Only 3 Sci-Fi Horror Movies Are Better Than ‘Alien’

Published

on

The Thing

When you hear the words “sci-fi horror” spoken in succession, it’s very likely you immediately think of Ridley Scott’s 1979 masterpiece, Alien. Maybe you specifically even think of the film’s iconic poster, an ominous hatching space egg and the brilliant tagline, “In space, no one can hear you scream.” Scott and 20th Century Fox’s space-set thriller was an instant box-office sensation, won an Oscar for its visual effects, and these days appears in virtually every conversation around the best movies ever made in the horror and science fiction genres, respectively.

What made the film so special? It’s hard to overstate what Scott brought to the original film as a master stylist. Alien is simultaneously visually stunning and intentionally unremarkable, taking a cue from the lived-in futurism that made George LucasStar Wars so fresh two years prior. Dan O’Bannon‘s script is excellent, naturalistically immersing us in the day-to-day of space truckers without a clear protagonist until the third act, when Sigourney Weaver’s cool-headed Ellen Ripley emerges as the sole survivor, blowing H.R. Giger‘s disturbingly sexualized Xenomorph into space in a breathless stinger ending.

Alien is a restrained, yet timelessly disturbing and terrifying landmark film that indeed lives up to its reputation, and as a defining work of sci-fi horror, it’s nearly impossible to beat. The following three movies are masterpieces, too, and they’re the only sci-fi horror movies that are even greater than Alien.

‘The Thing’ (1982)

The Thing Image via Universal Pictures

The financial and critical failure of The Thing upon release in 1982 is a complicated and shameful situation. The grisly R-rated remake of Howard Hawks‘ 1951 The Thing from Another World opened in the wake of Steven Spielberg‘s E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, a hopeful and family-friendly sci-fi that captured hearts and became the highest-grossing movie ever made. Now, contrast that with John Carpenter‘s bleak and terrifying cosmic body horror, and it’s a little easier to understand the reception. Still, there’s really no forgiving the misguided vitriol at the time. The Thing was reviled, and Carpenter’s career was never the same. None other than Roger Ebert, who’d previously championed Carpenter’s work, especially Halloween, said the following in an infamous negative review:

“The Thing” is basically, then, just a geek show, a gross-out movie in which teenagers can dare one another to watch the screen. There’s nothing wrong with that; I like being scared and I was scared by many scenes in “The Thing.” But it seems clear that Carpenter made his choice early on to concentrate on the special effects and the technology and to allow the story and people to become secondary.

Take it from someone who adores Ebert and has read a remarkable percentage of his decades of output: this is the worst thing he ever wrote. Over the years, and thanks to home media and television, The Thing has come to be recognized as arguably Carpenter’s finest film, an extraordinary study in paranoia and isolation. The characters in the film are exactly as they were intended to be, engagingly and recognizably ordinary, as was the case with Alien. It makes the film all the more effective. It’s one of those rare, great horror movies where there’s an external threat, but the question is ultimately whether that’s even the greatest threat at all.

2

‘The Fly’ (1986)

The thing that’s most top of mind with The Fly is perhaps the most surprising for the uninitiated: David Cronenberg‘s landmark work of body horror is one of the best romantic movies of the 1980s. This is one of the most affecting and well-acted cinematic love stories, full stop. Jeff Goldblum gives the performance of his career (a woeful Oscars snub) as Seth Brundle, a scientist whose obsession drives him to fuse with the DNA of a housefly. Brundle’s gradual tragic mutation goes down just as he’s started to fall in love with science journalist Veronica Quaife (Geena Davis). There’s a surprisingly sympathetic love triangle with Veronica’s editor (John Getz), and The Fly packs a staggering amount of story into 96 minutes.

The Fly is body horror that works on many levels. Thanks to the excellent lead performances, it’s most potent as an allegory for the helplessness of watching someone you love succumb to terminal illness. This is a profoundly sad movie that, ironically, is made a little easier to stomach because of the science fiction and horror elements. The makeup effects here won the Oscar, because how the hell could they not? The Fly received substantial critical acclaim upon release, and if anything, it’s only become more beloved over time.

