8 Netflix Fantasy Shows That Nobody Remembers

Published

on

Randall turning into a werewolf in The Order

Netflix is well known for its TV greats, and some of its fantasy shows are definitely the best, while others may be fantastic but aren’t very enduring. The platform has released several ambitious, genre-blending blasts that have sadly slipped far from attention. From amazing stories filled with magic and mystery to bold, dark reimaginings of classic myths, there are quite a few underappreciated fantasy gems that have faded so much that they have become almost misplaced in the vast TV landscape.

Fantasy series like the brilliant Norwegian Norse mythology reimagining Ragnarok and the abruptly canceled supernatural show Warrior Nun, which combines mythology, emotional storytelling, and action, are just two in the Netflix catalog that have become well-hidden gems. On this list are other such shows, unnoticed fantasies on Netflix that nobody seems to remember.

1

‘The Order’ (2019–2020)

The Order is an enchanting blend of secret societies, dark magic, and supernatural strife, set against a college backdrop. The series follows Jack Morton (Jake Manley) as he arrives at Belgrave University with the intentions of avenging his mother, only to wind up pledging to a secret magical society, where Alyssa Drake (Sarah Grey) becomes both his guide and moral complication.

The Order, during its run, wasn’t a very talked-about series, despite how addictive it was. The series has mostly been forgotten by Netflix subscribers, as it’s now overshadowed by more immersive hits with much more expansive worlds. Though The Order does have its flaws and is often noted only when it’s being dubbed disposable streamer pulp, its soapy supernatural story is quite captivating. Its concept is genuinely entertaining as it graduates from its derivative-looking YA packaging into a weird, funny, high-concept supernatural drama with sharper mythology than it initially appears to have. The Order may not be one of Netflix’s fantasy finest, but the show is quite compelling and deserved far more attention than it ever received.

‘Hilda’ (2018–2023)

This Netflix animated series delivers quite the captivating bout of whimsy and adventure. Hilda, an extremely enchanting fantasy series, centers on a fearless blue-haired girl named Hilda (Bella Ramsey), who leaves a wilderness of giants, elves, and spirits for Trolberg, a bustling city packed with new friends and mysterious creatures.

Hilda is too underappreciated for being such a charming series. With a soft animation style, the show explores a richly imagined fantasy world filled with wonder and mystery. Hilda carries an emotional weight that audiences tend not to expect, hidden beneath its gentle tone and warm visuals. Few shows even host a fraction of the animated series’ emotional intelligence, with its softness and sincerity that make it a standout in terms of tonal precision. Hilda is a storybook come to life, with a warmth and sweetness that isn’t overpowering, and a melancholy that isn’t dreary. The series may be mostly forgotten and frequently overlooked, but it is truly beloved by those who have seen it.

‘Warrior Nun’ (2020–2022)

Warrior Nun is an underappreciated Netflix drama that combines high-energy supernatural action with religious mythology. The show focuses on Ava Silva (Alba Baptista), who wakes up from death in a morgue with a supernatural Halo embedded in her back and is instantly thrown into a chaotic battle against demons as she is now attached to the Order of the Cruciform Sword.

From its action to its character arcs, Warrior Nun is genuinely a captivating watch with a devoted fan following who have often expressed their frustration at the show’s abrupt cancellation after its second season. The series may not be very well-known, but it’s a balanced spectacle with emotional storytelling that leaves a lasting impression, despite its short run. Warrior Nun is honestly a lot less campy than its premise suggests, which garnered the series its loyal fanbase, as it turned out to be so much more than what viewers first expected. With the series cut short rather soon, it has consistently faded into the background, being replaced by bigger names in the fantasy lineup on Netflix.

Gollum

You carry something heavy — and you carry it alone, even when you don’t have to. You were not born for greatness, and that is precisely why greatness chose you. Your courage is not the roaring, sword-swinging kind; it is quiet, stubborn, and terrifying in its refusal to quit. The Ring weighs on you more than anyone can see, and still you walk toward the fire. That is not weakness. That is the rarest kind of strength there is.

