Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Crucial Decision Made ‘Predator’ a Sci-Fi Horror Classic

Published

on

Elpidia Carrillo as Anna Gonsalves in 'Predator'

No actor was bigger in the 1980s and early 90s than Arnold Schwarzenegger. Movies like The Terminator, Commando, The Running Man, and Total Recall made him the king of action movies. One of his best films is the 1987 sci-fi horror classic Predator. Directed by John McTiernan (Die Hard, Last Action Hero), Predator is the quintessential 80s action thriller, complete with cool characters, bulging muscles, unforgettable one-liners, and a terrifying monster. How it’s remembered today almost didn’t happen. When 20th Century Fox came to Schwarzenegger with an unusual script request, the actor refused. If he hadn’t, the change would have completely altered Predator and ruined both its hero and villain.

Studio Executives Wanted Arnold Schwarzenegger to Have a Love Interest in ‘Predator’

By 1987, the 40-year-old Arnold Schwarzenegger had already established himself as the top action hero. However, following the huge success of The Terminator, the future California governor made a string of mediocre movies. Then came Predator. In the film, Schwarzenegger plays Dutch Schaefer, a mercenary who takes his team into the jungles of Central America, where they discover a villain worse than any gun-toting bad guy. Waiting for them is an alien being who has come to Earth to hunt human beings. One by one, Dutch’s team is taken out until only he and one survivor, a captured guerrilla named Anna (Elpidia Carrillo), remain. Anna doesn’t have a huge role in Predator, but if 20th Century Fox had gotten their way, her part would have been a disaster.

Decades ago, during an interview on The Arsenio Hall Show, Schwarzenegger told the talk show host about how studios often came to him and requested that he put a love interest in his films. The actor was against the idea “to throw a woman in just for the sake of having in to sell a few extra tickets.” This even happened during the shooting of Predator. Schwarzenegger told the studio executive who called him:

“So, I say, how do you expect me to do that? You know, here I am running through the jungle. The ten guys, ten of my soldier friends, are getting killed by this Predator that’s chasing us down, and he’s about to kill me. Do you want me to say to the girl, ‘Let’s go around the bush and have a little nookie here’?”

Arnold explained to the exec that such a scenario wouldn’t work. After the explanation, the caller agreed, telling the actor, “I guess you have a point.” With that, the preposterous idea was dropped.

Giving Dutch a Love Interest Would Have Ruined Dutch’s Character

Predator works by using the tropes of action movies and doing something more. Dutch is the epitome of cool. He’s all testosterone, as are the men in his crew, like Al Dillon (Carl Weathers) and Blain Cooper (Jesse Ventura). Predator gives us what we expect. The scene of Dutch and Dillon grasping arms, their biceps bulging, could come out of any Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone action flick of the era. There are a plethora of one-liners fans still quote today, and more guns than you can count. But as soon as the alien shows up, the switch is flipped, and a simple, high-octane action plot turns into sci-fi horror. After that, there is no time to stop or even slow down. A sophisticated alien with advanced technology is on their heels.

Dutch will get to da choppa one more time.

A love interest would have ruined Predator on multiple levels. It would have severely hurt the Dutch character. Next to his role in the Terminator franchise, Dutch is arguably Schwarzenegger’s most famous part. This is because the protagonist is badass and all business. He’s not only strong physically, but he’s also smarter than everyone else. This is what allows him to win in the end. If Dutch, out of nowhere, decided to let his hormones take over while he’s being pursued by an alien, it would have shown that the character isn’t so smart after all, and would put his and Anna’s lives on the line simply to get laid. Dutch is memorable because he only has one thing on his mind: his and Anna’s survival. Anything else, and he becomes the opposite of the hero the plot requires.

The Alien Monster in ‘Predator’ Loses Its Fear Factor With This Scene

Predator - 1987 Image via 20th Century Fox

Even worse is what a love interest subplot would have done to the alien antagonist. Played by the 7’2″ Kevin Peter Hall, and designed by Stan Winston, the Predator is one of the most uniquely terrifying villains in sci-fi horror history, even before the mask comes off. The creature is immensely intimidating, and it’s going to take an incredible effort to defeat its superior strength and technology. If Dutch and Anna stop running away from it to have sex in the bushes, they’re telling the audience the alien is not that big of a threat. If they don’t care, why should we?

Thankfully, Schwarzenegger doesn’t just make movies to get rich and be a star. He truly cares about the script and the art of filmmaking. If he were a yes man who did whatever he was told for a paycheck, Predator wouldn’t be the classic it is today, and an entire franchise may never have happened. At the same time, his name already carried so much weight in 1987 that 20th Century Fox easily gave in when he stood up to them. In the end, Predator succeeds because of its relentless action and horror. Dutch is the perfect 80s hero being hunted down by the perfect villain. All that matters is killing the monster and saving the day, nothing more.

11 Years Later, Taylor Sheridan’s Brutal Crime Thriller Is Officially Taking Over the World

Published

on

01346993_poster_w780-1.jpg

As Taylor Sheridan continues to oversee the largest and most impressive empire on television, he has already released some of the most popular projects of the year over on Paramount Plus. Sheridan has further expanded the Yellowstone universe with a pair of offshoots, Marshals and Dutton Ranch, but the latter has been met with a much more welcoming reception than the former. Still, both shows return long-time Yellowstone stars like Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton and Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler, and both have been picked up for new seasons. Sheridan fans were also treated to some good news last week when it was announced that his black ops spy thriller, Lioness, will officially return to streaming this August. The same can’t be said for Landman, which likely won’t air until sometime in 2027.

While Sheridan has become known by most fans these days for his work with the Yellowstone universe and other shows like Tulsa King and Mayor of Kingstown, he began his career with some of the greatest neo-Western thrillers to ever hit the big screen. His debut screenplay came all the way back in 2015 with Sicario, which is still hailed as some of his finest work even to this day. The film stars Josh Brolin and Emily Blunt, and it made quick work of a $30 million budget, grossing nearly $85 million at the global box office. 11 years after Sicario first hit theaters, the film is now available to stream on Hulu for all subscribers, where it has had several stints in the top 10. It’s also a VOD smash on platforms such as Prime Video and Apple TV, where it can be rented for as low as $2.99.

