‘Reply 1988’ (2015–2016)
Reply 1988 not only succeeded but also inspired awe. Its final episode received a 19.6% cable rating, breaking the record that was later surpassed by Goblin. More remarkably, Reply 1988 sparked an annual rewatch ritual across South Korea (and even some other countries), proving its extraordinary emotional impact. The show’s nostalgic recreation of 1980s Korea, including the Olympic spirit, the music, the food, and the fashion, sparked a retro craze (“newtro”) that increased sales of everything from tracksuits to vintage sneakers. It won the Grand Prize at the Baeksang Arts Awards and has been voted the best Korean drama of all time by countless critics. Reply 1988 takes place on a single, unremarkable street in Seoul’s Dobong district in the late 1980s, where five families with teenage children live lives of ordinary, exquisite humanity. Reply 1988 lacks a central conflict, a supervillain, or a fateful curse, instead featuring neighbors sharing food through open doors, teenagers obsessed with cassette tapes and first loves, and parents who are equally concerned with money and each other. The plot revolves around Sung Duk-seon (Lee Hye-ri) and the four boys who grow up alongside her, one of whom will become her husband—a mystery that the show keeps until the final episode. When the finale returns to the alley for the final time with the signature voiceover, it’s laced with nostalgia and sadness that will still make you happy; the ending adds to the reasons why Reply 1988 is the best Korean drama ever made.

Influencer Avery Woods is ready for her life to be on full display in the upcoming Secret Lives of Mormon Wives spinoff set in Orange County.
“It’s reality TV, there’s going to be drama,” Woods, 31, teased about the upcoming show during an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, while promoting her partnership with Olive & June. “There’s a lot of different personalities and a lot of different beliefs and views.”
Before Woods makes her debut on the latest Hulu show, she partnered with Olive & June to launch a new collaboration of 12 press-on nails designed for everyday life as a mom and businesswoman.
“I feel very, very privileged [at] this point in my career to be very picky about who I work with and I don’t want to just put my name on something for a quick buck. I want to design a collection with a company that feels very authentic. This was just the perfect fit because I genuinely used Olive & June every single day,” Woods explained. “So when they reached out, it just kind of felt like a no-brainer, and they’ve been incredible to work with.”

As for the show, Woods explained that the spinoff is “really cool and unique” because some of the cast members “are still active in the church,” while “some people were raised Mormon and have left the church” and others “have never been Mormon, but we have very close people in our lives that are part of the church so we know a lot about it.”
“It really is like the community I felt like I was raised in and I followed a lot of the same things these girls did,” Woods shared. “I was married at 21, had my first baby at 23. I met my husband at 18. That was just kind of like the culture we were raised in, but I will say it’s really cool seeing the dynamic of the girls who are still actively part of the church. And then there’s like the LA girls that are not part of the church.” (Woods, for her part, has been married to David since 2016.)
She continued, “We all could not be more different, but I think the coolest part about us all coming together is we’ve started to understand and be more open to how each one of us lives our life, because we all make different choices and different decisions, and we raise our children differently, we dress differently, we speak differently. So I think if anything, we’ve come to appreciate each other more, and also had very open and honest conversations about our beliefs and why we are shaped the way that we are. I think it’ll be really cool for people to see that.”
Woods was announced as one of the cast members joining The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County in April, alongside fellow California-based moms McCall Dapron, Aspyn Ovard, Bobbi Althoff, Salomé Andrea, Ashleigh Pease, Madison Bontempo and Chandler Higginson.
Vice President JD Vance claims his wife, second lady Usha Vance, had a change of heart about welcoming baby No. 4 after Charlie Kirk was killed last year.
“As my wife held Charlie Kirk’s widow on the first day of her terrible sorrow, Erika [Kirk] told Usha between sobs that she regretted having only two kids with Charlie,” JD, 41, wrote in his new book, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, which was excerpted by The Wall Street Journal on Friday, June 5.
Charlie, a conservative commentator and political activist, was shot and killed in September 2025 at the age of 31. Charlie is survived by wife Erika, 37, and their two children.
JD, meanwhile, is a father of three. He and Usha, 40, share sons Ewan, 8, and Vivek, 6, as well as daughter Mirabel, 4.
“For years, I’d asked Usha to have another baby, and for years, she told me she was done, especially now that public service had elevated us into the national spotlight,” JD wrote in his memoir, per WSJ. “Something changed for Usha, and not long after we buried my friend, she became pregnant with our fourth child, a boy.”
The Vances announced in January, four months after Charlie’s death, that they are expecting baby No. 4.
“I don’t know why God does things like this,” JD stated in his book passage. “But, I am grateful to him that there will soon be another source of joy in our lives, another beautiful soul to wonder at and fall in love with, God’s beautiful creation.”
As for Usha, she previously denied that she “closed the door” on having more kids ahead of her pregnancy.
“People have asked me if we’re going to have a fourth baby, and I’ve never closed the door on that,” the attorney told NBC News in a March interview. “I grew up in a family of two, and I thought that was a great number. And then I had two kids, and I thought, ‘I didn’t feel quite done. I really wanted to have a third child.’”

