IPL 2026: ‘Lafda ho gaya na’- R Ashwin’s cheeky reply on Rohit Sharma rift rumours | Cricket News
Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin may have stepped away from international cricket and the Indian Premier League, but he remains closely connected to the game through commentary and his growing presence as a digital analyst. From pre-match breakdowns to post-match reviews on his YouTube channel, Ashwin continues to offer detailed insights, often becoming part of the conversation around key performances. However, his absence from analysing the Lucknow Super Giants vs Mumbai Indians clash in IPL 2026 did not go unnoticed. The game itself was headlined by a vintage knock from Rohit Sharma, who returned from injury in style, smashing 84 off 44 balls to lead Mumbai’s charge in a high-scoring encounter. Fans were quick to point out that Ashwin had not spoken about Rohit’s innings, prompting a light-hearted question during one of his shows. The anchor jokingly asked whether there was any issue between the two. “Fans are saying you come and analyse RCB, Virat Kohli‘s game but Rohit Sharma played such a fine knock after so long. You ignored him. Kuch hua hai kya aapka Rohit se? (did something happen between you and Rohit),” Ashwin was asked. Ashwin responded with humour, saying, “Haan thoda lafda ho gaya na (Yes, I had a bit of a tussle).” He quickly clarified the situation, dismissing any speculation and explaining the real reason behind missing the game. “You are saying anything. If I have had any tussle with anyone, I would not keep it to myself. Please understand me and keep a soft corner for me as well. I did commentary for two consecutive days and then travelled, came home, and slept at night,” he explained. Despite missing the initial analysis, Ashwin had high praise for Rohit’s innings. “Rohit Sharma played a very good knock. The way he hit Avesh Khan for a six over extra cover, put it in a loop, and watch it 1,000 times. What a shot. He also hit Manimaran Siddharth for a six over the bowler. But LSG and MI have no scene in this IPL. Mumbai have nothing to prove. They only have themselves to prove. But even against LSG, they were in trouble with the ball. So, let’s see if they can do better from hereon,” he said. On the field, Rohit and Ryan Rickelton put on a dominant display for Mumbai Indians. The duo stitched together a 143-run opening stand, with Rickelton blasting 83 off just 32 balls, as MI chased down Lucknow’s imposing 228/5 in 18.4 overs to secure a six-wicket win. The victory, however, does little to change the bigger picture for either side. Mumbai Indians now have three wins from 10 matches and sit on six points, while Lucknow Super Giants remain at the bottom with four points from nine games. With the playoff race tightening, both teams are now almost out of contention in IPL 2026.

IPL 2026: Yuzvendra Chahal scripts unwanted record thanks to Punjab Kings’ butter fingers | Cricket News
NEW DELHI: Yuzvendra Chahal could only stare in disbelief as another catch went down in the deep. Punjab Kings may have entered their crucial clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad with playoff ambitions, but their fielding effort threatened to undo all plans in a matter of overs. The numbers make the story even uglier for Punjab Kings. Six catches have now been dropped off Chahal’s bowling this season — the highest for any bowler in IPL 2026.Shashank Singh alone has already dropped four catches this year, the second-most by any fielder after Mumbai Indians’ Naman Dhir.
On flat surfaces like Hyderabad, bowlers survive on half-chances and moments of brilliance from fielders. Chahal created those opportunities repeatedly. Punjab Kings simply failed to hold on when it mattered most.On a batting-friendly Hyderabad surface where every opportunity matters, PBKS simply could not afford butter fingers — yet that is exactly what unfolded around Chahal. The leg-spinner has quietly been one of Punjab’s most important wicket-taking options this season, but his frustration reached another level on Wednesday night. Heinrich Klaasen and Ishan Kishan both survived despite gifting chances off Chahal’s bowling, leaving the spinner visibly shattered in the middle. The first blow came when Heinrich Klaasen top-edged a sweep straight towards Shashank Singh at deep backward square-leg. It was the kind of catch fielders are expected to complete almost every single time in professional cricket. Instead, Shashank fumbled the straightforward chance and, to make matters worse for Punjab, the ball raced away for four. Chahal instantly dropped to his haunches in frustration while skipper Shreyas Iyer struggled to hide his disappointment.Watch:Things only worsened later. Ishan Kishan miscued another delivery from Chahal, producing a top-edge that should have been safely collected by Lockie Ferguson near the boundary. But the New Zealand pacer misjudged the ball completely and spilled another regulation catch. Chahal once again bent over in disbelief as another wicket disappeared.

