After his discharge from the U.S. Army, Reacher lives life on his terms, traveling the country to wherever he wants, whenever he wants. However, Neagley takes a decidedly different approach in Season 1.

In the wake of her own military service, Neagley returns to her hometown of Chicago, Illinois, where she was born and raised by her father, Calvin (Tyrone Benskin). The spin-off reveals that she’s become a full-time private investigator, working for former Chicago PD detective Gerald York (Joel Keller), and has been dedicated to taking care of her father, who’s dealing with health problems. By the end of Season 1, Neagley and her team have dealt with Echo Canyon Farm and the greater conspiracy orchestrated by diabolical pharmaceutical executive Pierce Woodrow (Matthew Del Negro), billionaire investor Arvid Rawlings (Peter Outerbridge), and Echo Canyon’s cult leader Lawrence Cole (Damon Herriman). Over the course of the season, however, Neagley’s father passes away, succumbing to his illness, and Gerald is killed by assassins working for Rawlings.

In the aftermath, Neagley uses the small fortune gifted to her at the end of Reacher Season 2 to buy her boss’s private investigation firm from his widow for “five times what it’s worth.” She also hires Renee Birdwhistle (Adeline Rudolph) and Keno (Jasper Jones) as her first employees, even offering Keno a place to crash at the office. Despite her personal losses, Neagley won’t be leaving town to start over anytime soon, and the season’s ending reinforces that the spin-off will remain in Chicago in future seasons, marking a major change from Reacher‘s rotating setting.

Neagley keeping to one setting works to the show’s benefit, but it also highlights the differences between Neagley and Reacher as individuals. Whereas Reacher travels the U.S. righting wrongs, Neagley’s decision to stay in Chicago imbues the spin-off with its own look and feel. Throughout the first season, the city becomes a supporting character in the story, strengthening the show’s overall identity.

Season 1’s ending also shifts the status quo for Neagley now that she’s the boss of her own company with other mysteries to solve – like continuing the search for Renee’s missing brother — but she’ll probably still serve as an invaluable resource to Reacher when he needs assistance. Keeping the story in Chicago is the right move for Neagley and its lead while Reacher continues his travels across the country in his own series, which is set to return for the upcoming fifth season, currently in production.

Prime Video hasn’t yet announced a Season 2 renewal for Neagley. However, if the spin-off does return, its distinct Chicago setting has already been firmly integrated into the narrative, giving Neagley a true home and base of operations. (Not to mention, it was great fun to see Reacher getting some well-deserved leisure time at a Cubs game.)

“Unfortunately my parents, you know, were one of those couples that didn’t make it. When they finally did really get divorced, my father would give my mother money every week for child support,” Crawford noted in 2013. “But if he was mad at her because she’d gone out on a date or done something else, he wouldn’t give her the money that week. And that sometimes meant we didn’t get grocery money or gas money. And I saw that and I was like, ‘This will never happen to me. I will never be in that situation where I can’t take care of myself.’”

Cindy has long been close with her younger sister Chris. “Congrats to my sister Chris and her husband Bob on 25 years of marriage yesterday!” Cindy wrote via Facebook in 2015. “Happy Anniversary to you two! Orange was the new black….even then.”

Spooky season is nigh, and that means cable channel AMC will soon be dominated by horror movies, as part of the network’s annual FearFest celebration. This year is the 30th anniversary of the month-long horror-thon, and AMC has unearthed a very special skele-brity to preside over the fester-tivities. Collider is proud to hex-clusively announce that the cadaverous Cryptkeeper, the monstrous master of scare-emonies of the classic horror anthology Tales From the Crypt, will rise from the grave to host this year’s AMC FearFest.

And don’t worry, this won’t be some pale imitation of the Cryptkeeper 1990s horror hounds know and love: the animatronic constructed for the original TV series by Kevin Yagher has been redesigned and refurbished by The Walking Dead‘s zombie master, Greg Nicotero. Plus, the Cryptkeeper’s signature shrieks, cackles, and horror puns will be provided by his original voice actor, John Kassir. It’s only super-natural that the Cryptkeeper should return this year; AMC and its horror-streaming satellite, Shudder, have recently untangled the rights to the original Tales From the Crypt TV series and brought it to streaming for the first time. The Cryptkeeper will host segments on AMC throughout the month, directed by Nicotero.

And what will he be presenting? There will of course be a litany of horror films, from a collection of Stephen King adaptations to the fan-favorite Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Final Destination franchises. AMC is also debuting two all-new horror series. Premiering this month is The Terror: Nightmare in Silver, the third season of the acclaimed horror anthology. This season sees Dan Stevens confined to a psychiatric hospital that may drive him mad, rather than cure him. Debuting next month is the Canadian series Yaga, starring The Matrix‘s Carrie-Anne Moss and Heated Rivalry‘s Hudson Williams; it’s a modern take on the myth of the folkloric witch Baba Yaga.

Who Is the Cryptkeeper?

A loose adaptation of the more moribund host of EC Comics’ 1950s Tales From the Crypt comic books, the Cryptkeeper is a chatty cadaver who hosted the seminal HBO horror anthology TV series of the same name. He also hosted the franchise’s two movies, Demon Knight and Bordello of Blood, and headlined two kid-aimed spin-offs: Tales From the Cryptkeeper, an animated series, and Tales From the Cryptkeeper’s Haunted House, a Double Dare-style game show. His origin story was actually told in the 1990 Tales from the Crypt episode “Lower Berth”: he’s the unlikely spawn of a two-faced freak show exhibit and a 4000-year-old mummy.
