It took Jumanji 14 years to go from award-winning children’s book to the big screen. Author/illustrator Chris Van Allsburg’s sci-fi follow up Zathura was optioned from the moment it hit bookstores in 2002. By 2005 movie audiences were exploring the galaxy in a flying house. Or they would have been, if anyone had seen it in theaters, which, they didn’t. Zathura suffered from one of the worst release dates of the 2000s thanks to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, but today it can be enjoyed on Netflix without one of the most successful franchises in history competing for your attention. 

Jumanji IN SPPPPAAAAACCCCEEEEE

Zathura is the forgotten film in the Jumanji franchise. It opens like all the rest though, two young brothers, Walter(Future Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson) and Danny (Jonah Bobo) find a mysterious board game, start playing, and realize it’s shaping reality around them. Instead of Robin Williams turning up, the kids get Dax Shepard as an astronaut lost in space, and instead of a crazy old hunter, they have to deal with the lizard-like Zorgons. A pre-Twilight Kristen Stewart plays Lisa, the boys’ older sister who gets dragged along for the adventure after sleeping in. 

Even though the entire movie is centered around the house spaceship, Favreau found ways to make Zathura visually interesting, surprisingly for the time, by using practical effects over CGI. That includes multiple miniature models for the spaceships, a full-sized replica of a frozen Kristen Stewart, and the impractical decision to film the house falling into a gravity well by actually tilting the set 40 degrees straight down. With all of the performers on it. The result is a movie that looks amazing even today.

The story of Zathura isn’t as good as the original Jumanji, but it’s not bad. An obvious moral and writing that decides to turn subtext into text is perfectly acceptable for a film meant for children. The problem with the movie was it was released on November 11, 2005. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was released on November 18, 2005. Which movie do you think kids wanted to see? 

Ironically, the dueling release dates means that prior to changing pop culture forever, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson went head-to-head at the box office. Goblet of Fire made $900 million, Zathura made $64 million. In this case the release date and box office mean so much to the film because if people watched it, they’d realize it’s a fun movie.

Zathura Is Ready For A Remake

The success of the Jumanji sequels with Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black has started talks about a potential Zathura remake. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’s bazaar hinted at a larger world of interconnected boardgame universes which could be the perfect setup to return the franchise to space. 

By flipping the Jumanji formula to be avatars in a reality-warping video game instead of kids playing a board game, the franchise found a whole new level of success that lets them use major Hollywood stars as a way to appeal to kids and adults. For everything Zathura did right, Dax Shepard is no Robin Williams. Jumanji in space is a great concept that today, would find the right audience and be another in a string of hits for the revitalized franchise.

Zathura is now streaming on Netflix.

A testosterone-filled action classic, Top Gun is almost as synonymous with America as apple pie and Don McLean. The film made Cruise a star, and he’s pitch-perfect as a rebel with a cause – and a crush on an older woman who is more intelligent and mature than he is. The aerial fight scenes still hold up, but what’s surprising about the film is how solid the love story is. Cruise and McGillis have good chemistry, and they sell their characters’ somewhat unbelievable relationship.

‘Air Force One (1997) – Disney+

There are plenty of movies about presidents, but Air Force One is the only one with Harrison Ford as pissed-off prez with a mean left hook. President James Marshall (Ford) has every right to be angry – his presidential plane, Air Force One, has been hijacked by some Russian terrorists, and his family is in immediate danger. Marshall is used to fighting political foes in Congress, but it’s a whole different ball game when he’s all alone, 20,000 feet in the air and surrounded by people who want to kill him.

Do you really need to be convinced to watch a movie with Harrison Ford fighting Gary Oldman on a plane that’s out of control and about to crash? Air Force One is silly, stupid fun, and probably the only movie that makes politics exciting. Ford at his ‘90s action-hero best, while Glenn Close brings her usual class to the role of an anxious vice president who has to be ready to become the world’s most powerful leader at a moment’s notice.

Air Force One looks like a political documentary next to Olympus Has Fallen. The 2013 action movie might as well be science fiction, as it takes place in a reality where bad guys can pretty much walk right into the White House and steal nuclear codes. But this reality also has Morgan Freeman as a calm and rational politician (what a concept!) and Gerard Butler as an ass-kicking, stab-loving federal cop who can take down a team of assassins without getting killed. Olympus Has Fallen is pure action fantasy, and I wouldn’t change a thing about it. Be sure to avoid its two inferior sequels, London Has Fallen and Angel Has Fallen.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce may have exchanged vows in front of more than 1,000 guests at Madison Square Garden, but attendees say the ceremony still felt surprisingly personal. The morning after the couple’s highly anticipated wedding, “Good Morning America” hosts Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, and Michael Strahan shared behind-the-scenes details from the celebration, including a touching element of the bride and groom’s vows.

