14 Years Later, Disney’s Cult Sci-Fi Movie Tom Cruise Wanted to Star in Is Way Better Than Its Baffling Box Office Would Suggest

Published

on

John Carter runing from a monster at a Coliseum

Tom Cruise has a career packed with plenty of science fiction films. Edge of Tomorrow survived a turbulent production and became a surprise success. Oblivion may not have been as successful, but it led to Cruise working with Joseph Kosinski, and the two eventually reunited for Top Gun: Maverick. One could even argue that the technology used by Cruise’s Ethan Hunt in the Mission: Impossible franchise borders on the edge of science fiction. But there’s one science fiction movie that Cruise never managed to become a part of, despite his desire to play the lead role, and that’s John Carter.

Based on the John Carter of Mars novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the John Carter movie was shaping up to be truly epic. Andrew Stanton, the mastermind behind Pixar hits Finding Nemo and WALL-E, was making his live-action debut with the film. Michael Chabon, an accomplished novelist who helped contribute to the Spider-Man 2 screenplay, co-wrote the script. The cast was talented, including Bryan Cranston, Willem Dafoe, and Mark Strong among them. However, John Carter ran into a number of roadblocks that led to it being one of the biggest box office bombs in history — yet it’s far from a horrible movie.

Taylor Kitsch Beat Tom Cruise for the Lead Role in ‘John Carter’

In an oral history conducted by TheWrap, Stanton admitted that casting John Carter himself was a tough process, especially since the list of potential candidates was apparently a very long one. Taylor Kitsch would land the role, but Tom Cruise was determined to get it first. Stanton had his mind set on casting Kitsch, though:

“I had Taylor already in mind by the time Tom made his interest known. Tom had a long history with the material, so it wasn’t too surprising to discover he still had interest in it. He was a consummate professional in his discussions with me about the role, and beyond respectful to the fact I was already on an audition path with Taylor,” he said.

This wasn’t the first time Cruise had been attached to a John Carter film. Back in 1990, Disney was flirting with the idea of adapting the material with Cruise as Carter and Julia Roberts as the Princess of Mars, Deja Thoris. The team behind the scenes was just as impressive: John McTiernan was approached to direct following the success of Predator and Die Hard, with Back to the Future screenwriter Bob Gale tapped to flesh out the script. Things stalled out when McTiernan decided to direct Last Action Hero (which ironically turned out to be another box office bomb), but it’s not surprising that Cruise wanted to join Stanton’s version.

‘John Carter’ Is a Good Movie That Was Let Down by Its Marketing

Looking back at John Carter, it’s a film that was ahead of its time. Most of the political intrigue and worldbuilding rivals anything displayed in Dune or Game of Thrones, and Stanton’s work with Pixar makes many of the computer-generated characters — including Dafoe’s Tars Tarkas, leader of the Green Martians — feel like actual flesh and blood. Stanton and Chabon also manage to distill the essence of A Princess of Mars into an action-packed adventure that also has a fair amount of humor and heart. So what exactly led to its box office misfortunes?

The answer lies in the marketing campaign which saw Stanton making a number of baffling choices. He chose not to advertise his work with Pixar in the trailers, when that could have drawn newcomers to the theater. Instead of going with A Princess of Mars as the title, the choice was made to simply call the film John Carter, without considering that some audience members might not know about the books. The cherry on top was the fact that Disney’s marketing team at the time was led by someone who had no experience in movies, and therefore didn’t really know how to sell the film. “This is one of the worst marketing campaigns in the history of movies,” a Disney exec told Vulture. “It’s almost as if they went out of their way to not make us care.”

Your Fate Has Been Calculated
You’d Survive In…
Advertisement

Your answers point to the world your instincts were built for. This is the universe your temperament, your survival instincts, and your particular brand of stubbornness were made for.

The Resistance, Zion

The Matrix

You took the red pill a long time ago — probably before anyone offered it to you. You’re a systems thinker who can’t help but notice the seams in things.

  • You’re drawn to understanding how the system works before figuring out how to break it.
  • You’d find the Resistance, or it would find you — your instinct for spotting constructed realities is the machines’ worst nightmare.
  • You function best when you have access to information and the freedom to act on it.
  • The Matrix built an airtight prison. You’d be the one probing the walls for the door.

