10 Praiseworthy Thrillers That No One Remembers
The broad versatility and nail-biting tension of the thriller have helped it become one of the most acclaimed and celebrated genres in film history. Several of the greatest films of all time are a part of this timeless genre, ranging from classic films like Psycho to recent masterpieces like Parasite. However, the inherent greatness of the thriller genre goes well beyond the confines of the most recognizable films. Indeed, many truly praiseworthy thrillers have been largely forgotten by the majority of people.
Whether it’s films that were initially celebrated but have become less accessible in the digital era or those that were overlooked since their initial release, there are many ways a thriller of genuine, well-crafted quality can end up forgotten by modern audiences. One can only hope that, through a list like this and continued conversation about the strengths of these films, their notoriety can spread by word of mouth, and they can become as notable and recognizable as they deserve to be.
‘Emergency’ (2022)
Emergency is a clear example of how to translate the classic college coming-of-age film into an effective comedic thriller, not holding back in terms of either its comedy or some extremely dark, heavy themes. The film is rife with social commentary and importance to the modern day, following a trio of college students tasked with weighing the pros and cons of calling the police when they find a mysterious, unconscious, white teenage girl in their living room.
While it certainly has its moments of fun poking at the absurdity of this classic college comedy concept, it doesn’t take long before the gravitas and impact of this previously silly concept latch onto the characters and add tension to the film. It takes a step back from the goofiness of Hollywood plots and tackles this story from a more grounded, bleak reality. While it received a positive reception when it premiered at Sundance in 2022, its lukewarm debut on Amazon Prime Video held back its potential as a true icon of 2020s thrillers.
‘New Jack City’ (1991)
New Jack City is simply a victim of overwhelming competition when it comes to telling stories of African American gangsters and underground crime of the modern age. Its dynamic story and memorable characters were massively acclaimed when it debuted at Sundance, even more so when it was released only a few months later in March and made a box-office killing on its relatively small budget. It has a sleek style that gives it an edge even among other crime thrillers of the ’90s.
However, when people think back on Black-directed crime movies from 1991, New Jack City always comes in 2nd place to John Singleton‘s masterpiece, Boyz n the Hood, which was released only a few months later in July. This constant point of comparison has largely impacted the film’s legacy and strengths in the decades since its release. Nowadays, New Jack City is sadly only really remembered as the film that features the iconic meme of Wesley Snipes crying while pointing a gun.
‘The Stanford Prison Experiment’ (2015)
Adapting the grueling reality of one of the most sickening and controversial psychological experiments ever conducted, The Stanford Prison Experiment was always going to be a painful and uncomfortable watch. However, the unrelenting levels that the film reaches in order to accurately portray the painful experiences of these students make it such a difficult watch; in some ways, it even halted its legacy beyond initial viewings.
A great, challenging thriller can find great success, and while The Stanford Prison Experiment is certainly worthy of praise and notoriety, it’s not polished enough to warrant multiple watches, and its relentless cruelty makes it an even tougher sell. Its usage of some poorly aged stars at its center, like Ezra Miller, has only further diluted its potential to be truly appreciated in the modern age, even if it stands as the definitive portrayal of this important moment in psychological history.
‘Operation Avalanche’ (2016)
Director Matt Johnson has been on an absolute roll lately with critically acclaimed fan-favorites like BlackBerry and Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie, as well as exciting upcoming releases like Tony. However, long before his recent explosion in cinematic popularity, he was defying notions and actively breaking rules to bring to life a striking portrayal of conspiracy and its consequences in Operation Avalanche. The film sees a group of undercover CIA agents in 1967 forging a plan to fake the moon landing after realizing they won’t make it to the moon in time.
While the film saw some recent discourse and discussion due to its premise being loosely copied by the box-office bomb Fly Me to the Moon a few years back, it massively does a disservice to the symbolic brilliance and compelling thrills that Johnson creates in Operation Avalanche. So many other thrillers are quick to glorify and draw excitement at the concepts of conspiracy and government secrets, and while Operation Avalanche begins with such enthusiasm, it eventually becomes a harrowing story of dread as all loose ends are inevitably tied up.
‘D.O.A.’ (1988)
Placing the main character on a looming clock and racing against time is one of the quickest ways to continuously ramp up tension and raise stakes over the course of the film, a prospect expertly utilized by forgotten ’80s thriller D.O.A. The film sees Dennis Quaid as a college professor who finds himself at the center of various murders. His quest for the culprit becomes a race against time when he is given a deadly poison with only 24 hours to get the antidote.
