James Gunn’s New 4-Part Superman Series Quietly Becomes a Streaming Hit

Published

on

DC has dropped a small but pretty charming surprise for fans. Krypto Saves the Day: Coastal Catastrophe, the fourth and final installment in the animated short series built around Superman’s chaos-goblin dog, officially hit HBO Max on April 18. That makes the full four-part run available, and it gives the DC brand another quick streaming beat ahead of Supergirl’s arrival this summer.

Coastal Catastrophe premiered on HBO Max on April 18, and it closes out the four-part Krypto Saves the Day series, which began in 2025. And in great news, the short was launching as production on Season 2 gets underway, with a cameo from Supergirl folded into the beach-set episode.

These shorts are quick, chaotic, and clearly designed to keep DC’s new universe feeling alive between bigger projects. Krypto has already become one of the studio’s easiest crowd-pleasers, so giving him a fresh mini-adventure on streaming was always going to get attention. Even if it’s small-scale, it’s the exact kind of drop that gets fans clicking out of pure curiosity.

Queens, New York

🕷️ Spider-Man

You carry the weight of the world on shoulders that are younger than they should have to be — funny, loyal, and endlessly self-sacrificing.

  • You do the right thing not because it’s easy, but because no one else will.
  • You understand that responsibility isn’t a burden you choose — it’s one that finds you.
  • Whether it’s a neighbourhood mugging or a multiverse crisis, you show up.
  • Peter Parker’s lesson — that great power demands great responsibility — isn’t a slogan to you. It’s the code you live by, even when it costs you everything.

Hell’s Kitchen, New York

😈 Daredevil

You fight in the shadows between law and chaos, guided by a fierce moral compass that refuses to let the guilty walk free.

  • You use every tool available — your mind, your body, your faith — to protect those the system overlooks.
  • You’ve looked into the darkness and chosen not to become it, though the line has never been easy.
  • Matt Murdock’s duality — champion in the courtroom, devil in the alley — mirrors your own.
  • Relentless, conflicted, and unwilling to stop. That is exactly you.

Stark Industries, Malibu

🤖 Iron Man

Brilliant, driven, and occasionally insufferable — but always the person who solves the unsolvable problem.

  • You lead with your mind and back it up with resources, innovation, and a stubbornness that borders on heroic.
  • You started out looking out for yourself, but somewhere along the way the world became your responsibility.
  • Tony Stark’s arc — from ego to sacrifice — is your arc too.
  • You build, you plan, and when the moment comes, you’re willing to give everything. Because in the end, you’re Iron Man.

New York City

💀 The Punisher

You’ve been through fire that would break most people — and it did change you, completely. What’s left is unyielding, relentless, and operating by a code forged in grief.

  • You don’t ask for forgiveness, and you don’t expect gratitude.
  • You see a corrupt, broken world and you’ve decided to do something about it, consequences be damned.
  • Frank Castle’s war is born from love twisted by loss — and so is yours.
  • Uncompromising and unflinching — the world may not agree with your methods, but your conviction is absolute.

Asgard · Protector of the Nine Realms

⚡ Thor

Powerful, proud, and on a lifelong journey to become worthy of the legend you carry.

  • You lead with strength but have learned — sometimes painfully — that true greatness comes from humility and growth.
  • You’re larger than life, yet more vulnerable than you let on.
  • Thor’s story is one of transformation: from arrogant prince to worthy king, from isolated warrior to beloved protector.
  • You bring the storm when it’s needed — and the warmth when it matters just as much.

Brooklyn, New York · The Avengers

🛡️ Captain America

You believe in something bigger than yourself — and you fight for it even when the world has moved on and nobody else will.

  • You don’t bully the small guy, and you never stop when it gets hard.
  • Steve Rogers didn’t become a hero when he got the serum — he was always one. So were you.
  • Your strength isn’t in your fists; it’s in your refusal to compromise what’s right, no matter the cost.
  • In a world full of people taking the easy road, you’re the one who picks up the shield and stands up — every single time.

What Other DC Projects Are Coming Up?

The timing of Krypto’s return also works nicely as a lead-in to Supergirl, which lands in theaters and IMAX on June 26. DC is already positioning that movie as the next major stop in the new universe with Alcock leading the film as Kara Zor-El alongside Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura, and Jason Momoa as Lobo.

