‘The Odyssey’ Is Actually the Most Christopher Nolan Film He’s Ever Made

Published

on

The Odyssey - 2026 (11)

It’s no secret that Christopher Nolan has built one of the most impressive resumes in modern Hollywood. By refusing to repeat himself and always maintaining his unique filmmaking style, he’s created a broad body of work that includes noir mysteries, superhero blockbusters, science fiction, historical drama, and, with the release of The Odyssey, a mythological epic. However, within the seemingly-disparate 13 movies Nolan has directed, a remarkably consistent set of ideas stick out. Nolan’s fascinations with time, identity, obsession, guilt, and sacrifice appear across nearly all his movies: Interstellar focuses on the long journey home and the emotional cost of absence; The Prestige centers on obsession; The Dark Knight trilogy examines what it means to be a hero.

That’s why his adaptation of The Odyssey doesn’t feel like the unexpected career choice some thought it was when the film was first announced. Previously, Nolan has made a point to present a certain realism in his movies, with even more fantastical works like Inception and Tenet feeling conceptually grounded in reality.

However, despite his general aversion to the fantastical elements of filmmaking, he embraces them with The Odyssey — and rather that serving as a rejection of his previous work, this decision builds on every movie he’s made before. It’s the themes that he infuses into the movie that has already led to its massive success, both financially and critically, despite a campaign mounted against the film deriding it as “woke,” with many believing it was doomed to fail. Even though the noise outside was loud, Nolan was determined to make the movie he envisioned, by infusing it with what he’s learned along the way.

Nolan’s career has largely been defined by stories about people who find themselves in circumstances with the potential to unravel their lives, and whose defining strengths threaten to become their greatest weaknesses. J. Robert Oppenheimer’s pride and pursuit of knowledge becomes his curse, a creation that could bring about humanity’s end in the wrong hands. Bruce Wayne’s desire to protect others threatens to destroy the life that he knows while he fights crime as Batman. Inception‘s Dom Cobb grapples with his past and his PTSD, while it causes him to spiral downwards.

Odysseus, portrayed in The Odyssey by Matt Damon, is far from an ordinary person; he’s a Greek general who has found himself far from home, stuck in what seems like an endless cycle of physical and mental challenges on his quest to get home to his wife Penelope (Anne Hathaway) and son Telemachus (Tom Holland). Odysseus very much feels like an amalgamation of characters like Oppenheimer, Bruce Wayne, and Cobb, among many others of Nolan’s protagonists. Nolan’s version differs from Homer’s original character in a number of ways, with Damon’s performance feeling more like an original character from the director and less like a Greek hero. It works here because Nolan knows what works for him, how to get the best out of the actors in the moment, and what to keep in place to allow the characters feel real — and his filmography shows us that.

Odysseus and his men are no saints; they burned an entire city, butchering its population, and thus offended the Gods and were punished for their wickedness. While we as an audience have not committed the sins they have, we know what it feels like to feel guilt and chastise ourselves for it. In a world filled with gods, monsters, witches, and an underworld designed to torment the living, his characters still manage to feel grounded, so that you can identify with them.

While The Odyssey works fantastically as a character piece, examining desire, trauma, desperation, and longing, Nolan doesn’t shy away from what he’s known for: spectacle. The fall of Troy unfolds almost like a horror scene, as the Greek army gleefully massacres the Trojan population, military and civilian alike. Despite the ghastly violence on screen, Nolan knows how to film it to enrapture the viewer. You feel every arrow shot, every explosion. These are all methods he utilized in films like Dunkirk and Interstellar, which keep the audience focused on the screen and let the visuals tell a story.

In scenes following Odysseus’ crew’s encounter with the Cyclops, the battle against Scylla and Charybdis, and trying to survive a fight with the giant Laestrygonians, The Odyssey never feels small. It’s loud, it’s violent, and it’s full of dread, all qualities that you can find in almost any Nolan film. That said, even with the blockbuster angle, some of the film’s biggest moments come at the smallest of times. Odysseus’ conversations with crew mates, Penelope, Telemachus, and Eumaeus, his loyal servant played by John Leguizamo, are among the movie’s most pivotal.

It’s this delicate balancing act that Nolan has perfected in the past, where he delivers action that can keep you visually engrossed — but those moments have no weight if the audience loses sight of Odysseus’ desire to return home. Nolan continues to show that he can make spectacle serve the character instead of merely overshadowing it.