The Wasteland

Mad Max

The wasteland doesn’t reward the clever or the well-connected — it rewards those who are hard to kill and harder to break. That’s you.

  • You don’t need comfort, community, or a cause larger than the next horizon.
  • You need a vehicle, a clear threat, and enough fuel to outrun it — and you’re good at all three.
  • You are unsentimental enough to survive that world, and decent enough — just barely — to be something more than another raider.
  • In the wasteland, that distinction is everything.

Los Angeles, 2049

Blade Runner

You’d survive here because you know how to exist in moral grey areas without losing yourself completely.

  • You read people accurately, keep your circle small, and ask the questions others prefer not to answer.
  • In a city where humanity is a legal designation rather than a feeling, you hold onto something that keeps you functional.
  • You’re not a hero. But you’re not lost, either.
  • In Blade Runner’s world, that distinction is everything.

Arrakis

Dune

Arrakis is the most hostile environment in the known universe — and you are precisely the kind of person it rewards.

  • Patience, discipline, and political awareness are your core strengths — and on Arrakis, they’re survival tools.
  • You understand that the long game matters more than any single victory.
  • Others come to Dune and are consumed by it. You’d learn its logic and earn its respect.
  • In time, you wouldn’t just survive Arrakis — you’d begin to reshape it.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Star Wars

The galaxy far, far away is vast, loud, and in a constant state of violent political upheaval — and you wouldn’t have it any other way.

  • You find meaning in being part of something larger than yourself — a cause, a crew, a rebellion.
  • You’d gravitate toward the Rebellion, or the fringes, or whatever pocket of the galaxy still believes the Empire’s grip can be broken.
  • You fight — not because you have to, but because standing aside isn’t something you’re capable of.
  • In Star Wars, that willingness is what makes all the difference.

The Failure of ‘John Carter’ Marked a Turning Point for Disney

John Carter might have been yet another example of Disney fumbling a potential sci-fi franchise, but it would also mark a turning point for Disney. A few months after John Carter‘s failure, The Avengers would take the box office by storm and Disney would also acquire Lucasfilm. With the Marvel Cinematic Universe proving to be a moneymaker and the Star Wars franchise under its belt, Disney would slowly rely on those two properties for sci-fi stories.

John Carter is a simple case of execution failing to meet intent. While Andrew Stanton intended to deliver a cosmic epic that matched Edgar Rice Burroughs’ books, he didn’t take marketing into account. But the film’s reappraisal in later years proves that it had the glimmers of something special — and it didn’t need Tom Cruise to pull it off.

Alix Earle Confesses To Going ‘Too Far’ With Older Men

Published

on

Alix Earle has candidly shared her personal relationship preferences and reflected on the boundaries of her romantic life.

The popular influencer dropped major hints about a highly publicized rumor seemingly involving Tom Brady while explaining why she avoids partners her own age.

Her open discussion comes months after she split from her boyfriend of two years, 30-year-old NFL player Braxton Berrios.

The internet personality seemingly hinted at her rumored relationship with 48-year-old football legend Brady while breaking down her dating habits on the latest episode of her “Get Real With Me” YouTube series.

During the broadcast, the content creator firmly rejected the idea of pursuing peers close to her own age. She looked back on a recent romantic outing to illustrate her point, stating, “I went on a date with a guy who was a year older than me. I can’t do it again.”

Her guest for the episode, 25-year-old Quenlin Blackwell, voiced total agreement with the sentiment, stating, “I don’t date guys my age.”

The influencer further explained her perspective by admitting that when she spent time with someone so close to her in age, she simply didn’t feel like she was with a true man.

Earle also confessed that she actively gravitates toward older partners because she genuinely wants someone who can take care of her and someone who really knows their stuff. However, she openly laughed about how this strong preference can sometimes swing entirely too far in the opposite direction.

“Sometimes then I’ve gone too far the other end, and I’m like, ‘Grandpa!’” she joked, per Page Six.

This comes after she sparked massive romance rumors with Brady when the two were spotted attending a yacht party in St. Barts on New Year’s Eve.

The confessions regarding Earle’s preference for mature partners align closely with her recent public appearances alongside the legendary quarterback.

Shortly after initially sparking romance rumors during their New Year’s Eve celebration, the social media star and the iconic athlete further fueled relationship speculation by appearing at the exact same high-profile event in Las Vegas.

