Round one of the 2026 U.S. Women’s Amateur is complete, and the Honors Course wasted no time showing its teeth. Pete Dye’s championship layout demanded precision from start to finish, challenging players with exacting tee shots, uneven lies in the fairway, and lightning-fast greens that were unrelenting.

Leading the pack was 17-year-old Anna Iwanaga, who shot an impressive five-under 67 to give her a two-shot advantage on the field heading into the second round. Just two shots behind her were Madison Dabagia and Jie-En Lin, who shared second place at three-under after steady opening rounds.

One of the biggest names in the field, Asterisk Talley, was also in the mix after carding a 2-under 70 to finish tied for fourth and just three shots off the lead.

With one round of stroke play remaining, the pressure is on as the field narrows to just 64 spots heading into match play. For players, every shot could be the difference between contending for the championship and a ticket home.

Three-time major winner Jordan Spieth has a lot to play for at this week’s Wyndham Championship. As the last event of the PGA Tour‘s regular season, the Wyndham is also the last chance players have to improve their FedEx Cup position before the playoffs.

Ranked 55th to start the week, Spieth is already in line to qualify for the first playoff event, next week’s 2026 FedEx St. Jude Championship. But he’s not qualified for the second event, the BMW Championship.

He needs to play well enough this week (and next) to move into the top 50 and keep his season alive.

Spieth’s quest for a season-ending highlight at the Wyndham begins on Thursday in North Carolina.