You are, without question, the best of them. Not the most powerful, not the most celebrated — but the most essential. Your loyalty is not a trait; it is a force of nature. You would carry the person you love up the slopes of Mount Doom if it came to that, and we both know you’d do it without being asked. The world needs more people like you, and the world is lucky it has even one.

You were born to lead, and you have spent years running from it. The crown is yours by right, but you know better than anyone that right means nothing without the will and the worthiness to back it up. You are tempered by loss, shaped by long roads, and defined by a code of honour you hold to even when no one is watching. When you finally step forward, the world shifts. Because it was always waiting for you.

You have seen more than you let on, and you say less than you know — which is exactly as it should be. You are a catalyst: you do not fight the battles yourself, you ignite the people who can. Your wisdom comes not from books but from an age of watching what happens when it is ignored. You arrive precisely when you mean to, and your presence alone changes what is possible. A wizard is never late.

Graceful, perceptive, and almost preternaturally calm under pressure — you see things others miss and act before others react. You do not need to make a scene to be remarkable; your presence speaks for itself. You are loyal to those you choose to stand beside, and that choice is not made lightly. You have lived long enough to know that the most beautiful things in this world are also the most fragile, and that is why you fight to protect them.

You are loud, proud, and absolutely formidable — and beneath all of that is one of the most fiercely loyal hearts in Middle-earth. You don’t do anything by half measures. Your friendships are forged like iron, your grudges run as deep as mines, and your courage in battle is the kind that makes legends. You came into this fellowship suspicious of everyone and ended it willing to die for an elf. That is not a small thing. That is everything.

You think in centuries and act in absolutes. Order, dominion, control — not because you are cruel by nature, but because you have decided that the world left to itself always falls apart, and you are the only one with the vision and the will to hold it together. You were not always this. Something was lost, or taken, or betrayed, and the version of you that stands now is the answer to that wound. The tragedy is that you’re not entirely wrong — just entirely too far gone to course-correct.

You are a study in contradiction — pitiable and dangerous, cunning and broken, capable of both cruelty and something that once resembled love. You are defined by loss: of innocence, of self, of the one thing that gave your existence meaning. Two voices war inside you constantly, and the tragedy is that the better one sometimes wins, just not often enough, and never at the right moment. You are a warning, yes — but also a mirror. We are all a little Gollum, given the right ring and enough time.

‘Luna Nera’ (2020)

This darker, more atmospheric take on witchcraft and folklore explores magic through a grounded and eerie lens. Set in historical Italy, Luna Nera follows a teenage midwife named Ade (Antonia Fotaras) as she is accused of witchcraft, and is pulled between the women of a hidden magical lineage and the forbidden tenderness of Pietro (Giorgio Belli).

With a mix of supernatural elements and historical drama, Luna Nera delivers quite the story in an impeccably striking way. Its tone and visuals make it a solid standout among Netflix’s fantasy collection, as it delivers a truly haunting narrative that lingers beyond its runtime. Luna Nera may not be one of the streaming platform’s true champions of the fantasy genre, but it holds its own, even with its minuscule following. Luna Nera is a constantly overlooked gem that has slipped under the radar often enough that, sadly, most hardly remember it exists.

5

‘Cursed’ (2020)

Nimue (Katherine Langford) in Cursed

Cursed brilliantly delivers the reimagining of an Arthurian legend using a darker and more character-driven approach. The bold series centers around the teenage sorceress, Nimue (Katherine Langford), as she embarks on an intense journey to deliver to Merlin a powerful and ancient sword.

Cursed is one of Netflix’s most ambitious fantasy series. Its bold vision made it an easy favorite for those who took a chance on it. Sadly, the series didn’t get an opportunity to manifest its potential due to a rather abrupt cancellation after its first season. Cursed was a clear contender for expansion, with its richly built world that was truly ready for deeper exploration. Today, the series sadly sits on Netflix’s shelf of unknown watches that have been forgotten by most fantasy enthusiasts.

