New Scream Movie Is Only For Diehard Fans

In 1996, iconic director Wes Craven rejuvenated the slasher genre with Scream, a film that served as the perfect deconstruction of horror movies. Scream was ahead of its time in many ways, predicting modern phenomena like true crime obsession and paradoxical relationships. At the same time, it worked as a perfect scary movie, one that transformed the entire genre for the better.
However, Scream was delivering diminishing returns even before Wes Craven died, and the franchise later re-oriented itself around a new pair of leads with Scream (2022). Unfortunately, the studio lost both Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, which necessitated the return of original franchise icon Neve Campbell for Scream 7. The new movie is directed by original Scream scribe Kevin Williamson, and while it provides competent kills and fun moments for returning cast members, the sloppy plotting results in a film that only diehard fans will really enjoy.
Sydney’s Coming, And Hell Is Coming With Her
The basic premise of Scream 7 is that a new killer (or is it killers?) is gunning for Sydney Prescott, and they are claiming to be the original Scream villain, Stu Macher. Syd is skeptical and thinks Stu’s taunting video calls are just an AI fabrication, but the danger is all too real when her daughter and her daughter’s friends become targets for the attacker. Now, Sydney must team up with Gale Weathers and other returning allies, but even their combined strength may not be enough to defeat the one type of foe they have never fought before: one who refuses to follow any kind of rules.
The Stu Macher stuff is mostly an excuse to bring fan-favorite actor Matthew Lillard back into the fold, and his taunting video calls to Syd are easily one of the best parts of the film. Unfortunately, his presence is also evidence of the worst part of the film: namely, that Scream 7 is much more interested in wallowing in nostalgia than really building anything new. This is a franchise that once deconstructed the entire horror genre, and every movie was fair game. Now, the latest Scream is only interested in its own lore, and with nothing left to really deconstruct, all director Kevin Williamson can really do is play the hits of yesteryear.
Like Mother, Like Daughter
On paper, that happens through a loose reconstruction of the first film: Sydney now has a daughter of her own, one who is the exact age that Syd was when the Woodsboro murders went down. She’s got a slightly creepy boyfriend who likes to climb in her window for surprise snuggles and a group of hapless friends that soon become cannon fodder for a marauding masked killer. The police (including her dad, the chief) are helpless to stop the carnage, forcing these plucky teens to take matters into their own hands lest they get picked off one by one.
A remake (or requel, or whatever we’re calling all this crap now) of the first film works well on paper, but the essential problem of Scream 7 is that it can’t decide which characters to focus on. We start out with an uneasy balance of newer and older actors, but the film soon focuses almost exclusively on legacy characters like Sydney Prescott, Gale Weathers, and even Scream 5 and 6 veterans Chad and Mindy. While that leads to some great fan service for returning audiences, it creates one of the film’s biggest problems: we don’t really get to know almost any of these younger characters before Ghostface is picking them off.
Ghostface Is Back For More Blood Than Ever Before
Fortunately, the kills in this movie are some of the nastiest and most memorable in the entire franchise, and Ghostface is as viscerally scary as ever as he dispatches victims in increasingly grotesque ways. Accordingly, your enjoyment of Scream 7 will largely hinge on your primary motivation for watching slasher movies. If you’re here for killers looking cool (the kids call it aura farming) and pretty faces dying ugly deaths, this latest franchise entry delivers all that and a bloody bag of chips. If you prefer to get to know the virtual victims before they are transformed into raw meat, you’ll likely find Scream 7 to be the weakest movie in the entire series.
Speaking of weak, the reveal of the killer (or is it killers? Don’t worry, I’m keeping this spoiler-free) is particularly disappointing because the motivation for stalking Sydney comes out of nowhere. In the first movie, Stu Macher and particularly Billy Loomis had tangible reasons for stalking Syd, and discovering who the killers were felt a bit like solving the puzzle of a whodunnit. Like Scream 6 before it, Scream 7 tries too hard to surprise fans with the reveal, and this came at a cost: namely, the killer’s motivation makes no real sense, and it comes in the form of an exposition chunk so thick it threatens to choke the climax of the movie.
Killer Performances From Actors Old And New
Aside from the cool kills, Scream 7 does a few other things very well. The new additions to the cast are awesome: Community’s Joel McHale is weirdly perfect as Sydney’s top cop husband, and the character steals his handful of scenes with McHale’s trademark rogueish charisma. But I was even more pleasantly surprised by Isabel May, who convincingly gives Sydney Prescott’s daughter an aching vulnerability whose pain masks ice-cold reserves of hidden strength.
As you might imagine, the returning actors all do a great job, starting with Courtney Cox: her Gale Weathers is as fierce and funny as ever, and she has taken the characters played by returning actors Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown under her wing as journalistic interns. Those younger characters continue to provide humorous, Randy-like commentary on the violent proceedings around them. But the actor truly giving it her all is Neve Campbell, whose Sydney reluctantly saddles up for one last fight with the ghostly demons of her past.
When You Stare At The Past, It Stares Right Back
Ultimately, how much you like Scream 7 will depend on how much you enjoy the franchise as a whole. As for myself, I’m a superfan: I saw the original in theaters, I’ve listened to the cast speak at multiple conventions, and I’ve got a house filled with way too much Ghostface merchandise. From the perspective of a superfan, the film is decent (good, not great) in bringing back our favorite characters and wrapping up its derivative story in the bloody packaging of some truly innovative kills.
If you’re not a Scream fanboy, though, it’s worth waiting to catch this on streaming, assuming that you catch it at all. Kevin Williamson wrote the legendary first film in this franchise, but now that he’s in the director’s chair, he created a movie that only complete franchise diehards will really enjoy. As for everyone else, let’s just say that if Ghostface calls, Scream 7 will never be the answer to this franchise’s age-old question: “what’s your favorite scary movie?”

