Grande met Alvarez when he joined her team as a backup dancer on her Honeymoon Tour in February 2015. The pair began dating that April and later called it quits in July 2016.
Grande famously name-dropped Alvarez in her 2018 hit “Thank U, Next,” singing, “Wrote some songs about Ricky, now I listen and laugh.” The track also featured nods to other exes, including Big Sean, Pete Davidson and the late Mac Miller, who died in 2018 of an accidental overdose at age 26.
Grande shared Alvarez’s reaction to being featured in the song while discussing her Thank U, Next album in 2019.
“Ricky loved it. He was proud. But Ricky was like, ‘Why did I get the worst line?’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ He was like, ‘Everyone else’s line is so nice, and mine is like, ‘Man, f*** him, he’s trash.’ I was like I could have said that,” Grande recalled during her appearance on the Zach Sang Show at the time. “I could’ve said, ‘Wrote some songs about Ricky, never mind he’s trash.’ … But I didn’t. After her romance with Alvarez ended, Grande dated Miller from 2016 to 2018. She was also briefly engaged to Pete Davidson in 2018 and married to ex-husband Dalton Gomez from 2020 to 2024. Grande moved on with Wicked costar Slater, 34, following her separation from Gomez in 2023.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has released two ransom notes sent to local and national news outlets in connection with the disappearance of Today show host Savannah Guthrie‘s mother, Nancy Guthrie.
“These communications reveal distinctive patterns of word choice, syntax, and phraseology that reflect the writer’s unique linguistic style,” read a press release shared via X on Friday, July 31. “They also provide valuable insight into the person’s mindset, motives and the evolution of their tone over time.”
The department noted that they believe the notes’ “distinctive linguistic characteristics may be recognizable to someone who knows or has interacted with the notes’ writer. A friend, family member, coworker, classmate, or acquaintance may recognize these patterns of expression and possess information that could help identify the individual responsible.”
The first note — which was sent to KOLD-TV 13 News, a local CBS affiliate in Tucson, Arizona, on February 2, one day after Nancy, 84, was reported missing — is addressed to Savannah, 54.

“We have your mother, Nancy. She is safe but scared,” the note read. “She will be held for ransom, and once payment is received, she will be released unharmed. We will be holding her for a maximum of 7 days.”
The alleged kidnappers instructed Savannah to send “Bitcoin in the amount of $4 million USD before 5 p.m. on Thursday, [February 5].”
“If payment is not received, the ransom will be increased to $6 million USD, which will need to be paid by 5 p.m. on Monday, [February 9],” the note continued. “Once payment is received to the Bitcoin address below, she will be released within 12 hours of deposit to a safe drop-off location back in Tucson.”
The note warned that Nancy would be “killed” if payment was not received by the second deadline.
“Your mother is aware of this, and her life is in your hands. It is in the best interest of everyone to have this completed as soon as possible. You will not be able to contact me from here on out, there will be no negotiation. Do not play games, law enforcement will not be able to help you,” the note concluded.

The second ransom note was sent to KOLD on February 6 and addressed to the “Guthrie Family.”
“We did not fully grasp the seriousness of her physical condition,” the note read. “We never intended to hurt her, that was not our intention. She perished shortly after she was taken. We believe it was heart-related. She is buried in nature now. Nothing you could have done could have changed the outcome. We want your family to know this and hope you all can find peace. We are truly sorry.”
In addition to releasing the notes, the PCSD noted in Friday’s press release that they, along with the FBI, have “recovered videos from [Nancy’s] residence showing an unidentified male who knows what happened” to the Guthrie family matriarch.
“Two videos recovered from Nancy’s doorbell camera may be from two separate days,” the statement continued. “These videos are critical to our understanding of the unidentified male’s behaviors and choices. They indicate he took steps to prepare for the event on the night of January 31 to February 1.”
The department has asked the public for “continued assistance” in the search for Nancy.