6

‘Locke & Key’ (2020–2022)

The Locke family looking off screen in worry in the Locke & Key series.

This cult favorite is as underrated as they come. The Netflix fantasy series Locke & Key focuses on the Locke family — Tyler Locke (Connor Jessup), Kinsey Locke (Emilia Jones), and Bode Locke (Jackson Robert Scott), along with their mother, Nina Locke (Darby Stanchfield) — after the murder of their father, Rendell Locke. They move into their ancestral home, Keyhouse, where they discover several magical keys that unlock different abilities, as well as very dark secrets.

Locke & Key delivers a truly epic fantasy that has unfortunately never gotten the attention it deserves. With a strong mix of emotional storytelling and tons of supernatural elements, the show makes for some pretty great TV. Locke & Key is one of Netflix’s most beloved underrated treasures that has gained a decent-sized loyal following. It may lie largely overlooked and go mostly unknown to the platform’s subscribers, but it remains an extremely entertaining entry that keeps viewers engaged from beginning to end.

7

‘Ragnarok’ (2020–2023)

Ragnarok is an exceptionally ambitious reimagining of Norse mythology in a modern-day setting. The Norwegian fantasy drama centers around awkward teen Magne (David Stakston) in the polluted town of Edda, as he discovers he is the reincarnation of Thor and must battle the Jutuls — a family of giants who are disguised as humans set on destroying the environment.

Ragnarok is a genuinely captivating fantasy series, one of Netflix’s best. While most have no idea the show actually exists, and many of its past viewers have forgotten that it sits on the streaming platform’s fantasy shelf, Ragnarok is still extremely cherished by the few who took a chance on it and were truly captivated by the Nowiegien gem. Ragnarok stands as a fantastic modern fantasy that has unfortunately quietly slipped past many viewers, but it does remain as a unique take on a well-known mythology and continues to resonate through its strong performances, grounded storytelling, and a thoughtful reimagining of Norse legends in a contemporary setting.

8

‘Disenchantment’ (2018–2023)

Disenchantment still featuring main characters in a steam-powered vehicle.

This ironically enchanting watch is probably one of Netflix’s most underrated adult animated series ever. Set in the wondrous medieval kingdom of Dreamland, Disenchantment follows the wild, rebellious, alcoholic Princess Bean (Abbi Jacobson) as she and her odd companions navigate magical conspiracies, chaotic adventures, and complex family dynamics.

With a compelling combo of sharp humor and thrilling fantasy, Disenchantment delivers a quirky series that deserves far more attention than it’s ever received. The show is a unique watch that leans more into a slower, serialized fantasy with a surprisingly melancholic tone, which is actually very entertaining for an animated series. Disenchantment may not be what most viewers would expect from an animated fantasy, which has led to a lack of consistent viewership, but the show’s willingness to take risks and tell a more layered story makes it an underrated good-time that is heavily appreciated by diehard fantasy fans.

Sydney Sweeney, Scooter Braun Attend Stagecoach 2026 Together

Published

on

Sydney Sweeney Seen on Scooter Brauns Shoulders at Stagecoach

Sydney Sweeney had a great view of singer-songwriter Ella Langley’s set at Stagecoach 2026 courtesy of her boyfriend, Scooter Braun.

Viral footage showed the Euphoria star, 28, sitting on Braun’s shoulders and rocking out while Langley performed at the Indio, California, country music festival on Friday, April 24. Sweeney sang along to the music and even smiled at the person filming the now-viral moment.

Sweeney was also seen taking in BigXthaPlug’s set at Stagecoach’s Mustang Stage on Friday, where she interacted with fans and posed for photos from the front row, per USA Today.

Us Weekly has reached out to representatives for Sweeney and Braun for comment.

