Authorities responded to a fire at Royal Victoria Hospital earlier this evening after a blaze broke out inside a bathroom.
Emergency services arrived on the scene shortly before 6.45pm to tackle the fire in the accident and emergency (A&E) unit of the hospital.
A spokesperson for the NI Fire and Rescue Service said four pumping appliances and around 20 personnel were deployed to the scene. One man was allegedly involved in the inciden and treated for injuries.

The main waiting area and reception were closed and patients attending the ED were directed via a side entrance with some ambulances diverted to other city hospitals for a short time.
A NIFRS statement said: “One male was injured and we had four pumping appliances there, the area was smoke logged.”
It was reported that crews left the scene at around 9.10pm.
Seen as a potential challenger to Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Angela Rayner said she had been “exonerated” of the accusation she had “deliberately sought to avoid tax”.
It comes as Starmer has warned ministers and MPs that a leadership contest could result in “chaos”, after allies of Health Secretary Wes Streeting said they expected him to launch a challenge as soon as today.
Chief political correspondent Henry Zeffman reports from Downing Street.
Also in the Eastern Conference, Lionel Messi scored two goals and provided an assist as Inter Miami secured a 5-3 victory over Cincinnati to go second in the table, two points behind leaders Nashville.
The 38-year-old forward thought he had scored the 61st hat-trick of his career late on, but the MLS attributed the 89th-minute strike as an own goal by Cincinnati goalkeeper Roman Celentano.
It said the ball had rebounded off the post and was not initially crossing the line until Celentano made accidental contact, effectively turning the ball into his own net.
Argentine Messi now has 11 goals and four assists in 12 league appearances for Miami this season, while his overall career statistics stand at 909 goals and 411 assists.

Meanwhile, 16-year-old Cavan Sullivan scored his first MLS goal in bottom side Philadelphia Union’s 4-3 defeat by Orlando City.
Sullivan, who became the youngest ever MLS player two years ago, was a first-half substitute and scored in the 75th minute.
“Despite it not being the result we wanted, I’m grateful to have scored my first MLS goal,” he wrote on Instagram., external
The actress is reprising the role of Sadie King after last appearing in the ITV soap in 2006
Emmerdale has confirmed that Petsy Kensit will be returning to the long-running show after 20 years, reprising the role of Sadie King.

The actress played the villainous character on the ITV soap for a two-year stint between 2004 and 2006. She arrived in the Dales by helicopter as the glamorous, scheming wife of Jimmy King.
Her devious demeanour and ruthless ambition drove many dramatic storylines, including a house explosion and high-stakes affairs with a young Robert Sugden and Cain Dingle. Sadie’s ultimate comeuppance came at the hands of Cain, who double-crossed her, stole the ransom money, and dramatically left her behind.
Patsy, who shares son Lennon with ex-partner Liam Gallagher, went on to play Faye Morton in Holby City between 2007 and 2019. Her character will return to Emmerdale later this year.
She said in a statement: “I am really excited to return to Emmerdale. I treasure the years I was here before. Sadie King is a character that I really loved playing. The cast and crew are absolutely brilliant and I am so grateful for the chance to return to the show, it’s absolutely amazing.”

Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw added: “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Patsy Kensit back to the cast, and crucially to see the iconic Sadie King storm back into the village. Her return will be explosive and guaranteed to shock. Sadie’s seductive demeanour, combined with her utterly ruthless nature, are set to deliver a spectacular and highly dramatic touch of class to the Yorkshire Dales.”
Emmerdale isn’t the only soap Patsy has appeared in, as enjoyed a stint as she also played Emma Harding in EastEnders, the mother of the late Lola Pearce-Brown.
The man, 28, attempted to flee after being caught riding a stolen motorbike and in possession of Class A drugs in Balne, near Selby, on Wednesday (May 13).
Humberside Police said: “At around 12.25pm, officers requested for the vehicle to stop and it reportedly failed, resulting in a pursuit towards the North Yorkshire area.”

A spokesperson added: “The vehicle was eventually brought to a stop in Balne and the man attempted to flee the scene but was swiftly detained by officers.
“Police enquiries identified the motorbike as being stolen and a search resulted in a small quantity of drugs being located.
“A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of fail to comply with an order to stop a moving vehicle, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving without a licence, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of class A drugs, drug driving and in charge of a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs.”
The arrested man has since been released under investigation while enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
Eden Bunn, 16, was found in a car that became submerged in the River Nene after a crash
10:07, 14 May 2026Updated 10:13, 14 May 2026
An inquest has opened after a teenage girl died when a car crashed into a Cambridgeshire river. A blue Volkswagen Polo containing five teenagers crashed into the River Nene on North Brink, Wisbech, at around 8.20pm on March 17.
Three teenagers, including two girls aged 16 and an 18-year-old boy, managed to escape the car. However, the driver Declan Berry, 18, and Eden Bunn, 16 and from Sutton Bridge in Lincolnshire, died as a result of the crash.
The inquest into Eden’s death was opened on Thursday (May 14) by Coroner Elizabeth Gray at Vantage House in Huntingdon. The cause of Eden’s death was confirmed to be a head injury as a result of a road traffic collision.