Katy Perry is being investigated by police after Ruby Rose filed a report alleging sexual assault involving the pop star.
Victoria Police in Australia confirmed the investigation with Us Weekly in the early hours of Wednesday, April 15. “Melbourne Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) detectives are investigating a historical sexual assault that occurred in Melbourne in 2010,” a representative said. “Police have been told the incident occurred at a licensed premises in Melbourne’s CBD.” Australia’s Herald Sun first reported the news.
Rose, 40, made headlines on Sunday, April 12, after responding to a social media post about Perry’s reaction to Justin Bieber’s Coachella 2026 set one day prior. “Katy Perry sexual [sic] assaulted me at spice market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a s*** what she thinks [about the set],” the Orange Is the New Black star wrote via Threads at the time. (Perry’s Instagram post had joked of Bieber’s set, “Thank God he has Premium. I don’t wanna see no ads.”)
Subsequent posts shared by Rose claimed the alleged incident occurred “almost 2 decades” prior.

A representative for Perry told Us Weekly in a statement on Monday, April 13, that “the allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous reckless lies.”
The statement continued, “Ms. Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named.”
Victoria Police confirmed to Us that the “investigation remains ongoing.”

Rose’s recount of the alleged incident was detailed further via Threads on Sunday. “After it, I threw up on her. I told the story publicly but changed it to be a ‘funny little drunk story’ because I didn’t know how else to handle it,” she claimed. “Later she agreed to help me get my U.S. visa. So I kept it a secret. But I DID tell yall she wasn’t a good person. Instead I got attacked by … Everyone.”
Another Threads post from Rose stated that she “didn’t kiss” Perry but did include further alleged details. “She saw me ‘resting’ on my best friend’s lap to avoid her and bent down, pulled her underwear to the side and rubbed her disgusting vagina on my face until my eyes snapped open and I projectile vomitted [sic] on her,” Rose claimed.
Rose then claimed that she was “not interested in filing a report over this, not when I haven’t even filed a report for the numerous rapes at the hands of grown men,” but that Perry was “more than welcome to sue me.”

One day prior to news of a police investigation breaking, Rose shared via Threads, “Hi! Last update on this: As of this afternoon, I have finalized all of my reports. This means I am no longer able to comment, repost, or talk publicly about any of those cases, or the individuals involved.”
She continued, “This is a standard request from the police and in many ways, quite the relief. I can start the healing process now. And [temporarily] move forward. I love you all so much.”

