Argentina women’s hockey team achieved a miracle on Saturday as they beat world No. 1 and three-time defending champions Netherlands in the World Cup final at Wagener Stadium in Amstelveen to lift the title for the third time.Playing in front of a raucous crowd, the South Americans were crowned world champions after winning 3-1 in a shoot-out, following a 1-1 draw at the end of 60 minutes. Goalkeeper Cristina Cosentino was the star, producing a string of superb saves — during the shoot-out as well as in regulation time — to help Argentina pull off the upset.Cosentino was duly named Player of the Match and, speaking after the game, could not have been prouder of her teammates and what they had achieved.After all, this was the first time since 2010 that the Dutch women lost a World Cup final. And 16 years ago, it was Argentina who had beaten them to claim the title for the second time — their first coming in 2002, also by defeating Netherlands.On Saturday, however, it seemed for a long time that Argentina would not be able to repeat that feat. They had lost the 2022 final too, and it looked like history was going to repeat itself as Netherlands took the lead in the 30th minute through Yibbi Jansen from a penalty corner and continued to hold on to their advantage well into the final quarter.But Argentina simply refused to give up.They kept pushing the Dutch back and won numerous PCs. The Dutch defence held firm for much of the contest, but eventually Argentina found a way through in the 54th minute.Following their seventh penalty corner, a mistrap saw Agustina Gorzelany fire the ball towards goal. A Dutch defender managed to get a stick to it, but the ball fell to Maria Granatto, who made no mistake from the left of the D, finding the back of the net to bring Argentina level with six minutes remaining.The equaliser appeared to shake the Dutch, who completely lost their composure in the shoot-out.Pien Sanders, Felice Albers and Freeke Moes all failed to convert their attempts as Cosentino produced a sensational performance in goal. For Argentina, Zoe Diaz’s effort was ruled out for backstick, but Victoria Granatto, Brisa Bruggesser and Sofia Cairo all found the net to seal a 3-1 victory.Earlier, the final was a cagey affair, with neither side creating too many clear-cut opportunities. Late in the first quarter, Pien Dicke had a couple of chances, but Cosentino stood firm to keep the Dutch at bay.Jansen eventually gave the Dutch the lead late in the second quarter, but they were unable to impose the kind of control they are renowned for.Argentina, meanwhile, kept believing and pushing until they finally found a way back into the contest. And when the shoot-out arrived, Cosentino produced the defining moments to help Argentina complete a stunning victory and lift their third World Cup title.Meanwhile, in the other match of the day, Belgium beat Australia 1-0 to finish in third place.

The Nebraska women’s volleyball team continues to dominate the Big Ten and the sport itself. But last season’s early exit in pursuit of a national championship leaves the team wanting more. 

The Cornhuskers finished the year 33-1 after an upset loss to No. 7 seed Texas A&M – who went on to win the national championship – in the Elite Eight regional finals last year. The defeat kept Nebraska out of the national semifinals for the first time since 2002. 

The early exit came as a shock to Cornhuskers’ fans, who had grown accustomed to their semifinals’ appearance for years on end. But the players responded with a second consecutive season with no outgoing transfers and key retention ahead of the 2026 season. If it’s time to prove any sort of volleyball dominance, now seems like a good time. 

Under second-year coach Dani Busboom Kelly and plenty of key pieces returning, the Cornhuskers are back in full force to reclaim volleyball dominance. 

Entering the season as the No. 1 team in the nation, Nebraska returned stars like outside hitters Harper Murray and Skyler Pierce, setter Bergen Reilly and middle blocker Andi Jackson. Reilly and Jackson finished the year with AVCA First-Team All-American honors.

Murray led the team in kills with 379 and added 34 service aces. Jackson trailed Murray with her 288 kills and 16 total service aces. 

What’s also worth noting is that Nebraska spent around $7 million on their 2026 roster – the most of any NCAA women’s volleyball program. While the Cornhuskers had zero outgoing transfers for a second season in a row, Nebraska brought in transfer opposite Allie Sczech from Baylor, who’s primed to help fill the roles of Rebekah Allick and Taylor Landfair, after exhausting their eligibility.

The Cornhuskers have appeared in the national semifinals 18 total times, and have six appearances in the championship game. However, Nebraska has not won a national title since 2017, when it defeated Florida 3-1. 

This season, the Cornhuskers open up their season with a competitive nonconference slate as the nation’s No. 1 ranked team. On Sunday, Nebraska will face No. 2 Texas for a renewed rivalry at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The matchup marks the first time the two powerhouses have met since the 2023 national championship, when Texas defeated the Cornhuskers in straight sets.