‘Aliens’ (1986)

This may seem like a cheap shot, but so be it. Seven years after the runaway success of Alien, up-and-coming director James Cameron took the helm, in a move that would make or break his career following the breakthrough success of The Terminator. Weaver returned as Ripley, reportedly serving as peacemaker on occasion between the British film crew and tyrannically perfectionist Cameron. It was a troubled shoot, but absolutely no one could deny the juice was worth the squeeze. Aliens takes everything that made the original work and expands upon it, with the added element of it being an action film this time around. Alien is a textbook example of a slow-burn masterpiece; Aliens is one of the most unremittingly intense movies ever made, even when watching it a full four decades later.

Weaver received an Academy Award nomination for her work here, all but entirely unprecedented for genre filmmaking at the time. The actress herself once said that “Aliens made Alien look like a cucumber sandwich,” and while that may seem a bit exaggerated, so much of what gives the sequel the slight edge over the original comes down to this great performance, which is one of the best-loved in film history. James Cameron writes believable action heroines better than anyone, and Ripley’s evolution into matriarch savior is so compelling, especially in a wildly imaginative, frankly nuts finale with Stan Winston‘s Alien Queen.

Aliens enjoyed even more critical and financial success than the first, and Cameron had proven he was no fluke. Alien and Aliens are, deservedly, untouchable landmarks of cinema, and not just genre filmmaking. Both are considered among the finest films ever made, and your personal preference over which is the better of the two will vary.

Your Fate Has Been Calculated
You’d Survive In…

Your answers point to the world your instincts were built for. This is the universe your temperament, your survival instincts, and your particular brand of stubbornness were made for.

The Resistance, Zion

The Matrix

You took the red pill a long time ago — probably before anyone offered it to you. You’re a systems thinker who can’t help but notice the seams in things.

  • You’re drawn to understanding how the system works before figuring out how to break it.
  • You’d find the Resistance, or it would find you — your instinct for spotting constructed realities is the machines’ worst nightmare.
  • You function best when you have access to information and the freedom to act on it.
  • The Matrix built an airtight prison. You’d be the one probing the walls for the door.

The Wasteland

Mad Max

The wasteland doesn’t reward the clever or the well-connected — it rewards those who are hard to kill and harder to break. That’s you.

  • You don’t need comfort, community, or a cause larger than the next horizon.
  • You need a vehicle, a clear threat, and enough fuel to outrun it — and you’re good at all three.
  • You are unsentimental enough to survive that world, and decent enough — just barely — to be something more than another raider.
  • In the wasteland, that distinction is everything.

Los Angeles, 2049

Blade Runner

You’d survive here because you know how to exist in moral grey areas without losing yourself completely.

  • You read people accurately, keep your circle small, and ask the questions others prefer not to answer.
  • In a city where humanity is a legal designation rather than a feeling, you hold onto something that keeps you functional.
  • You’re not a hero. But you’re not lost, either.
  • In Blade Runner’s world, that distinction is everything.

Arrakis

Dune

Arrakis is the most hostile environment in the known universe — and you are precisely the kind of person it rewards.

  • Patience, discipline, and political awareness are your core strengths — and on Arrakis, they’re survival tools.
  • You understand that the long game matters more than any single victory.
  • Others come to Dune and are consumed by it. You’d learn its logic and earn its respect.
  • In time, you wouldn’t just survive Arrakis — you’d begin to reshape it.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Star Wars

The galaxy far, far away is vast, loud, and in a constant state of violent political upheaval — and you wouldn’t have it any other way.

  • You find meaning in being part of something larger than yourself — a cause, a crew, a rebellion.
  • You’d gravitate toward the Rebellion, or the fringes, or whatever pocket of the galaxy still believes the Empire’s grip can be broken.
  • You fight — not because you have to, but because standing aside isn’t something you’re capable of.
  • In Star Wars, that willingness is what makes all the difference.

Pete Davidson Slammed Over ‘Disgusting’ Girl Dad Joke

Published

Pete Davidson at The Pick Up Red Carpet

Pete Davidson raised eyebrows after revealing that it has been difficult for him to watch adult videos now that he has a daughter.

