Conference Titles for Teams in West Since Realignment
Since the Pac-12’s breakup in 2024 and its reformation as a new conference in 2026, its departed and current teams have won championships in various sports over five different leagues.
Below, we track the titles recorded by teams in the West from the Big Ten (Oregon, USC, UCLA, Washington), the Big 12 (Arizona, ASU, BYU, Colorado, and Utah), and the ACC (Cal, Stanford).
We also track championships won in that timeframe by the region’s Mountain West schools (Air Force, Hawai’i, Nevada, New Mexico, SJSU, UNLV, and Wyoming) and Pac-12 schools (Boise State, CSU, Fresno State, SDSU, UNLV, Utah State, OSU, WSU, Gonzaga).
For completeness, we have also included titles won by schools in the West over the last two years in the WCC (Gonzaga, Oregon State, WSU, Saint Mary’s, Santa Clara).
But we begin with a breakdown of championships in the last two years by program across all sports.

How ‘rebuilt’ Lewis Hamilton could win F1 title after breakthrough victory
A “rebuilt” mind, family and friends, and an innovative part called the Macarena. These are just some of the building blocks in Lewis Hamilton’s resurgence at the front of the Formula 1 field.
The seven-time champion’s breakthrough first win with Ferrari on Sunday, his first since 2024, left him second in the standings and cut into the overall lead of Kimi Antonelli, the driver who replaced Hamilton when he left Mercedes.
Getting back to the front has been a long and painful process and Hamilton shed some light on his journey after the win in Spain.
Mental well-being takes priority
Hamilton said he’d trained harder than ever ahead of this season to keep up with younger rivals like the 19-year-old Antonelli, after an injury dogged him through 2025 and he started to doubt his abilities.
That paid off as Hamilton became, at 41 years, 5 months, the oldest F1 winner since 1970, but it wasn’t all about physical fitness. Mental well-being has been central to his recovery.
“I’ve rebuilt my mind to this point, to get myself back to where I was,” he said Sunday, adding he’d focused on a message of “never second-guess yourself, never doubt yourself.”
That meant a social media detox and valuable real-world time with family and friends.
“I’m only human. So, you know, there’s moments where I see the stuff (on social media) and for sure there’s moments where I allowed it to get to me and penetrate deeply,” he said.
“I went through a sequence of unplugging from that matrix. I spent lots of time with family, lots of time with friends, real people that know me, that have never doubted me, have stuck to and by me my whole life.”
At the track, Hamilton’s had support from Kim Kardashian, while he and his new race engineer Carlo Santi have been exchanging warm words of support over the radio after often-awkward exchanges with Riccardo Adami last year.
Ferrari’s newfound innovation
Signing Hamilton in 2024 was something of a risk for Ferrari, too, given that when the move was announced, his most recent win had been more than two years before.
With plenty of runner-up finishes but no constructors’ title since 2008, under team principal Fred Vasseur’s leadership, Ferrari seems keener to take risks in a push to speed clear of the field rather than just be among the leading pack.
Hamilton talked up his meetings with senior Ferrari staff last year to plan out 2026, and the collaborative approach seems to be working.
“These guys have really listened and really worked hard to add performance and be innovative. This year is all about innovation,” Hamilton said, singling out the “Macarena” rear wing, which turns upside-down for better straight-line speed.
“This is what I was asking for last year. This team has to be the leaders in that, and they’ve shown that they can and they will.”
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff brought out an old F1 cliche Sunday after watching Antonelli break down on track, the second Mercedes non-finish in three races.
“To finish first, first you have to finish,” he told Sky Sports.
Hamilton is the only driver to finish in the top 10 of every race this season while Mercedes seeks to sort out its issues. That streak of results might not last for Hamilton, though. Teammate Charles Leclerc had to retire Sunday with an issue affecting his brakes and steering.
Mercedes still has the edge
Hamilton says an historic eighth title hasn’t been on his mind, and Antonelli’s lead still stands at a formidable 41 points. Still, there are grounds for optimism for Hamilton.
F1 is heading into a run of European tracks which Hamilton knows well — including his home race in Britain next month — and where Antonelli largely underperformed last year.
In terms of car development, Wolff has suggested spending limits could restrict Mercedes’ response to the package of new parts Ferrari used so effectively in Barcelona.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. had the perfect response to Jimmie Johnson’s supposedly drunk Le Mans interview: “What a legend”
Jimmie Johnson found himself at the center of a lighthearted social media moment during the 24 Hours of Le Mans weekend, prompting a hilarious reaction from Dale Earnhardt Jr.
The seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Johnson attended the iconic endurance racing event as a spectator and was interviewed by Radio Le Mans during the race. Shortly after, a fan shared a clip of the interview on X (formerly Twitter), jokingly suggesting that the NASCAR legend appeared to be enjoying himself a little too much. The radio captioned the video:
Thanks for the submission!
“Have a radio le mans interview from this weekend with an incredibly drunk Jimmie Johnson”
The clip quickly gained the attention of Dale Jr., who couldn’t resist joining in on the on fun.
Responding to it, Dale Jr. wrote:
“I know this guy. His name is Jimmie Jam. You haven’t lived until you have raised hell with Jimmie Jam. What a Legend. 🍻”
Former NASCAR driver and JR Motorsports co-owner followed up with another playful message, adding:
“I told yall Jimmie was fun.”
Jimmie Johnson had previously made his 24 Hours Le Mans debut back in 2023, competing in the innovative Garage 56 entry. He shared the driving duties for the heavily modified NASCAR Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 with Formula 1 champion Jenson Button and Le Mans winner Mike Rockenfeller.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Johnson spent years as teammates at Hendrick Motorsports, and their bond has remained incredibly strong long after Dale Jr.’s retirement from full-time racing.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. jokes about quitting all of his NASCAR jobs

NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. recently posted a playful, lighthearted message on X joking about stepping away from all his responsibilities to strictly sell sports collectibles and memorabilia online.
While his tweet went viral on X, Dale Jr. remains deeply tied to the sport. He is heavily involved in his broadcasting roles, co-owns the JR Motorsports team, and even returned to the CARS Tour race in April.
“I’m considering quitting all other jobs, responsibilities, and requirements to just sell stuff on Whatnot and eBay. This isn’t likely, but I’m still gonna consider it for a while.” Dale Jr. wrote.
Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s driver Justin Allagaier secured his fifth win of the 2026 NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series season last weekend at Pocono Raceway. He is leading the points table by 250 points over the defending series champion Jesse Love.

Tortorella makes case to stay after leading Golden Knights to Stanley Cup Final
LAS VEGAS — The Vegas Golden Knights already made one major coaching decision, and now they likely will need to make another one.
They hired John Tortorella with eight games left in the regular season in a move that included firing Bruce Cassidy. But there were no guarantees Tortorella would remain the coach beyond this season.
By taking Vegas all the way to the Stanley Cup Final before the Golden Knights lost in six games to the Carolina Hurricanes, Tortorella would seem to have a good argument to get an extended stay. But he wasn’t ready to think about that Sunday night after a 3-0 loss that ended his team’s season.
“I’ve got to swallow this a little bit,” Tortorella said.
As he has done since coming aboard, Tortorella praised the organization and the players, and even with the loss to Carolina still quite fresh, he didn’t sound like a coach ready to step away as his 68th birthday approaches.
“I feel very fortunate to get to know the team, get to know the organization,” Tortorella said. “It’s a first-class organization. Just to have the opportunity. I wanted to coach. I want to coach. To jump in with this gang, I feel so fortunate.”
The Golden Knights had fallen from first to third place in the Pacific Division when general manager Kelly McCrimmon made the bold move to fire Cassidy, who coached Vegas to the 2023 Stanley Cup.
“If we didn’t have the expectations and the belief in our team that we do, we probably would have let this thing ride out,” McCrimmon said at the time. “We like our team a lot, and we think our team has a chance to win. We needed to make this change to help that happen.”
McCrimmon turned out to be right.
The Golden Knights took off under Tortorella, going 7-0-1 to finish the regular season and claim the Pacific Division for the fifth time in the franchise’s nine years. They then eliminated Utah and Anaheim in six games each in the first two rounds of the NHL playoffs.
Then came the real shocker, a sweep of Colorado, which not only won the Presidents’ Trophy, but also had gone 8-1 in the post-season.
That set up the final with Carolina, and the Golden Knights took 2-1 series lead. But the Hurricanes then won three in a row to capture their first Cup in 20 years and send Vegas players into an offseason of what-could-have-beens.
Should he return, Tortorella likes his chances to make another deep run next year, and the Golden Knights will again possess one of the NHL’s more talented rosters that includes players such as Mitch Marner, Jack Eichel, Pavel Dorofeyev and Mark Stone.
This is also an organization not afraid to go look for more talent.
“I know we’re on the wrong end of it here, but I just feel that’s a strong room,” Tortorella said. “I’m anxious to see what happens next year because it has another chance.”
Doesn’t sound like a coach ready to hang it up.
What management thinks should be known in the coming days.

