Police are investigating the death of a woman who was found dead in her tent at a popular techno festival in Norfolk over the weekend.

The woman, who has not been publicly identified, was found unconscious in a tent on a campsite on the last day of Houghton festival at Houghton Hall in north Norfolk.

The hall is home to David Cholmondeley, the 7th Marquess of Cholmondeley, and his wife Rose Hanbury, friends of the Prince and Princess of Wales.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene on Sunday, despite efforts by an on-site medical team to save her.

Police are treating her death as unexplained while they await the results of a post-mortem examination, but they say they do not believe there were any suspicious circumstances.

A spokesman for the festival said: “We are deeply saddened to confirm that a person has passed away at Houghton 2026.

“Our thoughts are entirely with their family and loved ones at this difficult time.

“We are grateful to our onsite medical team, event response team and to Norfolk Constabulary, who all responded immediately.

“We continue to work closely with the relevant authorities to support in any way we can with their investigations.”

A police spokeswoman said they were investigating and that the woman’s next of kin had been informed.

Houghton festival, which draws 10,000-strong crowds, is known for its house and techno music, played around the clock in the 1,000-acre grounds.

The festival, which has been running at the estate every year since 2017, is the UK’s only 24-hour music festival. Tickets cost between £280 and £330.

Houghton Hall, built in the 1720s for Britain’s first prime minister, Sir Robert Walpole, is set in extensive parkland near William and Kate’s country retreat at Sandringham.

In 2023 the Princess of Wales attended the festival, accompanied by security guards and a group of friends.

“They do not have the new modern personal protective equipment, the lightweight fire kit that we wear, the right helmets, lightweight helmets, breathable uniforms to make sure they’re better protected, their health is protected when they’re out dealing with these incidents for hours and hours on end.”

How many points for a Goal?

A regular source of goals is often the first thing a manager looks for in a fantasy football team. The highly-priced Erling Haaland is a go-to signing for many, but last season saw the continuation of mid-priced forwards getting in on the action too with the likes of Igor Thiago racking up 22 goals in Telegraph Fantasy Football.

Players get five points per goal scored which, added to starting appearance points (two), mean a regularly starting goal scorer can be a huge asset. 

 

How many points for an Assist?

It won’t take a master tactician to work out that players who rank highly in the goalscoring charts often also feature in the upper echelons of the Assists table. 

Bruno Fernandes was head and shoulders above the rest with regard to assist points last season with 21 in total (nine clear of his closest rival).

An assist will earn three points.

What counts as an Assist?

An Assist is the final touch (pass, pass-cum-shot or any other touch) leading to the recipient of the ball scoring a goal. 

Outside of fantasy football, if the final touch is deflected by an opposition player, the initiator is only given a goal assist if the receiving player was likely to receive the ball without the deflection having taken place. Own goals, directly taken free kicks, direct corner goals and penalties do not get an assist awarded.

In a change to previous years, Fantasy Assists are not being used.

 

How many points for a Tackle?

A slightly more nuanced aspect of scoring is the points a player earns for a successful tackle. Managers will need to cast their nets wide to capitalise on tackling points as the highest scorers tend to come from mid-table and even lower-table teams.  

Everton’s James Garner was a key beneficiary of tackle bonus points last season with 120 tackles in total. His closest rivals have been very popular this summer with Wolves’ Joao Gomes, now at Aston Villa, and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, now at Manchester City. It’s clear from this that deeper lying midfielders are more likely to amass points here.

Players earn a point for every two tackles made during a match and only midfielders are eligible.

 

What counts as a Tackle?

A tackle is defined as a player connecting with the ball in a ground challenge and successfully taking the ball away from the player in possession. The tackled player must have clearly been in possession of the ball before the tackle was made.

The final destination of the ball (to the tackler, to a teammate, to an opposition player or out of play) is not considered. A tackle will only be deemed unsuccessful if the player tackled retains possession of the ball.

A player cutting out a pass does not count as a tackle.

Players earn a point for every two tackles made.

 

How many points for a Clean Sheet?

Attainable by goalkeepers and defenders, the top-scorers in the clean sheet category last season mostly came from Arsenal.

There are five clean sheet points on offer for a player who has played at least 60 minutes of a match and two points if the player has played less than an hour where the game has finished with their team conceding zero goals. 

 

How many points for a Save?

In addition to clean sheet points, goalkeepers can earn one point for every two saves made in a match. Much like points for tackling, save points introduce a new angle to team selection with keepers from teams further down the table likely to face more shots than those who generally dominate games. Last season Mark Flekken came out on top with 153 saves for Brentford, so it will be interesting to see how Caoimhin Kelleher gets on this season.

 

What counts as a Save?

 

A save is a goalkeeper preventing the ball from entering the goal with any part of his body when facing an intentional attempt to score by an opposition player.

Saves have the following attributes:

• Body part: Hands/Feet/Body
• Save type: Caught/Collected/Parried Safe/Parried Danger area/Fingertip
• Goalkeeper position: Diving/Standing/Reaching/Stooping

The fire was spotted at around 8pm on the border with Ainsworth Village and Lowercroft and was near land used to graze farm animals.

Locals said that young people were seen near to where the fire broke out and residents called the fire service.

One local said: “At first we thought it may be controlled burning, but there was no one nearby so I would think it was started deliberately.

“Apparently were seen in the area. If it was started deliberately, it was an incredibly stupid thing to do given everything is bone dry at the moment and there are farm animals and wildlife in the area.

