'Does anyone actually care?': Sreejesh launches scathing attack after India’s World Cup exit
India knocked out of FIH Men’s World Cup 2026 after 3-5 defeat against Argentina

Two-time Olympic bronze medallist and former India goalkeeper P. R. Sreejesh has launched a scathing attack on the Indian hockey management after both the men’s and women’s teams failed to reach the semifinals of their respective World Cups. The men’s campaign ended on Monday with a 3-5 defeat against Argentina at the Wagener Hockey Stadium in Amstelveen, Netherlands. India will now play Belgium in the seventh-place classification match.India’s hopes of reaching the semifinals had already taken a major blow after a 1-3 defeat to co-hosts Netherlands on Saturday. Against Argentina, India needed a win to stay in contention but their defensive frailties and failure to convert chances proved costly.Argentina took the lead just 36 seconds into the contest when Joaquin Toscani punished an error by Jarmanpreet Singh, who failed to intercept a ball across the goalmouth. Nicolas della Torre doubled the advantage in the sixth minute, converting Argentina’s second penalty corner.Sukhjeet Singh gave India a lifeline in the 10th minute, but they were unable to capitalise on their chances in the second quarter. Tomas Domene restored Argentina’s two-goal cushion in the 33rd minute before completing his brace with a penalty stroke in the 45th. Lucas Toscani then made it 5-2.Sukhjeet scored again in the 58th minute and Hardil Singh reduced the deficit further a minute later, but India could not complete the comeback.India also wasted all seven of their penalty corners, once again exposing their struggles to convert opportunities. Despite enjoying possession, they failed to produce enough end product.Sreejesh, who retired after the Paris Olympics, took to X after India’s exits and questioned the approach and accountability within Indian hockey.“Don’t worry… the World Cup doesn’t matter.“The Asian Games are coming. Win a medal there, and then we can start dreaming about LA 2028. Apparently, that’s enough to cover everything that went wrong at the World Cup.“Women’s chief coach on holiday just before the World Cup — and the girls still fought their hearts out and exceeded expectations. Credit to the players. But where is the accountability? Do we really expect a team to perform at its best when the chief coach is away during the final phase of preparation?“Men’s team loses to a top team → ‘It’s a learning experience.’Beats an Asian team → ‘Great victory.’Plays good hockey → ‘Good performance.’“But here’s the uncomfortable question: Are we building a team to PLAY good hockey, or a team capable of WINNING against the best in the world?“Stop hiding behind ‘learning’, ‘good hockey’ and future tournaments. The World Cup is not a rehearsal. It is the World Cup.“So who is going to ask the difficult questions? Who is going to demand accountability? And most importantly… Does anyone actually care?”Sreejesh had previously questioned the quality of Indian coaching after his tenure as the junior men’s team coach was not renewed. He had guided the side to a bronze medal at last year’s Junior World Cup.The women’s team had also missed out on a semifinal place after being held to a goalless draw by Australia in their final second-round match on Sunday. The result sent Australia through to the last four on the basis of having scored more goals. With both Indian teams failing to reach the semifinals, Sreejesh’s comments have added to the scrutiny over India’s ability to consistently compete with the world’s leading hockey nations.

Police close investigation into death of Ed Oliver’s young son

Published

on

On Saturday, the Bills acknowledged that defensive tackle Ed Oliver’s young son died earlier this summer, after a report regarding the tragedy had emerged a day earlier.

On Monday, authorities in Houston closed the investigation regarding the situation.

“The incident was thoroughly investigated by detectives, and their finding [was] no criminal findings,” the Harris County, Texas, Sheriff’s Office said Monday, per the Associated Press. “The case is now closed.”

Oliver’s son, who was nearly two, was found unresponsive in a swimming pool in late June.

Quarterback Josh Allen spoke out on Saturday against the decision to publish information about the boy’s death, saying he was “very, very sad and angry” that the information had come to light before Oliver was ready to share it.

The situation sparked a discussion regarding journalism ethics, with the prevailing view being that the story should not have been shared until Oliver was ready to do so.

What Chelsea’s madcap win over Fulham proves about new era of Premier League – and their title chances

Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa may know each other well but, even after a Chelsea win away to Fulham, the rest of us still don’t know much at all about their teams’ prospects for the season.

On a chaotic opening weekend of the 2026-27 Premier League, this simply took the mayhem to a maximum. Joao Pedro immediately scored after 31 seconds and it never really let up.

Miguel Delaney reports from Craven Cottage:

Alonso defends Sanchez after Chelsea warned goalkeeping errors will ‘haunt’ title charge

But Chelsea were also exposed defensively and Sanchez was twice punished for mistakes as Fulham fought back.

Cole Palmer tells Sky Sports

Asked how ready he was for this season, he jokes: “Did you not watch the game? I’m only joking, I’m ready. It was a difficult season with injuries and whatnot but through the summer and since I’ve been back I’ve worked extra hard.

“Obviously with the injuries I’ve had to try and prevent them and work extra hard day in, day out. I know the talent I’ve got so I can put in performances like that.”

“Normally I’m not an emotional person, the people who know me know I’m not usually bothered about things in life, but over the summer I rested, I recharged and yeah, I’m ready and I’m hungry.”

Gary Neville on Chelsea’s transfer window

“They’ve added an experience player in centre back, centre midfield and centre forward.

“I don’t know if Emi Martinez is available or not but someone like that needs to come in at Chelsea, because that [goalkeeper issues] will undermine everything they do.

“The positives for Fulham came from the encouragement Sanchez gave them with the goals. The goals were both mistakes. It’s a problem.”