Looking across Christopher Nolan’s career, The Odyssey doesn’t feel like a dramatic change in direction. Rather, it is the culmination of everything he has worked toward so far. His mastery of non-linear storytelling, complex heroes, blockbuster action, and immersive world-building are all perfectly suited for this project. For the first time, it doesn’t feel like he’s taking on another ambitious challenge. Rather, it feels like the movie he’s been waiting for his entire career.

Details About Apartment Building Death In Japan

According to ABC News 4, the woman who died was named Houra Inaba. Media outlets such as Japan Today said the 23-year-old passed away in the hospital after a 29-year-old Shinsei Taguchi landed on her as she walked along a sidewalk with a friend. The friend called emergency services. Inaba died from hemorrhagic shock at around 5:30 a.m., per Japan Today. Reports say the incident occurred at around 1 a.m. in the Sakae district of Nagoya, a city about halfway between Tokyo and Osaka. The area is reportedly packed with shops, office buildings and apartment complexes.

How Did The Fall Happen?

Unlike the 23-year-old woman, Taguchi reportedly survived the drop. However, per ABC News 4, he is still unconscious and in critical condition. At this time, investigators are still trying to determine what happened that caused Shinsei Taguchi to fall from the 12-story apartment building. It’s unclear whether he accidentally fell or intentionally jump and from which level.

Woman’s “Rope Jumping” Death Also Recently Went Viral

This story out of Japan has made its way across social media platforms. Many are expressing condolences for the victim’s family, while others are calling out the survivor, even alleging he should be charged in the death. The investigation is still pending.

Last month, another bizarre death of a young woman went viral on social media. 21-year-old Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas passed away during rope jumping activity in Brazil. Video footage shows the moment two instructors let her go with no safety cord attached, only to realize their actions a few moments later.  Though she reportedly survived initial impact with the ground approximately 130 feet below, she later died from her injuries. Widow Breaks Silence Amid Estate Battle

Rihanna Seemingly Addresses Baby Rumors, Talks "Little Pouch"

A private family matter has made its way to the courtroom nearly a year after Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s passing. New legal filings reveal that his widow, Tenisha Warner, is now involved in a dispute over the late actor’s estate. The legal matter has also brought attention to his mother, who is connected to the estate as the trustee of Malcolm’s 1996 trust. Here’s what the documents reveal.

Tenisha Details Life After Malcolm’s Passing

On Wednesday, Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s widow, Tenisha Warner, appeared in a preview clip from her upcoming ‘Good Morning America’ interview with Gayle King, where she opened up about navigating life after Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s death. During the emotional conversation, Tenisha shared that everyone who loved Malcolm is still “grieving” his loss. She also explained that she and their daughter, MacKenzie, have leaned on each other throughout the process. Furthermore, she agreed to King describing the two as “a unit.” Tenisha added that her daughter’s well-being remains her top priority. Also, she revealed that her own “emotional capacity… can be very limited sometimes.

To note, the interview, per Gayle King, though released on Wednesday, was recorded prior to the news of Tenisha suing Pamela.

Tenisha Says She Had No Other Choice

Tenisha Warner is speaking out after filing a lawsuit involving the late actor’s estate. She says legal action became necessary after months of trying to resolve the matter privately. In a statement shared with PEOPLE, Tenisha said she spent the past year working to honor Malcolm’s final wishes. She explained that Malcolm had been working on updating an estate plan that was originally created in 1996. However, she said he passed away before he was able to complete the changes.

I have been struggling to care for our daughter as a single mom and now as her sole provider,” Tenisha said. “Legally, I had no choice but to take action to protect our rights before any potential statute of limitations expired.” Her statement follows a lawsuit filed against Malcolm’s mother, Pamela Warner. Additionally, Tenisha claims she is owed more than $1.2 million under the terms of the couple’s prenuptial agreement. The filing was made on the one-year anniversary of Malcolm’s passing.

Malcolm’s Mom Encourages Healing After Loss

On the one-year anniversary of Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s passing earlier this week, his mother, Pamela Warner, honored his memory. Moreover, she shared a heartfelt tribute on his legacy Instagram account. Alongside a carousel of photos celebrating the actor’s life, Pamela reflected on how quickly the past year has gone by. She also wrote that she has “no regrets” when it comes to her relationship with her son. While she did not address the ongoing estate dispute, she used the post to encourage others to cherish their loved ones. Pamela even urged followers to “clear up any beef” they may have with family and friends.

