Feds say fake 49ers player swindled $1.3M from women
Feb 4, 2026; Santa Clara, CA, USA; A large San Francisco 49ers helmet at Levi’s Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images Federal authorities claim a man posed as a San Francisco 49ers player and scammed more than two dozen women out of about $1.3 million.
The FBI arrested Daejon Love, 35, and his alleged accomplice Taylor Jamie Chan, 18, on Aug. 24 in Boise, Idaho. They were charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office in the District of Oregon. The men remain in federal custody in Boise.
In a scheme that began in February 2022 and spanned more than four years until the Aug. 24 arrests, authorities say Love created fictitious personas to meet women on dating apps, presenting himself as a player for the Niners. To support that claim, he posted photos on social media wearing official team gear and posing with luxury vehicles.

The pair allegedly created fictitious investment opportunities to defraud 26 victims in California, Idaho, Washington and Oregon. The FBI believes there are “many more victims” out there.
“Love convinced many of the victims they were in sincere romantic relationships, that he was a sophisticated investor, and that Chan was his investment adviser who helped Love grow a fortune worth tens of millions of dollars,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a statement. “Love had romantic relationships with many of the victims and told them he wanted to build wealth and a future together. Love advertised nonexistent investment vehicles and claimed these investments would generate massive returns for both him and his victims.”
None of the alleged victims interviewed said they received any return on their investments, or repayments for loans made to Love and Chan.
The U.S. Attorney’s office said Love would block communications with the women after they ran out of funds to invest or asked too many questions.

Gold Coast Titans vs South Sydney Rabbitohs Preview
South Sydney needs an immediate response after a 45-26 loss to the Warriors reduced its buffer over ninth-placed Canterbury to two points. Gold Coast led at halftime against Cronulla before falling 30-22, its fourth consecutive defeat, and now faces another major defensive test. Latrell Mitchell has been named among the Rabbitohs’ reserves as he pushes for a return, while Jai Arrow is listed symbolically before Cameron Murray takes over at lock under an approved arrangement. Josh Patston replaces the injured Beau Fermor for the Titans. South Sydney has won 10 successive meetings with Gold Coast and has consistently found space at Cbus Super Stadium. With Cody Walker directing a dangerous left edge and Alex Johnston in strong scoring form, the visitors possess the sharper combinations and greater finals incentive.

Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney targeted by KO artist former world champion
Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney are looking towards separate unification bouts, but there is one former world champion that is in hot pursuit of a challenge for both men’s titles, believing that the duo will ultimately have ‘no choice but to fight him’.
Lopez dethroned Rolando Romero to capture the WBA welterweight title this month and ‘The Takeover’ is now eyeing up a unification clash against Ryan Garcia, should he retain his WBC title against Conor Benn in two weeks.
Meanwhile, Haney was set to make a first defence of his WBO welterweight title against Keyshawn Davis until the latter pulled out of the contest. Since then, it has become clear that IBF welterweight ruler Liam Paro is Haney’s new target, but it remains to be seen whether that fight can be made.
In an interview with Ring Magazine, Brian Norman Jr., whom Haney defeated to get his hands on the WBO belt back in November, revealed his plans to secure a shot at Lopez’s belt.
“I have been wanting it [the Teofimo Lopez fight], we have been trying to make it in the past but he said no. So, now that he is a champion at 147, what’s up?
“Hell no, he still don’t [want the fight]. Like I said, they have a reason to avoid me and they will use it.”
Norman then went on to state that he is also targeting a rematch with Haney, which he believes will be mandated in 120 days’ time due to his status as the number one contender in the rankings.
“I’mma box ‘em up, they can’t do anything if I am number one in all rankings and that mandatory time hit. For example, Devin Haney, 120 days Keyshawn Davis didn’t take it but guess what? I will. So, 120 days, once that time is up then Devin Haney has to fight me.
“It’s the same thing with the other rankings, they will have to fight me. At that point, what can you do except drop the belt? Fight me or drop the belt.”
Haney should be able to delay an ordered fight with Norman by agreeing to a title unification – which would take priority over a mandatory defence – although it would appear that his solitary option is Paro, with Lopez and Garcia looking poised to collide unless Benn spoils those plans.

What to Know About the Milwaukee Mile
The Milwaukee Mile sits on the grounds of Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis, Wisconsin. The 1.015-mile oval opened in 1903, making it the world’s oldest continuously operating motor speedway. It features 9 degrees of banking in the turns.
Drivers cannot stay flat through the corners, so the short oval drives more like a road course. The track rewards cars that can rotate through the turns without giving up speed on the straights.
How Long Are the Milwaukee Mile Races?
Both races are scheduled for 250 laps and 250 miles. Saturday opens the only doubleheader on the 2026 INDYCAR schedule, while Sunday closes the weekend and serves as the final oval event of the season.

Palou enters Milwaukee with 553 points, 91 ahead of Kirkwood. Christian Lundgaard is third with 443 points, followed by David Malukas with 411 and Pato O’Ward with 399.

Who Won the Most Recent Milwaukee Mile Race?
Christian Rasmussen won at Milwaukee in 2025 after passing Palou with 16 laps remaining. It was Rasmussen’s first INDYCAR victory.