After that, DC has more on deck in 2026, including the HBO and HBO Max series Lanterns and the theatrical horror-leaning Clayface, which is expected to open on September 11, 2026. Lanterns stars Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro, and Nathan Fillion returning as Guy Gardner, while Clayface currently has Tom Rhys Harries attached in the title role.

Krypto Saves the Day is streaming now.

Donald Trump ‘Honored’ to be a Target After WHCD Shooting

Published

on

President Donald Trump has said he is “honored” to be a target following the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting.

“When you look at our great presidents, [this] doesn’t happen to people who don’t do anything,” Trump, 79, told reporters at the White House on Saturday, April 25.

Multiple media outlets reported that a 30-year-old man from California was “apprehended” during the shooting. The Secret Service told the media that the suspect’s condition is “unknown,” as are his motives. (He has been charged with two counts of using a firearm and one count of assault on a federal officer using a dangerous weapon.)

“The man has been captured and they’re going to his apartment. I guess he lives in California and he’s a very sick person, a very sick person,” Trump said during his news conference.

“I was totally shocked when something like this happens,” he said. “It happened to me a little bit, and that never changes. The fact, we were sitting right next to each other, first lady [Melania Trump] on my right, and I heard a noise … I thought it was a tray going down and it was a pretty loud noise and it was from quite far away. The president went on, “Some people really understood that very quickly, other people didn’t … I was watching what happened. Donald, first lady Melania and various members of the cabinet were evacuated from the Washington Hilton hotel on Saturday amid the emergency. A Secret Service spokesperson confirmed that the incident occurred at the “main magnetometer” at the Washington Hilton. No one in the Trump administration or among the press assembled was harmed during the incident.

A Secret Service agent was shot but Trump said he’d been “saved” due to his protective gear. The agent was taken to the hospital for treatment.

“The vest did its job. I just spoke to the officer and he’s doing great,” Trump announced at Saturday’s press conference.

Earlier in the evening, Donald confirmed via Truth Social that he, Melania and other cabinet members — including pregnant White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt— were all safe after being evacuated. The president suggested initially that he wanted the evening to continue.

“Quite an evening in D.C. Secret Service and Law Enforcement did a fantastic job. They acted quickly and bravely,” he wrote. “The shooter has been apprehended, and I have recommended that we ‘LET THE SHOW GO ON’ but, will entirely be guided by Law Enforcement. They will make a decision shortly. Regardless of that decision, the evening will be much different than planned, and we’ll just, plain, have to do it again.”

Following the shooting, journalist and White House Correspondents’ President Weijia Jiang told those in attendance that the event would not continue. Instead, it would be rescheduled sometime in the next 30 days at the alleged behest of the president.

Jen Affleck Hints She’s Joining Mormon Wives OC Spinoff

GettyImages-2258788252 Jen Affleck Hints Shes Joining Mormon Wives OC Spinoff

Jen Affleck is seemingly joining The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ Orange County spinoff after all.

The Mormon Wives original cast member, 26, shared a video of herself with the rest of the spinoff cast via Instagram on Saturday, April 25. The clip is set to the Full House theme, with Jen adding in the caption, “Coming to @hulu 2026!!”

Us Weekly has reached out to Hulu for comment.

Fans were puzzled over Jen’s absence when the rest of the cast for The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County was unveiled by Hulu on Thursday, 23. The reality show features Mormon Wives OG Mayci Neeley’s sister McCall Dapron, Aspyn Ovard, Avery Woods, Bobbi Althoff, Salomé Andrea, Ashleigh Pease, Madison Bontempo and Chandler Higginson.

McCall, 36, admitted to Entertainment Tonight at Hulu’s Get Real event on Wednesday, April 22 that she was surprised by Jen’s absence from the cast list.

“I guess I’m curious as well,” McCall said. “I was surprised when we went to glam before this that she wasn’t with us. I heard she was sick, but I have no clue.”

Aspyn, 30, hinted that there may be an announcement forthcoming about Jen’s official involvement with The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County.

“I haven’t seen [Jen] yet,” Aspyn hinted. “I think I will see her soon.”

There have been theories that Jen was set to anchor the Orange County show since she recently moved to Southern California with her husband, Zac Affleck. (The Afflecks share three children: daughters Nora and Penelope, 4 and 9 months, and son Luca, 2.)