Tulsa King

⚖️
Mayor of Kingstown

You are a Dutton — or you might as well be. You understand that some things are worth protecting at any cost, and that the modern world’s indifference to history, to land, to legacy, is not something you’re willing to accept quietly. You lead from the front, you carry your family’s weight without complaint, and when someone threatens what’s yours, you don’t escalate — you finish it. You’re not cruel. But you are absolute. In Yellowstone’s world, that combination of ferocity and loyalty doesn’t make you a villain. It makes you the only thing standing between everything that matters and everyone who wants to take it.

You thrive in the chaos of high-stakes negotiation, where the money is enormous, the margins are thin, and the wrong word in the wrong room can cost everyone everything. You’re a fixer — the person called when a situation is already on fire and needs someone with the nerve to walk into it. West Texas oil country rewards exactly what you are: sharp, adaptable, unsentimental, and absolutely clear-eyed about what people want and what they’ll do to get it. You’re not naive enough to think this world is fair. You’re smart enough to be the one deciding who it’s fair to.

You are a Dwight Manfredi — someone who has served their time, paid their dues, and arrived somewhere unexpected with nothing but their reputation and their wits. You adapt without losing yourself. You build loyalty through respect rather than fear, though you’re not above reminding people that the two aren’t mutually exclusive. Tulsa King is for people who are still standing when everyone assumed they’d be finished — who find, in an unfamiliar place, that they’re more capable than the world gave them credit for. You don’t need a throne. You build one, wherever you happen to land.

You carry the weight of a system that is broken by design, and you do it anyway — because someone has to, and because you’re the only one positioned to do it without the whole thing collapsing. Mike McLusky’s world is for people who are comfortable operating where there are no good options, only less catastrophic ones. You speak every language: law enforcement, criminal, political, human. That fluency makes you invaluable and it makes you a target. You’ve made your peace with both. Mayor of Kingstown belongs to people who understand that keeping the peace is not the same as being at peace — and who do the job regardless.

What Is ‘Sicario’ About?

The official synopsis for Sicario, which holds scores of 91% from critics and 85% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, reads as follows:

“When idealistic FBI agent Kate Macer uncovers a cartel massacre in Arizona, she’s recruited into a shadowy government task force. Thrust into the lawless borderlands between the U.S. and Mexico, she must navigate a world of moral compromise — where the line between justice and vengeance no longer exists.”

When it comes time to analyze Sicario’s success, it’s hard not to credit Denis Villeneuve, who was the perfect choice to direct Sheridan’s neo-Western script. Villeneuve has also gone on to direct near-perfect sci-fi epics like Arrival and Dune: Part Two, and he’s been tasked with directing the next James Bond movie.

Check out Sicario on Hulu in America, and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates and coverage of Taylor Sheridan’s future projects.

Anya Taylor-Joy’s Sci-Fi Sequel Just Became 2026’s First Billion-Dollar Movie

Published

on

the-super-mario-galaxy-movie-poster.jpg

The current box office landscape might be obsessed with horror — quite literally, in the case of Curry Barker‘s record-breaking new hit — but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for other genres to reach success. The cozy Sheep Detectives continues to prove a popular hit for families, Masters of the Universe is a wonderfully nostalgic option for those seeking a summer blockbuster, and Antoine Fuqua’s musical biopic, Michael, edges closer to the $900 million mark.

However, the success of some genres seems not to be rubbing off on sci-fi, with the latest entry in the grandest sci-fi franchise of them all, Pedro Pascal‘s The Mandalorian and Grogu, in box office freefall, having dropped to sixth place in the domestic charts on just its third weekend, earning less than 1/8 of its opening haul. Thankfully, as one sci-fi effort fails to impress, another has just reached its biggest milestone yet.

At the time of writing, the video game adaptation sequel The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has officially crossed the billion-dollar mark at the box office. Ten weekends into its theatrical run and about to bow out for good, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has finally become the first billion-dollar movie of 2026. This couldn’t come at a better time for the movie, with a selection of blockbuster names on their way this summer, including Christopher Nolan‘s ambitious epic The Odyssey, Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fifth installment in the beloved Toy Story franchise, the high-flying Supergirl, and much more.

Arrakis · Dune

Paul Atreides

You carry a weight most people would crumble under — the knowledge of what you’re capable of, and the burden of what you might have to become.

  • You see further ahead than others and you plan accordingly, even when the vision frightens you.
  • You are driven by loyalty to your people and a sense of destiny you didn’t ask for but can’t escape.
  • Paul Atreides is not simply a hero — he is someone who understands the cost of power and chooses to bear it anyway.
  • That gravity, that willingness to carry what others won’t, is exactly you.

USS Enterprise · Star Trek

Captain Kirk

You lead with instinct, warmth, and an absolute refusal to accept a no-win scenario — because you’ve always believed there’s a third option nobody else has thought of yet.

  • You take the mission seriously without ever taking yourself too seriously.
  • Your crew would follow you anywhere, not because you demand it, but because you’ve earned it.
  • Kirk’s genius isn’t tactical — it’s human. He reads people, bends rules with purpose, and wills outcomes into existence through sheer conviction.
  • That combination of warmth, audacity, and relentless optimism is unmistakably yours.

The Rebellion · Star Wars

Princess Leia

You are the kind of person who holds the line when everyone else is losing faith — not because you’re fearless, but because giving up simply isn’t something you’re capable of.

  • You lead through conviction. Your voice carries because your belief is unshakeable.
  • You gave up everything ordinary the moment you chose the cause, and you’ve never looked back.
  • Leia is not a supporting character in her own story — she is the moral centre of the entire rebellion.
  • That same fierce, principled, unbreakable core is what defines you.

The Nostromo · Alien

Ellen Ripley

You are not reckless, not grandiose, and not particularly interested in being anyone’s hero — you just refuse to stop when it matters.