The Blast confirmed that the popular content creator arrived with a group of friends wearing a light gray shift dress paired with a gold belt, while the sports icon opted for a sleek look featuring black pants, a matching jacket, and orange-tinted sunglasses.

Despite being spotted in the same place, Earle later seemed to deny that she was seeing anyone. In fact, she expressed a desire to meet someone new.

According to The Blast, Earle was asked who she would like to take a picture with at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, and she said, “Honestly, no one. I’m just like, maybe I’ll get someone’s number or something? I could meet someone.”

Her comments seemed to imply that she wasn’t romantically tied to anyone, despite the rumors swirling around her and Brady.

The single status Earle claimed after the Oscars is likely what set the stage for subsequent drama between two of football’s biggest stars.

Brady took his flag football rivalry with Joe Burrow to another level by roasting the quarterback after he partied with Earle following the Academy Awards.

Brady wasted no time taking a jab at his rival, using the team name to troll him by stating, “That’s what they called Joe the other night at those Oscars parties .. the Wildcat.”

The broadcaster further mocked Burrow’s role as a clothing brand ambassador, adding, “At least he’s here, no fashion shows to attend.” Rather than retaliating, Burrow took the high road, offering a brief side-eye before breaking into a smile, per The Blast.

Following the public drama involving Brady and Burrow, Earle shifted the focus back to her own personal life by opening up about a late-night decision she deeply regrets.

While appearing on “The Drew Barrymore Show” to promote her skincare line, Reale Actives, the 25-year-old influencer was asked to share the final bad idea she had recently actioned.

“Oh, my gosh. Probably texting my ex at, like, five in the morning after going out,” Earle shared. Host Drew Barrymore quickly offered her reassurance, calling the early-morning mistake incredibly human, per The Blast

The popular content creator went on to describe the late-night scene in more detail, explaining that the text message was sent immediately after a night out and a few drinks. She admitted that she was looking with only one eye at her phone screen when she decided to type out the message.

Speaking with PEOPLE, Beauvais admitted that she’s been struggling to navigate her feelings about her sons growing up. “Oh my God, the house feels different already,” she said.

“I can, like, the energy feels different. Every now and then, I burst into tears because it’s not like the day-to-day of motherhood, what’s for dinner, I can’t make your game, oh my God, we need 25 cupcakes, and, you know, like all those little things,” she added.

According to Beauvais, her twin boys are “both driving,” meaning finding time where they’re all together is a bit more challenging. “I mean, the other day they both drove and met me for dinner, and yeah, it’s different,” she said.

In 2023, Beauvais took viewers behind the scenes of her relationship with her twin sons, Jax and Jaid, on an episode of “RHOBH.” During the conversation, Beauvais’ sons were honest with the multi-hyphenate about how much they dislike being away from her when she has to leave to work.

“I definitely feel guilty that my work takes me away sometimes,” she said on camera before telling her sons that they could always be honest with her about their feelings. “I don’t know if that would change me not going because it’s work commitments, right, but I’m saying sometimes I wish you would vocalize it. This is your chance to say how you feel about how we run the household,” she said.

Elsewhere in the episode, Beauvais admitted to feeling “a lot of pressure as a working parent,” explaining that while she’s always tried to be present for her kids, knowing that she sometimes wasn’t felt “like a knife to the heart.”

A year earlier, Beauvais’ son, Jax, was the topic of conversation on “RHOBH” after one of his mother’s co-stars, Erika Jayne, was filmed cursing at him during a group event. After the episode aired, Jax was relentlessly attacked by social media trolls, prompting Beauvais, other “Real Housewives” stars, and Bravo to release a statement.

“We are shocked and appalled at the social comments directed at Garcelle’s son,” the statement from Bravo’s Instagram read. “We urge our viewers and social followers alike to refrain from targeting our cast and their families with harmful rhetoric.”

Beauvais reshared Bravo’s post to her profile, adding, “Thank you, BravoTV, for your support. It’s not OK!!!”

Beauvais left the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” in 2025. She opened up about her departure in her new audio book, “Protecting My Peace… At All Costs,” according to a previous report from The Blast.

