Phil Foden was sent off in the first half of Sunday’s clash between Manchester United and Manchester City at Old Trafford after kicking out at Bruno Fernandes

Gary Neville believes Michael Oliver made the right decision to send off Phil Foden in the Manchester derby.

The Manchester City forward was shown a straight red in the 23rd minute at Old Trafford after kicking out at Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes.

He told Sky Sports: “Well he’s not having it Phil Foden, Bruno Fernandes has a bit of kick at him while he’s on the ground and it look like he reacts. Is it a punch in the stomach? A kick in the stomach?

“He’s kicked into the stomach. He’s not going to get away with that. You can see why he’s annoyed Foden, he thinks Bruno kicked at him while he’s down. He then reacts badly. VAR described it as a kick with both feet into the stomach. I have reacted and sent off in a Manchester derby, it is a painful run down the tunnel.”

He added: “I’m surprised Bruno didn’t get a yellow, I don’t think it’s a red but he’s got away with one. He certainly pulled a reaction out of Foden which will help his teammates.

“The thing I thought he got wrong, that’s a yellow card for Bruno Fernandes, that one you’re not going to get away with. He’s shocked Phil Foden but once he gets into the dressing room, he’ll realise.”

Noche UFC 4 proved to be an enjoyable edition of the UFC’s annual Mexican Independence Day weekend card. Jean Silva thwarted a spirited effort from Jose Delgado, Brandon Moreno got back to winning ways, Alexa Grasso seemed to secure a title shot, and Sean King III slammed his way into an impactful UFC debut.

But none of that compared to the wild war seen between two undefeated prospects, Tommy McMillen and Marwan Rahiki. And with the way McMillen fought as he earned the victory, we can now start to wonder if the hype around him is for real.

Both fighters came in with similar stories. They both made an impression on Dana White’s Contender Series to the point that they earned UFC contracts. Both were undefeated in professional MMA and were 2-0 in the UFC, with two finishes each.

Even though one could say the UFC had more stock in McMillen, given he’s teammates with another UFC darling in Sean O’Malley, it’s not every day you see the UFC book undefeated top prospects with stock in them up against one another. After all, it’s greatly risking losing momentum if dominated, finished, or both.

The UFC would only do something like this if they know the fight is going to be pure fire. And the two of them, assisted by pre-fight tension, lived up to that promise.

The right hand proved to be McMillen’s friend early on, landing consistently as the action began at a fast pace. Rahiki attempted to find his own groove, but he was playing behind the 8-ball and trying to catch up with McMillen throughout the round. In fact, McMillen even scored a takedown and threatened a choke at one point.

But even though Rahiki was getting tagged, he showed his spirit and remained in the fight, not deterred by any of McMillen’s offense. He stayed patient and waited for his opportunity, and that arrived in the second round.

Rahiki landed a left hand, sending McMillen crashing to the canvas. McMillen was able to get back up, but Rahiki brought about a volume and power that showed the shoe was on the other foot this time around. McMillen scored a late takedown and tried to threaten more submissions, but it wasn’t a match for the offense Rahiki provided.

This fight clearly looked like it was going to come down to round three – and probably whose cardio was better. Ultimately, it was McMillen’s.

Despite a strong start from Rahiki at the end, McMillen landed a right and dropped Rahiki again. McMillen then controlled the action for the rest of the fight, earning the decision in the back-and-forth battle.

McMillen is now 12-0 as a professional MMA fighter, and all three of his Octagon bouts have earned him a post-fight bonus. Perhaps it’s time for another step up in competition, and let’s see if “Tommy Gun” can continue to entertain as he searches for a quick way into the UFC featherweight rankings.

Jahmyr Gibbs is the highest-paid running back in NFL history, and he thinks that should be reflected in your fantasy football draft.

“For sure,” Gibbs said with a reported smile Tuesday when asked if he’d take himself with the No. 1 pick in a fantasy football draft, according to the Lions’ team website. “I’m either going to make a lot of people happy or mad.”

The Detroit Lions signed Gibbs, a Pro Bowler in each of his three seasons in the NFL (2023-25), to a three-year, $67.5 million extension in August, with the $22.5 million average annual value a record for a running back.

Last season (2025), Gibbs rushed for 1,223 yards and 13 touchdowns on 5.0 yards per carry, while tallying 77 receptions for 616 yards and five touchdowns. The year prior (2024), he rushed for 1,412 yards and an NFL-high 16 scores on 5.6 yards per carry.

Now, Gibbs, who has averaged 246.5 carries per season since 2024, is likely in store for a larger workload this season, as the Lions traded veteran running back David Montgomery, who averaged 187.3 carries per season from 2023-25, to the Houston Texans. Last season, Gibbs and Montgomery were the only Detroit players to get the call on the run more than three times, combining for 401 carries. Moreover, aside from Gibbs, the Lions’ current running back room – Jacob Saylors and Sione Vaki – has a combined nine NFL carries under their belt.