Between the overarching mystery of the entire night, the wild chaos and tension of the poison coursing through the protagonist’s body, and a great supporting performance from Meg Ryan, D.O.A. delivers exactly what one wants out of an ’80s mystery thriller. Sadly, reception to the film from critics and audiences of the era was largely middling, despite its insightful and self-aware execution of classic noir themes and mystery thriller conventions.
‘White Dog’ (1982)
One of the inherent difficulties of an ever-growing appreciation towards dynamic and difficult themes is that a well-crafted film can take decades before being truly appreciated. It’s exactly what hindered White Dog from being celebrated as the powerful horror thriller melodrama that it is. The film follows a Black dog trainer attempting to retrain a stray dog that has been trained specifically to attack Black people.
The painful and uncomfortable exploration of racism and its disheartening impact on one’s perception made White Dog wildly controversial, with a string of negative press coverage causing many to believe that the film itself was racist, leading to Paramount shelving the theatrical release, limiting the film’s availability, as it wouldn’t get a true home video release until December 2008, thanks to the Criterion Collection. While people are now beginning to witness its greatness, it’s still massively niche as far as ’80s horror thrillers are concerned.
‘Yes, Madam!’ (1986)
Michelle Yeoh‘s first leading role, which helped establish her strengths as an icon of the action thriller genre, was Yes, Madam, which has largely been forgotten by audiences aside from its relation and importance to Yeoh’s early career. However, the film has so many exceptional strengths that go beyond the all-star lead performance from Yeoh. Its entertaining story of thievery, tension, and underground crime that makes it an absolute blast that has aged gracefully to the modern age of action thrillers.
The martial arts film may have 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, but outside the highly dedicated die-hard fans of the kung fu genre, many thriller fans are completely unaware of the brilliance of this all-time classic. The film follows a duo of unlucky thieves breaking into the hotel room of a recently murdered man, stealing his passport, and unknowingly also stealing a hidden microfilm desired by a powerful triad crime boss.
‘The Butcher’ (1970)
Thrillers, as a genre, are already subject to more striking and polarizing stories compared to other genres. Thus, the prospect of international thrillers that don’t have to adhere to Hollywood guidelines often results in more unrestrained and dynamic filmmaking. One of the most exceptional examples of such is the French psychological thriller The Butcher, which follows a butcher falling in love with a school teacher while a murder spree shakes their town.
There’s an inherent brilliance to The Butcher in how it approaches tension and uneasiness with its storytelling and filmmaking, setting the stage for unnerving distrust even when the truth doesn’t require such worrying. It stands as an insightful and effective reflection on trust and acceptance of the world’s cruelty, making it a hidden gem of a French film that deserves far more appreciation in the modern era.
‘Bullet Ballet’ (1998)
Bullet Ballet has the kind of wild, immediately striking concept that hooks the audience from the first scene and has them latching onto the dynamics and psyches of its intricate characters. The wild Japanese crime thriller follows a depressed man who, after his girlfriend commits suicide, finds himself caught up in an ongoing gang struggle while he attempts to retrieve a gun so that he can end his life. The film utilizes exceptional imagery and painful emotional moments to create an unrestrained masterclass of independent cinema that feels massively ahead of its time.
It’s an absolutely brutal story that makes every second in its relatively short runtime feel impactful, culminating in an extremely memorable ending that forever sticks in the minds of the audience. The film has been an underrated gem for many years, although it has slowly been garnering more appreciation and interest through word of mouth in the social media era, combined with the notoriety of director Shinya Tsukamoto‘s previous works, Tetsuo the Iron Man and Tokyo Fist.
‘Avengement’ (2019)
While people may not immediately recognize his name, Scott Adkins has been having an exceptional run with his talent in action thrillers, with his work in John Wick: Chapter 4 and The Rip being highly entertaining and show-stealing. Avengement is a massively underrated action thriller that expertly utilizes Adkin’s strengths in a raw, unrelenting story of carnage and revenge. The film sees Adkins as a criminal who, after escaping prison, returns to his old stomping ground to take revenge on the people who put him in prison and transformed him into a ruthless killer.
Avengement stands out from other action revenge thrillers because of the raw brutality on display, not shying away from some absolutely guttural and ruthless violence and action. It does a great job of building up its lead character as a raw, destructive force, not afraid to fight dirty and perform underhanded tactics in order to achieve his goals.