Jamie Carragher reacts:

“There were things to really like. On paper, that [Chelsea] front three is sensational. It really is. It looked it in the game. I think Joao Pedro is fantastic. Rogers’ first game, what a start. But when you think of him, Palmer and Pedro – that’s as good as anything in the Premier League right now.

“But I do think [there are] concerns defensively. They conceded a couple of goals and you look at the goalkeeper. They have to sort the goalkeeper issue out because it’s going to come back to haunt them this season, as it did tonight.”

Gary Neville on ‘sensational’ Cole Palmer

“The attacking play, Cole Palmer, sensational. If you talk about Cole Palmer getting back to his best you’ve got a £120m-£125m player there.

“Rogers getting a goal. Those two being electric with Joao Pedro up front. The front three were brilliant tonight. One of the best things I’ve seen this weekend.”

Fulham vs Chelsea player ratings

Xabi Alonso got his Premier League managerial career off to a winning start as Chelsea overcame local rivals Fulham in a five-goal thriller.

Encouraging first glimpse at Xabi-ball

That was far from the perfect performance, but Chelsea fans will absolutely take encouragement from that display as the Xabi Alonso era officially begins.

They stood out in attack, with the trio of Cole Palmer, Joao Pedro and record signing Morgan Rogers doing the business despite the Blues not having many real periods of sustained pressure.

The glaring problem, however, remains in between the sticks.

Wyndham Clark’s meteoric turnaround has 1 main club behind it

Published

on

After his latest victory — his third in the last four months — Wyndham Clark is now firmly in the race for the PGA Tour Player of the Year award, and it all goes back to his putting.

Clark can easily attribute his rapid career turnaround in the second half of this season to his switch to Ping’s Scottsdale TEC Ally Blue Onset CB putter.

At the Valspar Championship in March, Wyndham Clark was lost on the putting greens. He was 147th in SG: Putting on the PGA Tour and ranked 85th in the FedEx Cup after a missed cut.

That week, he used a putter that he had literally purchased from his home club’s pro shop and lost more than half-a-shot per round on the greens.

But at the following event in Houston, Clark first found Ping’s then-unreleased Scottsdale TEC Ally Blue Onset putter. The Scottsdale TEC features a soft, but responsive PEBAX insert that’s proven very popular among pros. Tony Finau has used one since February while Harris English recently switched to a Scottsdale TEC putter in Memphis.

The putter also has a unique white top with Ping’s EyeQ alignment technology, which is aimed at keeping the eye still, which Ping’s research leads to better strokes.

Lastly, the Ally Blue Onset model Clark picked up utilizes a shaft axis that is in front of the center of gravity of the putter, which Ping says leads to a more stable and consistent stroke.

Clark used the standard-length putter for two events before switching to the 38-inch counterbalanced version with a 17g tip weight and 13g of lead tape on the sole. The idea was to make the putter more like his Jailbird, which he used during his first three PGA Tour titles and the 2023 U.S. Open.

Since then, Clark has won three events, including this week and his second U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills. He’s also catapulted from one of the worst putters on the Tour to now one of the best. He led the field in the category at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, where he shot 30 under and won, and at the Travelers Championship the week after the U.S. Open. He’s now up to 16th on the PGA Tour in SG: Putting.

Clark also made history, signing a putter-only endorsement contract with Ping just before his U.S. Open victory. He became the first player in Ping’s 50-plus years of sponsoring Tour players to sign a putter-only contract.

Shedeur Sanders gets more bad news from Todd Monken after Browns name Deshaun Watson QB1

Published

on

The Cleveland Browns have finally made their QB1 decision after weeks of speculation — and unfortunately for Shedeur Sanders, it does not involve him.

On Monday, head coach Todd Monken announced during media availability that Deshaun Watson would start for the team in the Week 1 game at the Jacksonville Jaguars. He said:

“I took in the full body of work over the course of the offseason to training camp to the games, the joint practice, and ultimately felt like to start the season on the road, Deshaun gave us the best chance to move the ball and score points.

“I felt that way going into the last game, but wasn’t sure. And after we talked as a staff and we re-looked at everything, we’re going to go that direction.”

#Browns have named Deshaun Watson their starting quarterback over Shedeur Sanders, league sources say.

Watson had split reps with Sanders during the Browns’ first two preseason games, both losses. Over those two games, Watson had 16 completions for 162 yards and an interception, and he was loudly booed by the home crowd during his reappearance at Huntington Bank Field, which he criticized during his post-game press conference.

Monken, however, reiterated that that negative reaction “absolutely” did not factor into his decision:

“Ultimately, the fans want us to win. That’s our job as coaches, why we’re hired to try and put the best product on the field. And when we don’t, then I understand their frustration. But ultimately they don’t decide who plays.”

Mina Kimes rips Browns for naming Deshaun Watson QB1 over Shedeur Sanders

Fans have not been the only ones unhappy with the Browns’ choice of Deshaun Watson over Shedeur Sanders, however.

In a video posted to Bluesky, ESPN host Mina Kimes ripped the organization for continuing to back a player who, sexual assault allegations aside, has proven to be mostly terrible when he does play — to the detriment of the fanbase:

“The organization, in making this decision, has proven that despite the fact that they have one of the most loyal fanbases in sports, they are not aligned with their fans. They are aligned with their quarterback. Because, like what he said earlier this week, they simply do not care.”

The Browns still have one more preseason game to play — at home against the New England Patriots, with kickoff at 8 p.m. ET. Neither Sanders nor Watson will play — Dillon Gabriel and rookie Taylen Green will split snaps as they dispute the third-stringer position.
