What to Know About the Milwaukee Mile

The Milwaukee Mile sits on the grounds of Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis, Wisconsin. The 1.015-mile oval opened in 1903, making it the world’s oldest continuously operating motor speedway. It features 9 degrees of banking in the turns.

Drivers cannot stay flat through the corners, so the short oval drives more like a road course. The track rewards cars that can rotate through the turns without giving up speed on the straights.

However, Virginia is coming off a record year, setting a school record 11 wins last season. Virginia is set to start quarterback Beau Pribula on Saturday, who went 7-3 as a starter at Missouri last season. He finished the 2025 campaign with a 67.4% completion percentage, 1,941 passing yards, and 17 total touchdowns. Memphis ($0.37) vs. UNLV ($0.64)

Both Memphis and UNLV featured high-powered offenses last season. UNLV averaged 34.1 points per game in 2025, while the Tigers scored 32.5 points per contest. However, Memphis is dealing with massive roster turnover. The Tigers have just one returning starter, tied for the second fewest in FBS, and a school-record 53 incoming transfers in 2026. 

Meanwhile, UNLV is seeking a school-record fifth consecutive season-opening win, and head coach Dan Mullen has a track record of success. Not every golfer gets to play Cypress Point. And almost no one gets to do so while cruising on a cart with music blasting from a Bluetooth speaker.

Tommy Morrison is a rarity. He can tell you exactly what that’s like.

The 22-year-old University of Texas alumnus, who is currently enjoying a rocket-shot debut season as a touring pro, enjoyed a full dose of Cypress Point last year while representing the United States in the 2025 Walker Cup. Just being on the team was a dream come true. Throw in the storied venue, and the experience became surreal.

“It was probably the coolest week I’ll have in my golfing life,” Morrison said during a recent appearance on GOLF’s Subpar podcast.

The U.S. team arrived in Monterey the week before the matches, playing Pebble Beach on Monday. After that, Morrison said, it was Cypress Point “sunrise to sundown.”

That meant plenty of time to soak up one of the world’s most revered courses — on four wheels, with a soundtrack.

Among the perks, Morrison recalled, was brezing around the back nine with a Bluetooth speaker “playing as loud as I could.”

“I don’t think anyone has done that,” Morrison added.

Then came the competition.

Morrison was paired with Jackson Koivun in Saturday’s alternate-shot session. Koivun striped their opening drive down the fairway. Morrison’s next shot? Not quite as pure.

“I knifed a wedge over the green,” he said, grinning.

Morrison and Koivun lost their match to Tyler Weaver and Connor Graham, but that was just a small bump on an otherwise smooth road. The Americans dominated Sunday’s singles matches to cruise to a 17-9 victory and retain the Walker Cup.

And then it was over.

Co-hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz lamented that the Walker Cup lasts just two days; both suggested the event be expanded to three.

Morrison agreed.

“It goes by too fast,” he said.

NEW DELHI: Hockey India has announced a Rs 50 lakh cash reward for the Indian women’s hockey team after their impressive fifth-place finish at the FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup 2026 in Amstelveen. The reward comes after India recorded their best finish at the World Cup in 52 years, underlining the progress made by the team during the tournament.

India finish fifth after beating Germany

Led by captain Salima Tete, India signed off their campaign with a convincing 3-1 victory over world No. 5 Germany in the classification match to secure fifth place. The result marked India’s second-best finish in World Cup history. Their only better performance came at the inaugural edition in 1974, when they finished fourth.India’s latest campaign was particularly notable for their consistency against some of the world’s leading teams.

One defeat throughout the tournament

Under chief coach Sjoerd Marijne, India suffered only one defeat during the competition. The team held strong sides including China, England and Australia to draws, while producing an emphatic 6-1 victory over South Africa.Hockey India’s reward package will be shared between the players and support staff. Each member of the playing squad will receive Rs 2 lakh, while members of the support staff will be awarded Rs 1 lakh each.Congratulating the team on the achievement, Hockey India president Padma Dr Dilip Tirkey said, “This is a historic result for Indian women’s hockey. To finish fifth at a World Cup after 52 years is a testament to the hard work, resilience and fighting spirit this team has shown throughout the tournament. On behalf of Hockey India, I am pleased to announce a cash award of Rs 50 lakh for the team as a token of our appreciation, and I hope this inspires the players to keep raising the bar.“Reflecting the president’s sentiments, Hockey India secretary general Bhola Nath Singh said, “Salima and her team have done the country proud with a campaign that saw them compete with, and hold their own against, some of the best sides in the world. This announcement is our way of recognising their commitment and hard work, and we hope it further motivates the team as they turn their focus towards the Asian Games.”