“I guess I’m getting most of the carries. I feel good [about that],” Gibbs expressed about likely getting more carries. “It’s nothing I haven’t done before. It’s going to be cool.”

Following a 9-8 season that saw them miss the playoffs for the first time since 2022, the Lions fired offensive coordinator John Morton, who replaced the outgoing Ben Johnson – the now-head coach of the Chicago Bears. Former Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing is Detroit’s new coordinator. After being fifth in the NFL in rushing yards in 2023 (135.9 per game) and sixth in 2024 (146.4 per game), the Lions were 14th (120.1 per game) last year.

Gibbs and the Lions open the 2026 regular season at home against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon (1 p.m. ET on FOX).

Terence Crawford was sat ringside to witness Ryan Garcia‘s dominant knockout win over Conor Benn.

Garcia was defending his WBC welterweight title against Benn at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, with a lot of talk pre-fight about how Benn would cope with the power of ‘King Ry’ as he took part in his first welterweight bout since April 2022.

It turned out that ‘The Destroyer’ was unable to deal with that power, as a big right hand in the second round dropped Benn, and even though he was able to get back to his feet, a further onslaught from Garcia forced the referee to jump in and stop the contest.

One man that was backing Benn to come out on top ahead of the fight was five-weight world champion Crawford, who retired from the sport back in December after earning undisputed honours in a third division.

Crawford and ‘King Ry’ have been involved in a number of heated back and forths over the past few months, but it appears that ‘Bud’ gave credit where it was due after Garcia’s win, with a social media clip revealing his immediate reaction to the performance.

“I said if Conor could handle Ryan’s power then Ryan would be in trouble, he couldn’t handle it. It’s the fight game. Congratulations Ryan. He did what he did.”

Garcia has been keen to try and get Crawford out of retirement for a fight, but it seems that ‘King Ry’ could now be about to turn his attention to a unification clash with WBA welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez instead, after calling him out following the win over Benn.

Adding to the embarrassment for Indian wrestling, Asian Games-bound Greco Roman wrestler Deepak has failed a dope test, forcing the national federation to withdraw him from the contingent, further shrinking the Indian challenge at continental showpiece.

The development comes after India have already lost two wrestling places in the Asian Games squad following doping cases involving Mukul Dahiya (men’s freestyle 86kg) and Deepanshu (Greco Roman, 130kg).

Deepak was the first wrestler from the Indian postal service to secure a place in the Indian team for the Asian Games.

The 25-year-old Delhi wrestler was a surprise winner at the selection trials held in Lucknow on May 31 after coming through a medal-winning show at the Federation Cup.

According to a notification issued by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), Deepak’s urine sample, collected during the selection trials, returned an atypical finding for clomifene, a prohibited substance classified under S4 (Hormone and Metabolic Modulators) of the 2026 WADA Prohibited List.

NADA said the sample was reported as an atypical finding on July 23 and, following an investigation and an interview with the wrestler on August 17, decided to move the case forward as an Adverse Analytical Finding.

Clomiphene usually helps in treating infertility in men and women.

Not yet suspended says NADA =================== NADA’s notification, however, does not state that Deepak has been provisionally suspended. It specifically says he is not provisionally suspended pending resolution of the case and may continue to participate in competitions unless a suspension or period of ineligibility is subsequently imposed.

However, the notification also said that if the ADRV is confirmed, results obtained from the date of sample collection – May 31, 2026 – until the commencement of any provisional suspension “would be liable to disqualification, unless fairness requires otherwise”.

If the B-sample confirms the presence of clomifene, or if Deepak waives B-sample analysis, the ADRV would be confirmed under the applicable anti-doping rules.

We can’t take risk, says WFI ================== A Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) official said they are withdrawing Deepak from the squad since if he returns a positive test during the Games, world governing body UWW can impose a penalty of Rs 20 lakh on the WFI.

“Deepak had indeed surprised coaches by winning the trials. He was never part of the national camp that is why he was never tested enough. He came to trials stage through his medal at the Federation Cup.

“We are withdrawing him from the squad,” said the official.

WFI could have saved quota places ===================== WFI contended that if they were intimated the adverse results in time, they could have saved all three quota places.

“Deepanshu was tested in March and we got his result only in July. Similarly Mukul and Deepak were tested on May 31 and we are getting the results now. If we had known the results early, we would not have sent their names. We would have replaced them with others, but nothing can be done now,” said the official.

