Every one of Ian Fleming‘s James Bond novels has made its way to the big screen in one form or another, but not all of them are as faithful as Casino Royale and From Russia With Love. In fact, after all these years, many of them are guilty of just borrowing a few elements from the source material and doing something brand-new with them. It’s especially true of the later films, which might only lift a title, a villain, or a set piece. (Looking at you, No Time to Die.)
But there’s one Fleming novel that stands entirely on its own in this regard. The Spy Who Loved Me technically inspired the beloved 1977 Roger Moore film of the same name, but the movie shares virtually nothing with the novel beyond its title — because that’s all that the author would permit. More than six decades after its publication, The Spy Who Loved Me remains the closest thing the Bond franchise has to a permanently unadaptable story. For one, it couldn’t possibly work on screen. And two, Fleming himself made sure it never would.
When readers pick up The Spy Who Loved Me, they’re often surprised by how little James Bond actually appears. Fleming made a radical creative gamble by telling the entire story through the eyes of Vivienne “Viv” Michel, a young Canadian woman recounting her troubled romantic history before finding herself trapped overnight in an isolated Adirondack motel. The story is divided into three sections, “Me,” “Them,” and “Him,” and Bond doesn’t appear at all until that last part. And even then, he’s been relegated to a supporting character viewed through someone else’s eyes.
It’s an experiment that didn’t go over well. Critics largely rejected the novel upon release in 1962, with many expressing disappointment that Fleming had abandoned the formula of his other Bond books. Fleming himself later admitted the experiment had failed, writing to his editor that it had “obviously gone very much awry.” The backlash became so discouraging that he actively tried to suppress the book, blocking a British paperback edition during his lifetime and distancing himself from it more than any other Bond novel. His disappointment had one lasting consequence for the franchise: When Fleming eventually sold the film rights, he permitted producers Harry Saltzman and Albert R. Broccoli to use only the novel’s title. The plot, characters, and narrative structure were completely off limits.
So, by the time we got The Spy Who Loved Me on the big screen during the Roger Moore era, we were not really getting much from the book at all. There’s underwater supervillain lairs, globe-trotting espionage, Lotus Esprit submarines, and, of course, the iconic henchman Jaws. Believe it or not, Jaws is the only other element of the book included beyond the title. (And even then, his name was originally Horror.) Everything else — the romance with Soviet agent Anya Amasova, Karl Stromberg’s underwater city, the ski chases, and the massive tanker battle — was invented entirely for the film. It’s one of the most unfaithful book-to-movie adaptations ever.
Perhaps the greatest irony is that The Spy Who Loved Me feels far more distinctive today than it did in 1962. Over 60 years later, modern audiences are much more accustomed to stories told from unexpected perspectives and franchises willing to experiment with structure. A Bond story seen almost entirely through the eyes of an ordinary civilian no longer seems outrageous as it once did. If anything, it feels refreshing. Not to mention, Viv Michel is nothing like the other Bond girls who only exist as accessories to 007. Viv carries the novel emotionally from beginning to end. Readers spend nearly two-thirds of the book inside her head before Bond ever arrives. Who wouldn’t love a weird movie sequel like that?
Rather than following the world’s greatest spy, the novel asks what it would actually feel like for an ordinary person to encounter someone like James Bond. It’s an angle the films have never attempted… and, as the future of the Bond franchise continues to be negotiated, almost certainly never will. As long as Eon Productions honors the agreement Fleming made decades ago, The Spy Who Loved Me will remain the Bond franchise’s great cinematic “what if.” Every other Fleming novel has found its way onto the screen in some recognizable form. This one exists in a category entirely by itself: the only James Bond story movie audiences will never truly get to see.

As The Shade Room previously reported, Joseph Alfredo Vasquez Dumarce, a California man, was arrested days ahead of Michelle Francine Edwards. This, for allegedly threatening Chancery Judge Ashlee Cole and her family amid the investigation into Nolan Wells’ death. As The Shade Room previously reported, Cole disclosed that her family was receiving death threats. This, weeks after her son, Warren Hudson, traveled out to Horn Island with Wells, who did not return home and was ultimately found dead on the island.
At the time, Cole shares screenshots of the alleged threats online. The shots showed threats of bombs, strangulation, and “slow” and “painful” deaths.

