After suffering defeat to Tunisia earlier in the qualifiers, D’Tigers got the response they wanted, holding off the North Africans to secure the victory.
Nigeria Basketball celebrated the victory on social media, writing:

Senegal midfielder Pape Gueye has announced that he will take a break from international football while the current coaching staff remain in charge of the national team.
The 27-year-old made the announcement after Senegal’s painful exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Teranga Lions threw away a 2-0 lead before losing 3-2 to Belgium after extra time in their last-32 match.
Habib Diarra and Ismaila Sarr gave Senegal a deserved two-goal advantage, but late strikes from Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tielemans forced the match into extra time. Belgium then won a controversial penalty in the 125th minute, and Tielemans scored the winner from the spot.

Gueye, who plays for Spanish club Villarreal, started the match but was replaced by Lamine Camara in the 66th minute.
In a message posted on social media, Gueye expressed his disappointment and confirmed his decision to step away from the national team.
“I will come back to say a few words about the elimination, but I am announcing today that as long as this coaching staff is in place, I will be taking a break from the national team,” he wrote.

Gueye has made 45 appearances for Senegal and scored twice during their group-stage victory over Iraq at the tournament.
Senegal coach Pape Thiaw has been in charge since December 2024. His tenure has been marked by controversy, including the incident during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final against Morocco.
During that match, Thiaw led his players off the pitch after Morocco were awarded a stoppage-time penalty. Senegal later returned to complete the game after a delay of about 17 minutes. Although Senegal initially won the final after Gueye scored in extra time, the Confederation of African Football later overturned the result and awarded the title to Morocco.
Senegal have appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and remain hopeful of having the title restored.
Former U.S. Olympic canoeist David Hearn was indicted by a grand jury in Washington, D.C. on charges of vandalizing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, according to court documents released on Thursday.
He was charged with “destruction of property $1,000 or more,” a felony.
The Reflecting Pool has been in the news since President Donald Trump announced that he would fix the “once beautiful” body of water in time for the United States’ 250th anniversary on July 4. The repair project was projected to cost $14 million.
However, the dark blue paint — intended to resemble the blue of the American flag — and coating to line the basin trapped heat from the sun and raised the temperature of the water. That allowed algae to bloom in the pool, turning the water a murky green color.
Workers then treated the water with chlorine and hydrogen peroxide to reduce the algae. But those methods were unsuccessful. Those chemicals also caused the paint at the bottom of the basin to peel off in sheets and float to the top of the pool.

The reflecting pool has been in the news recently for efforts from the Trump administration to make the water in the basin appear a clear blue, presumably to look at its best for the celebration of the United States’ 250th anniversary on July 4. The repairs were projected to cost $14 million and have since surpassed that by at least $2 million.
President Trump blamed vandals for the setbacks with the Reflecting Pool. The National Park Service alleged that the sealant was cut with knives or razors. Hearn was one of the first people to be charged with destruction of government property. Federal officials arrested six others on charges of vandalizing the pool, according to the New York Times.

U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeanine Pirro said she was examining the other cases, some of which would be charged as misdemeanors.

Hearn — not to be confused with PGA golfer David Hearn — competed in three Olympic Games in the canoe slalom, finishing ninth in the C-1 race at the 1996 Atlanta Games. He also raced in the 1992 Barcelona and 2000 Sydney Olympics. Hearn also won six consecutive world championships in the C-1 team competition from 1979 to 1989, and two individual titles in 1985 and 1995.
“I didn’t vandalize anything,” Hearn told the Washington Post at the time. “I didn’t destroy or break or peel anything. By the time I realized what was going on, I was being put in handcuffs.”

Football supporters captivated by the FIFA World Cup can get their hands on the official match ball for under £9. As the tournament progresses into the knockout stages, we’ve uncovered a deal slashing more than 60% off the World Cup 26 Trionda League 350 Football.

Ordinarily retailing at £25 at JD Sports, shrewd shoppers can save more than £16 by registering a free TopCashback account. New members receive a £15 welcome bonus when spending £15 or more, alongside cashback at participating retailers including JD Sports.
Combining both offers means the Trionda football can effectively be yours for £8.69 after cashback, representing a saving of £16.31 or approximately 65%. This offer is exclusively available to new TopCashback members, though existing members can still secure a reduced price of £23.69.
It’s worth highlighting that this deal includes free click and collect, while standard delivery carries a £3.99 charge. Even factoring in postage, the deal considerably undercuts competitors such as adidas, which lists the same ball at £23.
The Trionda League 350 Football is a replica of the ball used throughout every fixture at the World Cup. One consideration is that this particular ball is the ‘350’ edition, meaning that while it matches the dimensions of a standard football, it is lighter at 350g and better suited to younger players, reports Birmingham Live.