“Clown”; “That’s my ace” – Fans split on Yankees SP Cam Schlittler’s ‘rage bait’ comment about Blue Jays supporters
New York Yankees starting pitcher Cam Schlittler sparked a debate following his comments about Toronto Blue Jays fans ahead of Saturday’s matchup at Rogers Centre. Some fans viewed them as unnecessary “rage bait,” while others appreciated the confidence heading into their matchup.
“They’re easy to rage-bait, I think,” Schlittler told MLB reporter Bryan Hoch. “All the stuff last year in the playoffs or whatever it is — they’ve got a whole country behind them, so there’s a lot. They’re passionate about it.
“You respect them for that, but I don’t really like them. They ended our season last year. I hope everyone’s got that chip on their shoulder.”
•
Schlittler also said he plans to stay “locked in” and help put the Yankees in a position to win. He added that while Blue Jays fans don’t like the Yankees, they aren’t particularly fond of him either.
Cam Schlittler‘s remarks quickly drew mixed reactions on social media, with fans split over his confidence.
“THAT’S MY ACE 🥹🥹,” one Yankee fan wrote.
“Lmao clown,” another user posted.
“F***ing love this man,” wrote another.
Check out some more reactions:
“Absolutely!!”
“He’s such a good young talent but he comes off as very arrogant and self-centered.”
“Lmaooooo no shot this is real….. what a bum.”
Cam Schlittler added that it was “frustrating” how the Toronto Blue Jays won in the American League Wild Card Series. “We kind of got our (butts) kicked,” he said.
Recalling the 2025 postseason game, the right-handed pitcher said he “wasn’t really too upset” about his performance, but he’s “frustrated” about how the last season ended. The team is still missing Aaron Judge, Trent Grisham and Austin Wells, but it still secured a 2-1 series win against the Blue Jays on Sunday.
Cam Schlittler cites playoff loss as motivation vs. Blue Jays
New York Yankees’ Cam Schlittler believes that the team should enter every matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays with “a chip on their shoulders.” He wants to use the playoff loss as the biggest motivator to reach the offseason stage again in 2026.
“The way it turned out last year, I think it gets a little chippy,” Schlittler said. “I think there’s a lot of mutual respect between both sides. The fans clash more than the players do. They’ve got a great team. They play us really well when we’re here.”
Manager Aaron Boone said that Schlittler’s stuff is so good that as long as he continues to pitch, he can get out of any tough spot. Following an 8-3 win on Sunday, the team will now prepare for its three-game set against the Chicago White Sox.

Seven teams took part in this year’s competition, namely Tower & Friends, Ibiono Ibom Pro, Royalty FC, Dynamic SPMD, Mayflower All-Stars, Greater Tomorrow Academy and Immortality FC.
Greater Tomorrow reached the final after beating Dynamic SPMD 1-0 in the semi-final, while Ibiono Ibom Pro defeated Tower & Friends on penalties following a goalless draw.
The tournament produced 31 goals in nine matches and attracted football fans from within and outside Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking during the grand finale via a telephone call, Europe-based Anthony Bassey praised Godspower Aniefiok for organising the competition.
He said the tournament had promoted unity and brought old friends together. Although he could not travel to Nigeria for the event, he said he followed the competition closely and pledged his financial support.