The funnyman instantly came under fire on social media as he revealed he still manages to do so, saying he “powers through.”

Pete Davidson also recently opened up about his decision to get sober, revealing that a “brutal” conversation with his mom led him to it.

During a comedy show at the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas on Saturday, Davidson opened up about how fatherhood is impacting some of his NSFW pastimes.

The “Saturday Night Live” alum and his girlfriend, Elsie Hewitt, welcomed their daughter, Scottie, in December last year, and according to Davidson, it has been “hard to watch porn” since then.

“I haven’t done stand-up in 5 months because I just had a baby; it’s a lot of fun,” he said at the show, per Us Weekly. “[I] got a little girl. It’s weird having a little girl.”

The “Bodies Bodies Bodies” actor then said that it’s “hard to watch porn… in front of her,” but followed up with a shocking admission, saying, “I still did. I power through.”

The reaction online was instant and heavy as several internet users slammed him for associating an NSFW activity with fatherhood.

“Why would you associate porn with your daughter? Those are two different things,” an annoyed X user wrote, while another said, “Pete needs to pack up the comedy stuff for now and just focus on his kid, who can’t even stand as yet, work on new material, and stfu, and this is me giving him the tough love treatment.”

Someone else wrote, “This [is] weird as f-ck. Who thinks about their girl daughter while watching porn?”

“Ew, only a weirdo would think to put p0rn and his daughter in the same sentence,” a fourth user penned.

One critic sounded off heavily, saying, “wtf? ew??? I never once liked this guy because he’s unfunny, but this gives me an even better reason to dislike him. This is genuinely disgusting.”

Pete Davidson Said His Daughter Is His ‘Biggest Gift’

The online criticism is particularly biting as it wasn’t too long ago Davidson weighed in on becoming a father while calling his daughter the “biggest gift” ever.

“The best thing I’ve been telling people is [that Scottie is] the biggest gift,” he told the news outlet about his first month being a dad back in January.

“Nothing else matters as much or intensely, like career, activities, hanging out with people [or] what do people think of me, that sort of sh-t,” he continued.

“I still want to do cool stuff, but it’s like, ‘Well, how long do I have to be away?’ Or, ‘Is this worth being away?’” Davidson added about becoming a parent.

The Actor Called His Girlfriend ‘Very Caring,’ Almost ‘To A Fault’

Davidson also praised his girlfriend for how well she embarked on her journey into motherhood, saying at the time that it was “f-cking awesome.”

“The whole time I was very sure and knew that she would be great at being a mom,” Davidson said. “She’s very caring and, almost to a fault, puts everybody else’s needs first. So, it’s really just sweet to see how on top of things she is, and … if [Scottie is] crying, [Elsie] knows exactly what to do.”

He added, “She has, like, little tricks that get her to relax or calm down, and all that stuff is really f-cking cool to watch and see.”

Pete Davidson Opened Up About ‘Brutal’ Reason He Became Sober

Davidson has been away from performing in front of a crowd as he took time to look after and take care of his girlfriend while she was pregnant. He has returned to performing now and seemingly has a number of stops to make just ahead of summer.

The comedian will be performing next at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York, on April 22, before headlining another event in Winnipeg, Canada, on July 17. He will also head to Tacoma, Washington, on  August 28.

The changes Davidson is undergoing seem to be widespread as he didn’t only spend over $200,000 to burn off over 200 tattoos, but has also gotten sober following years of struggle with alcohol and substance abuse.

During his recent show, he spoke on how his mom’s brutal honesty helped him turn a new leaf as he revealed she felt his addiction would lead to his death.

“I went to rehab this time,” Davidson said, per Us Weekly. “I was like, ‘I’m gonna I’m gonna actually do it so I could save some of this money I’m making and stop blowing it on rehab.’”

“She was, like, ‘Peter, it’s very hard to be your mom because I wake up every morning with the fear that I’ll turn on the news and see that my son has died,’” Davidson told the crowd. “She told me all this on Zoom — from the house that I bought her on drugs. I was like, ‘Someone’s getting used to things.’ That got me sober.”