John Legend Saves Chrissy Teigen From Wardrobe Malfunction
Chrissy Teigen narrowly missed a wardrobe malfunction while attending the 2026 American Music Awards on Monday, May 25.
Teigen, 40, was accompanied by her husband while walking the red carpet in a bright orange gown on Monday. When she stopped to pose for photos, the heel of Teigen’s shoe got caught in her beaded dress.
Legend, 47, was quick to jump into action, attempting to detangle his wife’s foot from her dress. At one point, another woman stepped in to help, too. They finally got Teigen’s heel detached, but not before a few beads fell off the dress. They could be seen on the carpet as Teigen and Legend continued to pose for photos.
Despite the mishap, both Teigen and Legend were all smiles as the night continued.
Teigen attended Monday’s awards ceremony alongside her husband, who took the stage to present Karol G with the International Artist Award of Excellence.
“What a pleasure to be back here at the American Music Awards to present this very special award, the International Artist of Excellence Award,” Legend told the crowd. “This is a rare and high honor that’s gone to some of the most iconic superstars of our times. Global sensations who have made music history and changed culture worldwide.”

Legend told the crowd that he thinks “the world” of Karol, 35.
“There are artists who make hits and then there are artists who make history. Just last month, she became the first Latino artist in history to ever headline Coachella,” he continued. “This summer, she launches the Viajando Por El Mundo Tropitour, selling two million tickets in four days and expanding from 39 to 63 stadium shows worldwide. That’s not just a fan base, that’s a movement.”
Legend noted that it was “an honor” to present Karol with the award on Monday.
“What an honor, John, that you gave me this award. It’s legend. This is going to be a legend moment in my career for sure,” she said when accepting the award. “I feel very, very grateful. First of all, thank you, God. He allows me to live the most incredible, amazing experience in my life. I want to say that more than anything, this career has given me the most important thing in my life: purpose.”
Karol continued, “I found purpose through my music. I’m just happy that I can perform a song, and I can say things in my songs that become a voice for a lot of people. A healing place, a safe place, and I just think that my life is meaningful because of my music and to help others through it.”