In his remarks, the Special Guest of Honour, Elder Paul Bassey, commended Godspower Aniefiok for investing in grassroots football.
The Commissioner revealed that Tower personally visited his office to invite him to the final, which influenced his decision to attend the event wearing the player’s Al-Hedod shirt.
He also praised the impressive turnout despite the World Cup match between Germany and Curaçao taking place at the same time.
“For us to have this crowd shows that we love our own. When Tower came to my office to invite me for this final, I told him that I support what he is doing, the Ministry of Sports supports it and God will give him the grace to continue.”
Speaking further, the Commissioner said:
“I am really happy to be here. I am happy with the turnout. I am happy with the quality of football I have seen.”
Elder Paul Bassey expressed delight at seeing several former Akwa United players and noted the presence of the coaches of both state-owned clubs, Ibom Angels and Akwa United.
He also reaffirmed the commitment of the Akwa Ibom State Government to sports development at the grassroots level.
“The Governor Umo Eno-led Akwa Ibom State Government is very intentional about grassroots football and grassroots sports development.”
The Commissioner added that the creation of a stand-alone Ministry of Sports has continued to bring positive results for sports development in the state.
He praised the publicity team for the tournament’s “wide publicity”, which helped attract large crowds, and also commended the Local Organising Committee for delivering what he described as a “successful” competition.
At the end of the tournament, Elder Paul Bassey made personal cash donations to the champions, runners-up and the Most Valuable Player of the competition. He also pledged additional support from the Ministry of Sports and encouraged other football stars to follow Tower’s example.
One of the highlights of the ceremony was the presentation of a Player Development Award to Godspower Aniefiok’s grassroots coach, Emmanuel Ntuk. The award was presented by former Super Falcons coach Edwin Okon.
Emem Eduok, fondly remembered for scoring the first goal at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, presented the 2026 Tower Unity Cup MVP Award to Iniobong Nsima, popularly known as Etiti, of Greater Tomorrow Academy.
Coach Paul Offor of Akwa United presented the runners-up trophy to Ibiono Ibom Pro, while the Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey presented the champions trophy to Greater Tomorrow Academy to officially bring the 2026 Tower Unity Cup to a close.
The competition featured both established players currently playing in Nigeria and abroad, as well as promising grassroots talents who used the tournament as a platform to showcase their abilities.

Antonio Margarito makes ‘honest’ prediction for Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao 2: “I say he wins”
Former world champion Antonio Margarito, who fought Manny Pacquiao in 2010, has offered his take on the Filipino’s expected rematch with Floyd Mayweather.
The Mexican lost a wide unanimous decision to ‘Pac Man’ in their WBC super-welterweight title clash, just two fights removed from his infamous encounter with Shane Mosley.
Prior to suffering a ninth-round stoppage defeat to Mosley, Margarito had been made to re-wrap his hands after being caught with what was described as ‘loaded’ gloves.
Since then, his fighting career has been almost entirely flung into disrepute, with many accusing Margarito of cheating against Miguel Cotto in 2009, too.
But despite being associated with controversy, the 48-year-old is perhaps better placed than most to discuss Pacquiao’s upcoming assignment with Mayweather.
The two Hall of Fame icons are set to square off on September 25, headlining a Netflix event at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena, though an official announcement is still yet to emerge.
If their rematch does go ahead, however, then it is expected to be a fully-sanctioned contest, with Mayweather putting his 50-0 record on the line.
But while the American won their first encounter by unanimous decision, in 2015, Margarito has told Luis Parra that he would favour the 47-year-old Pacquiao.
“Honestly, I’ll tell you something: if they fight again, I’m with Pacquiao.
“Not because I fought him, or because he’s my friend, or because I know him. No, [it’s] because I think Pacquiao is better than Mayweather. That’s what I’ve always believed. If they face each other again, I’d say Pacquiao wins.”
Pacquiao’s latest outing saw him box to a competitive draw with Mario Barrios last July, while the 49-year-old Mayweather has not fought professionally since his 10th-round finish over Conor McGregor in 2017.

George Foreman ranked one heavyweight above Muhammad Ali: “No doubt he’s the best ever”
George Foreman once named the heavyweight fighter that had surpassed the achievements of the legendary Muhammad Ali.
Foreman knew first hand what it was like to share the ring with Ali, having come up short in their iconic ‘Rumble In The Jungle’ meeting back in October 1974.
‘Big George’ would go on to compete for another 20 years after that encounter, becoming the oldest world heavyweight champion in history during the 1990s, and it is another fighter from that era that he deemed to be the best of all time.
While Ali may have been a three-time world heavyweight champion, Foreman claimed that fellow three-time world champion Lennox Lewis is the greatest heavyweight ever.
“There was a time when we used to talk about Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali. and very seldom another name would come in there.
“There’s nobody in the world that can take that from Lennox Lewis now. There’s no doubt that he’s the best heavyweight of all time. What he’s done clearly puts him on top of the heap.
“He’s in there with the all-time heavyweight champions of the world. Recovered the title, did it in a devastating manner. He’s beat everybody, even Evander Holyfield. He became a three-time world champion and he beat a three-time champion along the way.”
Lewis defeated every man he ever came up against, beating the likes of Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson and Vitali Klitschko, whilst also avenging losses to Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman.
A fight between Foreman and Lewis never took place, but former Lewis rival Frank Bruno once predicted how he thought the fight would have gone.