Here’s What Was Happening Before Clip Showed Papoose Addressing Rumor He Allegedly Cheated On Remy Ma With Claressa Shields

Before the clip showed Papoose addressing the rumor that he allegedly cheated on Remy Ma with Claressa Shields, the women were already making headlines. As The Shade Room previously reported, earlier this month, Remy Ma released a new freestyle, titled ‘W.Y.F.L.’

Furthermore, in it, she appeared to take shots at Papoose, insinuating that he never ghostwrote her raps.

This, after Papoose took to Instagram last year, amid news of him and Remy’s divorce, to claim he helped her pen.

After Remy dropped her freestyle, some social media users believed Claressa Shields sublty reacted via her Instagram Story.

Drew Sidora Faces Homelessness After Judge’s Order

Actress and “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Drew Sidora is currently divorcing Ralph Pittman, with whom she shares two children. Recently, the “RHOA” star lost primary physical custody of the children and was ordered to vacate the family home. Now, she’s responding, claiming that she could be homeless if the order is upheld.

Drew Sidora Says She Can’t Afford To Move

TMZ obtained legal documents showing Sidora’s response to the judge’s order requiring her to vacate the home by May 31. The “RHOA” star stated in the court filing that she lacks the “financial resources” needed to acquire a new home.

Additionally, she has not selected a new residence, which means the required May 31 move-out date creates an extra burden even if she had the money. Sidora, who also has a son from a previous relationship, stated that she and the 15-year-old would be “homeless” unless the court reconsidered its decision.

The 40-year-old actress and reality star also claimed that Pittman’s income is triple hers. That’s not all. She stated that her ex initially agreed to joint physical custody but then had a change of heart in court, opting for primary custody instead.

TMZ broke the story on April 10 that Sidora had lost primary physical custody of the two children for the school year. However, she and Pittman will retain joint legal custody. The “RHOA” star will have time with the kids on alternating weekends, beginning in August.

Per the report, the judge made this ruling after the children had allegedly missed several school days while in Sidora’s custody. Regarding the home, the estranged couple will split expenses until she moves out, due to the “current financial circumstances of the parties.”

As “RHOA” fans know, Pittman lives in the basement of the home. Until she vacates, he will be allowed to enter the main areas to prepare the children for school.

Sidora’s representative said, “This matter is still being actively litigated, and is in the middle of the final trial. The Second Temporary Order is, in fact, temporaryand does not reflect the final outcome of the case.”

Sidora Has Also Issued A Statement

Before Sidora’s reply to the judge became public, she issued a statement on social media. Per The RHOA Talk on X, she wrote, “Some details regarding my divorce have recently become public, though the process is not yet finalized. During this time, Ralph and I are committed to co-parenting and doing what’s best for our children.”

She went on to say that “while certain things are beyond my control,” she’s committed to being a great mother for her children. In the end, Sidora stated, “There is no ill intent toward anyone, just a continued focus on healing, evolving, and becoming the best version of myself.”

Sidora and Pittman filed for divorce in February 2023. Since then, “RHOA” fans have watched them navigate both the legal process and their home dynamic. Now, following news that Sidora claims she does not have the necessary funds to relocate by the required date, many of her fans are reacting, with some questioning how he earns three times her income.

One person said on X, “I hope people feel dumb af. Been calling this man broke because she was in ‘Step Up’ for ten minutes 25 years ago, when Ralph has clearly been taking care of her for decades!”

Someone else said, “What does Ralph do for a living, earning 3X more than Drew?” Another “RHOA” fan asked, “So where are the Bravo checks going?” Lastly, a different social media user stated, “Wait, what, no big bravo or musical bucks?”

The Singer/Actress Gave Up Update On Her Divorce In November

Sidora and the cast of “RHOA” attended BravoCon in November 2025. While there, she spoke with The Daily Dish, giving an update on her divorce. She told the outlet, “That’s what I love about BravoCon, because it balances whatever we’re going through in life…  love it so much.”

She continued, “Actually, I was supposed to be at my final [divorce] trial right now, but I’m here. The judge allowed me to come, you know, because this was important. So, we are continuing on our journey.”