What Is Going On With Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s Trust?

As previously reported, Tenisha Warner is challenging Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s decades-old estate plan, claiming it no longer reflects the life he built before his death. The actor, who died in July 2025 at age 54 following an accidental drowning in Costa Rica, is survived by Tenisha, their 9-year-old daughter, MacKenzie, and his mother, Pamela Warner. Tenisha says Malcolm had been preparing to replace a family trust created in 1996—when he was 26, unmarried, and had no children—but passed away before those changes could be finalized.

The petition states that the 1996 Warner Family Trust leaves 70% of Malcolm’s assets to his mother, Pamela Warner, while 15% goes to his late father, Robert Warner Jr., and the remaining 15% to his half-sister, Collage Warner. Tenisha argues the trust fails to provide adequate financial support for her and their daughter, saying Malcolm intended for them to be protected. She also revealed she spent the past year trying to resolve the matter privately before filing legal action to preserve what she believes are their rights.

Trina Gives Yung Miami Advice Amid Nicci Gilbert’s Viral Comments

Rihanna Seemingly Addresses Baby Rumors, Talks "Little Pouch"

Whew, Roommates! The debate over Yung Miami’s hit song ‘Spend Dat’ isn’t slowing down. Nicci Gilbert, one of the voices behind the R&B group Brownstone, recently jumped into the conversation and shared her thoughts on the viral track. Now, with social media still going back and forth over Miami’s record, Trina has entered the chat with some words on how she should move going forward.

RELATED: LisaRaye & Trick Daddy Weigh In On Yung Miami’s ‘Spend Dat’ Amid Controversy Over The Song’s Impact (VIDEOS)

Trina Defends Yung Miami Amid Ongoing Debate Over ‘Spend Dat’

Recently, Trina pulled up to the ‘So Who Gon Say It’ podcast, where she addressed the haters, opened up about relationships, and reflected on how she has handled negativity and criticism throughout her career. During the conversation with Chella H, Trina also weighed in on the controversy surrounding Yung Miami’s hit song, ‘Spend Dat.’ Although she never mentioned anyone by name, Trina said she doesn’t understand why people keep criticizing Miami for simply making music. She also said she thinks speaking on whether ‘Spend Dat’ deserves Grammy recognition is going too far.

“Who are you to say she shouldn’t receive a Grammy. You’re not God. It doesn’t matter if you don’t like it. Keep your opinion, that’s fine.” Trina added, “But then these are the same people that are so Godly and so for the rights. If you are so right then you don’t even have the time to be distracted by that. If your so right this isn’t even in your ears. She’s just making music, that’s the only thing she’s doing nothing else.”

She then encouraged Caresha to keep going, keep chasing her dreams, and to ignore the noise. Trina also pointed out that plenty of folks criticized the music Miami dropped before ‘Spend Dat,’ but now they can’t get enough of the record as it continues taking over the internet and airwaves. “Continue to win Yung Miami. Continue to grow, continue to flourish, continue to live your dream, live out fully what you got in this game to do. Stay humble and just keep living your life.” Trina said.

Nicci Gilbert Sparks Debate After Giving Her “Unpopular Opinion” On ‘Spend Dat’

Conversations about Yung Miami and ‘Spend Dat’ have kept social media buzzing all summer, but Nicci Gilbert took the debate to another level when she shared her thoughts on the record. Shortly after Yung Miami appeared at the BET Awards in June, Nicci hopped on Instagram and weighed in on the song’s influence. She told her followers that real creators deserve real recognition and explained that while she doesn’t believe ‘Spend Dat’ will push people to boost or scam, those issues continue to plague the culture. Nicci also made it clear that she wasn’t about to jump on the bandwagon just because everyone else was enjoying the song. “I’m not buying into the hype because everybody else is. Never have, never will!”

Nicci later slid into her own comment section to double down, adding that although she doesn’t think Caresha is encouraging people to make certain decisions, she still believes music carries influence and can leave a lasting impact. “Music is too powerful to pretend like it doesn’t impact our Community & Culture . I hope more people take it seriously 🙏🏽,” Gilbert wrote.