A win over the Longhorns would be a strong start for the Cornhuskers’ 2026 campaign and their journey to a national title. 

Adrian Bott harbours hopes that the decision to adopt a patient strategy with comeback galloper Revengeance will result in a lucrative spring reward, beginning with his reappearance in the San Domenico Stakes at Rosehill.

The colt was sidelined from the autumn carnival after undergoing surgery to remove bone chips from a knee, an injury sustained after his victory in the Golden Gift (1100m) in November.

He has been given a gradual build-up to his return to racing. The stable had considered kicking him off in the Rosebud (1100m) a fortnight ago but ultimately decided to save him for Saturday’s assignment.

“We trialled instead. He’d had a long time off and I didn’t want to rush him back,” Bott said.

“Plus he would have had to carry a bit of weight with his Golden Gift win. He will be better suited in the San Domenico.”

Revengeance has been prepared for his comeback with three trials, and his most recent win in a trial impressed Bott.

However, the Tulloch Lodge horseman has cautioned punters that the three-year-old colt will be better suited over distances greater than 1100m as he progresses towards the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) next month.

“He looks fantastic. He’s come back really well and he is stretching out nicely,” he said.

“It might be a bit short for him. I think he’ll be a lovely horse as he gets out to 1400 and 1600 metres.”

Revengeance has drawn barrier six in an eight-horse field and is set to follow the traditional route to the Golden Rose (1400m) via the Run To The Rose (1200m) on September 12.

All going well, connections are also keen for the horse to head to Melbourne, where races such as the Caulfield Guineas (1600m) will be considered.

Tulloch Lodge has achieved success in two of the past four renewals of the San Domenico Stakes, with In The Congo (2021) and Storm Boy (2024) being their winners.

MANILA, Philippines — Jason Kidd was honored to experience a basketball-passionate country like the Philippines as he joined fellow NBA point guard Tony Parker and WNBA legend Lauren Jackson in the launch of NBA House on Saturday at One Ayala in Makati.

Despite the inclement weather, Filipinos arrived at the opening of NBA House as early as 10 a.m. and stayed until the celebrity exhibition game coached by Kidd and Parker.

“The energy. The love of basketball, as much as we love it, you could see the Filipinos love the game of basketball and can play the game at a very high level so we’re very excited to be here,” said Kidd.

Parker and Jackson also took time to hold a brief basketball clinic for the young Filipino kids.

Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala and NBA champion Jordan Clarkson of the New York Knicks also gave a surprise video greeting to kick off the event.

Kidd, a 10-time All-Star and second all-time in assists with 12,091, shared that his most memorable moments in the NBA were getting drafted, when he realized his dream of making it to the league, and winning a championship with the Dallas Mavericks.

Kidd and Dirk Nowitzki overcame the Miami Heat, featuring LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, in the 2011 Finals.

The Hall of Famer attributed his success to Gary Payton, who became his mentor.

“If you have great teammates who want to score the ball, my job is easy. But I think being able to listen to the guys who played the game before me,” said Kidd. “So my mentor was Gary Payton, being able to listen to him, watch him because he played at the highest level, that was my dream was to be able to get to that level and so being able to have great people around me, I listened and then I tried to apply and I worked at it and I got lucky.”

After his storied career as a player, Kidd went into coaching, working with Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks before winning the 2020 NBA bubble championship as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers, led by James and Anthony Davis.

His most recent coaching stint was with the Mavericks, where he steered Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving to the 2024 NBA Finals before falling to the Boston Celtics.

Overhauling the midfield was always going to be Manchester United’s priority in the summer window, but that doesn’t mean it was the only objective on the transfer to-do list.

Away from the midfield arrivals, the only other new name on the United teamsheet at the MKM Stadium last weekend was back-up goalkeeper Karl Darlow and, barring sudden twists, the same will be true at Old Trafford on Sunday.

There will be fewer than 55 hours remaining of the summer transfer window when United kick off against Ipswich this weekend, and failure to add to the squad before the 11pm deadline on Tuesday will not be a good look.

In isolation, the signings of Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos and Carlos Baleba look like solid business. United’s midfield is far better equipped to deal with the strain of trying to compete across four fronts than it was when the window opened, but when the context of those additions is taken into account, can club chiefs really consider this a successful window so far?