  • You see threats clearly, you document the truth even when no one listens, and when the time comes you handle it yourself.
  • Ripley’s heroism is earned, not performed. She doesn’t have a speech — she has a flamethrower and a plan.
  • You share her composure under the worst possible pressure, and her refusal to pretend the monster isn’t there.
  • When it counts, you don’t flinch. That’s everything.

The Wasteland · Mad Max

Max Rockatansky

You have been through fire that would break most people — and what came out the other side is something the world underestimates at its peril.

  • You don’t ask for help, don’t need validation, and don’t wait for anyone to tell you the rules no longer apply.
  • Your loyalty, when it finally arrives, is absolute — but it’s earned in silence and tested in action, not in words.
  • Max is not a nihilist. He is someone who lost everything and found, against his will, that he still has something worth protecting.
  • That bruised, stubborn, ultimately human core is exactly yours.

Tyra Banks Files Lawsuit Against Netflix After ‘ANTM’ Documentary

Tyra Banks Reportedly Files Lawsuit Against Netflix Following Release Of America's Next Top Model Documentary

Tyra Banks just took serving to a whole NEW level. The model and producer has reportedly filed a lawsuit against Netflix following her participation in their ‘Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model’ docuseries.

Tyra Banks Comes For Netflix After ‘ANTM’ Docuseries Release

According to TMZ, Tyra Banks is suing Netflix for defamation. She filed the documents on Saturday, June 13, and alleges that Netflix used only 16 minutes of her over three-hour interview and manipulated the footage to push a false, defamatory narrative. PEOPLE reports that she is now seeking a jury trial to determine the amount of damages she should receive.

“Tyra Banks participated in the Netflix documentary series America’s Next Top Model (‘ANTM’) because she believed viewers deserved a candid conversation about the show’s legacy—its successes and its shortcomings,” the lawsuit reportedly states. “There are aspects of the show for which Ms. Banks takes accountability and she wanted ANTM viewers to hear that from her directly.”

In the suit, Banks also reportedly calls out two partially true statements from Mar Loushy, one of the directors and executive producers of the series. She says Loushy claimed she would have the “opportunity to go really deep into the debates” about ‘ANTM’ and “to share her side of the story.” In another interview, Loushy added, “Ms. Banks was ready to speak, and I think that a lot of her answers were very honest. And it’s all in the show, really.” However, ‘Reality Check’ director Kay Wicker told TheGrio that the documentary was going to happen whether Tyra participated or not.

More About The ‘America’s Next Top Model’ Documentary

The ‘America’s Next Top Model’ documentary took over Netflix when it dropped in February, giving viewers the opportunity to revisit the early days of the show. The series also unpacked topics like cycle 2 contestant Shandi Sullivan’s sexual assault. Sullivan recalled the moment when the models were in Italy and male models came over their house. She consumed alcohol before getting in bed with one of the men, despite having a boyfriend back at home at the time. Sullivan said she blacked out during the incident and later accused the production team of framing it as a cheating scandal instead of assault. When asked about the situation in ‘Reality Check,’ Tyra said she had no involvement in production or the editing of storylines.

Emily Ratajkowski Makes Shocking Sex Confession Amid Split

Published

on

Emily Ratajkowski at 13th Annual LACMA Art + Film Gala 2024

Emily Ratajkowski is opening up like never before about the emotional fallout of her divorce, her fears surrounding single motherhood, and the dating phase that followed, which she now describes as an intentional reinvention of herself.

In a candid new essay, the model and actress reflected on the collapse of her marriage to ex-husband Sebastian Bear-McClard and the whirlwind romantic chapter that followed, during which she was linked to everyone from Harry Styles and Pete Davidson to DJ Orazio Rispo and Eric Andre.

Emily Ratajkowski also made a shocking confession about her sex life following the split, admitting she set out to transform herself after years of trying to fit into what she believed men wanted.

Ratajkowski and Bear-McClard tied the knot during a courthouse wedding in 2018 and welcomed son Sylvester Apollo Bear in March 2021. But according to the 35-year-old, cracks in the relationship began appearing shortly after becoming parents.

In the essay for The Cut, she wrote that “in a time period that felt both instant and excruciatingly slow, my marriage collapsed. Six months after my son was born, my husband and I stopped having sex. Less than a year later, we separated.”

The pair officially split in 2022 amid rumors surrounding Bear-McClard’s alleged infidelity. Ratajkowski appeared to fuel speculation herself after reportedly liking a tweet that read, “can’t believe that little b-tch cheated on emrata.”

Bear-McClard, a film producer known for collaborating with the Safdie brothers and producing projects including “Uncut Gems,” later found himself facing controversy of his own. In March 2023, reports surfaced that he had faced “grooming” allegations and was fired from the Safdie brothers’ production company, Elara Pictures.

At the same time, he was reportedly navigating mediation with the Safdies, in addition to divorce proceedings and a custody battle with Ratajkowski.

While navigating the public unraveling of her marriage, Ratajkowski admitted one of the hardest parts was how people viewed her after the breakup.

“I hated the condescending way people looked at me in the wake of my breakup. Their furrowed brows, the pity in their faces as they delivered an ‘I’m so sorry, Emily,’” she confessed. “I couldn’t stand my pathetic reflection in their eyes. They saw me as someone who was unwanted, who had been left. A reject with the burden of a needy, hungry, two-foot-tall sidekick.”

The actress revealed she had long feared becoming a “single mom,” writing that the idea had terrified her since childhood because she associated it with having “no freedom, no choices, no emergency exit.” But when she unexpectedly found herself living the reality she once feared, Ratajkowski said she reinvented herself into someone entirely different.

Following her split, Ratajkowski entered what she described as a period of “compulsively dating,” adopting what she framed as a villain-like persona in an effort to regain control.

“The character I’d learned to embody after my divorce, in my period of compulsively dating, was a villain: Poison Ivy. Catwoman. Sexual but scary. And she drank gin martinis. Many, many gin martinis,” she wrote. “She was not tragic. Nothing close to a victim. No one needed to feel sorry for her. In fact, they should all be jealous.”

The “I Feel Pretty” actress admitted her post-divorce phase marked a dramatic departure from how she previously approached relationships. Before her marriage ended, she said she had only slept with “eight people,” all of whom she was “pretty sure would fall in love with me, because I wanted to feel precious.”

