Bank of America just announced a brand-new real-time cross-border payments system launching next quarter — and the entire crypto community is asking the same question: does it run on XRP and Ripple? In this video, I break down exactly what’s powering Bank of America’s new cross-border payments solution, what the press release actually says, and why the XRP and Ripple speculation isn’t crazy — even though the truth is more nuanced than the headlines.
Here are the facts. The new BofA system will run through SWIFT and the bank’s CashPro digital platform via APIs and host-to-host channels, connecting to existing real-time payment networks like SPEI in Mexico, the Faster Payments Service in the UK, and Unified Payments Interface in India. It is NOT running on XRP, RippleNet, or any public blockchain — at least not at launch. But here’s why XRP holders should still pay attention: Bank of America has been a RippleNet member since 2016, filed blockchain patents back in 2017 that referenced a “ripple distributed ledger,” disclosed ownership of approximately 13,000 shares of the Volatility Shares XRP ETF in a February 2026 SEC filing, and on June 2nd, 2026 appointed Adam Dixon as Global Head of Digital Asset Transformation to lead the bank’s crypto strategy. On top of that, JPMorgan, BofA, Citi, and Wells Fargo are reportedly building a separate tokenized deposit network through The Clearing House for 2027.