‘Reacher’ Drops Official Update on Long-Awaited Prime Video Spin-Off
We’ve had plenty of updates from Alan Ritchson on Reacher, with Prime Video‘s biggest and loudest show constantly in the news and always a discussion point. But the long-awaited spin-off, Neagley, seems to have vanished from the news cycle. However, nearly a year after the series wrapped, we’re finally being given an update. And the good news is, this time, it’s positive.
Maria Sten, who plays Neagley in Reacher, has shared that news on the Prime Video spin-off is “getting closer.” It’s been a quiet year, because Neagley wrapped filming on its first season in the summer of 2025, but with no news, it’s left fans waiting for a release date or a first proper look at the series. While Prime Video hasn’t officially confirmed when the show will premiere yet, Sten made it clear that more information is on the way. Writing on Instagram, Sten told fans:
“I know you guys are asking about ‘Neagley.’ We are getting closer, I promise! More info to come… thank you for your patience, it means so much to us that you are still excited. And I may be biased, but it’s be worth the wait, cause we’re taking stuff to a whole new level and it’s KILLER. know what I mean? ;)”
It’s obviously not a full release date or anything, but at least we’ve got some encouraging signs. The show’s been sitting in that vault labelled “it exists, nobody has seen it”, and that’s been slightly odd especially since Reacher Season 4 has filmed and wrapped in that time as well. Prime Video also recently renewed Reacher for a fifth season, so it isn’t going anywhere, but the big question was: will Neagley get her own moment soon? That update at least suggests the answer might well be yes.
Is ‘Neagley’ Still Happening?
The spin-off has been in discussion for a while, but Sten previously said she didn’t fully believe it was happening until things became concrete. Speaking with Collider earlier in 2025, she explained that Hollywood is full of rumors and “maybe this could happen” talk, so she didn’t put too much weight on the idea at first. According to Sten, the conversation became more real after Season 2 and heading into Season 3 of Reacher, before the show was officially greenlit in October. According to Sten, the series will explore both the professional and personal sides of the character. She said:
“Neagley has a lot going on in her life. She has a history, and she has a life lived. She has some quite severe personal issues of her own that she’s grappling with. We just get to know her better and see her grapple with these issues.”
Reacher is streaming now on Prime Video.

Meghan Markle Lets Her Kids Nick Names Slip Over Favorite Jam
Meghan Markle continues to share more details about her family despite the alleged double-standard drama.
The Duchess of Sussex became a member of the British Royal Family when she tied the knot to Prince Harry in 2018. They officially stepped down from their royal duties in 2020 amid allegations of racism and a lack of support.
Since their exit, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have become estranged from the Royal Family. A source close to the former actress recently claimed she and Harry believe they are being judged unfairly, unlike Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Meghan recently promoted her As Ever brand’s fruit spread trio with a heartwarming video on Instagram. The clip captured the Duchess in a kitchen, wearing a white apron, as she revealed her family’s favorite jam flavor.
“Everyone in my family has a different favorite. My husband loves the raspberry,” Meghan began before referring to her kids with cute nicknames. “Lil loves the strawberry. Arch likes both. And I like the marmalade,” she said, referencing Princess Lilibet and Prince Archie.
The post’s caption offered more information about the jams in question, explaining that the fruit spread trio was “inspired by the jams Meghan has created in her own kitchen and shared over the years.” The three flavors, raspberry, orange marmalade, and strawberry, are going for $36 on Meghan’s website.
The Duchess Of Sussex Is Reportedly ‘Frustrated’ By Unfair Treatment

Meghan’s nickname slip comes days after she made waves for allegedly feeling “frustrated” by the way people judged her. The Blast covered the story, reporting that a source close to the entrepreneur claimed she disliked the double-standard treatment she and her husband received.
Meghan and Harry reportedly felt like they were “constantly being judged by a completely different rulebook,” unlike Prince William and Kate. “No matter what she does, Kate will be the golden girl, and she will be the villain,” the source argued, noting that these feelings intensified following a recent backlash.
Kate and William had celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary with cute family photos, and even honored their daughter Charlotte on her 11th birthday with cute pictures of the princess. Fans and the media ate the posts up with praise, but their reactions were negative when Meghan dropped a similar post.
The Entrepreneur Reportedly Doesn’t Understand The Double Standard Treatment

When Meghan shared pictures of her son, Archie, in honor of his seventh birthday, she reportedly received backlash for “pimping” her children. Critics accused the mother of two of using her kids to stay relevant, a claim the source argued was double-standard treatment.
The source pointed out that Kate and William were “clearly using their children as part of the royal image and the branding of the family.” However, no one saw a problem with their actions, but immediately changed tune when Harry and Meghan tried to do the same.
The source also alleged that Kate and Meghan did not have the best relationship when the latter first joined the Royal Family. They reportedly clashed in the days leading to Meghan and Harry’s wedding over the bridesmaids’ dress, with the source adding that Kate was the more favored of the two wives.
The Duchess Shared Glimpses Of Her Family’s Trip To Disneyland