Social Media Continues To Sound OFF As The ‘Spend Dat’ Conversation Continues

Bachelor stars Sean and Catherine Lowe reveal collective 37lbs weight loss on Nutrisystem couples plan

“The Bachelor” stars Catherine Giudici and Sean Lowe are navigating a frightening “new normal” after their eight-year-old son, Isaiah Hendrix, was hospitalized and diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Giudici revealed that Isaiah spent four days in Children’s Hospital after his pediatrician noticed concerning symptoms during an annual appointment. Although the family faced tears, pain, and confusion, the mother of three said her “tough boy” maintained his playful personality through countless injections and an overwhelming lifestyle change.

Giudici shared the difficult update in a lengthy Instagram post on Tuesday. “This past week has been a rough one for the Lowes,” the 40-year-old reality star began. “Our precious boy Isaiah was admitted to Children’s Hospital and diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Our wonderful pediatrician noticed some symptoms at our annual appointment that stuck out to her.”

According to Giudici, Isaiah had lost a significant amount of weight since his previous visit. He had also been drinking and urinating frequently, which prompted the pediatrician to investigate further. The child had lost 11 pounds despite otherwise appearing healthy and remaining active. The unexpected findings quickly transformed a routine appointment into a four-day hospital stay for Isaiah and his family.

The ‘Bachelor’ Couple Spent Four Days Learning About His Condition

Giudici expressed gratitude for the medical professionals who helped the family understand Isaiah’s diagnosis. “Thankful for the nurses, doctors and staff who gave us a 4-year college education on his condition in 4 days,” she wrote.

The four-day hospitalization required Isaiah to remain away from his home, siblings, and usual routine while his parents learned how to manage his condition. Although the experience was emotionally and physically difficult, she said Isaiah continued showing the fun-loving personality his family knows.

“He’s done all this without losing his playful spirit and a joy that doesn’t make sense,” she wrote. “A lot of tears, pain and confusion too, but he has been a trooper, no question about it.”

Catherine Giudici Calls Isaiah Her ‘New Hero’

The reality star concluded her emotional message by praising Isaiah’s strength and asking followers to keep the entire Lowe family in their thoughts. “Isaiah is my new hero, and I am so proud to be his mama,” Giudici wrote. “Prayers for him, his siblings and his parents are welcomed as we navigate this new normal. [red heart emoji].”

Giudici acknowledged that his siblings and parents will also need support as the family adjusts to a routine that currently feels unfamiliar. While she did not share additional details about his treatment, her post confirmed that he had returned home after spending four days in the hospital.

Catherine Giudici And Sean Lowe Met On ‘The Bachelor’

Giudici and Lowe became one of Bachelor Nation’s most enduring couples after meeting during Season 17 of “The Bachelor.” Lowe served as the show’s leading man in 2013 after previously appearing as a contestant on Emily Maynard’s season of “The Bachelorette.” Giudici competed for his heart alongside the other women and ultimately received his final rose.

The pair became engaged during the season finale before marrying in a televised ceremony the following year. They later welcomed their sons, Samuel and Isaiah, followed by their daughter, Mia. The couple has continued sharing pieces of their family life with fans long after leaving the franchise.

The Lowe Family Previously Endured Another Medical Emergency

Isaiah’s hospitalization comes after Lowe experienced a traumatic medical emergency involving the family’s former Boxer, Moose. The dog attacked Lowe twice within 12 hours, drawing blood and requiring him to visit the hospital emergency room. Lowe later revealed that his family was forced to rehome Moose.

“It was quite the ordeal,” Lowe said during a December appearance on Jordan Syatt’s podcast. “I was just telling someone I don’t really have PTSD,” he continued. “It’s funny because I’m such a dog lover and I’d never thought twice about putting my face in a dog’s face, but now I do think twice about doing stuff like that.”

Lowe said the repeated attacks left him thinking about what could have happened if Moose had targeted his wife or children. “The only PTSD I have is the thought of, ‘What if it had been my children,’” he explained. “He absolutely would have killed my children or my wife for that matter. I think about that quite a bit, but for the most part, I’m doing pretty good.”

The family had previously rehomed its Bullmastiff, Gus, after attacks involving Mia and Samuel. Samuel was bitten on the side of his head, resulting in an emergency room visit and a staple. “So, as much as I love that dog, I have to protect my kids first,” Lowe said at the time.

Now, Giudici and Lowe are confronting a different type of health crisis as they help Isaiah adjust to his diagnosis. Giudici made clear that despite the fear and upheaval of the past week, her son’s resilience has already given the family a reason to feel proud.