“A line was drawn for me that I no longer wanted to cross. I felt like my spirit could no longer do it. (It was) just drama for the sake of drama,” Beauvais said about her surprising exit.

Beauvais made headlines when she walked off the “RHOBH” season 14 reunion set after feuding with a majority of the women.

“I realized something I couldn’t unsee. I didn’t have an ally. Not one. Not a single friend [is] sitting on that stage with me. No one to lock eyes with, no one to lean toward. No one saying, ‘I see you,’” Beauvais said in her latest book. “The same way I walked in is how I walked out. Alone. I didn’t wanna fight anymore. I didn’t wanna be a grown a, woman, a grandmother, going after other women.”

Leaving The Show Was Hard For Beauvais

While she said goodbye to the series, Beauvais admitted leaving the show behind wasn’t an easy decision.

“It was hard because, again, I’m an immigrant. You don’t leave jobs,” she said. “You don’t leave jobs that are paying you, right? So that wasn’t an easy decision.”

Who Could Die in Euphoria’s Season 3 Finale? Theories Explained

Published

on

Zendaya in Euphoria season 3

Euphoria is building up to its third — and possibly last — finale with several characters potentially being set up for an onscreen death.

Based on the Israeli series of the same name, Euphoria followed troubled high school student Rue (Zendaya) as she struggled to remain sober after rehab. The series also explored topics including mental illness, toxic relationships, sexuality and more. After its premiere in 2019, the show’s ensemble cast, which included Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, Colman Domingo quickly skyrocketed to fame.

Ahead of the season 3 finale, which airs May 31, Elordi’s character, Nate, was killed off with a rattlesnake bite.

“That was a cool way to go. Nate was someone who has made so many mistakes and made so many dark choices,” Elordi explained in a segment that aired after the May 24 episode. “It’s cool to see it all come to what it’s come to.”

Elordi recalled having to film in a coffin, adding, “My shoulders were touching the side and they couldn’t move my arms. Then they would drill the lid on it and it would get dark.
It was really nice, actually. It was quite peaceful in there.”

At the end of the segment, Elordi reflected on his time playing Nate.

“It’s a bittersweet thing,” he said. “This show is a massive part of — not just my career — but my life. It’s been amazing and I’m so proud of being a part of this.”

Nate isn’t the only one on the chopping block. Keep scrolling for every possible character death scenario ahead of the season 3 finale:

Ireland Baldwin is expecting baby number two! On May 23, the daughter of the former couple, Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger, broke the news of her second pregnancy on Instagram, in a joint post with her longtime beau, RAC.

The video set to Justin Hurwitz’s “Planetarium” began with a close-up of a family of three’s bathroom robes hanging from a rack before a brown robe was added. Then a cute onesie was placed on top of a toddler’s pink pajamas on the bed, followed by a baby bottle beside a sippy cup.

Next came a hand, presumably Ireland’s, pushing away a bottle of wine and opting for a bottle of Unisom SleepTabs. The video concluded with Ireland’s hand holding a strip of sonogram images. Since the heartwarming clip did all the talking for them, the couple captioned the post with a single red heart emoji.

Howey and Ziering initially scheduled their wedding for 2021 following their engagement; however, they were forced to postpone the ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic, per Hello! Magazine. They eventually said their vows in a private residence in Palos Verdes, California.

Sprouse isn’t the only first-time parent in the works, as Marvel star Sebastian Stan is gearing up to be a dad. The actor and his girlfriend Annabelle Wallis first made waves for the pregnancy in April when they were spotted on a stroll, with the actress’s baby bump on display.

Stan addressed his status as a soon-to-be father weeks earlier in an interview with Deadline, declaring, “I want to be a good dad.” He weighed in on what it meant to be a father in his forties, confessing that he felt the responsibility tied to being a good father and a good man.

“I’m 43, and I feel, in a lot of ways, I’m just starting to learn now. It’s just crazy to me,” Stan said. He added that his latest role in the movie “Fjord” motivated him to take a closer look at his own life. The film follows a man forced to contemplate his own value as a father and as a man.

Stan is set to become a father thanks to his girlfriend, Wallis. The pair first sparked dating rumors in May 2022 when they were spotted at Robert Pattinson’s 36th birthday party in New York. PEOPLE reported that a since-deleted picture shared by photographer Myles Hendrik caught them kissing.