Apple TV’s 2-Part Thriller Becomes a Late-Night Sleeper Hit for ‘Bosch’ and ‘Lincoln Lawyer’ Fans
Legal thrillers and cop dramas have become two of the most popular genres on TV and in movies, with fans eagerly awaiting more episodes of any show set in a courtroom or precinct. One of the biggest legal dramas to emerge in the last few years has been The Lincoln Lawyer, which is based on Michael Connelly’s series of novels of the same name. The show has run for four seasons on Netflix so far, and after a successful Season 4 that wrapped up just over a month ago, Netflix has confirmed that Season 5 is on the way. Connelly also wrote the series of books that inspired the hit Prime Video series, Bosch, starring Titus Welliver. Bosch has already aired two spin-offs, and a prequel starring Cameron Monaghan is also in the works.
One show that effortlessly blends the nuances between both Bosch and The Lincoln Lawyer is Presumed Innocent. While primarily a legal thriller, Presumed Innocent does feature characters going out on the hunt for justice while searching for clues to the case in between outings to the courtroom. The first season of Presumed Innocent premiered back in 2024, and with the power of Jake Gyllenhaal at the center, it became one of Apple TV’s biggest hits. The show was renewed for Season 2, which is now in production, though Gyllenhaal will not return to star and will instead be replaced by Superman’s Rachel Brosnahan. It’s unclear at this time when Presumed Innocent Season 2 will be released, but fans are rushing to check out the streaming show, leading it back into the Apple TV global top 10 in several countries around the world.
What Is ‘Presumed Innocent’ About?
The first season of Presumed Innocent is set in the wake of the murder of Carolyn Polhemus, a prosecutor at the DA’s office in Chicago. It’s quickly revealed that she was in the middle of a passionate love affair with Rusty Sabich (played by Jake Gyllenhaal), who emerges as the only suspect in the crime. The first season takes place over the course of the case while Rusty is on trial for her murder. Presumed Innocent is an anthology series, meaning that the second season will feature entirely new characters and a new case to investigate.

Now, with season 30 locked in, Levine is making it clear he is not done yet.
Adam Levine Locks In Another Season After Rediscovering His Groove
Adam Levine is officially returning for season 30 of “The Voice,” extending what has already been one of the most recognizable coaching runs in the show’s history.
PEOPLE confirmed on April 14 that the star has signed on for the upcoming fall season, giving fans another chance to watch him guide a new crop of singers.
Levine made it clear that his latest return has felt different from previous years, and this time around, he’s genuinely enjoying the experience again.
“I will be back,” the singer said. He added, “I’m having so much fun doing it. Since I came back a few seasons ago, it’s just been a blast, and I’m super happy to keep it going as long as they’ll have me.”
Meanwhile, the rest of the season 30 coaching lineup has not yet been announced.
Levine’s Return Marks Another Milestone In His ‘Voice’ Legacy
Season 30 will mark Adam Levine’s 19th season as a coach on “The Voice,” a remarkable milestone that shows just how deeply tied he is to the franchise.
The 47-year-old was part of the show’s inaugural season and remained a fixture for 16 straight seasons before stepping away in May 2019.
At the time, his departure felt significant. Levine had become synonymous with the show’s early success, known for his banter, sharp instincts, and competitive streak.
After years away, he made his long-awaited return in season 27, which premiered in February 2025.