When asked why the WFI is unable to convince the wrestler to stay clean, the official said,”We are bringing in very strict doping policy very soon. Offenders will not be spared. We are already trying to educate them.” The NADA notice said Deepak had not declared any medication related to the substance on his doping control form and did not produce purchase records, invoices or bills for dietary supplements he said he had consumed.

The agency also said there was no Therapeutic Use Exemption for clomifene and that no departure from the relevant testing or laboratory standards could explain the finding.

NADA determined that Deepak failed to satisfactorily account for the presence of the prohibited substance.

The wrestler, however, has the right to challenge the A-sample result by requesting analysis of the B-sample. He has seven days from receipt of the notification to exercise that right.

Garrett Wilson has high standards for the New York Jets this season.

“[Making the playoffs is] very realistic,” New York’s star wide receiver said after stating that making the playoffs defines a successful season, according to ESPN. “I think it should happen. I’ll say that. It’s our job to go play ball and do it, but that’s how I feel about it.”

The Jets are coming off a 3-14 season, haven’t posted a winning season since 2015 and haven’t made the playoffs since 2010, which is the longest drought in professional American sports.

As for new faces, New York has two new coordinators, as head coach Aaron Glenn parted ways with offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand after the 2025 season and moved on from defensive coordinator Steve Wilks in December of last season.

Former Indianapolis Colts, Carolina Panthers and Stanford Cardinal head coach Frank Reich is the Jets’ new offensive coordinator, while former Miami Dolphins and Detroit Lions defensive assistant Brian Duker is their new defensive coordinator; Duker was an assistant under Glenn when the latter was Detroit’s defensive coordinator from 2021-23.

On the personnel side, offensively, the Jets acquired veteran quarterback Geno Smith — who played the first four seasons of his career with the franchise (2013-16) — from the Las Vegas Raiders, signed guard Dylan Parham (two-year, $16 million deal), selected Oregon Ducks tight end Kenyon Sadiq with the No. 16 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and traded up to select Indiana Hoosiers wide receiver Omar Cooper with the No. 30 pick.

Defensively, New York selected Texas Tech Red Raiders defensive end David Bailey with the No. 2 pick in the draft, acquired safety Minkah Fitzpatrick from the Dolphins and signed linebacker Demario Davis (two-year, $22 million deal) — who also began his career with the Jets (2012-15 and 2017) — cornerback Nahshon Wright (one-year, $3.5 million deal) and defensive ends Joseph Ossai (three-year, $34.5 million deal), David Onyemata (one-year, $10.5 million deal) and Kingsley Enagbare (one-year, $9 million deal), among other moves.

“Something is going to happen this year. I’m excited, man. We have a hell of a group here.”

Wilson, whom New York selected with the No. 10 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Ohio State and signed to a four-year, $130 million extension in July 2025, was limited to seven games last season (2025) due to a knee injury, totaling 36 receptions for 395 yards and four touchdowns across the action he saw. Over the first three years of his career (2022-24), Wilson averaged 93.0 receptions for 1,083.0 receiving yards and 4.7 touchdowns per year, while never missing a game.

Wilson and the Jets open the 2026 regular season on the road against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday afternoon. Of course, Tennessee’s new head coach, Robert Saleh, was previously New York’s head coach from 2021-24.

Jose Mourinho has been asked for his thoughts on Michael Carrick at Manchester United with the Portuguese having a good idea of what it’s like in the Old Trafford hot seat

Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has praised Michael Carrick’s work as Reds head coach. Carrick worked under Mourinho at Old Trafford, firstly as a player until his retirement in 2018 and then as a coach.

The Englishman had a transformative impact at United after being appointed interim boss in January following Ruben Amorim’s sacking. United went from a struggling side to one that comfortably finished third and qualified for the Champions League.

That saw the former Reds midfielder handed a two-year contract by Ineos, who were impressed by his work. Carrick’s record last term included 11 wins, three draws and just two defeats.

United’s start to the 2026/27 campaign has been more challenging, with four points from three Premier League games, which include a defeat at Hull City and a draw at Everton.

But Mourinho, who managed the club between 2016 and 2018, has offered his backing to Carrick while speaking to Sky Sports at Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

He said: “He’s doing well Michael, doing well. I’m happy with that.”

The Portuguese was in charge for 144 matches as United’s manager from May 2016 to December 2018. During that time, he guided the Reds to a Community Shield, Europa League and League Cup.

However, after a disappointing third season with United, he was replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Mourinho has since returned to Real Madrid and was asked earlier this year about his time in Manchester.

The 63-year-old said: “My career at Manchester United, I know it well. I also know the reason why I ended up leaving,” Mourinho said.

“But as I always do, or try to do, when I leave a club I close the door and then I do not make comments. I do not analyse externally what happened.

“A door closes and another one will open. That is what happened when I left. The history stayed there, the numbers stayed there, the three medals came home and that is it.”