The statement concluded, “In some cases, there are times when people who may have knowledge initially do not come forward. This may be due to their close relationships with those who might be involved as well as a concern for their own safety, reputation, or standing in the community and amongst their friends. We recognize relationships and loyalties change over time, as do people and their perspectives. It is not too late to come forward. Regardless of how insignificant you think your information may be, or whether you think we are already aware of it, please contact us.”
Nancy was last confirmed to be at her residence in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood in Tucson on the evening of January 31. She is believed to have been taken from her home in the early hours of February 1.
It has been one blow after another for Sid Wilson, whose turbulent year has taken another dramatic turn following reports that the longtime Slipknot DJ has been pushed out of the band.
The alleged professional split comes roughly four months after reports claimed Wilson and fiancée Kelly Osbourne ended their engagement, adding to what has become a challenging period in both his personal and career life.
Sid Wilson joined Slipknot in 1999 as one of the band’s original members after famously proving he was “crazy” enough to earn a place in the lineup.
Sid Wilson’s long tenure with Slipknot has reportedly come to an abrupt end after claims emerged that the musician is no longer part of the heavy metal band he helped build from the ground up.
According to sources, Wilson was informed late Friday that he had been permanently removed as the group’s DJ and keyboardist. While the reason behind the decision remains unclear, the reported exit marks the end of a run that began in 1999, when Wilson joined as one of Slipknot’s nine original members.
The reported departure also makes Wilson the latest founding member to leave the band, following the exits of Craig Jones and Chris Fehn, as well as the deaths of Joey Jordison and Paul Gray. At the time of publication, neither Wilson nor Slipknot had publicly addressed the reported split, per TMZ.

The shocking exchange ended with Crahan reportedly pushing Wilson away before declaring, “I don’t give a shit what anybody says, that guy’s in the band.”
The moment instantly convinced the group that Wilson fit the intensity and unpredictability that defined Slipknot’s identity, according to NME.
Looking back, the story became one of the band’s most memorable origin tales, illustrating just how unconventional Wilson’s path into Slipknot really was.

Years after earning his place in Slipknot, Wilson reflected on the musicians who helped shape the band’s sound, reserving especially high praise for late founding drummer Joey Jordison.
The DJ described Jordison as “the best that ever did it,” recalling how respected the drummer was among fellow musicians and how effortlessly he could master virtually any song.
Wilson also remembered a festival performance where Jordison stepped in for Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, saying the late musician was able to learn and perform the band’s set with remarkable ease.
As reported by VICE, Wilson believed Jordison constantly pushed himself because he always felt he had something to prove, a mindset that made him one of the greatest drummers he had ever seen.
The praise continued for current drummer Eloy Casagrande, whom Wilson described as “a fresh breath of air” for Slipknot, adding that the band had not truly felt like it was starting a new chapter until Casagrande arrived.
Notably, Wilson did not mention former drummer Jay Weinberg while reflecting on the group’s history, despite Weinberg spending nearly a decade with the band before his unexpected departure.

After years of delays, rewrites, and uncertainty surrounding Marvel Studios’ long troubled Blade reboot, Mahershala Ali has finally addressed the project’s cancellation in his most candid comments yet.
Speaking with GQ while promoting his new film Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, Ali made it clear that he’s no longer dwelling on the failed Marvel project and has found peace with how everything unfolded.
“If they wanted to do it, we would’ve done it,” Ali told GQ. “So I have to move on, and I have moved on.”
The Oscar winner was first announced as Marvel’s new Blade during San Diego Comic Con in 2019, a reveal that instantly became one of the MCU’s biggest casting announcements. However, after multiple directors departed, several writers took over the screenplay, and the film was repeatedly delayed, Marvel ultimately shelved the project. Earlier this month, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige admitted he felt “like a gigantic loser and a failure” that the film never came together.
Despite the disappointment, Ali says the experience wasn’t a complete loss.
“The best way I can answer this question is, when I look at what is for me, is it was either this or that and I’ll take this. No offense to them,” Ali explained. “I’ve been doing this professionally for pushing 30 years now, and one thing I’ve learned is that what is for you is for you and what is not is not.”

