Alison Hammond’s Big Weekender, which was her first major BBC1 show and followed her success with Channel 4 and ITV, has been quietly dropped by the BBC after one series
Alison Hammond‘s first major BBC1 show, Big Weekender, has been dropped by the broadcaster. The series saw Alison stay with celebrities such as Spice Girl Mel B and actor Luke Evans for the weekend to get to know them and their careers.
The six part series aired last year on BBC1 and episodes saw Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards open up about anxiety, Jimmy Carr talk about his cosmetic surgeries, Luke Evans discussing his childhood as a Jehovah’s Witness, Mel B talking about being a Spice Girl, Sir Lenny Henry diving into his childhood, and Tony Bellew taking Alison to Liverpool.

However, the show failed to make a big splash and has not been renewed for another series. A BBC spokesperson told The Sun that they were “proud” of the series but had no plans for it going forward.
“We are proud of the series and loved working with Alison,” they said. “Whilst there are currently no plans for any new episodes we are looking forward to working with her again in the future.”
Alison, who first found fame on Big Brother, hosts a string of TV shows, including Channel 4’s The Great British Bake Off. She took over co-hosting the series alongside Noel Fielding in 2023, following Matt Lucas’ departure.
She has also taken over For The Love Of Dogs on ITV, joining the show in 2024 after Paul O’Grady died. Alison has already had a series on BBC2 called Florida Unpacked, in which she and her son Aidan, who also appeared on Celebrity Gogglebox with her, headed to the Sunshine State for family adventure. It is unknown if the series will return.
The news about Big Weekender comes shortly after Alison got a great new role with Netflix. The TV star will be giving podcasts her all as the host of Netflix’s Bridgerton podcast ahead of the fourth series, which premieres at the end of the month.
In the series, Alison will chat to the cast and crew, including this season’s romantic leads Luke Thompson, who plays Benedict Bridgerton, and Yerin Ha, who plays Sophie Baek, the ward and illegitimate daughter of an earl who has to become a maid after his death.
Further guests are currently under wraps, but fans can expect Alison to dive into the series’ newest swoon-worthy romance and other scandalous developments hitting the ton this year.
While the interviews will be available in video form on Netflix and YouTube, fans can also tune in on Apple Podcasts and Spotify if they prefer to listen in on the go.
As well as a podcast, streamers will be able to live-stream the premiere happening in Paris on 14th January, experience fan events in over 20 countries, including the UK, Australia, Brazil and Spain, and discover collaborations with top brands such as Dove, Pandora, COTY, Liberty of London and more.