From there, she gave an update on the kids, saying, “Things are still going. It’s been, like, almost three years. But I can report the kids are great. They’re doing great in school, extracurriculars. And we’re just going through a process, you know? Three years later, and here we are. It’s not final, but hopefully very soon I will be able to announce that [the divorce] is a thing of the past. But not right now, not today.”

Which Malcolm in the Middle Roles Were Recast in the Revival?

Published

on

Everything to Know About RHOSLC Alum Jen Shah's Legal Drama

Malcolm in the Middle faced several recastings in its four-part revival.

After Hulu picked up a revival series for Malcolm in the Middle, it was confirmed that Erik Per Sullivan would be recast, with Caleb Ellsworth-Clark taking over the role of Dewey.

The rest of the cast — including Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek, Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield — reprised their respective characters. In addition to the main cast, Kiana Madeira, Anthony Timpano, Vaughan Murrae and Keeley Karsten were cast in key roles as well.

“25 years since we premiered Malcolm in the Middle. I’m so excited… that I may have peed just a little bit,” Cranston, 70, and Kaczmarek said in a December 2024 announcement post. “What a delight that I get to yell at that kid again! We’re very, very excited about coming back together and seeing what this family has been up to.”

The revival was written by Linwood Boomer, who created the original series. It chronicled Malcolm (Muniz) and his daughter as they are “drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party,” according to a press release.

It was later revealed that Per Sullivan got a hefty offer to return for the Malcolm in the Middle revival, but he ultimately said no.

Per Sullivan’s onscreen mom, Kaczmarek, was asked about his absence from the upcoming four-part special, telling The Guardian in April 2026 that the retired actor is “studying Dickens and is an incredible student.”

“They offered him buckets of money to come back, and he just said, ‘No, thank you,’” she added.

Kaczmarek previously defended Per Sullivan’s decision to stay out of the spotlight.

“I admire it because so many people think being in show business is the greatest thing in the world. It’s not for everyone,” she said in a 2024 interview about how Per Sullivan is a student at “a very prestigious American university.”

Star Trek’s Funniest Technobabble Was Never Actually Spoken Onscreen

Star Trek’s Funniest Technobabble Was Never Actually Spoken Onscreen

By Chris Snellgrove
| Published

One of the most divisive elements of Star Trek is “technobabble,” the term given to characters’ pseudo-scientific explanations for all of the crazy stuff they are doing or saying. This is a franchise where two characters traveled so fast they became breeding-crazed lizard people; a franchise where everyone is addicted to a freak-friendly VR technology that tries to kill them every week. Heck, this is a franchise where a character is forced into a new body one day and forced into a musical the next day. No matter what happens, though, there will always be technobabble to make it sound like this craziness has a perfectly reasonable scientific explanation.

Amazingly, though, the best Star Trek technobabble of all time was never spoken onscreen. When various writers and producers were working on Voyager, they struggled to come up with a name for Robert Picardo’s cranky medical chief. Eventually, they gave up, and he simply went by the name of the Doctor. Originally, though, they thought they might name him Doctor Zimmerman. As a result, the stage directions for when he materialized out of thin air got an affectionate nickname in scripts: writers wrote how Picardo “zimmers in” and “zimmers out” of scenes.

The Hologram With No Name

The idea of naming Picardo’s holographic medical officer Doctor Zimmerman goes back to the original script for Voyager’s first episode, “Caretaker.” Regarding this character, the script mentioned that “He has no name for now… but we will get to know him in time as Doc Zimmerman.” Incidentally, this last name was meant to honor Herman Zimmerman, an art director and production designer who worked on the franchise throughout the entire Golden Age of Star Trek.

Writers took their cues from this early script, and they began describing Picardo’s character as Doc Zimmerman in every script for Voyager’s first season. They were really committed to this name, and they even released promotional materials to the public that used it. Because of this, the writers came up with a cheeky nickname for the distinctive sound effect of the holographic Doctor popping out of thin air. As an homage to the character’s intended name, stage directions included how the Doctor “zimmers in” and “zimmers out” of scenes.