Instead of starring as Marvel’s vampire hunter, Ali reunited with former Blade director Bassam Tariq to create the original action drama Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother. The actor believes the film ultimately became a more rewarding creative experience than the Marvel reboot could have been.
“When I look at this and Blade, I couldn’t have done both,” Ali said. “The reason this even exists is because that project fell apart… I was able to use those skills that I had been working on for over a year training for Blade. In that way, I feel creatively redeemed on some level.”
Ali also acknowledged that the first teaser for the new film intentionally included him wielding a sword, something many fans viewed as a nod to the character they never got to see him play.
“I’m glad we were able to satisfy that and kind of move on,” he said, adding that while audiences may have expected a big budget superhero spectacle, the smaller scale project allowed them to tell a much deeper and more personal story.

As for whether fans should continue asking him about Marvel’s canceled reboot, Ali made his position perfectly clear.
“I’m good,” he said with a laugh. “Again, you had me under contract, they have billions of dollars, if they wanted to do the movie, we would’ve done the movie. So we’re not doing the movie… I feel ready to move on from the Blade questions. Those questions are for them. They didn’t want to do it, so they should answer that question.”
For many Marvel fans, Ali’s comments offer long awaited closure on one of the MCU’s most infamous canceled projects. While his version of Blade never made it to the big screen, the actor has made it clear he’s looking ahead, not back.

There are spooky films, and then there are deeply disturbing, psychological horror films from this transgressing sub-genre, so if you haven’t watched it before, consider this a heads-up that it’s not nearly as festive as your next-door Michael Myers or Fargo Season 5-ish dark comedy scare around Halloween. This is intense and goes far beyond.
The film’s title is Martyrs, and it is now available for pre-order (it’ll be available starting October 19, 2026). The premise follows Lucie (Mylène Jampanoï), a traumatized young woman seeking revenge on her childhood torturers, and her friend Anna (Morjana Alaoui), who uncovers a secret society torturing victims to glimpse the afterlife, and it simply doesn’t get more intense than that. During an interview, Laugier once went on to share his sentiments about Martyrs in the following words:
“It is almost a work of prospective fiction that shows a dying world, almost like a pre-apocalypse. It’s a world where evil triumphed a long time ago, where consciences have died out under the reign of money and where people spend their time hurting one another. It’s a metaphor, of course, but the film describes things that are not that far from what we’re experiencing today.”
This Isn’t the First Time ‘Martyrs’ Has Become Available in This Restored Format
Pascal Laugier’s 2008 film is returning in 4K UHD and Blu-ray through Eureka Entertainment’s Masters of Cinema, and it’s not the restoration’s first release. Eureka’s now-discontinued limited dual-format edition originally debuted in October 2025, but now, a year later, this repacking comes without the collector packaging, uses a 4K restoration from the original camera negative with Dolby Vision/HDR, original French 5.1 and stereo audio, and newly revised English subtitles.
But it’s not just that. There is extra footage that includes but isn’t limited to the production from several useful angles, including Mylène Jampanoï’s performance, Benoît Lestang’s effects, the film’s place in New French Extremity, its body-horror language, Laugier’s intentions about what he wanted the film to be like, and the feature-length making-of documentary Organic Chronicles, which is an archival, behind-the-scenes take directed by Matthieu Desport about the making of Martyrs.

Perry and Trudeau met with former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida during a getaway in the country.
“Former Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau came to Japan with his partner, Katy Perry, and had lunch with us,” Kishida wrote via Instagram on December 4. “During my time as Prime Minister, I met Prime Ministers many times, and when I visited Canada, we worked together to strengthen bilateral relations, including formulating the Nikka Action Plan. While sharing a recap of her holiday season, Perry uploaded a photo of herself leaning to kiss Trudeau beside a body of water. Trudeau rocked a pair of dark sunglasses and a white T-shirt as he gave a smile for the camera. ““Holidaze ♥️,” Perry captioned the Instagram post.