Women’s Six Nations: Cox and Dallavalle boost Wales against Ireland
Bethan Lewis is set to lead the side out at Affidea Stadium, with Kate Williams ruled out of the rest of the tournament with a leg injury.
Catherine Richards has also joined fellow wing Lisa Neumann on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury against the Red Roses.
The tournament returns this weekend after a two-week hiatus, with Wales looking to pick up their first win of the campaign.
They are currently bottom of the table, but have two bonus points, which could prove crucial in their bid to avoid a third consecutive wooden spoon.
Ireland are fourth, with their sole victory coming over Italy, who Wales host at Cardiff Arms Park in the final round on Sunday, 17 May.
“I’m happy with the small wins against England, obviously we were disappointed with leaking 60 points, however set-piece and getting the try bonus point was very good for us,” said Lynn.
“Ireland will be upset as a group, they threw everything at France and came away with nothing, they’re going to be hurt and wounded and are really going to be targeting us.
“It’s all about making sure that we can back up everything we did well against England and everything we want to be putting right against Ireland.”

Detroit joins PWHL as ninth franchise
The Professional Women’s Hockey League will expand to Detroit next season.
PWHL leadership has said the eight-team league will increase by two to four clubs for the 2026-27 season, but only Detroit was announced Wednesday as a new market.
Detroit will also host the PWHL awards ceremony and draft on June 16 and 17, respectively.
The league’s original six teams were Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Minnesota, Boston and New York.
Seattle and Vancouver joined last year for the league’s third season.
Detroit has hosted a total of four neutral-site PWHL games as part of the league’s Takeover Tour, which is more than any other city.
The new team will play out of Little Caesars Arena, which is the home of the NHL’s Red Wings.

Chase Briscoe and Connor Zilisch hope rain forces single-group qualifying at Watkins Glen
Rain could play a role in this weekend’s qualifying at Watkins Glen International, and NASCAR drivers Chase Briscoe and Connor Zilisch have shared their thoughts on social media. If rain affects this weekend, both drivers are hoping Mother Nature shakes things up in an unusual way—by pushing NASCAR toward a single-group qualifying format in wet conditions.
The question surfaced after a fan on X (formerly Twitter) asked whether NASCAR would allow practice and qualifying sessions to take place in the rain. Saturday’s weather at Watkins Glen predicts a 70 percent chance of a race. FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass responded to a fan query with a realistic assessment of the situation.
Thanks for the submission!
“Could see a practice in the rain but likely not qualifying as the conditions could be very different for each of the two groups.” Pockrass wrote.
On road courses like Watkins Glen, NASCAR has increasingly embraced wet-weather racing conditions in recent years, equipping cars with rain tires, windshield wipers, and other modifications to handle slick conditions.
Rather than cancelling qualifying altogether, Joe Gibbs Racing driver Chase Briscoe offers a more exciting alternative. Usually, road course qualifying is split into two groups.
Responding to Pockrass’s tweet, the #19 JGR Toyota driver wrote:
“Hopefully they just make it one group and let us qualify, would be super cool to qualify in the wet.”
NASCAR rising star Connor Zilisch also reacted with a one-word reply:
“Fax”
Chase Briscoe has shown strong road course performance, finishing fifth at Watkins Glen last month. NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of the Year contender Connor Zilisch won back-to-back O’Reilly Auto Parts Series races at Watkins Glen (2024 and 2025).
How are Chase Briscoe and Connor Zilisch performing in the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season?
Chase Briscoe and Connor Zilisch had a disappointing start to their 2026 NASCAR Cup Series campaign with an outside top-30 finish at the Daytona 500. Both drivers have had a topsy-turvy season so far, including two DNFs each.
Briscoe has three top-five and four top-10 finishes with an average finish of 18.7 through 11 races. He stands 16th in the NASCAR Cup Series points standings with 242 points.
Whereas Zilisch has failed to score zero top-fives and zero top-10 finishes so far. He stands 33rd in the NASCAR Cup Series points standings with 124 points.
Watch Chase Briscoe and Connor Zilisch in action at Watkins Glen International on Sunday, May 10, at 3 pm ET.

