Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings have reportedly signed Karnataka all-rounder Macneil Hadley Noronha as a replacement for the injured Ramakrishna Ghosh for the remainder of IPL 2026. Ramakrishna Ghosh will miss the rest of the season due to a fracture in his right foot. This injury occurred during their home match against the Mumbai Indians on May 2, which was also his IPL debut. According to a Cricbuzz report, “CSK have written to the BCCI and await approval to finalise the signing, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed.”
“The 24-year-old Noronha enjoyed a fine season for the Mangaluru Dragons in their title-winning 2025 campaign in the Maharaja Trophy. A powerful striker, he hit 253 runs from 13 games at a strike rate of 148.82. This also included a season tally of 19 sixes. Noronha also bowled off-spin in the competition, taking 10 wickets at an economy of 7.44. This included a best of 2 for 25, which he achieved in the final against Hubli Tigers. He was called up to the Karnataka squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and featured in three games.”
In the only match he played, Ghosh made a strong impression with a sharp diving catch to dismiss Will Jacks. However, he seemed to struggle physically after tumbling in his follow-through while bowling to Naman Dhir, which might have led to his injury.

“Ramakrishna Ghosh sustained a fracture to his right foot during the CSK v MI match at Chepauk. He will take no further part in IPL 2026. Get well soon, Rambo,” CSK said in a statement.
Head coach Stephen Fleming mentioned the setback during the post-match press conference. He expressed both disappointment and admiration for the young player’s quick development.
“His improvement in recent weeks has been noticeable. He has been training really well at our academy sessions. We use two grounds, and he’s been very impressive. It’s disappointing that he got injured toward the end. The other point is that he can bat, and bat well, which is an area of big improvement. So he can genuinely be called an all-rounder,” Fleming said.
Ghosh’s absence adds to a highly disrupted season for the five-time champions. The franchise has already dealt with multiple injuries, including the loss of key Indian bowler Khaleel Ahmed and promising batter Ayush Mhatre in recent weeks.

Their pace options were already limited before the season began, with Nathan Ellis out injured, and his replacement Spencer Johnson was unavailable until recently due to injury. To make matters worse, CSK has been without star player MS Dhoni, who has been dealing with a calf strain since the start of the season.
As injuries continue to mount, CSK’s squad depth will be further challenged as they try to navigate a tough IPL 2026 season without yet another key player.

Benson put the Sabres ahead 3-2 with a power-play goal 4:41 into the third when he shovelled a backhand past Dobes’s glove from the edge of the blue paint while Jake Evans sat in the penalty box for holding.
The Canadiens had failed to capitalize on a four-minute man advantage late in the second into the third period, with Luukkonen denying Ivan Demidov and Nick Suzuki missing the net on a Grade A chance.
Later in the third, Dobes slid across his crease to rob Konsta Helenius on a 2-on-1, dropping his stick to make the save and breathe life into the Bell Centre.

Dobes denied Helenius again with under three minutes left, this time stopping him with the blocker to keep it a one-goal game.
The Canadiens goalie then left his net for an extra attacker with two minutes remaining but Montreal couldn’t muster a quality chance before time ran out.
The renowned Bell Centre atmosphere, earning praise on social media across Canada and south of the border this week, was jacked up following Sunday’s win and hit another deafening peak before puck drop after the energy rattled the Sabres in Game 3.

A strange sequence followed less than two minutes later as Jack Quinn’s scoring chance, which Dobes initially appeared to stop, was ruled a goal and then taken away on a pair of reviews.
Quinn sent a shot into Dobes’s glove off a rebound, leading to a whistle. The officials reviewed the play late in the ensuing TV break, ruling Dobes’s glove crossed the line with the puck.
Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis, however, successfully challenged for goalie interference because Helenius made contact with Dobes before Quinn’s attempt, sending the crowd into a frenzy after the 10-minute delay.

The turn of events completely swung the momentum as red-hot Newhook tied the game at 10:08, converting a pass from Jake Evans for his fifth goal in three games.
Caufield then gave the Canadiens a 2-1 lead with 13 seconds left in the opening period, slipping a cheeky shot between Luukkonen’s legs on the power play after Thompson took a needless cross-checking penalty.
Luukkonen responded early in the second with two stellar saves on Caufield during another Canadiens power play, denying him from the slot before stretching out the pad on a one-timer.
Thompson then scored on a fluky dump-in from centre ice to tie the game on the power play seven minutes into the middle frame. Instead of rolling along the boards behind the net, the puck bounced off an edge in the corner and redirected off Dobes’s pad and in.

Andrey Rublev battled back from a set and a break down to defeat Nikoloz Basilashvili 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-2 and reach the quarterfinals of the Italian Open.
It is Rublev’s first Rome quarterfinal since 2021 and his first Masters 1000 quarterfinal appearance since Cincinnati last year.
When asked about facing Sinner, Rublev could not help but laugh.

After being told five, Rublev joked: “How many, 20 something matches in a row? He’s getting closer to losing. The more he wins the more he gets closer.”
Asked if he was excited for the challenge, Rublev gave another honest response.