The couple were first spotted together last June when they both attended Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s star-studded wedding in Venice, Italy. A source exclusively told Us in June 2025 that Sweeney was “not exclusively dating anyone right now but is having fun with Scooter.”

“It is not serious,” the insider added. “[She is] dating around and in her single era without having any pressure.”

The source indicated that Braun, 44, was “very into” Sweeney and had “been trying to see her in between her work commitments.” (Braun was previously married to health activist Yael Cohen Braun from 2014 to 2022. They share three children: sons Jagger and Levi, 11 and 9 respectively, and daughter Hart, 7.)

The romance seemed to heat up last autumn, when they attended a Halloween event together and Braun attended Sweeney’s space-themed birthday party.

Us exclusively learned in October that the new romance was completely different for Sweeney than anything she’d experienced with past partners.

“They are dating and it has become more serious. Still not putting a label on it, but Sydney has been having a lot of fun with Scooter,” an insider told Us. “It has been low-pressure for both of them and has been a different relationship for Sydney. Scooter has introduced her to new perspectives, especially when it comes to business.”

Earlier this month, Braun packed on the PDA with Sweeney when he accompanied her to the Euphoria season 3 world premiere at Hollywood’s historic TCL Chinese Theatre. Us reported at the time that Sweeney and the music manager had progressed to a “committed” relationship.

“They are the real deal, and their relationship has become very serious,” a source told Us. “People around them thought that this would be just a fling, but they are committed.”

Sydney Sweeney and Scooter Braun sparked dating rumors after spending time together in Venice. Sweeney and Braun were first linked in September 2025 after a video of the pair attending Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s lavish Italy wedding that June started circulating online. At the time, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that Sweeney is […]

The insider added, “[Sweeney] really appreciates Scooter’s support with all her projects. [She] loves hearing his feedback. … [He is] emotionally invested in her career and wants the best for her.”

They finally went Instagram official on April 15, when Braun joked that he was a “lucky bastard” in the caption of a black-and-white photo of the two together.

HBO Max’s 7-Part Crime Thriller Is Officially One of Its Best Shows To Binge

Published

on

xhfafw9umomdc7jo25s9mpil4zs-1.jpg

Some shows arrive with a lot of noise, and some just sneak up on people until suddenly everybody’s talking about them at weird hours of the night. DTF St. Louis feels very much like the second kind. HBO Max’s darkly comic crime thriller has become one of the platform’s most-watched current shows, and it’s doing it with the kind of offbeat hook that makes viewers curious enough to keep going.

DTF St. Louis is sitting at No. 5 on HBO Max’s worldwide chart, and the day before it was even higher at No. 4. Its FlixPatrol title page also shows a strong overall run on the service, with the series spending weeks in the Top 10 and posting over 5,000 HBO Max points in its recent performance window.

That kind of momentum makes sense for a show that mixes mystery, dysfunction, and a little bit of pure “what on earth is going on here?” energy. It’s weird enough to feel different, but structured enough to stay bingeable, which is basically the perfect combo for late-night streaming. HBO Max has had no shortage of big-ticket titles lately, but DTF St. Louis has carved out its own lane by being messy, intriguing, and just unpredictable enough that stopping after one episode feels unlikely. At this point, it’s not just a niche favorite. It’s a real chart player.

Your Fate Has Been Calculated
You’d Survive In…

Your answers point to the world your instincts were built for. This is the universe your temperament, your survival instincts, and your particular brand of stubbornness were made for.

The Resistance, Zion

The Matrix

You took the red pill a long time ago — probably before anyone offered it to you. You’re a systems thinker who can’t help but notice the seams in things.

  • You’re drawn to understanding how the system works before figuring out how to break it.
  • You’d find the Resistance, or it would find you — your instinct for spotting constructed realities is the machines’ worst nightmare.
  • You function best when you have access to information and the freedom to act on it.
  • The Matrix built an airtight prison. You’d be the one probing the walls for the door.

The Wasteland

Mad Max

The wasteland doesn’t reward the clever or the well-connected — it rewards those who are hard to kill and harder to break. That’s you.