Adults might prefer the standard League Ball at £35, or the Pro Ball– the precise version used on the pitch — for £130. Every ball features a design drawing inspiration from the three host nations, incorporating a Maple Leaf, Star and Eagle motif representing each country’s flag.
The adidas World Cup 26 Trionda League 350 Football is available for £8.69 including delivery when shopping through TopCashback. By creating a free account, new members will bag a £15 sign-up bonus and cashback on JD Sports orders.
These feature the adidas performance logo and World Cup 2026 branding. Customers should be aware that the football will be delivered deflated, requiring a pumpfor inflation.
The Topcashback offer arrives as other shops are slashing their prices during the tournament, with Kitbag providing 15 per cent off England’s newest home and away kits using the code AFF15. This brings the adult shirts down to £76.49 (was £89.99) and kids shirts to £55.24 (was £64.99).
Cashback will track and appear in the TopCashback account within seven working days of purchase
The cashback will become payable and available to withdraw and spend after JD Sports has paid TopCashback the commission for the purchase
While the Trionda 350 football hasn’t garnered any reviews from JD Sports shoppers, it maintains a 4.8-star rating at adidas. One buyer commented: “Very nice and great for playing football for kids.”
Another stated “Fabulous product, excellent quality. Would highly recommend.”
While this five-star review states: “Great quality ball.. Perfect weight for kids to practice.”

MANILA, Philippines–Alex Eala had no shortage of motivation coming into her second-round match at Wimbledon.
She was determined to continue her breakthrough run on the grass after never getting past the second round of a Grand Slam since breaking through on the WTA Tour.

And standing across from Eala was a familiar foe in Maya Joint, who handed her an unforgettable heartbreak in the lead-up to her Wimbledon debut a year earlier.
Eala carried the memories of breaking down in tears after receiving her runner-up trophy at the 2025 Eastbourne Open when she defeated Joint, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0, in the 2026 Wimbledon Championships on Thursday night to advance to the third round.
“It’s funny. We had an insane match here at Eastbourne, and I lost, and it hit me quite hard. I cried a lot, and I don’t think I was able to watch those highlights for a couple of months,” Eala said.
She had every reason to be haunted by that 4-6, 6-1, 6(10)-7 loss after holding four championship points, only to lose what would have been her first WTA Tour title as Joint completed the dramatic comeback.

This time, it was Eala’s turn to rally. After dropping the opening set, she finished with a flourish—handing Joint a bagel in the decider to become the first-ever Filipino in the Open Era to reach the third round of a Grand Slam.
The victory is a testament to Eala’s massive improvement over the past year since her dream Miami Open run. She has continued to turn heads by beating Top 10 opponents and has climbed to a career-high No. 29 in the WTA rankings.

“I think I improved a lot in this past year, and I’m happy that I’m able to look back at that loss, and I’m able to smile. Extra motivation to win for sure,” Eala said.

“I’ve been working extremely hard; my team works extremely hard. I really feel like it’s paying off. So this win means a lot.”
Eala still congratulated Joint for her big victory over comeback tennis legend Serena Williams, which came after the Australian battled back injuries and slipped out of the Top 80 this year.

“She obviously is coming off an amazing win. I watched it, and I think she played really well and handled herself really well in that situation. So, congratulations to Maya. Knowing that, I really had to dig deep.”
The Filipino tennis ace also continued to enjoy the backing of fans wherever she played, and it was the same scene at Court 3 of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, where she celebrated her victory to a standing ovation.
“It’s absolutely incredible…I think the atmosphere today was amazing. It was electric, respectful, and all that I could have hoped for,” she said of the crowd.

Now, more history awaits Eala as she faces defending champion Iga Swiatek in the third round.

Timothy Bradley has weighed in on a potential clash between Jaron Ennis and Vergil Ortiz Jr, believing that one man has the fighting instincts to “cook” the other.
The two Americans have been on a collision course since their early professional days, back when they had just emerged as talented welterweight prospects.
Since then, they have both moved up to 154lbs where Ennis, after unifying the 147lb division, is now the reigning WBO and WBA world champion.
The 29-year-old accomplished this by dethroning Xander Zayas last weekend, when arguably a career-best performance saw him score three knockdowns and secure a seventh-round finish.
As an intensely reactive fighter, ‘Boots’ was made to overcome several prickly moments, particularly in round three, but ultimately backed his quicker hands and more potent attacks.
Based largely on his victory over Zayas, many are now regarding Ennis as the top dog at 154lbs, while Ortiz is yet to even become a world champion.
The 28-year-old boasts notable wins over Israil Madrimov and Serhii Bohachuk but has not fought since last November, when he scored a second-round finish over Erickson Lubin.
Even with Ortiz at his best, though, Hall of Famer Bradley has told Ring Magazine that he still sees Ennis winning in one-sided fashion.
“He gonna cook Ortiz just like he [did against] Zayas. ‘Boots’ is willing to take [punches] to [land his own shots].
“It’s not always a good thing, but it works for him. I think he fights off of feeling. If he don’t feel like you’ve got any punch, he’s willing to stand and exchange with you.”
Ortiz’s legal dispute with Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy has kept him on the shelf, but the Texan is now expected to return later this year.