Taylor Frankie Paul’s Ex Is Dating Mormon Wives Guest

Published

on

Taylor Frankie Paul

Taylor Frankie Paul continues to make headlines, but this time she has one of her exes to thank for the renewed attention.

The reality TV star has been embroiled in controversies from domestic violence allegations to child custody drama and, most recently, a MomTok issue with her co-stars.

Now, she is making waves because her ex, Dakota Mortensen, is dating a little too close to home. Taylor Frankie Paul shares a son named Ever with her former flame, and they are currently butting heads over his custody.

Dakota has finally moved on from his tumultuous relationship with Taylor, but it seems he can’t get enough of women on the “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.” The exes are stars on the show, and Dakota’s new flame, Shinia Powell, was a guest on the Hulu series.

The show, which follows a group of Utah-based TikTok influencers known as “MomTok,” has been embroiled in drama thanks to Taylor’s clashes with her co-stars. Now, there may be more feud brewing with Dakota’s blossoming relationship with Powell.

A source told PEOPLE the new couple grew closer during Dakota’s difficult moments, describing Powell as his “steady source of support.” They noted the duo started as close friends, which naturally grew into something more.

The New Relationship Comes Amid A Nasty Custody Battle

The source added that the lovebirds were not rushing into anything, saying, “They are enjoying their time together while thoughtfully navigating what that means for them and their children.” They added that Dakota and Powell wanted privacy as they moved forward “within an already tumultuous environment.”

The mention of a tumultuous environment seemingly referenced the ongoing legal drama between Taylor and Dakota. The exes have been butting heads over the custody of their son, Ever. The outlet reported that the situation escalated with a July 13 filing.

Utah’s Division of Child and Family Services reportedly filed a petition requesting that a juvenile court order protective supervision and appoint a guardian ad litem to represent Taylor’s three children. The petition claimed the entertainer’s kids were “abused, neglected, or dependent.”

The MomTok Drama Exploded With ‘SLOMW’ Stars Unfollowing Each Other

Besides the custody drama, Taylor had her hands full with issues with her “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” co-stars. The Blast covered the drama, reporting days earlier that eagle-eyed fans had noticed the reality TV star had unfollowed Miranda Hope and Layla Taylor.

The duo responded by unfollowing Taylor and defending their actions. Miranda stressed that she hit the unfollow button after noticing the mother of three no longer followed her. Layla echoed similar sentiments, noting she did not know why Taylor unfollowed, but she would not support someone one-sided.

Miranda and Layla’s actions came at the heels of Whitney Leavitt’s clash with Taylor. Whitney unfollowed the latter on Instagram, with Taylor responding with a rant, claiming she was the only one who repeatedly defended her co-star in the past. Yet, she was being abandoned at her lowest.

Another Co-Star Slammed The ‘Bachelorette’ Star As The Problem

The MomTok drama began when Leavitt shared a video with “SLOMW” stars excluding Taylor and captioned it, “We’re surviving.” The latter responded by dropping a video showcasing the job opportunities that have come her way outside the reality TV show.

Taylor also shared a post where she seemingly implied that the show wouldn’t have happened without her. The Blast reported that her words did not sit right with Matthews, who slammed the entertainer as insecure.

According to Mikayla, every woman on the show was responsible for the MomTok era and not a single person could be credited for their success. She accused Taylor of “weaponizing and manipulating” fans with the “I’m the reason you have this” narrative only to “intimidate” others.

Mikayla’s words seem to have awakened something in her co-star, as Taylor seemingly apologized for the MomTok drama. The Blast reported that she took to Instagram on July 12 with a lengthy statement, seemingly apologizing for her outbursts.

She claimed her frustration stemmed from dealing with too many things at once, and she couldn’t hold back when she saw Leavitt’s video with the other cast members. The TV personality felt excluded and had an emotional reaction to the situation.

Although she did not directly apologize for her actions, Taylor stressed that she was ready to move on from the MomTok drama. She argued that she never discredited her co-stars’ success and clarified that her reaction stemmed from feeling betrayed, not jealousy.

One of the passengers declined medical treatment at the scene, while the second passenger was identified as Hottle. She was transported from the scene to a trauma center in the area, where she was pronounced dead.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit.

Hottle was well known for playing Jia, a deaf youngster who is adopted by Rebecca Hall’s Dr. Ilene Andrews, in the Godzilla franchise. Her character communicated with King Kong via sign language.