  • You don’t need comfort, community, or a cause larger than the next horizon.
  • You need a vehicle, a clear threat, and enough fuel to outrun it — and you’re good at all three.
  • You are unsentimental enough to survive that world, and decent enough — just barely — to be something more than another raider.
  • In the wasteland, that distinction is everything.

Los Angeles, 2049

Blade Runner

You’d survive here because you know how to exist in moral grey areas without losing yourself completely.

  • You read people accurately, keep your circle small, and ask the questions others prefer not to answer.
  • In a city where humanity is a legal designation rather than a feeling, you hold onto something that keeps you functional.
  • You’re not a hero. But you’re not lost, either.
  • In Blade Runner’s world, that distinction is everything.

Arrakis

Dune

Arrakis is the most hostile environment in the known universe — and you are precisely the kind of person it rewards.

  • Patience, discipline, and political awareness are your core strengths — and on Arrakis, they’re survival tools.
  • You understand that the long game matters more than any single victory.
  • Others come to Dune and are consumed by it. You’d learn its logic and earn its respect.
  • In time, you wouldn’t just survive Arrakis — you’d begin to reshape it.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Star Wars

The galaxy far, far away is vast, loud, and in a constant state of violent political upheaval — and you wouldn’t have it any other way.

  • You find meaning in being part of something larger than yourself — a cause, a crew, a rebellion.
  • You’d gravitate toward the Rebellion, or the fringes, or whatever pocket of the galaxy still believes the Empire’s grip can be broken.
  • You fight — not because you have to, but because standing aside isn’t something you’re capable of.
  • In Star Wars, that willingness is what makes all the difference.

Is ‘DTF St. Louis’ Worth Watching?

Collider’s review stated that DTF St. Louis is at its best when it leans into its nasty, awkward, dark-comedy side. The series follows a messy affair, a suburban unraveling, and a murder that throws everything into chaos. On paper, that sounds like a strong setup, and for a lot of the show, it is. Aidan Kelley felt that the series kept switching between a sharp dark comedy and a more standard murder mystery, and the second part is much less interesting.

It’s a shame that the show’s murder-mystery elements slip too far into by-the-numbers territory, as the large bulk of DTF St. Louis is another sharply written and consistently engaging miniseries that HBO should be proud of. It has all the risky, dark humor that the network has become so famous for, as well as three phenomenal performances, and both of those elements alone are enough to recommend the show as the next weekly binge for fans of awkward, appropriately mean-spirited humor like Curb Your Enthusiasm and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. It may have its quirks, but DTF St. Louis is still worth swiping right on.

DTF St. Louis is streaming now.

She Spent $3,500 — Then Orders Stopped

Published

on

She Spent $3,500 With Sharod Simpson God Is Dope Clothing Brand — Then The Orders Stopped Coming.

Christian clothing brand “God Is Dope,” founded by Sharod Simpson, is under fire, allegedly for taking payments and ignoring customers. Now, consumers are speaking out, explaining that after placing their order, they received no tracking information, and got zero response from customer service.

So what’s really going on?

The Shade Room’s Justin Carter is looking into things on ‘TSR Investigates.’

Christian Clothing Brand “God Is Dope” Comes Under Fire

According to Carter, earlier this month, he received a message from customer Sharon West-Smith alleging that she had placed an order in February that was never received. This, allegedly, despite sending countless emails and voicemails.

“I have to say I’ve probably spent over $3,500 with them,” she told Carter. “…bought all of their collections. I love their brand, first of all… I’ve been ordering from them forever. But lately, I don’t know what’s going on.”

Per West-Smith, she followed up — and even mailed the company a letter. With no responses, she then began requesting refunds. Then, at some point, West-Smith located Sharod Simpson’s personal Instagram account. She shared her grievance and got a reply, but still no help.