At this point in the summer, we’re practically done with sundresses. We simply want to look polished with zero effort, and thankfully, Jennifer Lopez has the easiest formula. Her wide-leg pant style makes even a tank top look chic, and we found the look for only $40.
Lopez turned a casual Parisian shopping trip into a full-blown style moment; she was caught wearing a white tank top, beige trousers and a matching handbag. The tank is cute, but her wide-leg pants are the real showstopper. Not only did they elevate her look, but they also elongated her legs, and these flowy wonders have the same effect.

These Willit Wide-Leg Dress Pants nail Lopez’s breezy, put-together vibe. Made from a linen-blend fabric, they have a subtle cooling effect, which is a major perk during the dog days of summer. The elasticized waistband (at the back) gives the pants a stretchy edge, making them perfect for brunches, in-office days and beyond.
To top it off, the wear-everywhere trousers come in four inseam lengths, so tall women aren’t stuck with ankle-grazers and petites aren’t drowning in extra fabric. And if Lopez’s beige isn’t your thing, these elevated trousers come in enough colors to justify buying a few. Reviewers sure are getting them in bulk!
One happy shopper shared, “These pants are so comfortable, I considered canceling all my jeans. Soft, breathable and loose in all the right places — they’re basically pajamas pretending to be real pants.”
Another Amazon reviewer wrote, “If you want to look like an off-duty model, get these pants. They are lightweight enough for all weather and not heavy at all . . . they have become my go-to for everyday wear.”
This comfy-chic pants style borrows the sophistication of designer without the price tag or the stiff waistband. People will think you dropped quadruple digits while shopping on Rue Saint-Honoré, but we won’t tell!

Boston Richey’s latest appearance has the internet talking! Following his public split from Tatiana Chanell, the rapper has continued to pop up on social media. Antony Antoniou, Paul “PK” Kemsley’s friend, is detailing the reality TV star’s fractured relationship and financial hardships with his estranged wife, Dorit Kemsley.
Antoniou claims he learned that the estranged couple were experiencing cash flow issues back in March 2022, per a new declaration regarding the potential sale of their Los Angeles mansion filed on Wednesday, July 29, and obtained exclusively by Us.
In the docs, Antoniou claims he started to advance substantial sums of money to PK, describing the money transfers as loans meant to help PK and his family. Antoniou claims he was aware of the “fractured and stressed relationship” PK had with Dorit during this time.
“PK expressed concerns about the family finances, especially following their separation in May 2024, including his inability to keep up with their living expenses, with little contribution from [Dorit] who refused to make reasonable adjustments to her spending,” Antoniou alleges in the docs.
Antoniou also claimed he discovered that the estranged couple’s house was mortgaged with two separate loans and, as both PK’s friend and a financial and real estate expert, he advised the reality TV star to allow the loans to default and for the property to be forcibly sold by administrators for the lender.
“However, PK wanted to try to preserve this asset for the family and its equity,” Antoniou claimed, per the docs. “With regret, but understandably from a human perspective, he would not heed the advice … Despite not having the funds readily available, he would borrow or use whatever means were at hand to try to save the house, his rationale being it was for his children.”