In a tearful TikTok video, Jen told her followers earlier this month that she was ready for a new chapter after moving for “the fifth time in a year.”

“In the last two to three years, so much has happened,” Jen shared on April 6. “Between two babies, reality TV show, Dancing With the Stars, moving, identity, faith, life crisis, I’m very hopeful for this next chapter of my life.”

She went on, “I really haven’t had time to figure out who Jen is. I’m still trying to figure that out. I just desperately want to be able to show up for my kids and show up as the best version of myself.”

Meanwhile, her potential Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County costars dropped some hints about what viewers can expect from the cast.

“It’s a very mixed cast,” McCall told Us on Wednesday. “There’s, like, a couple girls that are similar to me. We’re traditional housewives, and there’s a couple girls that are girlbosses with big podcasts and have been in the influencing world for a while.”

The original Mormon Wives show recently resumed filming after a lengthy pause due to cast member Taylor Frankie Paul’s domestic violence investigation. Taylor, 31, denied the accusations and police ultimately declined to press charges earlier in April.

This Sci-Fi Cult Thriller From ‘The OA’ Creators Flew Under Everyone’s Radar

Published

on

scream-drew-1641934604

If you’ve ever wanted to join a cult without actually joining a cult, then the sci-fi thriller Sound of My Voice is the perfect choice. Directed by Zal Batmanglij and co-written by Brit Marling, who were the co-creators of The OA, this movie has the same mind-bending atmosphere, where you question absolutely everything. It has a pretty standard setup of two aspiring filmmakers trying to make a documentary on an influential cult based on a woman who supposedly comes from the future, something you and the characters can easily brush off as far-fetched and deceptive. But as the film progresses, viewers are coaxed into the cult’s warm embrace just as the characters are, not necessarily because we believe them, but because we believe in them. The film is manipulation at its finest, and a must-watch because of it.

Brit Marling Is a Magnetic Cult Leader in ‘Sound of My Voice’

Although Sound of My Voice is categorized as sci-fi, it plays out more like a psychological thriller. The only actual sci-fi element in the film is the concept of time-traveling, something that is never really proved, just spoken about, as the cult leader Maggie (Marling) makes outlandish claims of a future where food is scarce, tragedies ensue, and “Dreams” by The Cranberries is made popular again. Speaking of which, try getting that song out of your head after Marling sings a haunting, cultish rendition of it. Just like her vocals, her presence lingers in every white hallway and creeps into our minds, finding a corner to settle into as it corrodes our beliefs. Marling is as magnetic as every cult leader should be, and as the title suggests, it is the lilting, soft, but reverberating sound of her voice that hypnotizes us just as effectively as it does the cult members.

Your Fate Has Been Calculated
You’d Survive In…

Your answers point to the world your instincts were built for. This is the universe your temperament, your survival instincts, and your particular brand of stubbornness were made for.

The Resistance, Zion

The Matrix

You took the red pill a long time ago — probably before anyone offered it to you. You’re a systems thinker who can’t help but notice the seams in things.

  • You’re drawn to understanding how the system works before figuring out how to break it.
  • You’d find the Resistance, or it would find you — your instinct for spotting constructed realities is the machines’ worst nightmare.
  • You function best when you have access to information and the freedom to act on it.
  • The Matrix built an airtight prison. You’d be the one probing the walls for the door.

The Wasteland

Mad Max

The wasteland doesn’t reward the clever or the well-connected — it rewards those who are hard to kill and harder to break. That’s you.

  • You don’t need comfort, community, or a cause larger than the next horizon.
  • You need a vehicle, a clear threat, and enough fuel to outrun it — and you’re good at all three.
  • You are unsentimental enough to survive that world, and decent enough — just barely — to be something more than another raider.
  • In the wasteland, that distinction is everything.

Los Angeles, 2049

Blade Runner

You’d survive here because you know how to exist in moral grey areas without losing yourself completely.

  • You read people accurately, keep your circle small, and ask the questions others prefer not to answer.
  • In a city where humanity is a legal designation rather than a feeling, you hold onto something that keeps you functional.
  • You’re not a hero. But you’re not lost, either.
  • In Blade Runner’s world, that distinction is everything.

Arrakis

Dune

Arrakis is the most hostile environment in the known universe — and you are precisely the kind of person it rewards.