Baleba made his desire to join United clear last summer, with Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler even admitting the admiring glance from United had played a part in the Cameroon international’s dip in form last season. If a fee could have been agreed between the two sides in 2025 then the move would have happened, so Baleba’s move this summer wasn’t a particularly difficult deal to do once the two clubs settled on a price.

While the cheapest of the three midfield signings, Tielemans arguably represents the best piece of business United have done this year. The Belgium international adds experience, nous and quality to United’s squad, but the fact United managed to keep their talks with Aston Villa under wraps until the day before the transfer was announced tells you how difficult a deal it was to do. A £35m release clause meant that as soon as Tielemans said yes, the move was done.

Santos was the first new face through the door at Old Trafford this summer. “Can we pay £50m for the player who doesn’t get into your starting XI?” is a good starting point if you’re looking for some smooth negotiations.

The jury is of course still out on United’s new additions, but on the face of it, rebuilding a midfield at a cost of £155m in the current market should be commended.

But with just a few days left of the summer transfer window, more is needed if Carrick is to build on the third-place finish secured last season.

United are in the market for a left-back, yet the move for a back-up to Benjamin Sesko that is so plainly needed shows no signs of materialising.

The clock is ticking and United still have work to do.

NEW DELHI: Former India captain Sunil Chhetri has admitted he feels “a little jealous” watching the current generation get an opportunity to face footballing giants Brazil and Uruguay, revealing that he never got such a chance during his long international career.India are scheduled to host five-time world champions Brazil on October 3 and Uruguay three days later at Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium. The high-profile fixtures will give a young Indian side a rare opportunity to test itself against two of South America’s biggest footballing nations.“I feel a little jealous as a spectator. In my 24-26 years as a professional and nearly 20 years with the national team, I never got an opportunity like this,” Chhetri told the All India Football Federation (AIFF).The former striker, who retired from international football last year, urged the current players to stay fit, compete with determination and make the most of the opportunity. Despite being away from the national-team setup, Chhetri said he remained confident in the squad’s young talent.“This is their time. There are so many talented youngsters in the team. Chhetri also refused to second-guess the coaching staff when asked about selection decisions and the omission of certain players, insisting that the coach was best placed to assess the team’s requirements.“The coach has to answer that. But we all have to be hopeful,” he said on the sidelines of the Football Players’ Association of India’s Indian Football Awards 2026.“At the end of the day, it’s going to be fine. It takes time. Looking at all your faces, we all want things to be fine as soon as possible. It will be. I’m always hopeful. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4 Episode 6 begins as the Enterprise crew prepares to finish their standard shift. Their routine changes when the starship is pulled into a volatile slipstream wormhole. The anomaly damages the Enterprise and disrupts several systems across the ship. A countdown reveals that the entire vessel will be destroyed in less than an hour unless the crew finds a way out.

The initial impact causes serious damage across multiple decks. Power goes down, internal systems stop working, and life support shuts off in several corridors to conserve the ship’s remaining energy. Sickbay also suffers a major impact. A heavy laboratory table breaks loose and crashes into Dr. Joseph M’Benga, trapping him against a bulkhead and severely crushing his internal organs.

Nurse Christine Chapel immediately works to keep M’Benga alive. Her options remain limited as the ship struggles with its own damage. Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr. Philip Boyce examines M’Benga and determines that his injuries are too severe under the current conditions. He tells Chapel to provide comfort care instead and focus her attention on patients with better chances of survival.

Chapel refuses to give up. She remains beside M’Benga and continues searching for a way to save him despite the limited medical resources in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4 Episode 6. Her efforts continue as the Enterprise crew tackles emergencies throughout the ship.

In engineering, Montgomery Scotty struggles with a severe panic attack while structural alarms sound around him. The crisis causes him to question whether he belongs in Starfleet and whether he can handle the demands of his position. Commander Pelia notices his condition and helps him regain control. She reminds Scotty that starships often require unusual solutions and encourages him to trust his ability to solve difficult engineering problems.

Other officers also suffer injuries during the emergency. Commander Una Chin-Riley breaks her leg when the Enterprise’s artificial gravity system suddenly malfunctions. Meanwhile, Spock ventures outside the ship in a dangerous spacewalk to gather telemetry from the surrounding anomaly. The exposure leaves him physically ill, and he returns to the Enterprise vomiting blue bile after being affected by intense cosmic radiation.

Once the Enterprise clears the anomaly, power returns across the ship and its internal systems begin functioning normally again. The injured crew members recover from the ordeal, while the Enterprise safely resumes its scheduled journey.