She reflected on long-held beliefs surrounding relationships and intimacy, explaining she once believed men “didn’t fall in love with, want forever with, raise babies with, or take care of sl-ts.”

Eventually, however, she said she decided to embrace an entirely different version of herself. “I decided to f-ck my way into a new kind of woman. I wanted to destroy the Madonna, the special girl I’d worked so hard to be before an eight-pound baby had torn my v-gina in two, and replace her with the wh-re,” Ratajkowski wrote.

Ratajkowski Shares Explicit Details About Her Dating Life

The model also offered readers an unfiltered look into her dating experiences following the divorce, including one particularly explicit encounter with a man she described as having a “nasally stoner voice” and wearing “bright hoodies” with “obnoxious gold jewelry” that made him resemble a “walking, talking Myspace page.”

After returning to his apartment, Ratajkowski admitted she “found myself on my knees in front of him” and felt “especially satisfied by his expression when he looked down at me.” “He couldn’t believe I was putting his d-ck in my mouth. He told me I looked like Cleopatra when I gave head. I’d found everything I’d come there for, a praying mantis devouring her mate,” she wrote.

Her first post-divorce date, however, apparently went far less smoothly. According to Ratajkowski, she went out with a sober DJ who lived near what had once been her marital home. She claimed the man bizarrely opened the date by explaining incest “actually runs in my family,” before sharing a story involving his mother and sister walking in on him masturbating to p-rn he described as “some sibling sh-t.”

“That was my introduction to the dating scene. I didn’t f-ck him, okay?” she wrote, later acknowledging he was “an anomaly.”

She also described one fling with an “Elder Millennial” her friends called “ugly,” explaining she tolerated his “dirty talk” because she enjoyed the confidence boost of being wanted more than she wanted him.

Ratajkowski further revealed that she came to believe “many men are turned on by motherhood” because they had “experienced the loneliness that comes with years of selfishness” and were “attracted” to “self-sacrifice.”

“Did they want me as their mommy? Maybe,” she added.

Now, through her essay, Ratajkowski appears to finally be reclaiming the narrative around one of the most scrutinized chapters of her personal life.

Paramount’s Most Underrated Crime Fantasy Is Climbing Another Streamer’s Charts 3 Years Later

Only once in a while does a truly great fantasy film come out, and tragically, for one essential crime story, it went tragically underwatched at the box office. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves had absolutely everything going for it, if only people actually went to the theater and watched it. Never before had there been a live-action movie that perfectly exemplified the feeling of playing a D&D campaign while also not expecting anyone to have to know the rules to enjoy it.

Stranger Things had already made D&D appealing in the eyes of Hollywood, and a true translation of the game was the logical next step. Honor Among Thieves follows Edgin, a single-father bard who turns to crime to raise his daughter, Kira (Chloe Coleman). Chris Pine is at his best as the leader of a ragtag group of thieves in a story that just happens to have fantasy elements pulled from D&D lore. Directing team John Francis Daly and Jonathan Goldestein implement the charming mechanics of the game in a way that doesn’t feel overwhelming. At its heart, Honor Among Thieves is more than just a D&D game. It is a hidden gem of a fantasy film, all about character.

‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ Is A Fantastical Found Family Story

All the great fantasy narratives have one thing in common: character is king. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves wouldn’t be nearly as charming or engaging without the lovable characters powering the story forward. Edgin has one of the most relatable character motivations, as everything he does is to protect Kira from harm. He amasses a ragtag crew to perform heists when something goes terribly awry.

You carry something heavy — and you carry it alone, even when you don’t have to. You were not born for greatness, and that is precisely why greatness chose you. Your courage is not the roaring, sword-swinging kind; it is quiet, stubborn, and terrifying in its refusal to quit. The Ring weighs on you more than anyone can see, and still you walk toward the fire. That is not weakness. That is the rarest kind of strength there is.

You are, without question, the best of them. Not the most powerful, not the most celebrated — but the most essential. Your loyalty is not a trait; it is a force of nature. You would carry the person you love up the slopes of Mount Doom if it came to that, and we both know you’d do it without being asked. The world needs more people like you, and the world is lucky it has even one.

You were born to lead, and you have spent years running from it. The crown is yours by right, but you know better than anyone that right means nothing without the will and the worthiness to back it up. You are tempered by loss, shaped by long roads, and defined by a code of honour you hold to even when no one is watching. When you finally step forward, the world shifts. Because it was always waiting for you.

You have seen more than you let on, and you say less than you know — which is exactly as it should be. You are a catalyst: you do not fight the battles yourself, you ignite the people who can. Your wisdom comes not from books but from an age of watching what happens when it is ignored. You arrive precisely when you mean to, and your presence alone changes what is possible. A wizard is never late.

Graceful, perceptive, and almost preternaturally calm under pressure — you see things others miss and act before others react. You do not need to make a scene to be remarkable; your presence speaks for itself. You are loyal to those you choose to stand beside, and that choice is not made lightly. You have lived long enough to know that the most beautiful things in this world are also the most fragile, and that is why you fight to protect them.

You are loud, proud, and absolutely formidable — and beneath all of that is one of the most fiercely loyal hearts in Middle-earth. You don’t do anything by half measures. Your friendships are forged like iron, your grudges run as deep as mines, and your courage in battle is the kind that makes legends. You came into this fellowship suspicious of everyone and ended it willing to die for an elf. That is not a small thing. That is everything.

You think in centuries and act in absolutes. Order, dominion, control — not because you are cruel by nature, but because you have decided that the world left to itself always falls apart, and you are the only one with the vision and the will to hold it together. You were not always this. Something was lost, or taken, or betrayed, and the version of you that stands now is the answer to that wound. The tragedy is that you’re not entirely wrong — just entirely too far gone to course-correct.

You are a study in contradiction — pitiable and dangerous, cunning and broken, capable of both cruelty and something that once resembled love. You are defined by loss: of innocence, of self, of the one thing that gave your existence meaning. Two voices war inside you constantly, and the tragedy is that the better one sometimes wins, just not often enough, and never at the right moment. You are a warning, yes — but also a mirror. We are all a little Gollum, given the right ring and enough time.