  • Patience, discipline, and political awareness are your core strengths — and on Arrakis, they’re survival tools.
  • You understand that the long game matters more than any single victory.
  • Others come to Dune and are consumed by it. You’d learn its logic and earn its respect.
  • In time, you wouldn’t just survive Arrakis — you’d begin to reshape it.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Star Wars

The galaxy far, far away is vast, loud, and in a constant state of violent political upheaval — and you wouldn’t have it any other way.

  • You find meaning in being part of something larger than yourself — a cause, a crew, a rebellion.
  • You’d gravitate toward the Rebellion, or the fringes, or whatever pocket of the galaxy still believes the Empire’s grip can be broken.
  • You fight — not because you have to, but because standing aside isn’t something you’re capable of.
  • In Star Wars, that willingness is what makes all the difference.

Sharing the screen with Marling are Christopher Denham as Peter and Nicole Vicius as Lorna, two filmmakers determined to escape their mundane jobs by filming an exposé on this time-traveling farce. To do so, they must win the trust of the cult and ingratiate themselves. They are the perfect stand-ins for the audience, approaching the bizarre situation with a healthy amount of skepticism and curiosity, even as their attempts at secretly filming the meetings are thwarted by the technological limitations of the 2010s. As the film progresses, their beliefs are constantly challenged by scenes that oscillate between disquieting and devastating, forcing us on our toes.

If you must only watch one scene of this film to convince yourself to indulge in the rest, then let it be the one around the 25-minute mark. Marling and Denham share the screen in a berserk and powerful sequence, where Marling’s warm and hypnotic performance switches into something more cruel and malignant. Peter’s skepticism almost shatters in front of our very eyes, as Maggie brutally questions his past, mercilessly tugging on threads the average person wouldn’t dare to. Mix in some emetophobia, and it’s a scene that should be in a horror film. But the power of the scene is that Maggie’s evil, out-of-character moment is just as enchanting as her softer persona.

‘Sound of My Voice’ Represents Cults Like Never Before

Marling may be the haunting center of Sound of My Voice, but its real power stems from its ability to make the viewer feel like they are losing their minds. There are plenty of twists and turns that render the plot a thriller, but the storytelling remains cerebral, where the stakes are in our ability to hold onto reality, and the climax is another shattering shift in our belief system. Its approach to investigating cults isn’t drenched in pessimism or otherworldiness, but a naturalistic simplicity and faith that is tempting. Even as the film treads into stranger territory, it is grounded by ideals like letting fear go and self-sufficiency that are difficult to condemn. We know it’s a cult and that they are generally predatory, but the insidious thought of “maybe this one isn’t so bad” lurks in the corners of your mind. It’s thought-provoking to experience, and addictive to watch.

The 10 Most Terrifying Movie Opening Scenes of All Time, Ranked

These movies said, “No time to waste, let me scare you immediately.”

People are often curious about how someone can succumb to the seemingly outrageous beliefs of a cult, and this film will demonstrate exactly how. Turns out, skepticism is simply the first step to indoctrination, as Sound of My Voice lulls us deeper into its heady embrace. With Marling at the helm, it is impossible not to surrender to this film and let her voice soothe you into a trance.

While speaking with ITV on Friday, April 24, Prince Harry said he’d “always be part of the royal family” despite the challenges they’ve faced over the last several years. His statement came after a reporter asked the public figure whether he agreed with being referred to as “not a working royal.”

Prince Harry went on to say that he values the service he can provide to others in his role. “I enjoy coming to do these trips and supporting that I’ve ever before, the friends that I’ve made, and hopefully, bringing attention to issues that, for one reason or another, drop out of the news because something else has popped up,” he said.

“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution,” their statement read. “We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.”

Days later, Queen Elizabeth issued an unusual statement, revealing that the married couple would be placed on a one-year probationary period while the monarchy fully defines their roles.

“My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family,” the statement read. “Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.”

The Blast reported that Prince Harry could return to life as a full-time royal over the next few years; however, he’d be required to completely forego the life he’s built for himself and his wife.

A source shared that the most practical way back into the fold would require the public figure to not only walk back certain claims, but also apologize to King Charles and his brother, Prince William. The insider further claimed that divorcing Markle could be what the monarchy sees as the “traditional Windsor error-correction route.”