Adam Levine Says Timing Finally Felt Right For His Comeback
When Levine first returned for season 27, he explained that the decision was less about nostalgia and more about timing.
Speaking to PEOPLE then, the “Payphone” hitmaker revealed that his comeback only happened because everything finally clicked into place.
“It was one of those moments where we started talking about it and it felt right… and it hadn’t felt right until now,” Levine said at the time.
His hesitation stemmed from the intensity of his original run. After nearly a decade on the show, Levine admitted he had reached a point where he needed distance.
The relentless cycle of filming and public life had started to wear on him, and he felt it was pulling him away from the things he cared about most.
“Doing it for so long, so consistently, for almost eight or nine years of my life, you can definitely start to get burnt,” he explained.
Levine added that stepping back helped him reconnect with music, which had begun to take a back seat during his original stretch on the show.
Levine Balances TV Success With Music, His First Love
Adam Levine has always made it clear that music remains at the center of his identity, even when television success comes calling.
Part of what drove him to leave “The Voice” in 2019 was the fear that he was drifting too far from the creative life that first made him famous.
“I did it for this really long period of time so I started to feel like I was kind of getting away from things that matter to me the most, like making music and playing music,” Levine said.
That perspective appears to have shaped how he approaches the show now. Rather than carrying the weight of nonstop seasons, Levine seems to be returning on his own terms.
His renewed energy comes at the perfect moment. Levine’s contestant, Alexia Jayy, was just crowned the winner of season 29, giving him another major coaching victory.
The latest win adds to an already impressive résumé that includes previous championship seasons with Javier Colon in season one, Tessanne Chin in season five, and Jordan Smith in season nine.
Adam Levine’s Hurricane Relief Plea Sparks Legal Trouble After Copyright Lawsuit
As The Blast reported, Levine’s attempt to help Hurricane Dorian victims ended in legal trouble after a video licensing company sued him over footage used in his 2019 Instagram appeal.
In the post, the musician urged fans to donate to relief efforts in the Bahamas, sharing clips of storm damage in the Abaco Islands to highlight the devastation.
However, Global Weather Productions later claimed Levine used copyrighted footage shot by storm chaser Michael Brandon Clement without permission or payment.
The company argued that, as a musician who understood copyright, Levine should have known better than to post unlicensed material.
The lawsuit was filed in federal court in 2025, nearly six years after the original post, and accused Levine of copyright infringement for using the footage in his fundraiser message.
The case was resolved earlier this year, when Levine quietly reached a settlement rather than continue fighting the claims in court.

Sylvester Stallone Officially Unveils a First Look at Taylor Sheridan’s ‘Tulsa King’ Season 4
Taylor Sheridan has been hard at work this year expanding his TV empire with new releases like The Madison and Marshals. The former is an original Western starring Kurt Russell and Michelle Pfeiffer that released all six episodes over two weeks, but Paramount has confirmed that another season of the show is on the way. Sheridan also made his long-awaited return to the Yellowstone universe with the release of the aforementioned Marshals, starring Luke Grimes and Kayce Dutton. Despite Marshals being the lowest-rated show Sheridan has ever produced, it’s still been a force to be reckoned with on streaming charts. It’s also been renewed for a second season, and Grimes confirmed to Collider last month that there will be more episodes in the sophomore season of the CBS procedural.
Sheridan debuted new seasons of three of his most popular shows last year, starting with Tulsa King in September, Mayor of Kingstown in October, and Landman in November. All three shows have been renewed for new seasons as well, but Mayor of Kingstown is the only one of the bunch that’s confirmed to end with the arrival of its next season (even though series star Jeremy Renner teased otherwise). The most unstoppable show on Paramount+ streaming charts since last year has been Tulsa King, which has been in production on its highly anticipated fifth season for most of this year. Tulsa King star Sylvester Stallone took to his personal Instagram account recently to post a new pic of his now-iconic character and share the news that Tulsa King Season 4 “is being edited and is COMING YOUR WAY SOON!” It’s unclear at this time exactly when the show will finally return to streaming, but it’s a safe bet that fans will be watching new episodes of Tulsa King before the end of the year.
What Is ‘Tulsa King’ About?
The official synopsis for Tulsa King, starring Sylvester Stallone and written by Taylor Sheridan, reads as follows:
“After being released from prison after 25 years, New York Mafia capo Dwight “The General” Manfredi (played by Sylvester Stallone) is exiled to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he begins building his criminal empire from the ground up.”
In addition to Sylvester Stallone in the titular role, Tulsa King also stars Martin Starr as Bodhi, Jay Will as Tyson Mitchell, Garrett Hedlund as Mitch Keller, Dana Delany as Margaret Devereaux, and Frank Grillo as Bill Bevilaqua.