Antoniou further claims that PK rented a home that “would be a very good fit for children to live in” and offered for Dorit to move into the residence as well. According to Antoniou, Dorit turned down PK’s offer.
“He even offered to allow Dorit to move into the home he had rented so that she had comfortable accommodations in close proximity to the children’s schools,” Antoniou alleges. “She declined his offer.”
PK’s friend alleges that he conditionally advanced $100,000 to PK to go towards his mortgage payments in an attempt to prevent a potential foreclosure — only under the condition that the money would not be released until Dorit signed a formal document agreeing for the house to be sold and for Antoniou’s loan to be paid back in full with the proceeds of the sale.
“I loaned PK $100,000 to assist him in curing the delinquencies in reliance on Dorit’s representation that she would sign a stipulation agreeing that PK would be reimbursed from the sale proceeds so that I could promptly be repaid,” Antoniou alleged. “Based upon Dorit’s representation that she would sign the stipulation, I agreed for the funds to be released. Ultimately, Dorit reneged on their agreement and refused to sign the stipulation.”
He further claims, “It is my understanding that Dorit is objecting to PK being reimbursed for the funds he paid to the lender in the sum of $300,000 on account of the arrearages which included those funds he borrowed from me.”
Us has reached out to Dorit for comment.
Dorit and PK, who share two children, separated in May 2024, one year before the Bravo star filed for divorce. The estranged couple have since gone back-and-forth in court about finances. Dorit, who has not addressed PK’s legal accusations, previously defended her spending habits.
“I can tell you that what’s been put out there is not entirely accurate,” the Unburdened author exclusively told Us in June. “However, now it’s going to be more headlines, because I have to come back with what the reality is. It’s just a snowball. As far as his opinions on what I spent — whether it’s $50,000, $1 million, $25 — it’s money that I’ve earned. I’m supporting our children.”
She continued, “I had asked him from pretty much the get-go for us to sit down and to discuss things and work it out together. In marriage, he was taking care of the finances and the bills. He was making decisions, and there was not a lot of transparency. … That led to a lot of unfortunate circumstances. I think if one person is looking to paint someone in a bad way, or create a false narrative, they’re going to do various things that they don’t work out for anyone,” she said. “I really hope that we can eventually move away from that and into better times.”
Emma Roberts shared one of the most emotional moments of her wedding day with her five-year-old son, Rhodes. The “American Horror Story” actress married Cody John during an outdoor ceremony in Idaho on July 25, with her son proudly accompanying her down the aisle. While Rhodes played a special role in the ceremony, Emma’s father, actor Eric Roberts, did not attend. He has since defended his daughter’s right to celebrate the wedding exactly as she wanted.

Photographs published by Vogue show Rhodes holding hands with his mother as they made their way toward the groom. The five-year-old looked dapper in a white suit while Emma wore a flowing custom Monique Lhuillier gown in a vintage-inspired pink shade.
One image captured the mother and son from behind as they walked toward Cody. Their closest friends and family watched from outdoor seats, with several guests using umbrellas to protect themselves from the sun. The intimate aisle moment gave her son an important role in the celebration and produced some of the most memorable photographs from the day.
Emma welcomed Rhodes with her former partner, Garrett Hedlund, in December 2020.
Emma collaborated with Monique Lhuillier on two custom looks for the wedding. For the ceremony, she wore a gown created in a specially developed shade called Vintage Rose. The flowing design was paired with a sheer shawl and a long white veil.
During her final fitting, Emma admitted that she initially had difficulty determining exactly what she wanted to wear. “I didn’t really know what I wanted,” Emma told Vogue. “I just knew that I wanted it to feel very vintage-inspired. I’m obsessed with antique books and treasure hunting, and I love collecting old ephemera, so I really wanted that to shine through in the dress.”
The custom color referenced Emma’s middle name while also contributing to the aged, romantic quality she envisioned.
To create the gown’s “tea-stained effect,” 25 yards of pink fabric were reportedly dipped into an ecru shade. The process gave the material an antique appearance rather than the bright white traditionally associated with bridal gowns.
Emma’s father confirmed before the ceremony that he would not be among the guests in Idaho. “I love my daughter, always have, always will,” Eric told Page Six in a statement. “It is perfectly wonderful for her to celebrate however she wants, with whomever she wants.”
The 70-year-old actor welcomed Emma with his former partner, Kelly Cunningham, in 1991. He later lost custody of her when she was a baby amid his past struggles with drug addiction. Eric has acknowledged that he was not emotionally prepared to be a dependable parent at that point in his life. During an April appearance on “Really Famous with Kara Mayer Robinson,” he described himself as “not to be depended on emotionally whatsoever” when Emma was born.
However, he challenged the perception that he and his daughter are estranged or that their relationship can be easily understood by people outside the family. “It’s only complicated through outside eyes because they don’t get any of it,” Eric said.