It’s unclear whether Prince Harry will actually follow through, given that the philanthropist previously said he hoped to avoid life in the public eye after the loss of his mother, Princess Diana, in August 1997.

“Loss is disorienting at any age,” he said. “Grief does not disappear because we ignore it… And without purpose, it can break you.”

As Prince Harry and Markle continue building their future, another report from The Blast suggests Prince William won’t be involved.

Royal commentators shared that Harry has tried his hardest to connect with his brother; however, the former has been met with a “wall of silence.”

While the sources didn’t share the exact reason for William’s alleged behavior, they said William’s stance could be influenced by Harry’s public comments about their family over the years.

Another royal specialist, Richard Fitzwilliams, shared a similar view, stating that William sees his brother as “totally untrustworthy.”

Despite the beef with his bloodline, Prince Harry is reportedly getting close to some of Hollywood’s elite, according to The Blast.

An insider shared that Harry has formed a surprisingly close bond with David Foster, whom he reportedly sees as a “father figure.”

Foster’s wife, Katharine McPhee, called their relationship “beautiful” and “so cute.”

Years ago, Foster revealed he had helped Harry and Markle settle into their new home in Canada.

“I was just happy through my friend to facilitate what I could for them, and it looked like they had a great rest,” Foster said in 2020. “They are a young modern family. I’m sure they want to balance their commitment to the crown and be a 2020 family.”

Kim Kardashian And Lewis Hamilton Eyeing Secret ‘Love Nest’

Published

Kim Kardashian and Lewis Hamilton are reportedly looking to buy a house as things seem to be intensifying between them.

Reports claim the pair are looking for a private space where they can build a “love nest” without the fear of being walked into or being disturbed by her kids.

Kim Kardashian and Lewis Hamilton appear to have been nesting together in recent times and were seen packing on the PDA during a surf date in Malibu earlier this week.

Kardashian and Hamilton’s romance seems to be getting more serious as sources say the pair have begun house hunting for a private “love nest” in exclusive areas in California.

Both stars sparked romance rumors earlier this year after they privately met at a luxury hotel in Oxfordshire, England, followed by a trip to Paris.

They subsequently made other appearances, including the Super Bowl in February, after which the Formula 1 star seemingly went Instagram official as he posted a video of them in a car in Tokyo.

While the famous reality star already boasts an impressive real estate portfolio, sources say their search for a new home is more about solitude, especially because hotels won’t cut it due to their fame.

“They want a place that’s just for them,” a source told a news outlet. “Somewhere they can go where they don’t risk having her kids walking in on them.”

Addressing the issue about why they’re not going for hotels, the insider said that “with their level of fame, every time they go to a hotel, it takes a full-scale security sweep equivalent to a presidential visit.”

Adding to the fact that it’s easier to get somewhere private and secure waiting for them, the insider told the news outlet that Kardashian and Hamilton have been considering properties around Malibu, Beverly Hills, and Santa Barbara.

The SKIMS founder seems to have also fallen deeply in love but is reportedly trying to relax more and not force things, as the source said she has been “making a big effort not to come on too strong.”

“She’s letting Lewis make all the moves and pursue her,” the insider said, per the National Enquirer. “She knows he’s competitive and loves the chase. And it’s working like a charm.”

Kardashian is also understood to be “very excited” about the whole relationship, but would rather keep her cards close to her chest.

The couple continues to set tongues wagging and has seemingly been flaunting their relationship over the past couple of months.

They’ve been spotted out and about in recent times, often holding on tight to each other.

On Monday, they took a dip in the waters of Malibu and got fully engrossed in themselves while they kissed on.

They also made an appearance together at Coachella after going to the Super Bowl game in February to see the Seahawks beat the Patriots 29-13.

An insider previously told Us Weekly that Hamilton “has waited over a decade for his dream girl and is crazy about” Kardashian.

Sources close to the FI star also added that he “believes he has finally met his match” with the reality TV star.

Even when they’re not together due to his commitment to Formula 1, Hamilton was understood to be facetiming her “regularly from the paddock.”

Kardashian, for her part, is said to be “incredibly supportive” of his career and understands his “demanding F1 schedule.”

Meanwhile, Kardashian may struggle to make Hamilton a full part of her life, especially as it relates to his relationship with the cameras.