He and the admirable brawler, Holga (Michelle Rodriguez), are sent to prison but escape with the hope of winning back Kira’s trust. The story is ultimately a tale about family set in a fantastical world. Edgin has to contend with his guilt over not being a model father. His obsession with bringing his dead wife back to life supersedes what his daughter’s real needs are, a conclusion that the entire movie builds toward.

Honor Among Thieves is a heartfelt redemption story that is made even better by its tone. Self-serious fantasy films are about a dime a dozen, but this narrative houses its story about family in a hilarious way that D&D fans can enjoy. The main drive of the story surrounds Edgin bringing the band back together for one final score.

‘Dungeons & Dragons’ Is the Best Fantasy Heist Film

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves works on several levels, but its rewatch value is dependent on a hilarious twist on the heist genre. Edgin must devise a plan to win his daughter back, and through a series of wacky happenstances, he can only do this by pulling off a robbery. He enlists his previous cohorts, which include a Barbarian, a Tiefling druid, and the worst sorcerer of all time. This setup appeals to many D&D players because of how much it aligns with real campaigns. These devised backstories are typical of an enjoyable campaign that often veers into straight-up comedy.

Hugh Grant is also a standout in the heist fantasy as Forge, a con man who throws the main party for a loop. After doing so many rom-coms in his career, Grant is genuinely hilarious as a character who swings to the other side of the spectrum. Like his villainous role in Heretic, Grant pulls off a morally complex character while contributing some of the best line deliveries of the entire film. This all coincides with the final set piece of the haphazard crew pulling off a heist while also endangering their lives.

Honor Among Thieves picks up where great adventure films like The Mummy left off. Humor, fantastical elements, and crime are all at play in a story that is finally gaining traction. Viewers who missed it the first time around – or returning fans who simply can’t get enough – can stream the underrated film on Pluto. The free-to-stream platform is perfect for finding treasures that didn’t get their due the first time around. This one in particular is just as funny and engaging as it was in 2023 when it first premiered.

Deiondra Sanders’ Fans Show Love After Jacquees, Dreezy Tweets

Published

Deiondra Sanders Comment Section Supporters Jacquees Rebound Livestream Dreezy History

On Thursday (June 11), Deiondra Sanders was trending after her apparent reaction to what Jacquees said about their past. In a conversation with Jordyn Lucas, the R&B singer admitted that his heart wasn’t fully over Dreezy when he began dating Deiondra. Sanders later seemed to address the interview, making subtle references to him and Dreezy.

In the days since, her supporters have continued to flood her comment section with compassion.  And while Deiondra’s gone silent, Dreezy appeared to drop some subliminals of her own following her ex-boyfriend’s interview.

Deiondra Sanders Ends Tweet Session About Jacquees With Vulnerable Posts

Four tweets on Thursday (June 11) had all eyes on Deiondra Sanders’ X account. The first tweet that day was about her and Jacquees’ son, Snow, growing up and learning “the truth for himself.” About 12 hours later, she circled back and shared a more pointed message that still didn’t explicitly name her ex. She wrote of people reminding her she could’ve had anybody, but clarified that she doesn’t use money to determine who she should date. “The truth is, I fell in love and was sold a dream, later to find out I was just a rebound,” Deiondra wrote. Her third tweet spoke of ignoring warnings about Jacquees, then seemed to reference a Dreezy song. That post got over 1.2 million views.

“I was so in love that I ignored every warning. My family tried to tell me. Even his ex tried to tell me. Matter of fact, she made a whole song about it, and I still convinced myself that what we had was real. I just feel hurt, disappointed, and honestly, I need some time. 💔”

Meanwhile, her final tweet read, “I take full accountability.” She hasn’t shared an X post since. The four-described tweets came as Jacquees was going viral for speaking openly about his love life in recent years. He and Deiondra have had public spats about coparenting, including as recently as a few weeks ago. And two years ago, his ex-GF Dreezy exposed Deiondra’s pregnancy and claimed that he was still on her line. In the Jordyn Lucas livestream this week, Jac admitted that he had convinced his mind he was over Dreezy, but not his heart. He also said his dream of being a dad “happened fast” with Deiondra and he thought he was doing the right thing by leaning into it.

“One thing I don’t regret is my son cause he’s everything. He my whole world, but I just want everyone to be in the world and be respected. I want Deiondra to be able to go places and people give her the respect she deserves, start businesses, provide for our son, be a great mother cause she is. I want Dreezy to be able to go in her career, do what she do,” Jacquees told Jordyn Lucas.

As previously reported, he proposed to Deiondra at their baby shower in July 2024. Early 2025, Sanders openly accused Dej Loaf of sparking distance in her engagement.

Supporters Flood Deiondra With Uplifting Messages

While Deiondra Sanders has ceased tweeting, she’s continued to share unrelated content on her Instagram Stories. Her IG feed also hasn’t had any updated content since June 7, which were photos of herself, smiling while holding a mug. It appears to be FashionNova promo, but the content type didn’t stop Deiondra’s supporters from flooding the comment section with love. Some fans even penned lengthy paragraphs encouraging Sanders to continue pushing forward!

@lurrraaasss said, “Hey girl, you’re making such great progress on your PP journey. Your feelings are completely valid & it’s ok to feel how you feel. & knowing your triggers can make a big difference (even if your bd is 1 of them). Just know its ok to protect your peace & set boundaries when YOU need to. Don’t let the internet or people clout chasing make you doubt yourself or feel like you’re less than. Hang in there! You’re doing better than you think 🫶🏾 it’s ok to forgive yourself too!”

“You have the right to express your feelings. Just keep going, this too shall pass. Trust it will. Your village loves you. Thank God for a father like yours, listen to him.💜💜💜,” @rawnie_mamba said.

@stellymagic commented, “@deiondrasanders, Beautiful as usual. Please know that you have a village, not just your family, but supporters that love you, your vulnerability & realness. All we can do in this life is keep striving to be better. No one is perfect, or has it all figured out. #TeamDeiondra is here always rooting for you. Hope you & our little internet nephew have a blessed weekend. 💕.”