NC State ($0.37) vs. Virginia ($0.65)
The Wolfpack have dominated this rivalry in recent years, winning four consecutive meetings and six of the last seven overall. However, Virginia is coming off a record year, setting a school record 11 wins last season. The Cavaliers have won eight of their last nine season openers, while NC State has lost each of its past four games on the road.
Virginia is set to start quarterback Beau Pribula on Saturday, who went 7-3 as a starter at Missouri last season. He finished the 2025 campaign with a 67.4% completion percentage, 1,941 passing yards, and 17 total touchdowns. The SportsLine Projection Model is calling for Virginia to secure a 30-24 victory over NC State.
The Cavaliers winning by more than 5.5 points is trading at $0.45 per share at Kalshi. Virginia to win by fewer than 5.5 points or lose the game outright is trading at $0.56. Claim the newest Kalshi promo code CBSSPORTS, trade $25, and get $25 in trading bonus credits:
Memphis ($0.37) vs. UNLV ($0.64)
Both Memphis and UNLV featured high-powered offenses last season. UNLV averaged 34.1 points per game in 2025, while the Tigers scored 32.5 points per contest. However, Memphis is dealing with massive roster turnover. The Tigers have just one returning starter, tied for the second fewest in FBS, and a school-record 53 incoming transfers in 2026.
Meanwhile, UNLV is seeking a school-record fifth consecutive season-opening win, and head coach Dan Mullen has a track record of success. Mullen secured the most wins (10) by a UNLV head coach in his first season in 2025. SportsLine’s model is projecting a hard-fought battle on Saturday night, with UNLV securing a 35-31 victory.
The Rebels winning by more than 6.5 points is trading at $0.46 per share. UNLV to win by fewer than 6.5 points or lose the game outright is trading at $0.56. Trade on college football here with the Polymarket promo code CBSSPORTS and get a $20 bonus after a $10 deposit:

A Cypress Point round to cherish: ‘I don’t think anyone has done that’
Not every golfer gets to play Cypress Point. And almost no one gets to do so while cruising on a cart with music blasting from a Bluetooth speaker.
Tommy Morrison is a rarity. He can tell you exactly what that’s like.
The 22-year-old University of Texas alumnus, who is currently enjoying a rocket-shot debut season as a touring pro, enjoyed a full dose of Cypress Point last year while representing the United States in the 2025 Walker Cup. Just being on the team was a dream come true. Throw in the storied venue, and the experience became surreal.
“It was probably the coolest week I’ll have in my golfing life,” Morrison said during a recent appearance on GOLF’s Subpar podcast.
The U.S. team arrived in Monterey the week before the matches, playing Pebble Beach on Monday. After that, Morrison said, it was Cypress Point “sunrise to sundown.”
That meant plenty of time to soak up one of the world’s most revered courses — on four wheels, with a soundtrack.
Among the perks, Morrison recalled, was brezing around the back nine with a Bluetooth speaker “playing as loud as I could.”
“I don’t think anyone has done that,” Morrison added.
Then came the competition.
Morrison was paired with Jackson Koivun in Saturday’s alternate-shot session. Koivun striped their opening drive down the fairway. Morrison’s next shot? Not quite as pure.
“I knifed a wedge over the green,” he said, grinning.
Morrison and Koivun lost their match to Tyler Weaver and Connor Graham, but that was just a small bump on an otherwise smooth road. The Americans dominated Sunday’s singles matches to cruise to a 17-9 victory and retain the Walker Cup.
And then it was over.
Co-hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz lamented that the Walker Cup lasts just two days; both suggested the event be expanded to three.
Morrison agreed.
“It goes by too fast,” he said.
Like youth itself.

Reds place 3B Ke’Bryan Hayes (groin) on injured list
Aug 4, 2026; Cincinnati, Ohio, USA; Cincinnati Reds third baseman Ke’bryan Hayes reacts after striking out against the Athletics in the fifth inning at Great American Ball Park. Mandatory Credit: Aaron Doster-Imagn Images The Reds placed struggling third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes on the 10-day injured list Friday due to a left groin strain.
The move is retroactive to Thursday. In a corresponding transaction, Cincinnati recalled infielder Edwin Arroyo from Triple-A Louisville.
Hayes last played on Wednesday, going 1-for-4 in a 10-9 win at San Francisco. He was replaced by pinch hitter Tyler Stephenson in the ninth inning.
Hayes, 29, also was on the IL from May 21 to July 9 because of a bulging disc in his back. He is batting a career-low .153 with five home runs and eight RBIs in 78 games. His .213 on-base percentage, .250 slugging percentage and .463 OPS also are career lows.
A Gold Glove winner in 2023 and 2025, Hayes is a career .245 hitter with 47 homers and 233 RBIs in 706 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates (2020-25) and Reds (2025-present). Pittsburgh selected Hayes in the first round (32nd overall) of the 2015 MLB Draft.
Arroyo, 23, has batted .244 (32-for-131) with five RBIs in 44 games since making his major league debut on June 1. He was hitting .309 with 15 homers and 43 RBIs in 72 games for Louisville.

Report: Titans WR Wan’Dale Robinson not believed to have concussion
Aug 4, 2026; Nashville, TN, USA; Tennessee Titans wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson (4) goes through drills during training camp at Vanderbilt Health Football Center. Mandatory Credit: Steve Roberts-Imagn Images Tennessee Titans wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson is not believed to have sustained a concussion in Thursday’s joint practice with the Bears, NFL Network reported Friday.
Robinson underwent tests after a helmet-to-helmet hit from Chicago safety Xavier Woods, a shot Tennessee coach Robert Saleh characterized as “cheap.”
The Titans will continue to check Robinson for potential concussion symptoms but “early indications are positive,” per the report. He walked to the locker room under his own power following the hit as a fracas broke out on the field and the two teams had to be separated.
Robinson, 25, signed a four-year, $78 million deal with the Titans in free agency after four seasons with the New York Giants. Robinson set career highs across the board last season with 92 catches for 1,014 yards and four touchdowns.