Reports claim the sports star doesn’t have plans to feature on her and her family’s hit reality TV show, although she’ll most likely discuss it.

“Lewis prefers to keep their relationship low-key — much like Kylie’s boyfriend Timothee Chalamet, who has no interest in having a starring role,” a source claimed per a report.

“Kim and Lewis dated for a couple of months before their relationship came to light, and although they are being more public now, Lewis doesn’t want to become a breakout star of that show,” the source said. “Naturally, Kim will have to allude to their relationship.”

“There’s a comfort level there, because they’ve known each other for years,” they add. “Kim’s gone on dates and met people over the years, but Lewis is the first guy she’s really into in a long time. She always liked him. She’s excited about their romantic connection.”

Erika Kirk Reportedly Seen Crying During WHCD Shooting

Published

Erika Kirk was in attendance as shots broke out at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

CNN reported that Kirk, 37, was seen crying as the chaos unfolded at the Washington Hilton in Washington D.C. on Saturday, April 25. CNN’s Sara Sidner said on air that she personally witnessed Kirk leaving the main ballroom, telling aides, “I just want to leave.”

Us Weekly has reached out to representatives for Kirk for comment.

Erika’s husband, conservative activist Charlie Kirk, was assassinated while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on September 10, 2025. He was 31 years old. (It is unclear what the alleged shooter’s motive was on Saturday. According to CNN, a 30-year-old man from California was “apprehended” during the shooting.)

Charlie’s suspected shooter, 22-year-old Tyler James Robinson, was apprehended on September 11, 2025, and charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, obstruction of justice and witness tampering. He has yet to enter a plea.

In October 2025, Erika opened up about the very public nature of her grief in the wake of her husband’s murder.

“There is no linear blueprint for grief. One day you’re collapsed on the floor crying out the name Jesus in between labored breaths,” Erika wrote via Instagram at the time. “The next you’re playing with your children in the living rooms surrounded by family photos, and feeling a rush of something you can only attempt to define as divinely planted and bittersweet joy as a smile breaks through your face.”

She added, “They say time heals. But love doesn’t ask to be healed. Love asks to be remembered. It’s humbling to realize that this magnitude of suffering didn’t steal my love for my husband. It amplified it. It crystallized it.”

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump, first lady Melania Trump and pregnant White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt were all evacuated from the main ballroom at the Washington Hilton when shots were heard on Saturday night.

A Secret Service spokesperson clarified that the shooting took place near the “main magnetometer” at the Washington Hilton.

Reports suggest that a Secret Service agent was shot but the bullet struck his protective gear. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown at the time of publication.

Trump, 79, broke his silence via a Truth Social post where he initially expressed his desire for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner to continue.

They acted quickly and bravely,” Trump wrote. “The shooter has been apprehended, and I have recommended that we ‘LET THE SHOW GO ON’ but, will entirely be guided by Law Enforcement. Journalist and White House Correspondents’ President Weijia Jiang subsequently announced at the podium that the event would be rescheduled within the next 30 days.

“Law enforcement has requested that we leave the premises. … [The president] wanted to emphasize that nobody was hurt. She added, “Thank God everybody is safe and thank you for coming together tonight.”

HBO Max Says Goodbye to Zack Snyder’s Cult Classic Fantasy Epic This May

Published

on

The animated owls in the 2010 movie Legend of the Guardians The Owl of Ga'hoole.

Director Zack Snyder has gone indie after spending his entire career working with major studios on some of their biggest tentpoles. Most recently, Snyder had a semi-successful run with Netflix, but it fizzled out as the streamer recalibrated its operations. Snyder had multiple potential franchises in the works at Netflix, but none of them really took off. Before that, Snyder had a long creative partnership with Warner Bros., where he directed some of the most striking big-budget movies of the 2000s. He was also responsible for creatively overseeing the controversial DC Extended Universe, which has since been rebooted by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Early in his career, following the release of three high-profile titles, Snyder made the surprising decision to pivot to a wholly unexpected project.

That movie is largely overlooked in conversations about Snyder’s career. It’s currently streaming on HBO Max, but not for much longer. The movie in question came after Snyder’s two comic book adaptations for WB — the swords-and-sandals epic 300 and the revisionist superhero movie Watchmen. For his hotly anticipated follow-up, Snyder chose to adapt a children’s novel. What’s more, he decided it should be done via the medium of animation, which he hadn’t experimented with before. The film remains one of only two WB titles that, according to former exec Greg Silverman, lost money for the studio. The other was Sucker Punch.