Perry shared a sweet photo of her and Trudeau posing together via Instagram. She placed one hand on his chest while looking up and smiling at the former prime minister of Canada.
“Never knew karma could be so rewarding,” she captioned the post.
Trudeau’s son Xavier praised Perry for helping with his music career during an episode of the “Can’t Be Censored” podcast. “When I’m really happy with a song, [I] send it [to her],” he said. “She’s always happy to give me advice or tell me what I should change.”
He added, “She’s super nice. She’s super down to earth. She’s great. I think that my dad’s happy, so that’s important.”

A source exclusively told Us in June 2026 that “things between Katy and Justin are very serious.”
“After her split from Orlando, Katy really wasn’t expecting to jump into another relationship anytime soon, but Justin completely caught her by surprise. He came into her life at the right time, and they have developed a really strong connection,” the insider said, sharing that they have been “integrating their lives more and more.”
“Their relationship has deepened over the past several months, and they are about to celebrate their one-year anniversary,” the source said. “They both feel it’s important to blend their families thoughtfully and at a comfortable pace.”
Later that month, Perry and Trudeau made their red carpet debut at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City for the premiere of her new concert movie, Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live from Paris.
“Every day is a fantastic journey, and every day is a chance to evolve and to be a better person and do the right thing and to be a model for your community, for your family, for your world,” Perry said during a post-screening Q&A as she reflected on her global Lifetimes Tour in 2025.
“I would say now at the end of 91 shows, I feel like a more grounded person in so many aspects of my life. I am very in love. Actually, that show was after I met the love of my life, and so I felt very anchored by that,” she continued of her November 2025 tour dates in Paris. “I’m a little bit like a rainbow kite — I fly super high. Sometimes I need to be anchored, so to have that anchor finally makes me feel really whole now.”

As Perry’s Out of Office Tour went on break until the end of August, a source exclusively told Us that she and Trudeau are hoping to put down “roots.”
“She and Justin will finally have time to settle in as a blended family,” the insider shared. “Over the last month, they have been coparenting in Europe, and their exes Sophie and Orlando have been there.”
The source continued, “The idea is to re-stabilize and have some down time in August to figure out the architecture of what their relationship looks like, to lay some roots down and get a proper rhythm. They want to make sure there is a stable system to nurture their kids.”
The insider noted that Trudeau planned to have a “normal life” after he resigned from his role as prime minister of Canada.
“He bought a house, moved back to Montreal and has yet to settle into the home because of his relationship and the new world they live in,” the source said. “Everyone is rooting for them, but they need to settle down a bit, so that’s the plan. Everyone close to them wants them to succeed in their relationship.”
Perry, meanwhile, is “diving right into Canadian culture.”
“She’s shopping designers from Quebec. And it gives Justin pride that she wants to experience his culture as much as she can,” the source explained. “She wants to embrace his culture, and it is important to her that he feels proud. He is learning a lot from her and she is learning a lot from him.”
The pop star is also helping Trudeau’s son Xavier with his music aspirations.
“She’s mentoring him on how to have more pop appeal. He’s been spending time with her and his dad during this leg of the tour,” the insider said.
When thinking about good whodunits, Agatha Christie adaptations often come first to our minds; the clever puzzles, eccentric detectives, and unexpected twists make the narratives so compelling that viewers are glued to their seats. Movies like Clue, Gone Baby Gone, Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes, Gone Girl, and such also prove to be compelling watches. A more contemporary audience is well-versed in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out franchise, which presents a new mystery with each installment, seen through its detective Benoit Blanc’s (Daniel Craig) eyes.
This year, though, brought us a whodunit that will be remembered for its detectives rather than its mystery. Case in point is Hugh Jackman’s The Sheep Detectives, which puts forth a herd solving the case of their shepherd. We follow George Hardy (Jackman), a devoted shepherd who reads cozy murder mysteries to his flock every night. Things take a turn when George is suddenly and mysteriously found dead. While the local authorities quickly write it off as a heart attack, George’s sheep suspect foul play. Putting on their detective wool or caps, the flock then take it upon themselves to find the murderer.
Written by The Last of Us co-creator Craig Mazin and directed by Kyle Balda, The Sheep Detectives adapts Leonie Swann‘s 2005 international best-selling novel, Three Bags Full. The heartfelt story grips its audience as we see the overarching themes of isolation, dealing with darker realities like death and loss, love for an animal, and more. The movie garnered love all around, becoming a commercial success, earning $126 million worldwide on a $75 million budget.
Furthermore, the feature marks the highest-rated Hugh Jackman film, with a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics and a 96% score from fans. Along with Jackman, the whodunit also casts Nicholas Braun as the bumbling local cop, Molly Gordon as George’s long-lost daughter, while the voice cast includes icons like Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Patrick Stewart and more.
‘The Sheep Detectives’ Rise Is a Streaming Darling
But that isn’t all for the movie’s success, as it became even bigger when it hit PVOD and then streaming, dominating charts all around. Now the feature has achieved another milestone; The Sheep Detectives has spent over a month on Prime Video, as per FlixPatrol. It is currently at the 6th spot on Prime’s top 10 list, standing tall among films like Ryan Gosling’s Project Hail Mary, Travis Knight’s Masters of the Universe, two Jason Statham movies, Shelter and A Working Man, and more.

