s comments made headlines, one of her daughters made a decision that showed exactly what the Hollywood star was describing.
In June, The Blast reported that Zahara formally moved forward with efforts to remove “Pitt” from her surname, becoming the latest of the former couple’s children to publicly distance herself from Brad Pitt.
Court filings revealed that Zahara petitioned to legally change her name to Zahara Marley Jolie, a step that followed years of already using “Jolie” in public settings.
The move did not come out of nowhere. During her induction into Alpha Kappa Alpha at Spelman College, Zahara introduced herself as “Zahara Marley Jolie,” notably leaving out her father’s surname.
What made the development even more significant was that Zahara was not alone. Reports indicated that Shiloh previously succeeded in legally dropping “Pitt” from her surname, while Vivienne had publicly used “Vivienne Jolie” in professional credits. Maddox also reportedly pursued a similar change.

Angelina Jolie Confirms She Wants To Leave The U.S. And Embrace A Nomadic Life

With all six of her children now adults, Jolie is looking toward a dramatic new chapter.
The actress confirmed in the L’Officiel interview that she intends to spend far more time living outside the United States and no longer sees herself staying permanently in Los Angeles.
Speaking about her future plans, Jolie admitted, “I’d like to be a bit nomadic for a while.”
The move has reportedly been in the works for years. She has already listed her Los Feliz home for sale and is preparing to divide her time among several locations around the world.
Cambodia is expected to play a major role in those plans due to her longstanding humanitarian work and the presence of the Maddox Foundation there.
She also revealed that she wants to become more involved in hands-on humanitarian efforts while expanding Atelier Jolie internationally.
Brazil has reportedly emerged as a potential location for the organization’s first major expansion outside the United States, with additional plans involving Cambodia and Europe.
Perhaps most tellingly, Jolie said her children fully support the change. After years spent focused on raising six children, she now feels ready to devote more time to travel, creative projects, and global causes.
Jolie’s Children Are Encouraging Her To Embrace A New Chapter

Angelina Jolie also revealed that the family dynamic has begun to shift in an unexpected way.
Rather than relying on her, her kids are encouraging her to focus more on herself and the passions she put aside while raising them.
“I really love and am looking forward to more connection and community. I’m not somebody who vacations or shops or things like that,” she revealed.
Instead, Jolie is envisioning a future built around travel, humanitarian work, and adventure. Among the goals she hopes to revisit are flying planes again, riding her motorcycle, and spending more time in the field through her charitable work.
“That’s definitely what my kids want! They had Mom when Mom needed to be Mom. Now, they’d like me to call them from Tunisia having just landed a plane to meet with local artists,” the “Maleficent” star noted.
Jolie also revealed that she had little interest in settling down permanently in one place. Looking ahead, she explained that she hoped to spend more time working through her foundation in Cambodia and traveling extensively.