Gollum

You carry something heavy — and you carry it alone, even when you don’t have to. You were not born for greatness, and that is precisely why greatness chose you. Your courage is not the roaring, sword-swinging kind; it is quiet, stubborn, and terrifying in its refusal to quit. The Ring weighs on you more than anyone can see, and still you walk toward the fire. That is not weakness. That is the rarest kind of strength there is.

You are, without question, the best of them. Not the most powerful, not the most celebrated — but the most essential. Your loyalty is not a trait; it is a force of nature. You would carry the person you love up the slopes of Mount Doom if it came to that, and we both know you’d do it without being asked. The world needs more people like you, and the world is lucky it has even one.

You were born to lead, and you have spent years running from it. The crown is yours by right, but you know better than anyone that right means nothing without the will and the worthiness to back it up. You are tempered by loss, shaped by long roads, and defined by a code of honour you hold to even when no one is watching. When you finally step forward, the world shifts. Because it was always waiting for you.

You have seen more than you let on, and you say less than you know — which is exactly as it should be. You are a catalyst: you do not fight the battles yourself, you ignite the people who can. Your wisdom comes not from books but from an age of watching what happens when it is ignored. You arrive precisely when you mean to, and your presence alone changes what is possible. A wizard is never late.

Graceful, perceptive, and almost preternaturally calm under pressure — you see things others miss and act before others react. You do not need to make a scene to be remarkable; your presence speaks for itself. You are loyal to those you choose to stand beside, and that choice is not made lightly. You have lived long enough to know that the most beautiful things in this world are also the most fragile, and that is why you fight to protect them.

You are loud, proud, and absolutely formidable — and beneath all of that is one of the most fiercely loyal hearts in Middle-earth. You don’t do anything by half measures. Your friendships are forged like iron, your grudges run as deep as mines, and your courage in battle is the kind that makes legends. You came into this fellowship suspicious of everyone and ended it willing to die for an elf. That is not a small thing. That is everything.

You think in centuries and act in absolutes. Order, dominion, control — not because you are cruel by nature, but because you have decided that the world left to itself always falls apart, and you are the only one with the vision and the will to hold it together. You were not always this. Something was lost, or taken, or betrayed, and the version of you that stands now is the answer to that wound. The tragedy is that you’re not entirely wrong — just entirely too far gone to course-correct.

You are a study in contradiction — pitiable and dangerous, cunning and broken, capable of both cruelty and something that once resembled love. You are defined by loss: of innocence, of self, of the one thing that gave your existence meaning. Two voices war inside you constantly, and the tragedy is that the better one sometimes wins, just not often enough, and never at the right moment. You are a warning, yes — but also a mirror. We are all a little Gollum, given the right ring and enough time.

We’re talking, of course, about Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole. The movie was released in 2010, just one year after Watchmen divided critics and underperformed at the box office. Legend of the Guardians tells an epic fantasy story reminiscent of The Lord of the Rings, but aimed at younger audiences. It received mixed reviews and is currently sitting at a 52% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. The website’s consensus reads, “Legend of the Guardians‘ dark tone and dazzling visuals are to be admired, even if they’re ultimately let down by a story that never lives up to its full potential.” Produced on a reported budget of $80 million, the film grossed $140 million worldwide. It featured a stacked voice cast including Helen Mirren, Geoffrey Rush, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish, and others. You can watch the movie on HBO Max, but only until May 1. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.

Say Goodbye to Jesse Eisenberg’s 96-Minute Cult Thriller on Netflix

Published

on

Adrien Brody, Ethan Suplee, and Jesse Eisenberg riding down as escalator as RDan, Leo, and Ralphie in Manodrome

Netflix is removing a highly underrated thriller very soon, and you definitely need to catch it before it leaves. Described as Taxi Driver (starring Robert De Niro) meets Fight Club (starring Brad Pitt), the film follows a lonely, underprivileged rideshare driver spiraling into a crisis of masculinity who finds a sense of belonging in a cult-like brotherhood of alpha men. It premiered at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival on February 18, 2023, and was released in the U.S. by Lionsgate on November 10, 2023.