Holo Physician, Heal Thyself

Early on in Star Trek: Voyager, Robert Picardo’s character considered taking on a name for himself, but he never found one that fit. Behind the scenes, the same thing happened to the writers. You see, by the time Season 2 rolled around, they took a page out of Doctor Who’s book and simply referred to this character as the Doctor in various scripts. However, the writers didn’t give up on the idea of introducing a Doctor Zimmerman into the show. Eventually, both Voyager and Deep Space Nine featured appearances by Lewis Zimmerman, the cranky scientist who created the Emergency Medical Hologram in his own image.

In the Voyager episode “Life Line,” the Doctor got to meet his maker, helping cure Lewis Zimmerman of what would otherwise have been a terminal illness. This gave the two a chance to reconnect, and while they clashed at first, they eventually reconciled. By the end of the episode, Zimmerman told the Doctor to keep writing subspace communiques whenever he got the chance. This made for a heartwarming reconciliation that brought this technobabble saga full circle: now that the EMH had “zimmered in’ to his maker’s life, his photon-loving father never wanted him to “zimmer out,” ever again.

During an appearance at the University of San Francisco’s Silk Speaker Series, Kidman shared the surprising news that she is training to become a death doula.

The 58-year-old actress admitted to the audience that while the career move “sounds a little weird,” it is a deeply personal goal born from the grief she experienced following her mother’s passing in 2024.

Kidman reflected on how her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, felt lonely during her final days at age 84. Despite the efforts of Kidman and her sister, the demands of their large families and high-pressure careers made it difficult to provide the constant presence their mother needed, especially since their father had passed away in 2014.

This realization led Kidman to appreciate the role of end-of-life doulas, who offer emotional, spiritual, and practical support to ensure dignity during the dying process, per the San Francisco Chronicle.

“So that’s part of my expansion and one of the things I will be learning,” she said, explaining that this new endeavor was a vital addition to her life and skills.

The sudden loss of Janelle Ann in September 2024 served as the primary catalyst for Kidman’s deep reflection on the end-of-life process.

Despite being honored with the Best Actress award at the Venice Film Festival for her role in the film “Babygirl,” the actress was forced to skip the prestigious ceremony to be with her family.

In a moving statement read on her behalf by director Halina Reijn, Kidman expressed her absolute shock and heartbreak upon discovering the news shortly after she arrived in Italy, per The Blast.

In her emotional message to the festival audience, she dedicated her win to her mother, stating, “She shaped me and made me.” She described the “collision of life and art” as heartbreaking, noting that her mother’s influence was the driving force behind her successful career.

The profound heartbreak felt in Venice was only the beginning of a period where the actress began to engage more deeply with the concept of human existence.

In a candid interview after, Kidman opened up about how entering her 50s has made her more attuned to her own mortality and the weight of life’s emotional depths.

According to The Blast, she admitted that she no longer tries to numb her feelings, instead choosing to remain “fully in it” as she navigates the complexities of marriage, raising children, and the painful loss of her parents.

These raw emotions often manifest in intense physical ways, with Kidman revealing that she sometimes wakes up at 3 a.m, “crying and gasping” as the reality of life’s journey hits her.

Romantic Speculations Recently Surrounded Nicole Kidman And Simon Baker

The intensity of Kidman’s emotional journey was further complicated by the public’s constant scrutiny of her personal life and relationships. Following her recent split from Keith Urban, all eyes were on Kidman during the premiere of her latest television project.

Dressed in Chanel couture, the actress appeared poised, but it was her interactions with co-star Simon Baker that became the primary focus of media attention.

According to The Blast, the visible closeness between Kidman and Baker at the premiere quickly fueled speculation about the nature of their relationship, especially given the timing of her separation from Urban.

The two appeared strikingly comfortable and even affectionate while posing together, leading fans to question if their bond extended beyond the professional realm. However, despite the widespread curiosity and circulating photos, insiders have been quick to suggest that the narrative may not be as dramatic as it seems.

While the actress and Baker’s relationship reportedly remains professional, the fallout from their public display of affection reached her former inner circle.

According to The Blast, reports suggest that the close red carpet appearance has deeply unsettled her ex-husband, Urban, who reportedly feels betrayed by the situation.

Despite being told that the affectionate gestures were merely promotional, Urban is said to be struggling with the public nature of their bond, leading to significant tension between the former friends.