“We love you girl, keep your head up & held high. This to shall pass ❤️,” @vickyfcknb wrote.

“💕💫 such a beautiful girl! I’m wish you nothing but peace and healing,” @theeprettiestgal_ added.

“Don’t get caught up in the rude and vile opinions of people whom haven’t walked a day in your shoes regardless of how you decide to vent and let your pain out. You’re a human being who does not deserve the public embarrassment even if it’s someone else’s truth. I’m sure you were seeking validation as to why things happened and did not expect to receive answers this way. Adjust your crown and continue to trust God. He’s gonna see you though and heal all of your pain. You are not less than. You’re surrounded by a loving family and lots of genuine supporters. Focus on the good while the good gets greater,” @myheartisacanvas_ wrote.

@_starrgur1_ added, “something your youngest brother said and was very wise “ if I had thought about every opinion and critique that was spoken and allow it to affect my decisions and choices , I would not be a CHILD OF GOD” . Jaquees sins against you were not your own and may the LORD CHRIST JESUS JUDGE BETWEEN THE BOTH OF YALL. But you are resilient . You are courageous and a force from HEAVEN to be RECKONED WITH. Another IG post of Deiondra’s is also flooded with similar messages that supporters shared in the the last two days. She shared the pinned post on June 4. It shows photos of Sanders with her son, Snow.

“It’s time to turn the pain into purpose. There’s a community of women who have experienced it and God used it for His Glory. You have a stage, use it well to bring others to Christ. The same stage that others saw your pain, can be used to showcase your purpose. Let’s go! Start the community groups, the podcast, the 501(C)3–don’t dare let your pain defeat you,” @quotidian_tay wrote.

“I know that dwarf hurt u, but I promise u if u put God 1st u will get exactly who is for u❤️,” @1ofno_nee added.

“Give yourself some grace. With God nothing is wasted. Look at your beautiful boy. Rejection will always be Gods protection. Count it all Joy. 🤍🕊️🙏🏾🙌🏾,” @bronze_luv commented.

“Keep your head up, you’re a great mother. No matter how he got here, he was made for YOU 🙏🏾💙,” @briaxrene added.

Did Dreezy Also Respond To Jacquees’ Comments?

After going viral by speaking on Deiondra Sanders and Dreezy, Jacquees has seemingly kept it pushing. He expressed in that chat that he’s at a peaceful place in life and desires to be away from drama. Sanders, as we’ve seen, had plenty to get off her chest! Meanwhile, Dreezy hasn’t directly addressed her ex-man. However, a number of tweets that began on the day of the livestream, June 10, turned a few heads! For example, in one June 10 tweet she wrote, “Protecting my peace at all costs.” A few hours later, Dreezy wrote, “I’m not out here playing victim for sympathy, so I’ll hardly get my flowers. But time will tell.”

Later she retweeted a post from June 11 that reads, “Real power is knowing when to wrap it up and bow out gracefully.” Then, on June 12, she wrote about being a real girls’ girl.

Her most recent post, on Saturday, was a selfie she posted on Instagram Stories. She captioned it “no lash kinda day.” Her IG feed hasn’t been updated since June 6, when she shared a recap of her attendance at Hollywood Unlocked’s Impact Awards.

8 Greatest Sci-Fi Shows Even Diehards Haven’t Seen

Published

on

Planetes Anime 2003 Sunrise

In a genre near overflowing with dystopian futures, time-bending experiments, and galaxy-spanning epics, it’s easy for a few of them to get lost in the mainstream hype of it all. Most dedicated fans of science fiction may think they’ve seen everything, but in truth, they’ve likely missed quite a few hidden gems. From shows cancelled far too soon to others that were just too ahead of their time during their run, the sci-fi genre’s endless realm is packed full of underappreciated stories that do the same (and sometimes more) than most mainstream watches.

Shows like the one-season wonder FlashForward and even the stunningly brilliant anime series like Astra Lost in Space are both hidden gems that have often been overlooked or simply missed by most sci-fi lovers. Uncovered on this list are some of the most captivating series in the genre — stories that deserve to be seen by all sci-fi diehard fans.

‘Planetes’ (2003–2004)

Planetes Anime 2003 Sunrise

Planetes is a Japanese-animated series that most sci-fi fans — especially those not entrenched in the realm of anime — likely have never seen. The series is set in the year 2075 and follows Ai Tanabe (Ai Kakuma), a new recruit to a team of space debris collectors, and her more closed-off colleague, Hachirota “Hachimaki” Hoshino (Johnny Yong Bosch), as they chase their personal dreams and perform debris EVA missions.

Planetes has the special ability of making the mundane of humanity’s day-to-day seem extremely compelling. The show doesn’t feature big space battles or any alien creatures, but instead focuses on mankind’s struggle, growth, and tenacity. Quite often, the show is lauded as the best in the sci-fi genre, but it is unfortunately frequently overlooked by Western sci-fi fans. For those sci-fi diehards who haven’t yet opened their world to the vast universe of anime, Planetes definitely stands as a solid opener — especially since popular dramas like The Expanse exist. The anime series continues to be an extremely thoughtful and grounded portrayal of human ambition and space travel far ahead of its time.

‘Beforeigners’ (2019–2021)

This Norwegian series takes a fresh approach to the time-travel and buddy-cop trope sci-fi fans are used to. Beforeigners centers around people of past eras — from medieval Vikings and Stone Age folks, to 19th-century Victorians — who suddenly begin to appear in the present day.

Beforeigners wields a brilliant sci-fi premise, which features multiple clashes of culture that lead to both poignant and darkly funny circumstances. The series delivers an entertaining and truly captivating crime drama with a time-travel twist that explores heavy themes like integration, immigration, and identity. Despite its unique qualities, it’s a series that stands criminally underrated. Many diehard science fiction fans have likely never seen the series due to its international status. This is a true misfortune, as Beforeigners is an excellent watch that skillfully blends speculative fiction social commentary with neo-noir mystery, making for an inventive sci-fi series.