Newport County: What next for Exiles and Leicester hero Christian Fuchs?
But if Fuchs is considering his next managerial move, he is certainly playing his cards close to his chest. In fact, he says work has already begun on preparations to improve upon County’s position of 20th, after a season mostly spent in and around the relegation zone.
“That’s the goal, right? We’ve definitely got to review the whole season, not only the period when I was here, but from the very beginning, to see what mistakes have been made, definitely,” he said.
“But then also, you have those two games that finished the season [that has put the club] in a good place and to push forward.
“We cannot just sit around and see what will happen next season, we need to push forward and need to better the team, need to use that momentum that we just created to push forward.”
Whatever happens in the next campaign, it will certainly be a new-look County squad, with as many as 17 players either out of contract or returning to parent clubs after loan deals.
For Fuchs, keeping key players like Kamwa – who scored vital goals in the final two games of the season – and captain Matt Baker, will be vital. Not to mention stalwarts such as Courtney Baker-Richardson and Cameron Evans.
Loan stars Sven Sprangler, Ryan Delaney, Harrison Biggins and Ben Lloyd have also played their part.
When asked when the recruitment strategy starts for the new season, Fuchs said: “It’s immediately, yes. All that has started already but I’m also looking forward now to a few days off my phone. You cannot really turn it off all the time, but I’m actually really looking forward to after a couple of days.
“To go through those ups and downs – and too many downs for my taste – then at the end to come out on top has just been incredible.
“I like to be in the background and do my job and be humble, but it also felt good, to be honest.”
Most County fans will be hoping that feel-good factor continues next season, with Fuchs in charge.

Chidiac’s 2026 Hawkesbury Crown victory crowns country effort
Winner of the Country Championships Final, Chidiac has transitioned effectively into stakes racing via a gritty close win in the Group Three Hawkesbury Crown.
She thereby delivered apprentice Braith Nock his 300th win overall and a prompt double on the lone-day program post his success with Bella Khadijah in the Midway Handicap (1500m).
Under the colours of magnate Gerry Harvey, Chidiac has forged a formidable record of seven wins across 12 runs, with her Saturday performance likely the pinnacle owing to its impact on her stud value.
“This was stepping over the line for me (Group race) as I like to keep them graded,” winning trainer Brett Cavanough said.
“But with mares, you have to step them out of their zone for black type, and now she has got the job done she is very valuable.
“She was worth $25,000 when I got her, but Gerry will probably discount her for $1 million now.”
Cavanough, who shares the training duties with his daughter Georgie, was equally excited about gifting Nock a milestone moment.
Sydney’s apprentice champion from last term, Nock leads anew with 25 city strikes and perfectly tallied his 300th for his Scone handler.
“I had that in mind all the time, I wanted to give him his 300th winner,” Cavanough said.
“It’s a great result for Braith, the stable, our staff. Everyone involved.”
Cavanough has no firm plans for Chidiac’s path ahead but noted consideration for the Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) at Scone in two weeks’ time.
“But it is job done for the time being. We will see how she pulls up and go from there,” he said.
“The Dark Jewel is 1400 metres, and she gets that, so a bit to think about.”
Chidiac ($4.80) scraped home by the barest margin from Surfin’ Bird ($5), as Arriving Home ($20) clung to third spot.

Runners began the ultramarathon Monday. The event, which covers 253.3 miles, runs through Saturday.

Brian Barber steps down as Monrovia basketball coach after one season
Brian Barber has stepped down as boys basketball coach at Monrovia after one season.
Barber, the longtime coach at Danville, led the Bulldogs to a 14-9 record in his only season at Monrovia. Jon Regashus, the athletic director for several years at Danville during Barber’s tenure there, was hired last week as Greencastle’s AD after one year at Monrovia.
Monrovia Bulldogs head coach Brian Barber high-fives a player on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026, during the game at Monrovia High School in Monrovia.
Barber, who owns a 515-201 record overall in 30 seasons, coached 26 seasons at Danville, where he won 462 games, 12 sectional championships and four regional championships. He started his head coaching career with three seasons at Riverton Parke.

“I’ve officially stepped down at Monrovia to pursue other career interests,” Barber said. “We want to thank the administration, coaches, parents, fans, trainers managers, maintenance and custodian workers and especially the players for a great season.”
It was Monrovia’s first winning season since 2019-20.
Monrovia joins Park Tudor and Zionsville as programs with boys’ basketball jobs to come open this week.