Britney Spears is reportedly taking steps toward recovery after a recent legal scare.

The pop icon has checked into rehab following a DUI arrest in March. The situation allegedly left her deeply embarrassed, especially over how it might impact her sons. According to sources, the incident became a turning point, with her family rallying around her and encouraging her to seek help.

Now, as Spears begins her recovery journey, fans have been flooding social media with messages of support. Like her family, many of her supporters hope this moment marks a positive new chapter for the singer.

Spears has reportedly taken a major step toward recovery by voluntarily checking herself into a residential treatment facility, per TMZ. The decision marks a notable shift from previous episodes in her life when treatment was driven by court orders or family intervention.

Spears has long faced struggles with drug and alcohol addiction, which previously culminated in a highly publicized mental health crisis in the late 2000s. More recently, she’s sparked concern with a series of erratic social media posts and reports of reckless behavior, including her recent DUI arrest.

“She realizes she hit rock bottom,” a source close to the singer shared.

The move may also carry legal implications, as Spears is said to be aware that entering treatment could reflect positively ahead of any court proceedings tied to her DUI case. Still, sources emphasize that beyond optics, she is taking her recovery seriously.

In light of Spears’ decision to go to rehab, the pop star’s loyal fanbase has been flooding social media with messages of support.

While many acknowledged that her struggles with substance abuse have been ongoing for years, the overwhelming sentiment online was one of cautious optimism and empathy.

“I’m praying to every god right now she doesn’t end up back in that conservatorship,” one user wrote on X. Another added, “Poor Britney Spears. She’s all messed up. I hope she gets the help she needs.”

Others pointed to the intense scrutiny she’s faced throughout her career, with one fan noting, “At this point, we just want her to be healthy and at peace. The media has been on her back for decades. I really hope she’s getting the actual privacy and help she deserves this time.”

Britney Spears Arrested For DUI Weeks Before Rehab Move

Spears’ decision to enter rehab comes on the heels of the DUI arrest that raised fresh concerns about her well-being.

According to reports, the singer was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol in March after allegedly driving her BMW erratically at a high speed. Officers at the scene noted signs of impairment, prompting Spears to undergo a series of field sobriety tests before being transported to a hospital for a blood draw.

She was released from custody less than 12 hours later but is expected to appear in Ventura County Superior Court in the coming weeks to face the charges.

Sources say Spears has since checked into an inpatient wellness facility in the U.S., where programs typically last around 30 days.

Spears’ Rep Condemned Her Behavior

While addressing Spears’ actions following the DUI arrest, a representative of the “Stronger” singer did not hold back.

In a statement shared with the BBC, the rep condemned the singer’s behavior and emphasized that there was no excuse for what happened. They also revealed that her family was working on a structured plan to help her move toward a healthier and more stable future.

“Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life,” the statement read.

Britney Spears Was ‘Embarrassed’ By Her Arrest

Spears was said to have felt “embarrassed” after her DUI arrest, an emotion that may have played a role in her decision to seek treatment.

Sources say the pop star was particularly concerned about how the situation could impact her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, whom she shares with ex Kevin Federline.

“She’s very emotional and regretful this morning. She’s also embarrassed because of how it could affect her sons,” an insider said, per PEOPLE.

Netflix’s Lazy ‘Jaws’ Ripoff Fails To Hook Critics Despite Streaming Success

Published

on

thrash-poster.jpg

Netflix has done it once again with an instantly successful shark feature, but critics aren’t very impressed. The film, like many of that genre, borrows heavily from Steven Spielberg‘s iconic 1975 thriller, Jaws, which features a great white shark terrorizing people in a New England summer resort town. However, unlike Jaws, a disastrous hurricane is thrown into the mix, making the stakes even higher as it brings with it a school of bull sharks, which are smaller and faster than great whites, but just as ravenous.