Pete Davidson and Elsie Hewitt have managed to put aside their differences for the sake of their daughter.
The comedian and the model were the epitome of a happy couple when they announced they were welcoming their first child together after less than a year of dating.
Unfortunately, Davidson and Hewitt weren’t able to keep the passion burning, with the strain of parenting forcing them to split. Custody issues began to rear their ugly heads, but the pair seems to have found common ground.
Seven months after the birth of Scottie Rose Hewitt Davidson, her parents have reportedly reached a “joint agreement” in how they would continue to raise her.
The former couple confirmed the positive update in a statement to PEOPLE Magazine that read:
“We are cooperatively coparenting our daughter whose well-being remains our top priority, and we are fully committed to working together to give her love from both of us.”
This comes just two months after Hewitt and Davidson shocked the world with news of their breakup. At the time, close sources claimed the duo was trying to work through their issues, and it was unclear if they would make up.
The Former Couple Were Having ‘Productive Conversations’ Already
It comes as no surprise that things have been resolved between the coparents after sources admitted discussion had been happening behind closed doors.
According to The Blast, an insider revealed things have gotten better between Davidson and Hewitt as communicating more led to them “having productive conversations” about their beloved daughter.
The informant noted that the “Saturday Night Live” alum stepped up and adjusted things to be more of a present dad. “Pete has adjusted his schedule to be there for their daughter,” they added.
However, the topic of reconciliation is one they can’t manage to see eye-to-eye on even though they really wanted the relationship to work.
This comes just two months after Hewitt and Davidson shocked the world with news of their breakup. At the time, close sources claimed the duo was trying to work through their issues, and it was unclear if they would make up.
Unfortunately, any hopes of a reunion were squashed when Hewitt alluded to the Staten Island native not being an involved parent.
As reported by The Blast, in a TikTok post, the model who once posed for Playboy insinuated she was single-parenting after paparazzi photographed her looking disheveled while pushing her daughter in a stroller
“That’s not what I’m thinking about right now, because I have a baby to take care of, and I also have to work and make money, and I’m doing it on my own,” she said in the clip.
She also put out a call for help, seeking an assistant and a nanny to lighten her load.
Pete Davidson Refutes Claim Of Hewitt Raising Daughter Alone
Although Hewitt didn’t directly allude to the breakup, her claims didn’t go unchallenged by those in Davidson’s close circle. Insiders revealed the 32-year-old was flabbergasted by the news that the model was raising their daughter all by herself.
Describing the comedian as a “very present” father, the source noted Davidson’s priority remains his child and her mother even with the split.
“He wants nothing but the best for Elsie, and he shoulders all of the financial costs, including the costs for Elsie, her rent, and her health insurance. Elsie’s posts caught everyone around them off guard because they are simply not true,” explained the insider, per The Blast.
As for their romantic woes, the informant stated that several “stressors,” including the baby, affected things. It also didn’t help that parenting happened very early in their relationship as they were still getting to know each other.
The Ex-Couple Was Experiencing ‘Too Much’ Friction
Close friends of the former lovebirds shed more light on their strenuous circumstances, admitting things moved super fast with Davidson and Hewitt.
Although their inner circle was happy about the news of their pregnancy, they noted that the relationship wasn’t strong enough to survive the difficulty of raising a baby.
“The two of them maybe clashed too much. Having a baby is difficult,” they added. However, some pals of the duo claim their daughter played little to no role in the split.
As reported by The Blast, it was clear for a while that Hewitt and Davidson “weren’t compatible,” said the insider.