Consumers Speak Out

At that point, Carter did a deep dive on the brand’s social media presence, locating comments that appear to have been ignored. Another customer who was highlighted: Catrillia Harris. Furthermore, Harris explained to Carter that it seemed like the more she ordered from the brand, the more it became unreliable. And eventually, she began having to dispute the transactions with her bank.

Scroll up to watch as consumers share their experiences and what they believe is happening with the “God Is Dope” company. Additionally, Carter speaks on an old clip of Sharod Simpson opening up about his company and its shortcomings. Lastly, Carter shares how the founder replied when TSR reached out to him for more answers.

In recent years, many miniseries have earned awards and acclaim, hailed by audiences and critics alike as some of the best shows of all time. A few of them, like Netflix’s Emmy-winning drama Adolescence, have even gone on to have a significant social impact, sparking important conversations about society’s most pressing issues. Based on Colson Whitehead’s eponymous 2016 novel, The Underground Railroad is a magical realist historical fantasy drama created and directed by Barry Jenkins. Set in the 1800s, the series reimagines the real-life Underground Railroad, the network of abolitionists who helped transport escaped slaves from the South to the North, as an actual subterranean train to freedom. Thuso Mbedu, Chase W. Dillon, Joel Edgerton, Fred Hechinger, Peter Mullan, Mychal-Bella Bowman, and Sheila Atim star in lead roles, with recurring characters played by Aaron Pierre, William Jackson Harper, Lily Rabe, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter, and more.

A mesmerizing series adapted from a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Underground Railroad was universally acclaimed when it premiered in May 2021. With stellar performances and an unflinching narrative, it’s a television masterpiece that’s equal parts beautiful, horrifying, and painfully human. The series earned several accolades, including seven Emmy nominations, a BAFTA, a Peabody Award, and the Golden Globe for Best Limited or Anthology Series or Television Film, but it’s still sorely underwatched these days.

‘Small Axe’ (2020)

Franklyn and Martha on the street looking in the same direciton in Small Axe: Lovers Rock Image via Amazon Prime Video

A British anthology series that includes five films set across three decades, Small Axe was created and directed by Steve McQueen and explores the history of West Indian immigrants in London. Each of the films follows a separate story set against the backdrop of real-life events that happened in the 1960s, ’70s, and ’80s. The anthology is brought to life by an ensemble cast that includes the likes of Letitia Wright, John Boyega, Malachi Kirby, Micheal Ward, Shaun Parkes, and more.

Small Axe premiered three of its episodes at the 2020 New York Film Festival and screened two at the Cannes Film Festival the same year, earning critical acclaim from both. A powerful, educational, and unapologetic series that movingly chronicles the political and personal experiences of London’s West Indian community, all five of these films have earned universal acclaim, as has the anthology as a whole. Though it isn’t quite as well-known internationally as it ought to be, the series garnered several accolades, including a Golden Globe, a Peabody Award, and six BAFTAs out of 15 nominations.

Created, written, and directed by Alex Garland, Devs is a sci-fi thriller miniseries that revolves around a ground-breaking quantum computing project and its enigmatic founder, Forest (Nick Offerman). Sonoya Mizuno stars as Lily Chan, a software engineer working at Forest’s tech company, who is pulled into a complex and dangerous investigation after the mysterious death of her boyfriend. The show also features Jin Ha, Zach Grenier, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Cailee Spaeny, Karl Glusman, and Alison Pill in lead roles.

A truly mindboggling work of science fiction, Devs is a fascinating Silicon Valley thriller that explores themes of free will vs. determinism and the very nature of reality. A highly imaginative sci-fi drama, the series received four Emmy nominations and earned praise from critics and viewers alike for its cinematography, performances, writing, and direction. It’s a rather dense and complicated story, which may be why it hasn’t quite gotten the attention it deserves from wider audiences, but it’s also one of the best sci-fi shows of all time.