Rublev’s comeback win showed plenty of fight after a difficult start, and now he faces one of the toughest tests in tennis against a Sinner who continues to dominate the ATP Tour.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to introduce stricter disciplinary and access-control measures in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) following a series of incidents that have raised concerns within the board over security and anti-corruption protocol violations. “We are forced to issue guidelines in this season of IPL. We saw many incidents which makes the board uncomfortable. We are in talks with IPL franchises to ensure no untoward incidents happen again. There has been lots of indiscipline in this IPL,” a BCCI source told ANI on Tuesday.
The fresh development comes days after BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla confirmed that the board was framing new regulations to control player access and restrict unauthorised interactions in hotels, team buses and other designated secure areas during the tournament.
Speaking in Lucknow last week, Shukla said the measures were aimed at ensuring transparency and strengthening the integrity framework around the league.

“The access that the players have will be controlled; unauthorised people will not be allowed to meet the players, neither in hotels nor on buses, to ensure the transparency of the IPL,” he had said.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had also expressed concern over what he termed “anomalies and irregularities” involving players, franchise officials and outsiders during the tournament.
According to Saikia, the board observed several instances of unauthorised individuals accompanying team members, entering team hotels and even accessing players’ and officials’ rooms, actions deemed to be in direct violation of the IPL’s anti-corruption protocols.
He further noted that certain franchise owners and officials were seen interacting with players in restricted zones where such meetings are prohibited under tournament regulations.

The ongoing season has already witnessed disciplinary action in multiple cases. Riyan Parag, captain of Rajasthan Royals, was fined 25 per cent of his match fee and handed a demerit point after he was caught vaping inside the dressing room during a match against Punjab Kings.
In another incident, Rajasthan Royals manager Ravinder Singh Bhinder was fined Rs 1 lakh for using a mobile phone near the dugout during a game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Guwahati.

Jason Collins, a longtime NBA role player who became widely known in 2013 as the first openly gay active player in a major American sports league, died Tuesday at age 47.
Collins passed away following an eight-month battle with Stage 4 glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer he had been fighting since last August.
The ex-center’s death comes as the NBA is also mourning Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke, 29, with the losses unfolding within a short span.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver released a statement on Tuesday regarding the loss:
“Jason Collins’ impact and influence extended far beyond basketball as he helped make the NBA, WNBA and larger sports community more inclusive and welcoming for future generations. He exemplified outstanding leadership and professionalism throughout his 13-year NBA career and in his dedicated work as an NBA Cares Ambassador.
“Jason will be remembered not only for breaking barriers, but also for the kindness and humanity that defined his life and touched so many others. On behalf of the NBA, I send my heartfelt condolences to Jason’s husband, Brunson, and his family, friends and colleagues across our leagues.”

Collins built a long NBA career as a role-playing center. The 7-footer out of Stanford averaged 3.6 points and 3.7 rebounds across 13 seasons and was primarily used in defensive and physical matchups.
Collins saw rotational minutes for the New Jersey Nets during their back-to-back NBA Finals appearances in 2002 and 2003.
In 2013, Collins drew national attention when he came out in a first-person essay for Sports Illustrated, becoming the first active NBA player to do so. He returned to play one final season with the Brooklyn Nets in 2014 before later serving as an NBA Cares Ambassador.

Collins is survived by his husband, film producer Brunson Green, and his twin brother, Jarron, who followed a similar path through Stanford and the NBA.
Former pro-basketball player Jason Collins, the first active male athlete on a major American professional team sport to come out as gay, has died aged 47.
Collins died after a valiant fight with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, his family said in a statement shared by the National Basketball Association (NBA).

He announced last year that he had been diagnosed with the cancer and was undergoing treatment to stop the spread of the inoperable disease.

Collins said in December 2025 that the cancer was discovered after he was struggling to focus.

The brain tumour, he said, was like “a monster with tentacles spreading across the underside of my brain the width of a baseball”.

Without treatment, he would be dead within three months, doctors told Collins.
When revealing his diagnosis to the world, he said it reminded him of his decision to publicly come out as gay in 2013 in a front-page cover story for Sports Illustrated. The years since were “the best of my life”, he said.
“Your life is so much better when you just show up as your true self, unafraid to be your true self, in public or private. This is me. This is what I’m dealing with.”

Collins was being treated with a drug called Avastin to slow the tumour’s growth, and had been travelling to Singapore for a targeted form of chemotherapy.
The California native played for six teams in his 13 seasons in the NBA. He had previously been featured on Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people list. He retired in 2014.
“Jason changed lives in unexpected ways and was an inspiration to all who knew him and to those who admired him from afar,” his family said on Tuesday.
He started his coming out essay for Sports Illustrated in 2013, by writing: “I’m a 34-year-old N.B.A. center. I’m Black and I’m gay.”

He was a free agent at the time the essay was published, and so it remained unclear whether coming out would end his NBA career.
While there were significant developments for the gay rights movement by then, gay marriage was not legalized across the US until 2015.
Collins went on to re-join the Brooklyn Nets, where he started his career, and became the first openly-gay athlete to ever play across any of the major four US sports leagues.