Jada Pinkett Smith is being dragged online after making a rare comment about her past relationship with singer August Alsina, whom she was romantically involved with during her complicated marriage to Will Smith.
While addressing their unconventional relationship dynamic, Jada appeared to offer an alternative take on what actually happened, but fans are accusing her of only trying to justify an affair.

Jada is facing a fresh wave of backlash after opening up about her troubled marriage to Will and her past affair with Alsina.
In a resurfaced clip now making the rounds online, the “Collateral” actress reflected on the fallout from their relationship drama.
According to Jada, she chose to bring the issue to the table on her former Facebook Watch series, “Red Table Talk.” She explained that at the time, she and Will were no longer together, which made his decision to join her on the show unexpected.
However, things didn’t go as planned.
Jada claimed that once cameras were rolling, Will wasn’t fully prepared to confront the situation, forcing her to take the lead while also trying to shield him from further scrutiny.
“If I’ve got to look like the adulterous wife to make sure you’re good, I’mma do it,” she said.
Social media wasted no time weighing in, and the reactions were brutal. Several users flooded the comment section of the viral clip, with many taking issue with how Jada framed the situation and her role in it.
“Never seen a woman go on a tour cause she cheated on her husband,” one user wrote on X.
Some critics went even further, calling out both Jada and Will Smith’s dynamic.
“The only mistake in Will Smith’s life is this pathetic woman he calls wife. She cheats, embarrasses, and mocks him at any chance she gets,” one person wrote. Another person accused Jada of trying to control the narrative, writing, “She’s trying to make herself seem like the bigger person, but it’s doing the opposite.”

“The actual status of their relationship and how they really relate to each other behind closed doors almost doesn’t matter in any of this,” the source claimed, according to the National Enquirer.

Jada has also previously addressed her living situation with Will, and made it clear they’re not rushing to reunite under one roof.
In a resurfaced 2023 interview with Hoda Kotb while promoting her memoir, she shut down speculation that Will would be moving back in anytime soon.
“We will [move back in together],” she said. [But] not right now.”
Pressed on why she sounded so certain, Jada doubled down on her stance, explaining that she’s currently embracing her independence.
“Because that’s what it’s going to be. Right now, I really do enjoy my space,” she shared.

Taking to her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, April 14, Taylor, 31, shared a blurry photo of a vase filled with flowers and a card featuring a butterfly image. “Cried when I got the call 🙏 THANK YOU to those that have stood with me,” she captioned the snap.
The post went live just hours after Us Weekly confirmed via a statement shared by district attorney Sim Gill’s office that Taylor will not be charged as a result of an alleged dispute that halted production of season 5 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives in February. Us confirmed in March via a spokesperson for Utah’s Draper City Police Department that there was an open “domestic assault investigation” into an alleged altercation between Taylor and Dakota, 33. According to authorities at the time, allegations were “made in both directions,” and “contact was made with involved parties on [February] 24th and 25th.”
After news of the investigation broke, footage of a 2023 altercation between the pair, who share son Ever, 2, together, was released by TMZ. At the time, Taylor was arrested and pleaded guilty to aggravated assault. Additional charges of domestic violence in the presence of a child, child abuse with injury and criminal mischief were dismissed.

Taylor is currently placed on a 36-month probation which is scheduled to end on Monday, August 24.