Days before the source’s claims, The Blast shared that Meghan had given her Instagram followers a rare view of her family’s Disneyland trip. She dropped multiple pictures from the outing, which captured her, her husband, her kids, and her mother.
The group looked happy in the snaps Meghan shared, showing them on rides and meeting some of Disney’s most popular characters like Mickey Mouse and Cinderella. A source revealed the trip was more than a fun getaway, as it doubled as a birthday celebration for the kids.
Additionally, the trip “was a special way to extend Mother’s Day for Meghan and her mom.” Disneyland has a special place in the Sussex family, as Meghan previously shared moments from Lilibet’s fourth birthday at the theme park in 2025.
Meghan Markle’s Husband Is Allegedly Displeased By Their Children’s Estrangement From Their Cousins

Earlier this month, The Blast reported that sources claimed Prince Harry was saddened by his children’s estrangement from their cousins. He was allegedly displeased by the lack of bonds between his two kids and his older brother’s three children.
Although Archie and Lilibet were reportedly having a great time in America, Harry was not satisfied as they were missing out on a life with the rest of the Royal Family in the UK. These claims followed reports of Kate’s decision to stand by her husband amid his estrangement from Harry.
Besides her support for William, the Princess of Wales reportedly felt attacked by Harry’s comments about King Charles’ cancer battle. As someone in a similar situation, sources claimed Kate did not appreciate Harry’s implication that Charles might not have long to live.
Will the Sussexes ever reconcile with the Royal Family?

Angel’s Exit, Alamo and Maddy
The third season of Euphoria is coming to an end — but viewers are still left confused by several story lines including Alamo and Maddy’s relationship and Angel’s disappearance.
Based on the Israeli series of the same name, Euphoria follows troubled high school student Rue (Zendaya) as she struggles to remain sober after rehab. The series also explores topics including mental illness, toxic relationships, sexuality and more. After its premiere in 2019, the show’s ensemble cast, which includes Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, Colman Domingo quickly skyrocketed to fame.
The HBO series was quickly renewed for a second season, but it took nearly three years for the episodes to air, with the network ordering two individual specials about the aftermath of Rue and Jules’ (Schafer) breakup in the meantime.
Euphoria’s third season was originally set to air on HBO in 2025 before it faced several delays, including creator Sam Levinson’s commitment to his short-lived series The Idol. The delay was extended during the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which took place in late 2023.
Since season 2 concluded, the cast went through a loss when Angus Cloud died at age 25 in July 2023 following an accidental overdose. The show addressed the fate of his character, Fezco, while Eric Dane‘s Cal made an appearance in two episodes after the actor’s death following a battle with ALS. He was 53.
Keep scrolling for a breakdown of the story lines that are still being questioned:
Angel’s Disappearance

Priscilla Delgado Courtesy of HBO
Priscilla Delgado was introduced as Angel, an exotic dancer at the Silver Slippers strip club. She relapsed on drugs after her friend disappeared — who viewers saw die on screen. Angel ultimately spiraled and Rue was told to take her to rehab but the scene felt ominous as fans questioned if the character would ever be seen again.
After Alamo’s safe was robbed, Laurie’s people kept some of the stuff they found. Rue got a glimpse when she saw IDs — including Angel’s — in there. While some audience members thought that meant Angel died, others pointed out the obvious conclusion that Angel was human trafficked by Alamo.
Alamo and Maddy’s Relationship

Maddy (Demie) and Alamo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) formed a bond that turned sinister when she had to ask for money when Cassie (Sweeney) found out that Nate (Elordi) only had 72 hours to live.
A scene then showed Alamo making Maddy put on a bathing suit to get in the hot tub with him. He ultimately agreed to help Maddy get the $1 million needed to save Nate and the scene cut off. Viewers, meanwhile, wondered if the scene hinted at Maddy having to sleep with Alamo to secure the deal but that wasn’t clarified.
The DEI of It All

While Rue working as a double agent made sense for the most part, there have been some questions about how the government officials were able to listen in on Laurie and Alamo’s plans when she wasn’t around. Viewers have questioned whether the authorities planted wires without Rue or if she was involved — but it wasn’t shown.