Released on April 10, 2026, the Netflix favorite is from writer-director Tommy Wirkola, known for the fantasy film Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton. Titled Thrash, it shot up the global streaming ranking within 48 hours of its release, dominating major titles such as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Idris Elba’s Beast, and Ryan Reynolds’ IF. While it still ranks #1 on Netflix, critics have issued their verdict on the movie, sinking it with an embarrassingly low rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Based on 31 reviews, 20 of which are disapproving, Thrash has a 35% critics’ score on the review aggregator website as of this publication. Its audience score isn’t any better, with an abysmal 29% from over 250 ratings. No consensus has been published yet; however, as seen in most reviews, Thrash is being trashed as a film not worth watching. According to RogerEbert.com, which rates the survival thriller 1.5 out of 4, “its worst sin isn’t its stupid characters doing stupid things; it’s that the whole thing feels remarkably lazy, failing to find any tension or even B-movie thrills.”

Your Assignment Has Been Made
You Belong In…

Your answers have pointed to one fictional hospital above all others. This is the ward your instincts, your temperament, and your particular brand of dysfunction were built for.

Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center

The Pitt

You are built for the most unsparing version of emergency medicine television has ever shown — one that puts you inside a single fifteen-hour shift and doesn’t let you look away.

  • You need your work to be real, not romanticised — meaning over drama, honesty over aesthetics.
  • You find purpose inside the work itself, not in the chaos surrounding it.
  • You’ve made peace with the fact that this job takes from you constantly, and gives back in ways that are harder to name.
  • Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center demands exactly that kind of person — and you would not want to be anywhere else.

County General Hospital, Chicago

ER

You are the person who keeps the whole floor running — not the most brilliant in the room, but possibly the most essential.

  • You show up, do the work, absorb the losses, and come back the next day without needing the job to be anything other than what it is.
  • You care about patients as individual human beings, not as cases to solve or dramas to live through.
  • You believe in the system even when it fails you — and you understand that emergency medicine is about holding the line just long enough.
  • ER is television about endurance. You have it.

Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, Seattle

Grey’s Anatomy

You came to medicine with your whole self — your ambition, your emotions, your relationships, your history — and you have never quite managed to leave any of it at the door.

  • You feel things fully and form deep attachments to the people you work with.
  • Your personal and professional lives are permanently, chaotically entangled — and that entanglement drives both your greatest disasters and your most remarkable saves.
  • You understand that extraordinary medicine often happens at the intersection of clinical skill and profound human connection.
  • It’s messy at Grey Sloan. You would not have it any other way.

Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, NJ

House

You are drawn to the problem above everything else — the symptom that doesn’t fit, the diagnosis hiding underneath the obvious one.

  • You’re not primarily motivated by the patient as a person — though you are capable of caring, even if you’d deny it.
  • You work best when the stakes are highest and the standard answer is wrong.
  • Princeton-Plainsboro exists to house one extraordinary, impossible mind — and everyone around that mind is there because they’re smart enough to keep up.
  • The only way forward here is to think harder than everyone else in the room. That is exactly what you do.

Sacred Heart Hospital, California

Scrubs

You understand that medicine is tragic and absurd in almost equal measure — and that the only sane response is to hold both of those things at the same time.

  • You are warm, self-aware, and funnier than most people in your field.
  • You use humour to get through terrible moments — and at Sacred Heart, that’s not a flaw, it’s a survival strategy.
  • You lean on the people around you and let them lean back. The laughter and the grief are genuinely inseparable here.
  • Scrubs is a show about learning to become someone worthy of the job. You are still very much in the middle of that process — which is exactly right.

What Do Audiences Have To Say About ‘Thrash’?

Despite being a worldwide streaming sensation, Thrash has a pretty poor reputation among audiences, as seen on Rotten Tomatoes. Some reviews describe it as a disappointing waste of time, with less-than-average acting and an even worse script. One such review reads, “The acting is horrible! The story and script [are] very mediocre… I feel like the film was just rushed… It’s [the] #1 movie on Netflix right now because it is a shark movie, but that doesn’t mean it’s good.” Nevertheless, not all Thrash reviews are bad; there is some praise here and there. One positive review notes that the movie is clearly not a masterpiece but is purely entertaining and provides “an enjoyable experience for fans of the genre.”

Thrash, starring Phoebe Dynevor, Whitney Peak, and Djimon Hounsou, streams on Netflix. Stay tuned to Collider for more news.