A chaotic livestream featuring controversial influencer Clavicular took a frightening turn this week when the broadcast suddenly ended, and viewers were left fearing the worst.
The 20-year-old was later rushed to the hospital after what has been described as a suspected overdose.
The disturbing incident has reignited concern around the influencer’s increasingly erratic behavior, especially as his name has already been tied to recent arrests, online controversy, and extreme claims about his lifestyle.
Clavicular’s Livestream Took A Disturbing Turn In Public
Clavicular, the Miami-based influencer known off-screen as Braden Peters, was hospitalized after a livestream abruptly cut out during an outing with fellow creators on Tuesday, April 14.
PEOPLE confirmed that he was taken to an emergency room following the suspected overdose.
The livestream began with Clavicular and two other influencers spending time around a mall and a restaurant, where they approached several people in public, including a young woman.
As the video progressed, viewers quickly noticed that the Internet personality appeared disoriented.
He was seen speaking with slurred speech and repeatedly signaling that he was not in a normal state.
At one point, he told the woman, “Holy sh-t dude, I’m trying my best, but I’m f-cking destroyed right now,” a phrase he repeated several times throughout the stream.
The moment left many viewers unsettled, especially as his condition appeared to worsen in real time.
Clavicular’s Friends Noticed His Condition Deteriorating Quickly
As the livestream continued, Clavicular’s behavior became more concerning once the group settled into a bar.
His head appeared to slump forward while seated, prompting his fellow influencer Androgenic to ask, “When did you last take blue?”
Moments later, Androgenic was heard asking his friend if he wanted an “addy,” seemingly referring to Adderall, the prescription medication commonly used to treat ADHD.
The exchange intensified concern among viewers who had already noticed Clavicular struggling to remain alert.
Then, without warning, the livestream cut off. It remains unclear what substances the content creator may have taken before the suspected overdose, and no official details have been released about what was in his system.
Clavicular Was Rushed To The Hospital After Going Unresponsive
After the stream ended, Androgenic addressed the situation publicly on X, explaining just how quickly things escalated behind the scenes.
He said Clavicular’s condition worsened in seconds and that the group acted immediately once they understood the severity of what was happening.
“I hadn’t seen him in this state before and he went from speaking to being fairly unresponsive in mere seconds,” Androgenic wrote.
He added, “Within a minute we all realised the situation, turned the stream off, picked him up and rushed him to the hospital.”
Androgenic revealed that at the time of the post, he hadn’t received an update, which he described as a “good thing.”
He finished the write-up, noting, “And you guys should realise that stimulants can attenuate respiratory depression in some cases, but I didn’t push for it once I realised he was unresponsive.”
Clavicular’s Overdose Scare Comes Days After Tense TV Interview
The frightening livestream unfolded just days after Clavicular appeared in a televised interview with “60 Minutes Australia” that aired on April 12.
During the segment, correspondent Adam Hegarty questioned Clavicular about the “looksmaxxing” movement, an online subculture focused on extreme methods to improve physical appearance and social power. He is widely viewed as one of its most visible figures.
The interview grew tense when Hegarty asked why the social media personality had spent time with controversial figures such as Andrew Tate.
Clavicular bristled at the question, accusing the reporter of turning the conversation political.
“I see you want to make this political,” he said. He then referenced a previous interview with Piers Morgan, during which he had insulted Morgan’s wife after feeling the discussion had become too political.
Clavicular escalated the moment further, telling Hegarty, “Too bad I didn’t have time to look into anything about who your wife cheated with, but don’t try and go down that line of questioning with me.” Hegarty later clarified that he was “not married.”
Clavicular’s Troubled Public Image Has Drawn Growing Concern
Clavicular’s hospitalization is the latest chapter in a growing list of controversies surrounding the young influencer. He has built his online following by promoting “looksmaxxing.”
According to CNN, Clavicular has previously claimed he used meth to suppress his appetite and keep his weight down.
He also said he began injecting testosterone at just 14 years old and had taken other drastic measures to alter his appearance.
Those admissions have fueled concern about the harmful messages reaching his young audience.
His legal troubles have also added to the scrutiny. According to reports, Clavicular was arrested on battery charges on March 26, according to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department.
An Osceola County Corrections spokesperson also said there was a warrant out for his arrest.

Later in the clip, the influencer’s head is seen dipping over to another friend’s shoulder beside him. The footage cuts out moments later.
News of Clavicular’s health comes weeks after Us Weekly confirmed he was arrested for battery in Fort Lauderdale. Taken into custody on March 26, the social media star was charged with misdemeanor battery after a fight broke out between his girlfriend, Violet Marie Lentz, and Jenny Popach, who went viral herself after breaking into the Hype House in June 2020. Clavicular was present for the incident.
Just hours prior to the arrest, Clavicular’s controversial social media content struck a significant chord, going viral after showing him shooting an already dead alligator while on a boat in the Florida Everglades.