Jason Biggs’ Ex Turns To Italian Getaway After End Of Marriage
Jason Biggs‘ ex-wife, Jenny Mollen, is holding nothing back following the end of their marriage.
The actress, famously known for playing Nina Ash on the TV series “Angel,” separated from her husband of 18 years in May 2026.
Jason Biggs and Jenny Mollen welcomed two sons before their separation.

Mollen poured her heart out in an emotional Substack essay titled “Don’t Tell Me What It Is.” She recalled her sixth birthday celebration and the “intense sense of disappointment and loneliness” she felt later that night after realizing that “the best part of a gift is often wondering what’s inside.”
Mollen explained that she did not get to enjoy that suspense to the fullest because she rushed through her birthday celebration just as she rushed through life. The actress noted she had been eager to grow up, to land TV jobs, and spent most of her twenties trying to find answers alone.
“Everywhere I’ve ever been has felt a little temporary, like a waiting room I’m trapped in before an operation,” Mollen wrote. She added that her inability to enjoy the moment continued when she welcomed two sons with Biggs, as she failed to be fully present in their younger years.
Jenny Mollen Opens Up About Seeking Validation

Mollen’s candid reflections about her life continued, with claims of “the highest highs” of her life feeling “like pennies disappearing into a bottomless well.” The TV personality added that from her twenties to date, she struggled with enjoying the present, writing:
“When you’re young and ambitious, or maybe just middle-aged with ADHD, it feels impossible to appreciate anything while you’re in it.”
Mollen shared that she wasn’t one to mope around, noting that she was off chasing the next high and “hoping that the next thing would finally be the one that cured me- the one that made me feel worthy and validated in a way that has always evaded me.”
The Mother Of Two Is Going To Italy For Double Birthday Celebrations

Mollen concluded her essay on a light note, revealing plans to travel to Italy. She stressed that she wasn’t going to find a rebound “beautiful Italian stranger,” given her separation from Biggs. Instead, a friend invited her for a birthday party.
The TV personality chose to kill two birds with one stone during the trip, pointing out that her 47th birthday was coming up on May 30.
She added that her trip was unlikely to be anything like her sixth birthday celebration; nonetheless, she vowed to hit a piñata with everything she had if she came across one.
Mollen’s birthday plans came weeks after The Blast reported her separation from Biggs. A representative for the former couple confirmed the news, revealing that the pair had officially gone their separate ways after 18 years of marriage. The split, per the rep, was amicable.
The Former Spouses Are Reportedly On ‘Great Terms’

The rep alleged that the separation had not ruined the relationship between Biggs and Mollen, claiming they were still on “great terms.” Additionally, the former couple was reportedly focused on co-parenting their two sons, Sid and Lazlo.
Another source echoed similar sentiments about the enduring bond between Biggs and Mollen, arguing that the split had not come between them. “They are very much connected,” the source said, declaring that they believed Biggs and Mollen would remain on good terms.
The duo first met on the set of the 2008 movie “My Best Friend’s Girl” and wasted no time getting engaged that same year. Biggs and Mollen quietly eloped months later in April 2008, before having a formal wedding ceremony three months later in July.
Jason Biggs And Jenny Mollen’s Split Linked To The Actor’s Weight Loss

Following news of Biggs and Mollen’s separation, The Blast shared that theories about their split started to run wild, including a weight loss link. Sources close to the exes alleged that Biggs’ weight loss transformation caused changes in his confidence and overall mindset.
One insider claimed that Biggs’ ego got a significant boost from his physical transformation, which slowly created distance in his marriage. Other sources cited the actor’s return to the entertainment industry, arguing that his comeback brought more stress into his life.
A source claimed that Biggs placed enormous pressure on himself to stay relevant in Hollywood, and the stress of work in turn impacted his marriage to Mollen. Another insider alleged that Biggs and Mollen’s marriage would have ended sooner if not for therapy.