A few months after the party, Stan amd Wallis were seen grabbing lunch together in Manhattan and cuddling while on a stroll. They enjoyed more PDA moments, including celebrating Stan’s 40th birthday in Greece. In 2024, they walked the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival.

The love between them kept blooming with Stan giving Wallis a special shout-out in January 2025 during his acceptance speech. At the time, the actor won the Golden Globe Award for best performance by a leading actor in a musical or comedy film. “Annabelle, I love you,” Stan declared.

The baby news extends beyond Hollywood, with “Call Her Daddy” host Alex Cooper set to be a first-time mom. The media personality broke the news on Instagram, sharing two pictures with her husband Matt Kaplan. Both images captured the couple outdoors, with Cooper’s baby bump on display.

Copper dropped the pictures on May 17, captioning the post with a white heart emoji and the words, “Our family.” She beamed at her partner with joy in the images, showing off her growing baby bump in a white crop top while Kaplan backed the camera with his hand on her thigh.

The pictures received over 1 million likes and over 12 thousand comments, as fans and celebrities celebrated the couple’s latest addition to their family. Media personality Savannah Montano dubbed Cooper the “cutest mom ever,” while model Winnie Harlow wished the soon-to-be mom a healthy pregnancy.

According to TODAY, Cooper and Kaplan first met in July 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. She had a meeting with her future husband’s ACE Productions company and recalled falling for him at first sight during a 2024 interview.

Cooper’s feelings were not one-sided, as she eventually started dating Kaplan during the pandemic. Although she initially never saw herself as someone who would tie the knot, she changed her mind in December 2022 and urged Kaplan to propose.

The TV producer popped the big question in May 2023 in their home, and they got married months later in April 2024, saying their vows in an intimate beachside wedding in Mexico. Cooper described their ceremony as a “fairy tale,” while praising Kaplan as “the most romantic man” in her life.

John Cena and Eric André Bring Netflix’s Next Chaotic Romp to Life in Bonkers New Look

Little-Brother-Watermark

John Cena has become one of the most reliable comedy actors working today. A huge part of that success comes from how committed he stays to every situation his characters find themselves in, regardless of how absurd things become. Some of Cena’s funniest performances work because he approaches escalating chaos with complete sincerity, usually while looking increasingly disgruntled — or horrified — that everything around him is falling apart. Eric André, meanwhile, has built an entire career around creating exactly that kind of chaos.

That combination sits at the center of Netflix’s upcoming comedy Little Brother, which pairs Cena and André together in what already looks like one of the streamer’s strongest comedic pairings of the summer. Combining André’s unpredictable, confrontational energy with Cena’s increasingly refined straight-man comedy style makes Little Brother feel especially well-suited to both actors’ strengths. If you find yourself unable to wait for more from the upcoming movie after the official trailer debuted last week, Collider is thrilled to reveal an exclusive image of the starring duo in the movie ahead of its release next month as part of our Exclusive Summer Preview series.

01

You’re dropped into a dangerous situation with no warning. What do you need most from a partner?
The first few seconds tell you everything about who belongs beside you.

02

You have to get somewhere dangerous, fast. How do you travel?
How you get there is half the mission.

03

You’re pinned down and outnumbered. What does your ideal partner do?
This is when you find out what someone is really made of.

04

The mission is paused. You have one evening to decompress. What does your partner suggest?
Who someone is when the pressure drops is who they actually are.

05

How do you prefer your partner to communicate mid-mission?
Good communication is the difference between partners and a liability.

06

Your enemy is powerful, well-resourced, and has the upper hand. How should your partner approach them?
The approach to the enemy defines the partnership.

07

Things go badly wrong and you’re captured. What do you trust your partner to do?
Who someone is when you need them most is the only thing that matters.

08

What does your ideal partner bring to the table that you couldn’t replace?
A great partner fills the gap you didn’t know you had.

09

Every partnership has a cost. Which of these can you live with?
No one comes without baggage. The question is whether you can carry it together.

10

It’s the final moment. Everything is on the line. What do you need from your partner right now?
The last question is the most honest one.

Your Partner Has Been Assigned
Your Perfect Partner Is…

Your answers have pointed to one action hero above all others. This is the person built to have your back — for better or considerably, spectacularly worse.