The inquest heard Eden was a passenger in a car that “left the nearside” of North Brink and “became submerged” in the water on March 17. The vehicle was then recovered and Eden was found in it on March 18. Coroner Gray adjourned Eden’s inquest to November 26, 2026.
At the time of her death, Eden’s family paid tribute to her. Eden’s family described her as the “kindest” and “most loving girl”. They added: “Her horses – Daisy and Dolly – were her world, and she was ours. Words cannot describe the tragedy that will stay with us until we are able to meet her again.”
The inquest into Declan Berry’s death has not yet opened.
The Rusc area of Romania where the youngster vanished is known for large carnivores, with recent heavy rain and cold overnight temperatures adding to the risks, making his survival all the more incredible
10:58, 14 May 2026Updated 11:01, 14 May 2026
A five year old boy who disappeared in a forest inhabited by bears has been discovered safe and well after spending nearly three days alone in unforgiving wilderness.
Toma-Alexandru Zerestea, widely known as Alex, went missing on Monday afternoon in the Rusc area on the edge of Sebișu de Jos, Romania, while his father was carrying out repairs on an electric fence.
In a brief moment of distraction, the youngster wandered into the woodland and could not be located.
Hundreds of rescue personnel — including police, gendarmes, firefighters, mountain rescuers, volunteers and soldiers, equipped with search dogs, drones and thermal imaging equipment — launched an intensive operation across challenging mountainous terrain.
The region is well known for large carnivores, with recent torrential rain and freezing overnight temperatures heightening the dangers considerably.

At around 1pm on Wednesday, the boy was spotted from a Black Hawk helicopter operated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ General Inspectorate of Aviation, approximately 1.5 miles from where he had vanished.
Search-and-rescue operator Mihail Soare was winched down on a trolley to reach the child, who was conscious and sheltering amongst the trees.
Soare remained with young Alex, keeping him warm until ground teams arrived, as reported by NeedToKnow.
The rescuer subsequently said: “It is a very emotional moment, I did not think I would ever live something like this.
“I have two children of my own, the emotion was overwhelming.”
Alex was taken to the Sibiu Clinical Paediatric Hospital.
Medical staff found him stable and in good overall condition despite exhaustion and exposure, with no serious injuries reported.

His father said he was “shaking with happiness” after the family was reunited.
Romanian authorities described the outcome as a miracle given the dangers of the Carpathian forest environment.
Police have opened a routine inquiry into the circumstances, but early indications point to the boy simply wandering off.
Billy was left reeling earlier this week when he discovered that Bea, who he long suspected was up to no good, had taken out a credit card in Honey’s name, wracking up thousands of pounds worth of debt.
Honey contemplated going to the police and reporting her for fraud but knowing Bea could go to jail, she reconsidered. Billy, however, was less forgiving and ordered the lodger out of their home.

In a bid to get revenge on Billy, who she felt always got in the way of her bond with Honey, Bea tampered with the ladder that he was all set to do the guttering with.

Honey forced Billy to apologise to Bea, who used the situation to her advantage, hoping to move back in with the couple upon learning that Honey will be needing surgery.
Billy, however, saw through her game and told her off, ordering her to remove her belongings from their house before he got home. Bea once again attempted to secure her future under their roof, gaining entry to the property and making food but her efforts failed to have a positive effect on Billy, who once again ordered her out.

As the episode came to an end, Bea was seen sleeping in McKunkeys against a number of bin bags. Is this the end of her attempt to remain in Honey and Billy’s life? Has her reign of terror come to an end?

You’d think so, but there’s one part of this storyline that hasn’t yet been realised – and it will likely spell more heartache for Billy and Hon.
Bea, as viewers will recall, previously downloaded what appeared to be an AI app, which she used to record Billy’s voice – before simulating a fake message from the market tradesman.

What exactly she intends to do with said app remains to be seen but, with Honey out of action in hospital, will Bea perhaps use this as her opportunity to prey upon Billy’s vulnerability and garner the voice recordings she’ll require to create fake conversations with the patriarch, which she could use to drive a wedge between he and Honey?
‘It’s going to get so much darker for Honey and Billy,’ star Ronni Ancona warned. ‘‘I would say that Bea increasingly spirals, and she becomes more dangerous as a result.’