Alix Earle Left Crying After Running Into Ex Braxton Berrios
Alix Earle is opening up about an emotional run-in with her ex, Braxton Berrios.
The influencer posted a “UNGRWM” (un-get ready with me) video via TikTok on Monday, May 25, which documented her getting ready for bed the night before as she spoke about bumping into Berrios on a night out.
“Crymaxxing,” Earle, 25, said, admitting that her “eyes are a tad bit puffy” from crying.
“Obviously, I saw my ex tonight, but we’re on good terms, so it was normal and fine and we were joking around with each other,” the podcaster explained.
Earle continued, “It was funny and fun, and then it wasn’t. It kept turning into me looking around the place the whole night like, ‘Hmm, where is he?’ I think that really sucked, catching myself doing that. I think it’s hard when you see someone for a second and it’s like fun and normal, but that’s just a dose of it, and then that’s done. That started to hit me.”
The “Hot Mess With Alix Earle” host admitted that she got emotional seeing Berrios, 30, while trying to put on a brave face.
“Sometimes you just can’t help it. Sometimes you’re just a girl and sometimes water just falls out of your eyes. Sometimes that happens and that’s OK,” she said. “I did the responsible thing and called myself a car home and cried to my dog.”
Us Weekly broke the news in December 2025 that Earle and the Houston Texans wide receiver had split after nearly two years together.
Earle later confirmed the news in an emotional TikTok video.
“Braxton and I are no longer together,” she tearfully told fans at the time. “We have been doing long distance since, basically, June and we haven’t got to see each other that often. It’s just been really difficult for me.”
Earle said that she was considering a permanent move to Los Angeles after living there while competing on Dancing With the Stars. Berrios, meanwhile, lives in Houston.
“I think that was a scary thing for me to realize because it meant us not being in the same place. A part of me also really wants to be focusing on myself right now,” she said. “I just feel like I can’t be what Braxton needs.”
“I want him to have someone who can be there for him 24/7 and support him. He wasn’t really expecting that of me … I constantly felt guilty,” Earle continued.
“It just kinda feels like we’re on two different paths right now and it sucks,” she admitted, describing Berrios as her “best friend.”
Earle added, “We’re on good terms and I don’t want anyone to come for him or be mean to him.”
“I think I ultimately just wanted to go with trusting my feelings,” she said. “This has just been really hard. … It’s not drama. It’s not because he did anything wrong or I did anything wrong. It just didn’t really feel like it was working out, in the moment.”

Raunchy, R-Rated Fantasy Comedy Teams Firefly And Game Of Thrones Cast

Every now and then, you get a movie description that sounds a bit like the setup to a bad joke. For example, let’s say someone tells you the following: “Jason Stackhouse, Frank Heffley, and Tyrion Lannister must team up with River Tam in order to save a bunch of cosplayers from a sexy lady.” You’re waiting for a punchline, right? There’s no punchline, though, because there’s no joke. There’s just Knights of Badassdom, arguably the weirdest and most underrated character actor collaboration of modern film.
This is a movie whose core cast includes Ryan Kwanten (Jason Stackhouse from True Blood), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister from Game of Thrones), and Summer Glau (River Tam from Firefly), making Knights of Badassdom the rare collision of fantasy, sci-fi, and gothic horror. The resulting film is a strange brew that gets a bit better with each sip you take. Where else can you find demons, magic, and cosplay? If you just reflexively answered “in my porn search history,” you’re the perfect audience for this naughty, nerdy film now streaming for free on Tubi!
Roll For Initiative