Tulsa King

⚖️
Mayor of Kingstown

You are a Dutton — or you might as well be. You understand that some things are worth protecting at any cost, and that the modern world’s indifference to history, to land, to legacy, is not something you’re willing to accept quietly. You lead from the front, you carry your family’s weight without complaint, and when someone threatens what’s yours, you don’t escalate — you finish it. You’re not cruel. But you are absolute. In Yellowstone’s world, that combination of ferocity and loyalty doesn’t make you a villain. It makes you the only thing standing between everything that matters and everyone who wants to take it.

You thrive in the chaos of high-stakes negotiation, where the money is enormous, the margins are thin, and the wrong word in the wrong room can cost everyone everything. You’re a fixer — the person called when a situation is already on fire and needs someone with the nerve to walk into it. West Texas oil country rewards exactly what you are: sharp, adaptable, unsentimental, and absolutely clear-eyed about what people want and what they’ll do to get it. You’re not naive enough to think this world is fair. You’re smart enough to be the one deciding who it’s fair to.

You are a Dwight Manfredi — someone who has served their time, paid their dues, and arrived somewhere unexpected with nothing but their reputation and their wits. You adapt without losing yourself. You build loyalty through respect rather than fear, though you’re not above reminding people that the two aren’t mutually exclusive. Tulsa King is for people who are still standing when everyone assumed they’d be finished — who find, in an unfamiliar place, that they’re more capable than the world gave them credit for. You don’t need a throne. You build one, wherever you happen to land.

You carry the weight of a system that is broken by design, and you do it anyway — because someone has to, and because you’re the only one positioned to do it without the whole thing collapsing. Mike McLusky’s world is for people who are comfortable operating where there are no good options, only less catastrophic ones. You speak every language: law enforcement, criminal, political, human. That fluency makes you invaluable and it makes you a target. You’ve made your peace with both. Mayor of Kingstown belongs to people who understand that keeping the peace is not the same as being at peace — and who do the job regardless.

A romantic drama limited series, One Day is an adaptation of the eponymous 2009 novel by David Nicholls, previously adapted as a 2011 film. The series version stars Ambika Mod and Leo Woodall as Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew, two people from vastly different backgrounds who meet shortly after graduating from the University of Edinburgh and continue to catch up with each other on the same day every year for the next 20 years. The show also features Eleanor Tomlinson, Essie Davis, Tim McInnerny, Toby Stephens, and more in supporting roles.

Released on Netflix just in time for Valentine’s Day 2024, One Day was a huge hit with streaming audiences at the time, but it’s far more than just an easily forgotten seasonal series. A sweeping, romantic story exploring intricate personal dynamics over a lifetime, the show is a grounded and heartwarming journey that’s enjoyable no matter the time of year. Though still a bit underrated outside of genre circles, One Day has earned praise from critics and fans for its writing, direction, and performances, especially those of its two leads.

Written and directed by Hugo Blick, The English is a revisionist Western miniseries starring Emily Blunt and Chaske Spencer. The show follows Englishwoman Lady Cornelia Locke (Blunt), who arrives in the American West in 1890 seeking revenge on the man responsible for her son’s death, finding an unlikely ally in ex-cavalry scout Eli Whipp (Spencer), a member of the Pawnee Nation. Rafe Spall, Tom Hughes, Stephen Rea, Valerie Pachner, Toby Jones, Ciaran Hinds, and more appear in recurring roles.

Easily one of the most underrated Western shows of recent years, The English may not have received the mainstream attention it deserves, but it did earn highly positive reviews from critics at the time of its release. A visually stunning drama anchored by the highly compelling performances of its lead stars, it’s an ambitious Western series that’s a delight to watch even when its plot runs into the occasional rough patch. The show garnered nominations for five British Academy Television Awards, winning the award for Best Costume Design, and Emily Blunt’s performance earned her a SAG Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series.