All you need to know about when High potential Season 3 is coming out after major behind the scenes shake-up
High Potential fans face a longer wait as ABC has moved the hit crime drama’s third season to a midseason slot, meaning the earliest viewers can expect new episodes is January 2027.
The Disney+ series, starring Kaitlin Olson, has been shifted from its usual schedule position in what ABC calls a strategic move. The show, based on the French-Belgian series Haut Potentiel Intellectuel, has earned critical acclaim with a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Season 2 ended on a dramatic cliffhanger, leaving several mysteries unsolved and one character’s fate hanging in the balance. The delay comes as ABC updates its slate of shows with new release windows.
ABC’s senior vice president Ari Goldman explained the decision, saying: “We do not take lightly the move of High Potential to midseason, but I think this is a real opportunity to bridge through to the end of the year, to keep an uninterrupted run of episodes.”
The move aims to prevent the lengthy breaks that affected previous seasons during Christmas and the Winter Olympics. ABC hopes to replicate the success of other midseason shows like Will Trent and The Rookie.
New showrunners Lila and Nora Zuckerman will take over from Todd Harthan, who stepped down to focus on the upcoming Disney+ series Eragon. The sisters previously worked on Poker Face, Suits and Agents of Shield.
While the episode count for Season 3 remains undecided, Goldman confirmed they’re “looking at a really full season” for the popular crime series. It could mean an increase on Season 2’s 18 episode run.
Levi Loveridge fled the scene and left the two people in the other car seriously injured.
09:47, 14 May 2026Updated 09:52, 14 May 2026
A man who caused a crash by driving at 91mph that left two people seriously injured has been jailed. Levi Loveridge, 32, of Whittlesey Road, March, fled the scene of the crash in North Bank, Thorney, at around 12.45am on June 29 last year.
Loveridge had been driving a black Volvo V40 east along a 60mph-limit stretch of road along the River Nene near the junction with the B1040 North Side before he crashed into an oncoming Toyota Yaris. The crash caused the Volvo to leave to road and stop in an embankment.
The Toyota was forced backwards into a verge. Loveridge fled the scene and left the driver and passenger in the car with serious injuries.

Both were taken to hospital. The driver underwent surgery for a shattered thigh bone and the passenger was treated for a fractured back and hip injuries.
Loveridge was found by officers five days later when they returned to his home and found him limping and wearing a medical boot. Investigators found the Volvo had been travelling at 91mph before the impact and around 79mph at the moment of the crash.
The Toyota had only been travelling at around 20mph. During a police interview, Loveridge admitted he had been driving but said he had little memory of the incident and believed he had hit his head in the crash.

Loveridge was sentenced to two years in prison at Cambridge Crown Court on Tuesday, May 12, after pleading guilty to two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was also disqualified from driving for three years and must taken an extended test before being allowed to drive again.
PC Pete Smith, from the Road Policing Unit, said: “This was a completely avoidable collision caused by excessive speed. Driving at such high speeds, particularly on rural roads with bends and changing limits, significantly increases the risk of serious injury or worse.
“Two people suffered life-changing injuries in this crash, but Loveridge chose the cowardly option of leaving fleeing than seeking help. We continue to urge all motorists to drive within the limits and take responsibility for their actions on the road.”

Rivals is back for a new season with more bonking, more affairs and, of course, more moustaches.
Set in the fictional Rutshire in the hedonistic late 80s, the Jilly Cooper adaptation has turned some of British TV’s most popular actors into international sex symbols.
No one is more surprised by this than Danny Dyer, who plays the lovable Freddie Jones, especially because of his era-appropriate wig and moustache.
“I just want to see my top lip again,” he joked to the BBC of his facial hair, admitting he has to keep the moustache for around seven months of the year while he’s filming filming.

“My grandchildren only know me as a moustached man, and that depresses me slightly,” he added, referring to his daughter Dani Dyer’s three children, Santiago, Star and Summer.
Danny has one hope for his character in series three – that his character might move with the times and ditch his trademark tache.
“Obviously, we’re coming to the end of the 80s now, so if we go again, we’re sort of encroaching on the early 90s and hopefully this can come off,” he quipped.
Speaking with his daughter Dani on their podcast Live and Let Dyers, the Mr Big Stuff actor said: “Some people were alluding to the fact that, you know, I’m the one that sort of come out of it, really, in a way, going, ‘Oh God, he’s a really good actor.’”
“I’m getting this backhanded [praise] from these big, broadsheets,” he continued. “Actually, there was a headline that went, ‘The biggest plot twist about Rivals is that Danny Dyer can act’. In a way, I’m going, ‘Oh thanks for the compliment’, at the same time going, ‘Well, fuck off’.”
Although it’s not yet been announced, Rivals fans should feel confident – thanks to the rave reviews that season two has received – that a third run is on the cords.
“We’ve already planned season three,” executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins said recently on the red carpet for the second series. “It’s not officially greenlit yet, but the stories are all done.”

He added: “We’re ready to go.”
The first three episodes premiere on 15 May 2026, on Disney +, followed by one a week until 5 June. The second half of the season will premiere later in 2026.