Courtney Clenney Gets Plea Deal After Stabbing Boyfriend
Courtney Clenney accepted a plea deal after stabbing her boyfriend to death inside their condo in Miami, Florida. According to TMZ, prosecutors reached a deal with the accused killer. Her attorney, Frank Prieto, confirmed with the outlet.
The OnlyFans model was facing life in prison after being charged with second-degree murder. However, the details of the plea deal were not available. The Shade Room previously reported that Clenney fatally stabbed 27-year-old Obumseli on April 3, 2022. Neighbors called 911 after overhearing a domestic dispute between the couple.
Clenney Called Obumseli The N-Word
Video footage captured the killer covered in blood as officers from the Miami-Dade Police Department investigated the scene. Furthermore, Clenney, who is white, admitted to stabbing Christian, who was Black, with a knife. Despite her admission and blood-soaked clothes, the now 30-year-old wasn’t arrested until four months after the murder. Clenney was in rehab in Hawaii when she was arrested, per the Miami Herald, and extradited to Florida. The accused killer’s lawyer later claimed self-defense.
Later, audio found on Christian’s phone from months before his death captured Clenney repeatedly calling Christian the n-word and threatening to assault him. In one audio clip, Clenney called Obumseli the n-word multiple times within minutes. She also screamed at him, “man up b*tch” and “shut up and let me slap you, dumb a*s!”
Christian’s Cousin Jessica Nwabuko Called Chenney ‘Toxic’
Christian’s cousin Jessica Nwabuko told The Shade Room that she spoke to his friends, and they revealed the nature of the couple’s relationship.
“I spoke to one of his friends and his friends were saying that they do have a history of domestic violence,” said Nwabuko. “But he never put his hands on her. Um he was never the starter of their arguments — that she’s a very toxic person.”
She added, “You never really cherish those moments until the person is gone,” she added. “It breaks my heart that he didn’t even make it from a senseless murder.”

What Do You Think Roomies?
Sure, superhero movies may have truly blown up in the early 2000s, but the last decade and a half have been an incredible collection of years for superhero cinema, too. In 2010, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was finally taking off, and it was three years out from the beginning of the DC Extended Universe with Man of Steel—a big year to kick off the next era of superhero film.
There have been plenty of projects released since then that are amazing, but a few are truly exceptional and have helped define this corner of the industry forever. The fun thing about them—emphasizing the special things about superhero movies in general—is how abundantly different they are, while still, at their heart, being about heroes that are out of this world (sometimes literally).

‘Black Panther’ (2018)
There have been plenty of superhero projects that have become game changers for the space, but few are quite like the one and only Black Panther, directed by Ryan Coogler. This isn’t just a good action/adventure project, but it does something few movies have done, and that’s having an almost all black cast and crew in front of and behind the camera. This allowed Black Panther to have some amazing representation in a way that is unheard of for a superhero production.
Coogler’s amazing project isn’t just impactful for the industry, though, but it is also simply a good movie. Telling the story of King T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) of Wakanda, this 2018 epic has great commentary on the costs of isolationism and the power that representation has. With a phenomenal screenplay by Coogler himself and Joe Robert Cole, Black Panther is a truly special Marvel film. Not to mention, with all the news that’s come out about Black Panther 3 from San Diego Comic Con, this is a fun flick to look back on.