Rambo

Your partner doesn’t talk much, doesn’t need to, and will have assessed every threat in your immediate environment before you’ve finished your first sentence. John Rambo is not a man of plans or politics — he is a force of nature shaped by survival, loyalty, and a capacity for endurance that goes beyond anything training can produce. He will not leave you behind. He has never left anyone behind who deserved to come home. What you get with Rambo is the most capable, most quietly ferocious partner imaginable — one who has been through things that would have broken anyone else, and who chose to keep going anyway. You’ll never need to ask if he has your back. You’ll just know.

James Bond

Your partner will arrive perfectly dressed, perfectly briefed, and with a cover story so convincing it’ll take you a moment to remember what’s actually true. James Bond is the most professionally dangerous person in any room he enters — and the most disarmingly charming, which is the point. He operates in a world of layers, where nothing is what it appears and every advantage is used without apology. You’ll never be bored. You’ll occasionally be furious. But when it matters — when the mission is genuinely on the line and the margin for error has collapsed to nothing — Bond is exactly the partner you want. He has survived things that have no business being survivable. He does it with style. That is not nothing.

Indiana Jones

Your partner will know the history, the language, the cultural context, and exactly why the thing everyone else is ignoring is actually the most important thing in the room. Indiana Jones is brilliant, reckless, and occasionally impossible — but he is also one of the most resourceful, most genuinely knowledgeable partners you could find yourself beside. He approaches every situation with a scholar’s eye and a brawler’s instinct, which is an unusual combination and a remarkably effective one. He hates snakes and gets personally attached to objects of historical significance, both of which will slow you down at least once. It doesn’t matter. What Indy brings is irreplaceable — and the adventures you’ll have together will be the kind people write books about. Assuming you survive them.

John McClane

Your partner was not supposed to be here. He does not have the right equipment, the right information, or anything approaching the right odds. He has a sarcastic remark and an absolute refusal to accept that the situation is as bad as it looks. John McClane is the greatest accidental hero in the history of action cinema — a man whose superpower is stubbornness, whose contingency plan is improvisation, and whose capacity to absorb punishment and keep moving would be alarming if it weren’t so useful. He will complain the entire time. He will make it significantly more chaotic than it needed to be. And he will absolutely, unconditionally, without question come through when it counts. Yippee-ki-yay.

Ethan Hunt

Your partner has already run seventeen scenarios by the time you’ve finished reading the briefing, and the plan he’s settled on involves at least two things that should be physically impossible. Ethan Hunt operates at the absolute edge of human capability — technically, physically, and intellectually — and he brings the same relentless precision to protecting his partners that he brings to dismantling organisations that shouldn’t exist. He is not easy to know and he will never fully tell you everything. But he will carry the weight of the mission so completely, so absolutely, that your job is simply to trust him — and the remarkable thing is that trusting him always turns out to be the right call. The mission will be impossible. He will complete it anyway.

Who Else Is in ‘Little Brother’?

Little-Brother-Watermark

Netflix’s upcoming comedy Little Brother stars Cena as a successful real estate agent whose carefully curated life begins unraveling after the sudden return of his eccentric former “little brother,” played by André. Directed by Ingrid Goes West filmmaker Matt Spicer, the movie also stars Michelle Monaghan, Christopher Meloni, Sherry Cola, Ego Nwodim, Caleb Hearon, Ben Ahlers, Bryce Gheisar, and Pilot Bunch. Little Brother was written by Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel, and is produced by David Bernad for Middle Child Pictures and Ruben Fleischer.

The movie marks the first major collaboration between Cena and André since Cena’s memorable appearance on The Eric Andre Show in 2020, where the actor brought the WWE skills he was still using pre-retirement to crash through the set. Little Brother appears ready to channel some of that same chaotic energy into a full-length feature, with André playing a character who rapidly dismantles the carefully controlled life Cena’s character has built for himself. Early details about the movie suggest a comedy driven heavily by escalating discomfort, awkward family dynamics, and the increasingly fragile patience of a man watching his perfectly organized world collapse.

Little Brother premieres on Netflix on June 26. Stay tuned with Collider for the next few days as we reveal exclusives from the biggest movies of the upcoming season.

Everything to Know About RHOSLC Alum Jen Shah's Legal Drama

Yellowstone‘s Marshals is returning for season 2 — but is everyone from the cast coming back?