“The smoke was incredibly thick and the flames would flare up, however it did not seem to be spreading, probably due to the quick actions of locals.”

Only today fire chiefs nationally warned of sustained fire risk in the hot, dry conditions, with July the busiest on record for wildfires and firefighters responding to 185 wildfires in the first 10 days of August.

Petite Street Playtown, situated in Meadowfield, Durham, announced the closure in a Facebook post today (Tuesday, August 11).

It said: “It is with a heavy heart that, due to unforeseen personal circumstances, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to sell Petite Street Playtown.

“This has not been an easy decision, and we are so grateful to every family who has supported us, celebrated with us, and helped create so many wonderful memories over time.

“Petite Street Playtown is a well-established and much-loved business with fantastic potential for someone looking to continue its journey.”

The post was met with sadness from customers.

One user wrote: “This is so sad, I know how much effort and love you have put into the business.

“It won’t be the same without you.”

The play café has a role-play centre and was created specifically for children aged 0–7 years old.

Transfers explained

A good place to start is by explaining the Telegraph Fantasy Football rules on transfers. First thing to note is the pre-season transfer amnesty, so you can make unlimited changes to your teams right up until the first scheduled kick-off on Friday 21 August, 20:00.

45 is the magic number of transfers you receive during the season, five more than last season to help negotiate the new League Cup fixtures. This equates to a little more than one a week. You can use a maximum of five transfers in any Game Week which run from 00:00 on Tuesdays to 23:59 on Mondays.

Four seasons ago we scrapped the two-hour rule, meaning you can make transfers right up until a game kicks off. However, we don’t suggest you leave it that late as if a transfer is not completed in time you will not gain any points for the game from the player transferred in. Starting XIs are released an hour before kick-off so you have an ample window to implement any changes.

Scrapping the two-hour rule also means that this year you can be more flexible with your transfers each week. Once a player’s game has started you will amass their points for the entire game and are free to transfer them out for another player who may be kicking off while the previous game is being played, thus benefiting from two players’ points.

 

Top transfer strategy tips

 

1) Utilise fixture gains

Telegraph Fantasy Football is unique amongst other fantasy games in that you can transfer a player out as soon as they’ve played for a player yet to play that day or match week. So if Haaland (£8.3m) played in the 12.30pm Saturday kick-off, managers can transfer him out for Saka (£6.0m) who plays in the 3pm kick-off, and score points for both. Picking up extra fixtures each time a transfer is made is key to TFF success.

 

2) Find enablers early and stick

To fit in a combination of Erling Haaland (£8.3m), Bruno Fernandes (£6.5m) and Cole Palmer (£6.2m) or similar, requires TFF managers to find cheaper players to balance teams. Finding those players early into the season, and sticking with them to utilise transfers on the other strategy tips, can ensure avoiding wasting transfers on constant restructuring of squads.

 

3) FA Cup and League Cup (new for 2025/26)

Players in TFF gain points for the League Cup and FA Cup as well as the Premier League, so often players topping points charts at the season end have progressed far in the competition. When seeing lineups for early League Cup and FA Cup Rounds, if big hitting players who are regulars in the league start against lowly opposition, it’s a prime opportunity to stock up on those assets.

New for this season League Cup fixtures have been included which will make the early stages of the season even more exciting when Premier League teams who are not competing in Europe will gain a fixture against the rest.

 

4) Favourable fixture runs

Picking players who are playing against weaker opposition often score more points, therefore keeping an eye on the fixtures for teams is important.

 

5) Balance transfers out over the season

There are ~37 gameweeks in the season, so averaging around one transfer a week is a rule of thumb that keeps managers from running out early. The start of the season is the only time your team is reset, so it’s important to set a structure that works for you so that you don’t need to use too many moves at the start to identify those players who are likely to shine. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, so keeping pace early isn’t a necessity, and often keeping a few extra back until the end run sees TFF managers get a late boost.

For many people, a Raleigh bike provided their first taste of freedom on two wheels, becoming the vehicle for childhood adventures, trips to the shops and countless memories of growing up.

Those memories were relived on Paddy’s Radio 2 show, where the Bolton presenter also recalled his own Raleigh bike.

He said: “My first Raleigh bike was a Raleigh Boxer little thing, bright yellow. It was like a mini Grifter.

“I thought I were king of the streets folks, when I went out on that when we stabilisers on the back.”

Others also called in with memories of their first bike made by Raleigh.

Lisa in Lancs said: “I had a Raleigh Sprite that I used to fetch me mum’s spuds home in.

“Then I upgraded to a Raleigh Alpha with dynamo lights as a reward.”

Keith from Ilford spoke about his Raleigh Grifter, with Paddy saying: “That bike was like a tank on wheels. But what I remember about the Raleigh Grifter was the gears on the handle. Which I’ve never seen before. And also that seat. You could have had that seat in your front room. You’d have happily sat down watching Corrie with a cup of tea sat on your Grifter seats.”

Others spoke about their Raleigh Chopper and Tomohawk.

Paddy McGuinness opted to do his epic Children in Need challenge on a Chopper as he always wanted growing up.

Raleigh was founded in Nottingham in 1887 and gained fame for its Chopper model, which featured extended handlebars and is now part of its retro range.

Accell Group, based in the Netherlands, bought the company in 2012 for around 100 million US dollars (£74 million), adding to its roster of bike brands throughout Europe including Haibike, Winora and Ghost.

But the group said it had now “explored every possible avenue” for the business’s future, including discussions with potential buyers.

Having failed to secure a viable solution, the company has now begun insolvency proceedings in the Netherlands.