‘A Very English Scandal’ (2018)

Paul Freeman and Ben Whishaw in A Very English Scandal (2018)

A dramatized exploration of the real-life 1970s Thorpe scandal, A Very English Scandal is a British historical drama miniseries created and written by Russell T. Davies and based on John Preston‘s eponymous 2016 book. Hugh Grant stars as Liberal Party MP Jeremy Thorpe, who tries to get his former lover Norman (Ben Whishaw) killed for the sake of his political career. The show also stars Alex Jennings, Patricia Hodge, Monica Dolan, Paul Hilton, Jonathan Hyde, and more in key roles.

Though it isn’t quite as widely discussed as it used to be, A Very English Scandal was quite popular when it premiered in 2018, earning highly positive reviews from critics and viewers. The show was awarded four BAFTAs out of 12 nominations, and its success led to the production of two more based-on-truth miniseries, A Very British Scandal (2021) and A Very Royal Scandal (2024). Anchored by its stellar performances, A Very English Scandal is a thoroughly engaging watch that may not be all that historically accurate but is still very entertaining in its exploration of sex, ambition, politics, and systemic homophobia.

‘The Little Drummer Girl’ (2018)

The-Little-Drummer-Girl-Florence-Pugh

Based on John le Carré’s eponymous 1983 novel, The Little Drummer Girl is a British spy drama miniseries directed by Park Chan-wook. Set in 1979, the show stars Florence Pugh as a young aspiring actress who is recruited by Mossad agents to infiltrate a Palestinian group. Michael Shannon and Alexander Skarsgård co-star as the Israeli agents running the operation, with Michael Moshonov, Simona Brown, Clare Holman, and Charles Dance in other lead roles.

A gripping geopolitical thriller that presents a nuanced and layered picture of the Israel-Palestine conflict, The Little Drummer Girl is a show that has taken on greater significance in light of the present political climate. A masterpiece of writing, direction, acting, and production, this slow-burning spy drama keeps things suspenseful while exploring the lasting impact of British foreign policy in the Middle East and the morally ambiguous motivations of characters on both sides. The series earned near-universal acclaim when it first premiered in 2018, and though it’s not as talked-about these days, it’s easily one of the most absorbing John le Carré adaptations ever made.

‘Lovecraft Country’ (2020)

jurnee-smollett-lovecraft-country-social

Inspired by Matt Ruff’s eponymous 2016 novel, Lovecraft Country is a horror drama series developed by Misha Green that serves as a continuation of the book rather than a direct adaptation. Jonathan Majors stars as Atticus Black, a young Black man traveling across 1950s America in search of his missing father with his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett) and his uncle George (Courtney B. Vance). In the process, they face both the human horrors of racism and segregation and terrifying monsters pulled from the pages of H.P. Lovecraft.

Lovecraft Country technically wasn’t planned as a miniseries, but it was sadly canceled after just one season. That one season, however, was highly acclaimed by critics and viewers, earning praise for its performances, writing, and historical narrative. Balancing social drama with riveting horror, this thrilling reimagining of Lovecraftian lore earned numerous accolades, including 18 Emmy nominations, and the series was named one of the top 10 TV shows of 2020 by the American Film Institute.

The duo connected for the NBA’s first-ever alley-oop bucket between a dad and his son during the Los Angeles Lakers’ 112-108 win over the Houston Rockets on Friday, April 24.

“He was calling for it,” LeBron said of the historic moment after the game. “I’ve seen his steps for so long, and he was gathering, and I was like, ‘Just go get it,’ so I was happy he was able to go up and reverse it.”

LeBron — who finished the game with 29 points and 13 rebounds — also called out the Rockets for allegedly showing “disrespect” towards his son in regards to Bronny’s three-point shooting skills.

“He also made a three when they tried to disrespect him and go under on a pick-and-roll,” LeBron told reporters. “He gave us great minutes; everybody who played gave us great minutes, but that was a special moment, obviously.”

He continued, “Young players, the amount of confidence that a young kid in our league can get from a postseason game. You would never get nervous from a regular-season moment ever again when you play meaningful postseason games in postseason minutes, and he’s done that, and I think that’s just pretty cool for his career, for his confidence.”