Although Eric was not present, Emma was surrounded by other relatives and friends during the outdoor ceremony. Her aunt Julia Roberts attended with her husband, Danny Moder. Several of Emma’s famous friends also traveled to Idaho for the wedding, including “American Horror Story” co-star Sarah Paulson and Demi Moore.
Emma and Cody were first romantically linked in 2022. The couple kept much of their relationship private before announcing their engagement in July 2024.
Emma exchanged her romantic ceremony gown for a dramatically different outfit at the reception. The actress wore a black two-piece ensemble inspired by a design from Lhuillier’s Fall 2004 collection.
The “boudoir saloon” look featured a custom strapless corset made from Chantilly lace and a tea-length skirt constructed with layers of black silk organza. “I love the idea of wearing black for the afterparty,” Emma explained.
The unconventional color allowed her to move away from bridal tradition while maintaining the vintage aesthetic that shaped her ceremony gown. “We love doing something that’s a little unexpected,” she added. “This looks like it could be totally vintage from 100 years ago, or from now.”
Still, the most personal detail from the wedding had nothing to do with Emma’s two custom dresses. By walking his mother down the aisle, Rhodes became an unforgettable part of the day as she began her marriage to Cody.
WWE superstar Nikki Bella is opening up about her dating and sex life like never before. In a new interview, the “Total Divas” star revealed she hasn’t been sexually intimate with anyone in quite a long time despite her sister, Brie Bella’s, best efforts.
A year ago, Nikki Bella was linked to NFL star Cooper DeJean after the pair were seen getting cozy during her trip to the City of Brotherly Love last fall. After their alleged romance made headlines, Nikki added fuel to the fire when she uploaded pictures of herself in front of the Philadelphia Eagles star’s locker.

Speaking with Us Weekly, Nikki said she’s not been sexually active with anyone in quite some time. “I’m pretty much like a nun at this point,” she said about her love life. “Super celibate. I should just put on a ring.”
But just because she’s getting any action, it doesn’t mean she isn’t interested. “I wish I was out there getting wild. I just don’t have energy for it,” she said.

Nikki’s twin sister, Brie, is fighting for her, though, telling Us Weekly that she’s tried her hardest to connect her sister with someone special. Despite her efforts, things just haven’t worked out.
“She’s too busy, and I get it,” Brie said. “Matteo is her world right now. She’s like, ‘I have no time between being on the road, our wine company and our podcast, and then Matteo. I try. But she’s like, ‘No, no.’ This is the thing with her: If she has a free night, she wants to Netflix and chill. She’s like, ‘I don’t want to go on a date. I don’t have to dress up.’”
Brie, who rose to fame alongside her sister as one of WWE’s most notable Divas, said that even if things aren’t going Nikki’s way right now, she would always keep her head on the swivel for her twin.
“I still keep my eyes open,” she said. “There’s been some prospects.”

Nikki was recently linked to Super Bowl champion Cooper DeJean. The 23-year-old plays for the Philadelphia Eagles.
According to a previous report from The Blast, speculation began swirling around the pair last fall after Nikki shared pictures of herself with DeJean merch on in Philly.
A source shot down the rumors, though, saying Nikki was keeping things casual between the pair. The source went on to say that while Nikki was “smitten” by DeJean, she was simply having fun and living her best life.
In June 2026, DeJean confirmed his romance with Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Abby Summers, and responded to critics who claimed their relationship was a conflict of interest.
“I don’t really think it’s a conflict of interest,” he said, according to PEOPLE. “I mean, it’s not like we both play football. She’s a cheerleader. There is going to be no insider information given either way.”
Nikki’s alleged fling with DeJean came a few years after her divorce from “Dancing With the Stars” pro Artem Chigvintsev. Amid their divorce proceedings, Chigvintsev was arrested on an alleged felony domestic violence charge, something Nikki addressed on her podcast, “The Nikki & Brie” show.
“The past few months, I disconnected from social media, from the world. And I just knew that I needed to disconnect, because first things first, I’m a mom and my son’s protection and privacy is the most important. So I was going to do whatever it took for that, most importantly, and then just needing space, for healing, for facing trauma, head on, all of that. So it’s been tough. It’s been really tough. I’ve been heartbroken, sad,” she confessed.
When she’s not thinking about dating, Nikki is spending time with her sister in the WWE ring. They made their comeback to the company earlier this year after stepping away in 2023.
“We love to wrestle,” Brie said, adding that their desire to throw down is what fueled their decision to return. “I feel like people have really felt our love and passion for the business because we don’t have to be doing it. We have thriving companies and we do very well. But we love it. And we missed it so much,” she concluded.
Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi is documenting her recovery after undergoing a hysterectomy as part of her ongoing treatment for cervical cancer.
“Today’s the surgery day,” Snooki, 38, said in Instagram footage uploaded Saturday, August 1, documenting her pre- and post-op experience. “I’m heading to the hospital to get my hysterectomy. My kids just left with Jionni [Lavalle], so I got nice warm hugs and I love them so much.”
Snooki, who shares three kids with 39-year-old Jionni, was diagnosed with stage I cervical cancer in April. As part of her treatment, the reality TV star decided to have a hysterectomy to remove her uterus and cervix.
While Jionni stayed with their kids during Snooki’s procedure, the Jersey Shore: Family Vacation star’s parents accompanied her to the local hospital.
“You always need your parents, I don’t care what age you are,” Snooki stated in her upload. “I need my mom and dad. … Here we are strolling into surgery. I’m literally terrified at this point.”
In the next slide, Snooki revealed that the surgery was a success while sharing more recovery images.