As John Trengove‘s English-language debut, Manodrome marks a striking shift for the South African director, bringing his distinct storytelling voice to a provocative and psychologically charged premise. It is anchored by an intense central performance from Jesse Eisenberg, who portrays driver Ralphie, and a commanding turn from Adrien Brody, as “Dad Dan”, the charismatic leader of the patriarchal cult. Starting from May 8, 2026, Manodrome won’t be available to Netflix subscribers in the U.S., almost three years after its theatrical debut.

The Academy Has Decided
Your Perfect Film Is…

Your answers have pointed to one Oscar Best Picture winner above all others. This is the film that was made for the way your mind works.

Parasite

You are drawn to films that operate on multiple levels simultaneously — that begin in one genre and quietly, brilliantly migrate into another. Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite is a film about class, desire, and the architecture of inequality that manages to be darkly funny, deeply suspenseful, and genuinely shocking across a single extraordinary running time. Your instinct is for cinema that hides its true intentions until the moment it’s ready to reveal them. Parasite is exactly that — a film that rewards close attention and punishes assumptions, right up to its devastating final image.

Everything Everywhere All at Once

You want it all — and this film gives you all of it. The Daniels’ Everything Everywhere All at Once is one of the most maximalist films ever made: action comedy, multiverse sci-fi, family drama, existential crisis, and a genuinely earned emotional core that sneaks up on you amid the chaos. You are someone who responds to ambition, who doesn’t want cinema to choose between being entertaining and being meaningful. This film refuses that choice entirely. It is overwhelming by design, and its overwhelming nature is precisely the point — because the feeling of being crushed by infinite possibility is exactly what it’s about.

Oppenheimer

You are drawn to cinema on a grand scale — films that understand history not as a backdrop but as a force, and that place their characters inside that force and watch what happens. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is a film about the terrifying gap between what we can do and what we should do, told with the full weight of one of the most consequential moments in human history behind it. You want your films to feel important without feeling self-important — to earn their ambition through sheer craft and the gravity of their subject. Oppenheimer does exactly that. It is enormous, complicated, and refuses easy comfort.

Birdman

You are drawn to films that foreground their own construction — that make the how of the filmmaking part of the what it’s about. Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman, shot to appear as a single continuous take, is cinema examining itself through the cracked mirror of a fading actor’s ego. You respond to formal daring, to the feeling that a film is doing something that probably shouldn’t be possible. Michael Keaton’s performance and Emmanuel Lubezki’s restless camera create something genuinely unlike anything else — a film that is simultaneously about creativity, relevance, self-destruction, and the impossibility of ever truly knowing if your work means anything at all.

No Country for Old Men

You are drawn to cinema that trusts silence, that refuses to explain itself, and that treats dread as a form of meaning. The Coen Brothers’ No Country for Old Men is a film about the arrival of a new kind of evil — implacable, arbitrary, and utterly indifferent to the moral frameworks we use to make sense of the world. It is one of the most formally controlled films ever made, and its controlled restraint is what makes it so terrifying. You want your films to haunt you, not comfort you. You are not interested in resolution if resolution would be dishonest. No Country for Old Men is honest in a way that most cinema never dares to be.

‘Manodrome’ Is the Cult Thriller You’re Missing

Although the 2023 cult thriller is not perfect, it is a compelling watch that thoughtfully explores toxic masculinity and power dynamics in relationships through a story of a men’s retreat. According to Manodrome’s synopsis, Ralphie is a man wrestling with external forces and the demons within, until he meets a mysterious family of men who welcome him as one of their own. As Ralphie struggles to define himself, pressure mounts, and a powder keg is lit that will blow a hole in the lives of everyone he touches, including his pregnant girlfriend, Sal (Odessa Young), who ultimately leaves him after giving birth to their child.

On Rotten Tomatoes, Manodrome holds an underwhelming 49% rating based on 35 reviews, with some praising the cast’s performances, as reflected in RogerEbert.com’s review. Meanwhile, in Collider’s review, the film is described as “an enthralling experience for the most part” and compared to Fight Club, such that it takes the 1999 action gem’s message and ensures the public will get it this time. Screen Rant’s review, on the other hand, notes that Manodrome falls short as both social commentary and a character study, largely due to how it frames the audience’s relationship with its protagonist’s perspective.