‘FlashForward’ (2009–2010)

FlashForward is a one-season sci-fi drama that wields an irresistible premise. The captivating series kicks off after every single person on earth blacks out for exactly 137 seconds, where they see visions of their life six months into the future. The story primarily focuses on Mark Benford (Joseph Fiennes), an FBI agent who, in his flashforward, saw clues to the cause of the global blackout.

Wielding an intricately woven narrative, FlashForward delivers a great series for sci-fi fans. Each episode is a new layer to the mystery and character connections, keeping audiences on the edge of their seats. Despite featuring relatable characters and a compelling sci-fi twist, FlashForward unfortunately fell victim to failing ratings, ending its single season on a heart-pounding cliffhanger. Fans of the sci-fi genre have likely skipped the series due to talk of its unresolved ending or have simply missed it due to the show being aired during a crowded TV season. Despite its abrupt end, Flashforward is still 22 episodes long with an imaginative sci-fi plot worth diving into.

‘Real Humans’ (2012–2014)

This Swedish series is one of the first to do societal change and artificial intelligence, years before shows like Humans and Westworld came on the scene. The series Äkta människor, or Real Humans, is set in an alternate-present Sweden, where human-like androids known as “hubots” have become common household commodities. With an interwoven story that follows multiple perspectives, the series centers around a suburban family who find themselves with a hubot named Anita (Lisette Pagler), who is much more than she appears, and a group of rogue, self-aware hubots fighting for their freedom and identity.

Real Humans effectively grounds its sci-fi concepts in everyday life by focusing on the personal stories of its characters. The series’ greatest highlight is its emotional depth and subtlety as it explores family, prejudice, and the definition of consciousness. Those outside of Sweden have sadly missed the series due to Real Humans not having been widely streamed. Audiences instead found the series’ English remake, Humans on AMC, which, while great, didn’t wield many of the extraordinary qualities that its original did. Diehard sci-fi fans should definitely take a peek at Real Humans, as it stands as a thought-provoking must-watch.

Your Fate Has Been Calculated
You’d Survive In…

Your answers point to the world your instincts were built for. This is the universe your temperament, your survival instincts, and your particular brand of stubbornness were made for.

The Resistance, Zion

The Matrix

You took the red pill a long time ago — probably before anyone offered it to you. You’re a systems thinker who can’t help but notice the seams in things.

  • You’re drawn to understanding how the system works before figuring out how to break it.
  • You’d find the Resistance, or it would find you — your instinct for spotting constructed realities is the machines’ worst nightmare.
  • You function best when you have access to information and the freedom to act on it.
  • The Matrix built an airtight prison. You’d be the one probing the walls for the door.

The Wasteland

Mad Max

The wasteland doesn’t reward the clever or the well-connected — it rewards those who are hard to kill and harder to break. That’s you.

  • You don’t need comfort, community, or a cause larger than the next horizon.
  • You need a vehicle, a clear threat, and enough fuel to outrun it — and you’re good at all three.
  • You are unsentimental enough to survive that world, and decent enough — just barely — to be something more than another raider.
  • In the wasteland, that distinction is everything.

Los Angeles, 2049

Blade Runner

You’d survive here because you know how to exist in moral grey areas without losing yourself completely.

  • You read people accurately, keep your circle small, and ask the questions others prefer not to answer.
  • In a city where humanity is a legal designation rather than a feeling, you hold onto something that keeps you functional.
  • You’re not a hero. But you’re not lost, either.
  • In Blade Runner’s world, that distinction is everything.

Arrakis

Dune

Arrakis is the most hostile environment in the known universe — and you are precisely the kind of person it rewards.

  • Patience, discipline, and political awareness are your core strengths — and on Arrakis, they’re survival tools.
  • You understand that the long game matters more than any single victory.
  • Others come to Dune and are consumed by it. You’d learn its logic and earn its respect.
  • In time, you wouldn’t just survive Arrakis — you’d begin to reshape it.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Star Wars

The galaxy far, far away is vast, loud, and in a constant state of violent political upheaval — and you wouldn’t have it any other way.

  • You find meaning in being part of something larger than yourself — a cause, a crew, a rebellion.
  • You’d gravitate toward the Rebellion, or the fringes, or whatever pocket of the galaxy still believes the Empire’s grip can be broken.
  • You fight — not because you have to, but because standing aside isn’t something you’re capable of.
  • In Star Wars, that willingness is what makes all the difference.

‘ReGenesis’ (2004–2008)

This Canadian series explored the world of bioterrorism and cutting-edge science with uncanny foresight. ReGenesis premiered in 2004 and follows David Sandström (Peter Outerbridge), a molecular biologist, who is the extraordinarily brilliant but incredibly reckless head of a fictional agency called NorBAC — North American Biotechnology Advisory Commission.

ReGenesis is host to many hauntingly prescient scenarios that feel extremely relevant today. The series was ahead of its time and, during its run, quickly distinguished itself with its refusal to dumb down much of its complex scientific concepts. The show’s characters are well-drawn and relatable, while its story balances high-stakes labwork with everyday personal affairs. Despite ReGenesis being a high-quality sci-fi series, it was never really seen outside of Canada. ReGenesis may not have been widely known internationally, but it absolutely stands as a sci-fi show perfect for fans of series like The X-Files or Fringe, both of which are extremely science-driven.

‘Almost Human’ (2013–2014)

Almost Human was a refreshing mix of cyberpunk flair and buddy-cop action when it first premiered back in 2013. The series, set in 2048, centers around John Kennex (Karl Urban), a grizzled detective who returns to the force after a traumatic injury and is unwillingly paired with a new partner: an android named Dorian (Michael Ealy).

Almost Human is a compelling crime drama that wields plenty of heart. Ealy and Urban deliver standout performances that remain among some of the show’s most memorable moments, while the production boasts a strong pedigree. Unfortunately, despite the show’s great potential, Fox aired episodes out of order, which eventually led to the series’ cancellation. Many sci-fi lovers didn’t get to see the show due to poor handling and its short run. Despite all its setbacks, Almost Human is worth taking a chance on, especially for those who adore sci-fi action and buddy-cop humor.