The Paramount Network show, which premiered in 2018, introduced viewers to the fictional Dutton family. Yellowstone came to an end in 2024, expanding its universe with Luke Grimes‘ CBS show Marshals and Dutton Ranch, which premiered in May.

According to the official synopsis, Marshals follows Kayce as he leaves “ranching life behind to join an elite unit” of the U.S. Marshals while “combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”

In addition to Grimes, the show stars Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, Tatanka Means, Brett Cullen and Logan Marshall Green. The season 1 finale hinted at several character deaths — and a possible cast exit.

Star Wars Deleted Scene Is Worse Than Anything AI Could Come Up With

Star Wars Deleted Scene Is Worse Than Anything AI Could Come Up With

By Chris Snellgrove
| Published

If you’re ever really hungry for new Star Wars content, you don’t need to rely on Disney+. Instead, all you have to do is bust out your old Blu-rays and check out the special features. There, you will find deleted scenes that may completely change how you see the movie. For example, 2005’s Revenge of the Sith may be a goofy movie, but it has deleted scenes featuring Genevieve O’Reilly killing it as Mon Mothma nearly two decades before she played the character in Andor.  Of course, the movie also has a deleted scene that will remind you of just how batsh*t insane George Lucas really is.

This deleted scene has been making the rounds on social media lately, and most who watch it have the same question: “is this AI?” The answer is no, this scene is very real, but it does involve the most famous artificial intelligence in a galaxy far, far away: droids. In this scene, we see Anakin and Obi-Wan discussing droid language, and then Anakin repeatedly speaks the droid language, complete with beeps and boops. It is (and I don’t say this lightly) one of the stupidest things in Star Wars history. However, in a bizarre twist, this scene plays a major part in some largely forgotten franchise lore.

The Dumbest Star Wars Deleted Scene

The deleted Revenge of the Sith scene takes place early in the movie, when Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker have boarded General Grievous’ ship to rescue Chancellor Palpatine. They have been in communication with R2-D2, but Anakin’s translator breaks. He asks his mentor if he can understand what the astromech is saying, and Obi-Wan responds by reminding his former padawan, “I’m not a protocol droid.” Anakin then tries to translate part of what R2 said, complete with droid noises. He does so again when Obi-Wan corrects him about the interpretation (namely, that the droid wants them to go up, not down).

The scene is wonderfully absurd. It wouldn’t be so crazy for Anakin Skywalker to simply know what R2-D2 is saying. At different points in the franchise, we have seen characters like Luke Skywalker, Poe Dameron, and Rey understand droids’ binary language without the use of a translator or a protocol droid. But actually having Anakin speak that language out loud, with perfect robotic inflection, is insane. Could anybody do this (kind of like how Han Solo learned to speak Wookie), or is this a Jedi thing? If nothing else, the scene is hilarious because it sounds like Anakin is cursing, and his vulgar language has been bleeped (or should we say beeped?) out.

Did Obi-Wan Use DuoLingo?

As stupid as this Revenge of the Sith deleted scene is, though, it arguably plays an important part in the lore. For example, many fans think that Obi-Wan Kenobi can understand what R2-D2 is saying in A New Hope because he speaks to the droid conversationally and finds Princess Leia’s hidden message so easily, possibly because R2 had told him what to do. If that’s true, then it’s evidence of weird character development. Obi-Wan couldn’t speak Binary (the droid language) in Revenge of the Sith, but he may have found the time to do so while watching over young Luke Skywalker (after all, there’s not much to do on Tatooine).

Additionally, the Anakin in this deleted scene is a bit more like his later portrayal in the Clone Wars cartoon. Over the years, some fans have felt like there were basically two different Anakins: the brooding, future Vader of the prequels and the quirky, slightly wacky Jedi warrior of the cartoon. Here, we see that these two Anakins are one and the same, and the same guy who would be slaughtering children by the end of the film is doing robot impressions at the beginning.