“It’s starting to get dark. [I think] my surgery ended at 9:30 or 10:00. I’m going to be honest with you: not great,” she explained. “I told you guys, in general, I’m not good with pain, and I’ve really been trying to be tough, but it’s not great. The reason is because we did that C-section cut, and [my doctor] ended up taking out the uterus, my cervix and some parts of my vagina just to make sure we get everything.”
Snooki further noted that her surgeon did not remove her fallopian tubes or ovaries, the latter which she said was so she “doesn’t go into pre-menopause.”
“It’s been a lot,” Snooki continued, wiping away tears. “But, the good thing is, obviously I’ve had three kids, so when you have kids your abs disconnect. … [My doctor] ended up putting them back together, which is nice, because they were totally separated from my three kids.” (Separated abs during pregnancy, known as diastasis recti, is experienced by at least 60 percent of people who get pregnant and can be fixed with special exercises or surgical intervention, per the Mayo Clinic.)
While trying to look on the bright side with her newly stitched up abs, Snooki was still primarily overwhelmed by the pain she was experiencing post-surgery.
“Just dealing with all the pain, it’s not great,” she tearfully added. “I’m doing my best and I’m trying to stay optimistic. I hope I sleep tonight. I have a heating pad, so that’s helping. We got my fan, I have a ton of ginger ale and, yeah, we’ll see what happens tomorrow. … The first couple days is hell, and then it’s going to get better, so I’m trying to stay in good spirits.”
A Minnesota teacher is facing consequences after a classroom incident during a lockdown drill left students and their families searching for answers. Now, Jason Lowell Rogers has learned his fate after the case moved through the court system.
On Tuesday, July 28, Rogers, 49, received a stay of adjudication in Otter Tail County District Court after pleading guilty. Under Minnesota law, the move allows a defendant to avoid a formal conviction if they successfully complete court-ordered probation. Rogers was sentenced to two years of probation, during which he must surrender his teaching license in Minnesota and is prohibited from teaching in any state.
The case stems from a March 2025 incident in which Rogers was charged with malicious punishment of a child. Prosecutors later added two additional charges after allegations surfaced involving multiple students.
According to the complaint, one sixth-grade student said he was lying on his stomach during a lockdown drill when Rogers, who weighed more than 350 pounds at the time, stepped on his back with both feet for about 10 seconds. The student reportedly yelled out in pain, began crying, and said his back hurt so badly that he thought something was broken. The student described the moment as feeling like he was being used as a “stepping stool.”
Authorities later interviewed Rogers, who admitted to stepping on students. Police said the teacher explained he believed students were not taking the drill seriously and that he was attempting to get their attention.
Rogers also admitted to stepping on two other students, according to reports. In one instance, he said he “might have” used both feet on a student. Meanwhile, he described another situation as walking over a student. Following the allegations, Rogers was placed on administrative leave by the Underwood School District.
As part of his probation, Rogers must complete an anger management assessment, perform 90 hours of community service, write apology letters to each victim, and pay $2,250 in fines and fees. If he completes all requirements, the case will be dismissed under the terms of the stay of adjudication.