During Saturday’s broadcast, George Stephanopoulos revealed that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce each carried handwritten vows to the altar. According to the veteran journalist, the couple exchanged promises using “little books” during the ceremony.

The ABC anchor had also spoken to reporters following Friday’s wedding, sharing details about the emotional moment. “He says … the vows were everything you would hope for. Real, vulnerable, serious and silly, deeply loving,” an ABC reporter recounted of Stephanopoulos’ reaction.

Roberts also highlighted one of the most meaningful aspects of the ceremony. “Their own vows,” she said while discussing the couple’s decision to personalize the exchange.

AMC Theatres CEO Adam Aron also shared details about the couple’s vows in a social media post, writing, “Long, entertaining, personal, charming, emotional, irreverent and endearing explorations by each as to how they met, why they want to be with each other for all eternity, the promises they made in joining their much-beloved two whole families as one, and committing to their new mutual life together.”

Guests Say The Massive Event Felt Surprisingly Intimate

Despite being held inside one of the world’s most famous arenas, attendees said the wedding felt more like a close-knit family gathering than a celebrity spectacle.

Roberts explained that many of the guests were longtime friends and people who had known Swift and Kelce long before they became global superstars. “They had their neighbors [and] their high school friends [there] … like any wedding you would attend,” she said.

Stephanopoulos agreed, noting that the atmosphere felt remarkably personal given the scale of the venue. “[It was] as intimate as it could possibly be given that it was Madison Square Garden. It’s hard to imagine a place that big and a wedding with such stars could feel so personal,” he said, adding that the ceremony itself was “beautiful.”

We know the odds are in the favor of our protagonist this time around, but it doesn’t mean the next Hunger Games movie is going to get any easier to watch. Sunrise on the Reaping takes place 24 years before Katniss Everdeen volunteers for Prim and follows Haymitch as he is selected for the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. The returning Capitol players include Ralph Fiennes (Conclave) as President Coriolanus Snow, Elle Fanning (A Complete Unknown) as Effie Trinket, Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain) as Caesar Flickerman, Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction) as Drusilla Sickle, and Billy Porter (Pose) as Magno Stift. Francis Lawrence returns as director, having overseen the franchise from Catching Fire onwards.

Tom Brady may have been one of the biggest names in attendance at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s wedding, but he wasn’t one of the last guests standing. The seven-time Super Bowl champion was spotted quietly leaving Madison Square Garden on Friday night, hours before the newlyweds’ lavish reception reportedly wrapped up.

Photos obtained by Page Six showed Brady keeping a low profile as he sat in the backseat of a waiting vehicle outside the iconic New York City venue. Per the outlet, Brady was seen departing the celebration while many guests remained inside enjoying the festivities. The retired NFL star reportedly kept his head down as photographers captured his exit from the venue.

His arrival also drew attention because he attended the star-studded event solo. While many guests arrived alongside spouses, significant others, or family members, Brady appeared to enjoy the evening on his own.

Brady Has Previously Spoken Highly Of Travis Kelce

Although Brady and Kelce spent years competing against one another in the NFL, the former quarterback has repeatedly praised the Kansas City Chiefs star.

Last year, Brady opened up about Kelce’s ability to balance his football career with life in the spotlight. “It’s all part of growing up,” Brady said while discussing Kelce’s increasingly public life.

He also predicted a bright future for the Chiefs tight end. “I really think Travis is a great player. I’ve gotten a chance to cover him a lot,” Brady explained. “He’s going to go into the Hall of Fame as one of the great tight ends. I enjoy covering him.”

Brady then appeared to reference both Kelce’s football success and his relationship with Swift, saying, “Seems like things are going great.”

The couple completed their wedding-day looks with custom Christian Louboutin shoes, while Swift accessorized with Cartier jewelry. Rather than having traditional bridesmaids and groomsmen, the couple reportedly gave special roles to their siblings. Swift’s brother, Austin Swift, served as her man of honor, while Kelce’s brother, Jason Kelce, stood beside him as best man.