This isn’t the most important deleted scene in Star Wars history, but it might just be the weirdest. It shows us a different side of Anakin Skywalker while also injecting a bit of sideways humor into an otherwise very serious film. In its own way, this scene also hints at Anakin’s future transformation into Darth Vader because (based on his goofy beeps and boops) he was clearly “more machine than man” long before his duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The Black Rider’ Officially Sets Summer 2026 Release

Published

on

The Lord of the Rings The Black Rider

The Lord of the Rings fans are in for a big year in 2026 with the return of the Prime Video original series, The Rings of Power. Prime Video confirmed last year that production on the third season had wrapped filming, and the studio doubled down on the show by announcing a November 11 premiere date for Season 3. The Lord of the Rings fans are also gearing up for a return to theaters next year with The Hunt for Gollum, which is coming to the big screen on December 18, 2027, the same day as Avengers: Secret Wars. Lord of the Rings fans were dealt a blow not long ago when it was confirmed that Viggo Mortensen would not reprise his role as Aragorn in the film — Jamie Dornan will play the character instead.

One part of The Lord of the Rings franchise that has helped it become the biggest fantasy franchise in the world — it’s not particularly close — are the various creatures that occupy the movies and TV shows. Whether it’s watching Aragorn run down a pack of Orcs, or seeing Gandalf fly into battle on a Giant Eagle, there are aspects of large-scale Lord of the Rings battles that you can’t get from any other franchise. One of the more harrowing creatures in The Lord of the Rings are the Nazgul, or the Ringwraiths, who are in constant pursuit of the Fellowship throughout the original trilogy. Sideshow Collectibles has announced a new Nazgul art print known as The Black Rider, is set to officially launch this summer at a currently unspecified date. The print comes in various sizes that retail from $85 to $365.

Middle-earth Has Spoken
You Belong To…
Advertisement

The race that claimed the most of your answers is your true kin. If two tied, both are shown — you walk between worlds.

◆ A TIE — YOU WALK BETWEEN TWO RACES ◆

🌿
Advertisement

Your Race

The Hobbits

You are, at your core, a creature of comfort, community, and quiet joy — and there is nothing small about that. Hobbits are proof that heroism does not require ambition, that the bravest heart can beat inside the most unassuming chest. You value good food, warm hearths, close friends, and a world that stays largely untroubled by dark lords and quests. When adventure does find you — and it will — you rise to it not because you sought it, but because the people you love needed you to. That is not ordinary. That is the rarest kind of courage in all of Middle-earth.

🌟

Your Race

The Elves

Ancient, graceful, and carrying a weight of memory most mortals cannot fathom, you are one of the Elves. You see the world in its fullness — its beauty, its impermanence, the unbearable ache of watching everything you love eventually fade. You pursue perfection not from pride, but because excellence is how you honour the time you have been given. Others may see you as remote or melancholy. They are not wrong, exactly. But they mistake depth for distance. You feel everything — which is precisely why you have learned to carry it so quietly.

⚒️

Your Race

The Dwarves

Stubborn, proud, fiercely loyal, and possessed of a work ethic that would exhaust most other races before breakfast — you are Dwarf-kind through and through. You do not ask for approval and you do not offer it cheaply. Your loyalty, once given, is given for life. Your grudges last longer. You love deeply and defend ferociously, and the things you build — with your hands, with your sweat, with generations of accumulated craft — are made to last. Not for glory. Because anything worth doing is worth doing properly, and you have never once done anything by half measures.

⚔️

Your Race

The Race of Men

Mortal, ambitious, flawed, and magnificent — you belong to the most complicated race in Middle-earth, and that complexity is your greatest strength. Men are capable of cowardice and extraordinary bravery, of cruelty and breathtaking sacrifice, sometimes within the same breath. You feel the urgency of your finite years, and it drives you. You want to matter. You want to leave something behind. You fall, and you rise, and the rising is what defines you. Tolkien called mortality the Gift of Men — not a curse, but a fire that burns bright precisely because it does not burn forever. That fire is you.

💀
Advertisement

Your Race

The Orcs

Brutal, survivalist, and contemptuous of anything that can’t defend itself — you answered with the instincts of an Orc, and there is a certain savage honesty in that. You do not dress up your desires in polite language or pretend you want things you don’t. You want power, survival, and to never be at the bottom of any hierarchy ever again. Orcs are not evil by nature — they were made from something that was once good, and broken into this shape by forces they did not choose. What remains is fierce, territorial, and deeply aware that the world is not kind. You’ve made your peace with that. The question is what you do with it.