It’s hard to believe, considering he has been a consistent part of Hollywood for most people’s lives, but it seems Clint Eastwood’s career has finally come to a close at the early age of 96. One of the most famous names to ever step foot either behind or in front of a camera, Eastwood has delivered some of the greatest movies of all time, including the genius Unforgiven, the surprisingly sad Gran Torino, and, of course, as the so-called “Man with No Name” in Sergio Leone‘s Dollars Trilogy of spaghetti Westerns.
The great man’s final movie came just two years ago, where he directed the likes of Nicholas Hoult (Superman) and J.K. Simmons (Invincible) in Juror #2, a legal thriller that would earn plenty of positive attention. On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the film earned a near-perfect average rating of 93%, with Collider’s Jeff Ewing writing in his review that, “The caliber of performances, smart cinematography, and some excellent directorial choices elevate the material.” Of all his many modern movies, perhaps none were as successful across the board as the moving 2004 sports story, Million Dollar Baby.
Considered one of the best boxing movies of all time, despite Eastwood himself declaring the film to be misunderstood, Million Dollar Baby was an enormous hit in 2004, and proved so alluring to the Hollywood veteran that it even pulled him out of acting retirement. “I think I started saying that back a few years ago, I said, ‘I don’t think I’ll act anymore, I’ll stay behind the camera,’” Eastwood said in a previous interview, adding, “but then Million Dollar Baby came along, and I liked that role.” For those who love the film as much as Eastwood, you’ll be able to stream Million Dollar Baby on Paramount+ starting this August.
For a veteran like Eastwood, picking up a major award is just another day at the office. But picking up two Oscars on one night is a hugely impressive achievement, even for him. At the Academy Awards, Million Dollar Baby won an incredible four Golden Statues, with Eastwood personally picking up trophies for Best Director and Best Actor. The other two prizes went to Swank and Freeman as Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor, respectively.
Million Dollar Baby is streaming on Paramount+ now. Stay tuned to Collider for more.

Emma Roberts is revealing intimate details about her wedding day after her father, Eric Roberts, confirmed that he did not attend his daughter’s special day.
Emma, 35, was walked down the wedding aisle by her son, Rhodes, 5, during her July 24 wedding in Sun Valley, Idaho, to Cody John, according to photos published by Vogue the next week.
In one portrait, Emma held onto Rhodes’ arm as they made their way to John, 36, at the end of the aisle. (Emma shares Rhodes with her former partner Garrett Hedlund.)
“A picture is worth a thousand words — and in this case, a million,” the American Horror Story star captioned an image of the mother-son moment.
Emma and John exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony held on the groom’s family ranch just outside of Sun Valley, which the Aquamarine star called her “happy place.” Just one day prior, the now-newlyweds held a welcome dinner at the town’s iconic Roundhouse eatery on top of Bald Mountain, where attendees rode up the mountain via gondola.
“All of the guests took a gondola up to the top. I rode up with Cody, my mom [Kelly Cunningham], and my son Rhodes, which was such a nice moment of calm before stepping into the party,” Emma gushed to the outlet of her pre-wedding festivities. “Everyone left with a L.L. Bean goodie bag customized with ‘hitched’ on the side with a Wythe custom hat inside. It was so fun to see people sporting both the rest of the weekend. Some even at the wedding!”
Emma and John were toasted by the celebrity friends and loved ones throughout the weekend, including the actress’ mom and her aunt Julia Roberts.

“I love you, Aunt Julia,” Emma captioned a Vogue portrait with the Erin Brockovich star, 58, who attended the occasion with her husband, Danny Moder.
Julia is one of Eric’s sisters, alongside Lisa Roberts Gillian. Eric, 70, has long had a complicated relationship with his daughter and did not attend the ceremony.
“I love my daughter, always have, always will,” Eric said in a statement to Us on Monday, July 27, about missing Emma’s nuptials. “It is perfectly wonderful for her to celebrate however she wants, with whomever she wants.”
Emma has not publicly addressed her apparent estrangement from her father or his absence from her wedding, which she told Vogue felt “like it was out of a book.”
“I feel like I’m always in a rush,” Emma noted. “All my friends are always in a rush. My family, we’re always in a rush, so to feel like people really got off their phones, were present, and that everybody I love was in one room, I can’t even capture the feeling of that. I couldn’t have dreamed it better.”