‘Superman’ (2025)
When Guardians of the Galaxy came out in 2014, director James Gunn cemented himself as a director in the superhero space that was going to continue to change the game, no matter what universe he’s operating in. So, when it was revealed that Gunn was not only going to be the head of the new DC Cinematic Universe, DC Studios, but the director of the next film starring the Man of Steel, people were extremely excited. Thankfully for Superman fans, Superman ended up being a phenomenal project.
Whether one likes or hates the DCEU’s interpretation of Superman (aside from the exceptional casting of Henry Cavill), it cannot be denied that the comic book company’s iconic character was missing his staple whimsy. Gunn brought that whimsy back in full force. The hope, light, and soul that people feel walking out of 2025’s Superman is one of a kind—a feeling that can only be brought by Superman himself. Also, the new casting of David Corenswet as the big blue boy scout was genuinely perfect. He embodies the role in an extremely genuine manner.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ (2014)
Speaking of Guardians of the Galaxy, this 2014 production helped redefine the MCU for the fact that it took some of Marvel Comics’ lesser known/cared about characters (to the general public, anyway) and made them fan favorites for many. Plenty of people will say that Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the best superhero movies of recent years, and also one of Marvel’s best trilogies in their large catalog of stories. This also brought in a whole new kind of style to superhero films, because this isn’t just a super flick, but a space opera, too.
The best things about this James Gunn production are the colorful visuals, incredible performances from the entire cast, a great story by Gunn, and, most notably, the soundtrack—filled to the brim with 80s style and love. Another factor about this project that really pops off is the director’s prowess at balancing tone. The way the movie can go from being an absolute goof-fest to some of the best emotional drama in Phase Two of the MCU.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ (2026)
As the name suggests, it truly is a brand new day for Spider-Man (Tom Holland) with the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This Destin Daniel Cretton flick redefines the MCU’s Peter Parker in an excellent manner, and gets audiences excited about what’s to come next for the Wall-Crawler in cinema. This is quite easily Holland’s best performance as the young hero, and he brings forth a character arc that is reminiscent of Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man 2 in the absolute best way possible.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is everything superhero films have been needing: a grounded, honest, and genuine plot about a street-level hero who is simply trying his best to get by. The story here is filled to the brim with heart and soul, and has top-tier performances not just from the film’s protagonist, but his supporting cast, as well—Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, and more. This is one of the best Spider-Man films of all time, and one of the greatest superhero movies in general from recent years.

‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ (2014)
Many will agree that the Captain America (Chris Evans) trilogy is one of the MCU’s best, if not the straight-up best, period. It contains one of the best superhero movies of all time: Captain America: The Winter Soldier. This sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger helped put Joe Russo and Anthony Russo—who would go on to make two of the most profitable movies in cinema history for Marvel—on the map, and raised the standard for superhero movies as a whole for a plethora of reasons.
In many people on the internet’s opinions, the Russo Brothers helped “make Captain America cool.” The smartest thing it does is, rather than change Steve Rogers to fit the world, they changed the world to contrast with him—keeping him the same man, and seeing how that affects both him and those around him. With the emergence of the infamous, mysterious assassin known as The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), and the truth behind him being Steve’s classic best friend, this movie doesn’t just pack a punch in grounded and thrilling action, but in its drama, as well.

‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ (2018)
What can even be said about Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse that hasn’t been said by others over a million times already? The movie that caused a gigantic shift in the animation film medium has to be considered one of the best, not just for its profound impact, but because of how truly astounding the final product turned out. It’s a true hero’s journey through and through, and Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) is quite easily one of the best leading Spider-Men out there. It’s a true coming-of-age superhero tale that is very compelling.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is simply special—there aren’t many other ways to put it. It feels like a generational film that has a quality that only comes around every so often. The attention to detail, the performances, the genuine care and love poured into the product by every single person working on the team, no matter what part of production they’re in, is so clear through the inherent quality of the film.