‘Astra Lost in Space’ (2019)

When it comes to space adventures, even up against most live-action series, Astra Lost in Space is capable of holding its own in terms of sci-fi brilliance and overall captivating storytelling. The series is set in the year 2063 and centers on a group of students on a routine school trip to another planet — but something unexpected occurs. The group encounters a mysterious Sphere that takes the teens and transports them thousands of light-years away, forcing them to find their way back home.

Astra Lost in Space is an anime series packed with breathtaking visuals, mystery, and a moving emotional depth. It’s a heartfelt sci-fi stand-out with various twists and turns that feel like a meeting between Star Trek: The Next Generation and Lord of the Flies. Astra Lost in Space is not only a criminally underrated anime gem — it’s an outrageously underrated sci-fi series, period. It’s a heartfelt story that features themes of survival, belonging, and found family. The series is a true adventure for viewers who become heavily invested in its story, due to the strong sense of belonging it creates with its lovable cast of characters. While the series has never gotten the viewership it deserves and remains overlooked by anime fans and sci-fi enthusiasts alike, Astra Lost in Space still counts as an incredible must-watch that’s capable of enrapturing any sci-fi lover.

‘Sense8’ (2015–2018)

This series wields a cult following unlike any other. Sense8 follows eight perfect strangers across the globe who unexpectedly become emotionally and mentally linked to one another. With a threat cornering the group, they must work together to defeat the odds and save the day, all the while growing closer and becoming the family none of them could have ever hoped for.

Sense8 may host a brilliant plot that features diversity, representation, and a sci-fi story worth talking about, but its viewership still didn’t stand up to most mainstream science fiction shows. The compelling series even faced cancellation, but the few diehard sci-fi fans who found themselves in love with the show were thankfully able to persuade the showrunners to give them a solid conclusion. As time passes, the already underwatched show has continued to fade into obscurity. But with its bold exploration of identity, love, sexuality, gender, and politics, Sense8 stands as a one-of-a-kind viewing experience that is an absolute must-watch for all sci-fi diehards.

Kate Middeton Channels Princess Diana Outfit

Princess Kate Middleton appeared to pay tribute to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, while attending Trooping the Colour 2026.

Kate, 44, stunned in a pastel blue Catherine Walker dress that featured white piping along the trim to coordinate with her statement Philip Treacy hat that reminded royal watchers of Diana’s similar ensemble from a 1992 public appearance.

Diana visited the Delhi War Cemetery in Delhi, India, in February 1992, where she wore a blue-and-white suit designed by Walker with a blue Philip Somerville hat. Diana’s blue jacket, much like Kate’s dress during Trooping the Colour, featured white piping down the lapels.

The People’s Princess died in August 1997 after a fatal car crash in Paris when she was 36 years old. Diana is survived by sons Prince William and Prince Harry, whom she shared with ex-husband King Charles III.

“I have taken some guidance from what my mother did,” William said in his We Can End Homelessness documentary that aired in 2024. “When I was very small my mother started talking about homelessness, much like I do now with my children on the school run.”

At the time, William recalled Diana often taking him and brother Harry, 41, to local shelters to lend a hand.

The royal family allegedly encouraged Princess Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle to take style cues from their late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. According to royal expert Omid Scobie’s new book, Endgame, Kate, 41, and Meghan, 42, felt “gentle pushes” from members of The Firm to take style cues from Diana. Page Six excerpted the book on […]

“When you’re [that] small, you’re curious, and you’re kind of trying to work out what’s going on,” William added in the doc. “You just ask the question, like, ‘Well, why are they sitting there?’ And my mother would talk to us a bit about why they were there. It definitely had a really big impact.”

Nearly two years later, William honored Diana on UK Mother’s Day.

“Remembering my mother, today and every day,” he wrote via social media in March, alongside rare family photos. “Thinking of all those who are remembering someone they love today. Happy Mother’s Day.”

As for Kate, she has often sartorially paid tribute to Diana’s memory. She even wears the same sapphire engagement ring given to Diana by Charles, 77, before their royal nuptials.

Did Andrew Attend 2026 Trooping the Colour With Royals?

Published

Prince Andrew Does/Does Not Appear Alongside Royal Family During 2026 Trooping the Colour

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor did not join the royal family on the Buckingham Palace balcony during the 2026 Trooping the Colour celebration.

King Charles III celebrated his annual birthday parade and military flypast on Saturday, June 13, with his wife, Queen Camilla, and his son Prince William, who was accompanied by wife Princess Kate Middleton and their three children: Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 7.

Trooping the Colour takes place in London every June to celebrate the monarch’s birthday. Charles was honored with the Horse Guards Parade, despite his actual birthday falling in November.

Andrew’s absence comes months after he was arrested by the Thames Valley Police this past February.

Authorities confirmed at the time that the disgraced royal family member was taken into custody on “suspicion of misconduct in public office” regarding his longtime friendship with the late Jeffrey Epstein.

Prior to Andrew’s arrest, police confirmed to the BBC that they were looking into allegations that the former Duke of York shared confidential information with Epstein during his tenure as U.K. trade envoy.

The investigation into Andrew has since expanded to include accusations of sexual misconduct. The Thames Valley Police confirmed in May that they were looking into reports that “a woman was taken to an address in Windsor in 2010 for sexual purposes,” confirming that they had spoken to the unknown woman’s legal council.

Authorities confirmed that they were working alongside U.K.’s Crown Prosecution Service and the United States Department of Justice.

“Our team of very experienced detectives are working meticulously through a significant amount of information that has come in from the public and other sources,” Thames Valley Police Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright shared in a statement last night. “We are committed to conducting a thorough investigation into all reasonable lines of enquiry, wherever they may lead.”

Andrew has been under fire for years because of his close-knit relationship to Epstein, who died in 2019 after being arrested on sex trafficking of minors and conspiracy to commit sex trafficking charges.

In October 2025, Charles stripped his younger brother of his official royal titles as Andrew’s relationship with Epstein continued to make headlines.

“Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence,” Buckingham Palace shared in a statement at the time. “Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him.”

The statement concluded, “Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”