The backlash against Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was so massive that it nearly sent J.J. Abrams into hibernation. Abrams, who is responsible for directing two of the most expensive movies in history, hasn’t helmed a film since The Rise of Skywalker disappointed fans and critics. The movie also underperformed commercially, despite having grossed more than $1 billion worldwide. You see, the Star Wars sequel cost nearly $600 million to produce. It’s the second-most expensive movie of all time, behind Abrams’ own Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which reportedly cost almost $640 million. However, fans of Abrams’ signature brand of “mystery box” moviemaking can rejoice, as he has not one, but two, major projects due for release this year.
For several years, The CW was filled with superhero shows ranging from Arrow to DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, but one of the channel’s best examples of the genre is too often forgotten. Though most of these existed in the same universe, allowing for major crossover events, some of the later ones remained separate, as is the case with Stargirl. Coming out as the Arrowverse was ending, the series never interacted with the others (though a brief glimpse in “Crisis on Infinite Earths” implied that it takes place on another earth within that multiverse). While its separation from the other series caused the show to fall under the radar, Stargirl has a lot to offer.
Following a group of teen heroes, the 2020 series tells an exciting story full of action and complicated family dynamics. Throughout its three seasons, Stargirl forces the characters to grow, both in their work as heroes and in their personal challenges. With compelling protagonists and fascinating villains, the series never has a dull moment. Though too often forgotten, Stargirl is the kind of show that you can watch over and over without getting tired of it.
What Is ‘Stargirl’ About?
While there are many superhero series out there, Stargirl sets itself apart by centering on the second generation of heroes rather than starting at the beginning. The series begins years after a tragic fight between the JSA and the Injustice Society that destroyed the heroes. Afterward, the villains continued to work on their plan for the small town of Blue Valley in peace, at least, until a handful of high school students pick up the former heroes’ mantles. The star is Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger), who discovers the sentient Cosmic Staff in her basement and learns that her stepfather, Pat Dugan (Luke Wilson), used to be Starman’s (Joel McHale) sidekick. Bonding with the staff, Courtney becomes Stargirl, and begins to think that maybe the Cosmic Staff chose her because Starman is her long-absent father.
With a hero to challenge them, the Injustice Society quickly reemerges, and Courtney cannot fight them alone. Pat mentors Courtney and tells her about the JSA, which inspires her to revive the team by recruiting her peers to become heroes. Yolanda Montez (Yvette Monreal) becomes the next Wildcat, Beth Chapel (Anjelika Washington) becomes Doctor Mid-Nite, and Rick Tyler (Cameron Gellman) continues his father’s legacy as Hourman. These newly minted heroes must stop the Injustice Society, led by Icicle (Neil Jackson), and their mysterious “Project New America” to save their home while juggling all the complexities of high school. While their superhero lives are the center of the show, each character has their own personal struggles. With so much going on, Stargirl remains engaging, even if you already know what will happen.
‘Stargirl’ Thrives on Its Unique and Intriguing Characters
Out of everything Stargirl has to offer, the characters stand out the most. Structured to give each aspiring hero their own emotional arc, Stargirl relies on its many strong characters even as the stakes rise. While Rick deals with his pent-up anger, Beth struggles with feelings of abandonment, and Yolanda faces bullying, each has their own emotional story in addition to their roles as heroes. Meanwhile, Courtney remains the center as she searches for the truth behind her past and discovers that family is about more than genetics. In fact, the Whitmore/Dugan family is central as they grow together through unusual circumstances. Family, as a whole, is an important theme as the series explores the complex relationships between the Injustice Society and their children, like Cindy (Meg DeLacy), Artemis (Stella Smith), and Cameron (Hunter Sansone), showing a darker side to legacy. All of these stories work together to create a well-developed cast that fans can both sympathize with and admire.

One thing that stands out about Stargirl‘s characters is that the series doesn’t rely on DC’s most popular characters. The JSA has a long history in DC comics, but it doesn’t include many of the most recognizable names. Even the heroes people know, like Flash or Green Lantern, are not the most popular incarnations. This allows Stargirl to draw on lesser-known stories, separating it from other DC content, and ultimately, it is a better story because of that. The strong characters and unique story make the series worth watching, even if you’ve already seen it.

Dane died at age 53 after battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), less than one year after publicly revealing his diagnosis in April 2025. Authorities are now searching for answers after a violent incident near the beloved annual event left multiple people injured and sent festivalgoers scrambling for safety.

Gunfire Breaks Out Near Popular Community Festival
According to officials, officers with the Toledo Police Department responded around 5:37 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, after receiving reports of a shooting near Delaware and Glenwood avenues, just outside the annual Old West End Festival. Investigators believe at least two individuals exchanged gunfire in the area, striking multiple people who were attending or near the event. When officers arrived, they discovered numerous victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Gunfire struck 12 people, leaving two victims in critical condition. Authorities reported no fatalities as of late Saturday.
Furthermore, police revealed that the victims ranged in age from 14 to 61 years old, highlighting just how many lives were impacted by the violence. Several injured individuals were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment, while investigators continued interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence from the scene. Speaking during a press conference, Toledo Police Lt. Dan Gerken described the incident as “over the top” and urged community members to come forward with any information that could assist investigators.
Police Continue Search For Suspects
Police have not arrested any suspects so far. Authorities say investigators are actively pursuing leads and reviewing evidence collected from multiple locations connected to the shooting, including areas near Delaware and Robinwood avenues. Officials are also asking anyone who attended the festival to share photos, videos, or other footage that may help identify those responsible. Police noted that officers were already on-site at the festival when the shooting occurred and immediately responded after hearing gunfire.
Community Leaders React To The Violence
The shooting unfolded near the Old West End Festival, a longtime community tradition that attracts thousands of visitors each year to one of Toledo’s most historic neighborhoods. Deputy Chief Joseph Heffernan said a few individuals turned a beloved community event into a scene of chaos. Meanwhile, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine addressed the incident on social media, saying he was “deeply concerned” by the shooting. He added that summer festivals should remain safe spaces for families and expressed confidence that law enforcement would locate those responsible as the investigation continues.