The premise of Knights of Badassdom is that after an aspiring musician gets dumped by his girlfriend, his friends try to cheer him up by dragging him to a LARPing event. This is meant to be a lighthearted weekend of them dressing like medieval warriors and beating the crap out of other people using foam swords. However, when someone reads the wrong incantation, they accidentally cast a spell that summons a real-life succubus. Unless they can stop her, this deadly demon is going to have her own revenge on the nerds, one bloody kill at a time.
If the plot didn’t give you a clue, Knights of Badassdom is not a film that takes itself very seriously. That’s a good thing. By keeping everything light, director Joe Lynch (who would later direct the pitch-perfect horror movie, Mayhem) invites audiences to bask in the surreal spectacle of live-action role players. Everything is undeniably silly, but the LARPers are so unbearably earnest that it’s impossible not to love their increasingly stupid hijinks. Plus, real talk? If you’ve ever LARPed or simply attended a cosplaying event, every cringe character moment will seem far too familiar. Worry not, though, as Lynch’s movie is (almost) always laughing with you and not at you.
Looking For Group

The strongest aspect of Knights of Badassdom is its cast, which is surprisingly stacked for a low-budget, lo-fi horror flick. Ryan Kwanten is our lead actor, and he’s really just doing a variation on his character from True Blood: all heart and no brains. Fortunately, he has breezy, grinning affability that helps him win you over from his very first appearance. Speaking of not playing against type, Steve Zahn leans fully into the familiar role of air-headed chaos agent. However, Peter Dinklage is the film’s real secret weapon. The most popular Game of Thrones actor in a movie filled with swords and sorcery? Talk about a perfect combination!
Dinklage deserves special praise for fully embracing the zaniness of this wacky plot. From the outside looking in, it seemed like the Game of Thrones actor was really slumming it by being in this film. But instead of phoning in his performance, Dinklage brought the full weight of his considerable charisma to every scene. In the hands of lesser actors, Knights of Badassdom would descend into full farce. Dinklage fully commits to the chaos, though, and that helps lend the silly script the earnestness needed for us to really care about these characters.
Bringing The Summer Heat

With that being said, it’s arguably Summer Glau who really holds this movie together. While initially presented as an archetypal prize (the insanely hot super-dork), her character is refreshingly given plenty of agency and constantly steals scenes even better than Dinklage. Filmed about eight years after she dazzled in Firefly and Serenity, Glau was still fully in her niche as the geek next door to genre fans around the world. She’s so good in every scene, and it’s fair to say she is given more to do (as both actor and character) here than she was ever given in the sci-fi show that made her famous.
Knights of Badassdom is a movie that only does a few things, but it does them very well. For example, the cast is small, but that just gives each of our principal performers that much more time to shine. The movie is more intimate than epic, but that helps it achieve a perfectly cozy vibe (i.e., a movie to watch with buddies and beers). The special effects are modest, but that’s okay. The emphasis on practical effects elevates both the humor and the horror, and when we do get fancy effects, they’re usually worth the wait.

For all of its killer casting and awesome ambition, Knights of Badassdom never really landed on most nerds’ radar. That’s a shame because this outwardly goofy movie is doing something very profound: it’s using the actors and tropes of genre storytelling to deconstruct that genre altogether. In a film whose heroes blend the mundane with the magical, this movie challenges audiences to find the call to adventure lurking within every corner of our shopworn, everyday lives. It’s obviously hard to deconstruct nerd culture without offending your target audience, so Knights of Badassdom was always destined to be a roll of the die. Fortunately, this cult classic landed a critical hit.
Care to roll the dice for your evening entertainment? You could do far worse than Knights of Badassdom, a movie featuring the people you see at nerd conventions doing the same thing you do at nerd conventions: dress like a weirdo and geek out with your fellow freaks. The movie is a celebration of its subject matter, and you will never find a more passionate (like, the sloppiest of sloppy kissing passionate) love letter to the entire genre. It’s streaming for free on Tubi, so you’re just one click away from watching an unforgettable fantasy adventure about bros, brotherhood, and battle.
