Police have said other motorists and pedestrians are being put at risk
Police have issued a warning to motorists who have been ignoring road closure signs in South Belfast, saying they are putting others at risk.
Road closure signs are currently in place on Tates Avenue between Ebor Parade and the Glenmachan Street roundabout, stopping traffic heading towards the Lisburn Road. However a number of motorists have been reportedly ignoring the road closure signs and driving past them.
Police have said that as a result they have been “inundated” with calls from people saying that pedestrians and other vehicles are being put at risk.

The force has said it will be monitoring this area in the coming days while the road closure is in place and anyone found ignoring the signs could face fixed penalty notices or prosecution for careless driving.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “Tates Avenue is currently closed between Ebor Parade and the Glenmachan Street roundabout for traffic heading away from the Lisburn Road. This closure is very clearly signposted and is due to last for several more days. Over the past two days we have been inundated with calls reporting motorists ignoring the closure signs and driving through the closure causing a danger to pedestrians and other vehicles who are lawfully passing the closure in the correct direction.
“These actions are dangerous and motorists detected will be issued with fixed penalty notices or in some cases prosecuted for careless driving.”