Wild Atlantic is slated to contest the San Domenico Stakes, aiming to emulate his sire Exceedance’s success, albeit on his maiden race start.

Exceedance triumphed in the sprint race in 2019 for Team Hawkes after three starts. If Wild Atlantic can follow suit, a path towards the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) may be considered.

A $320,000 Magic Millions purchase, Wild Atlantic’s resemblance to his sire was a key factor in his acquisition by trainers.

“He was a lovely colt, and he actually looked a lot like Dad,” Michael Hawkes stated. “He’s done everything right. He’s just taken a bit of time, probably a bit like Dad as well. He’s had some nice trials, a good grounding. Yes, he’s in the deep end on Saturday. If anything, he lacks the race craft because he is obviously unraced, where a lot of these have started and they’ve won numerous times. But he’s definitely got the ability to be there. Everyone has seen that with his trials, and we have too. It’s more about him having the right run in transit. He’s drawn a good barrier to get that now, and he’s going to have his chance.”

Despite his lack of race experience, Wild Atlantic has had five trials, winning four. His latest trial showcased a significant turn of foot, leading to a substantial market shift from $26 to $7, placing him behind the $2.10 favourite Blue Door, Golden Slipper winner Guest House ($5), and Warwoven ($5.50).

Hawkes expressed his excitement for the colt’s race debut, indicating the stable would not enter him in a Group race first-up without belief in his potential to finish strongly.

The stable adopted a similar strategy with Nepotism, who debuted at $41 in the 2025 Todman Stakes, finishing placed before winning the Baillieu (1400m) and Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) in his next two starts.

“He’s a colt with a lot of raw talent and it’s exciting that he’s stepping out,” Hawkes said. “First and foremost, you’ve got to know whether they’ve got the ability or not. It’s not just throwing them in the deep end, it’s knowing if they’ve got that ability. We did it with Nepotism at his first start, and he arguably should have nearly won. He placed at massive odds then ended up coming out and winning a Group One mile at Randwick.”

Tyler Schiller will ride Wild Atlantic from barrier four, aiming for his first win in the three-year-old feature. Hawkes Racing is aiming for its fourth San Domenico Stakes victory in the last 25 years, having previously won with Nostradamus (2014), Star Turn (2016), and Exceedance.

India’s spirited fightback ended in heartbreak as Belgium prevailed in a tense penalty shootout after the two sides played out a thrilling 3-3 draw in regulation time. India had made the brighter start and took the lead through Abhishek, whose sixth-minute field goal gave the hosts a 1-0 advantage. Belgium responded with sustained pressure, earning multiple penalty corners, but India’s defence held firm.The match changed dramatically in the second quarter. Roman Duvekot restored parity for Belgium with a close-range finish before Hugo Labouchere put them ahead with a powerful drag-flick from a penalty corner. Belgium went into half-time 2-1 up.India came out strongly after the break and levelled through captain Harmanpreet Singh, who converted a penalty corner with a superb drag-flick in the 31st minute. Belgium challenged the goal with a review, but the decision went India’s way.The third quarter remained fiercely contested, with Belgium applying pressure and India creating opportunities of their own. Despite Belgium enjoying more possession, India held their shape to take the scores level at 2-2 into the final quarter.

Belgium strike again, India refuse to give up

Belgium regained the lead in the 47th minute when Nicolas de Kerpel fired home a field goal. The goal was referred for a possible obstruction, but the original decision was upheld and Belgium moved 3-2 ahead. India were dealt another blow when veteran Manpreet Singh took a stick to the face and left the field for medical attention.With time running out, India pulled their goalkeeper in favour of an additional outfield player and threw numbers forward in search of an equaliser. Their gamble paid off in dramatic fashion.Harmanpreet struck again in the 60th minute, finding the target to make it 3-3 and force a penalty shootout.

Shootout drama ends India’s hopes

The shootout began disastrously for India. Harmanpreet’s first attempt was saved by Belgium goalkeeper Vincent Vanasch after the Indian captain appeared to stop while expecting a whistle. Belgium converted their opening attempt, while Vanasch then denied Sukhjeet Singh as well.India eventually found their rhythm. Shilanand Lakra opened India’s account before Belgium restored their advantage. Dilpreet Singh then converted to bring the shootout level at 2-2.Belgium regained the lead through a penalty stroke after Mohith was penalised for a foul on Van Dessel, with Hendrickx converting. India stayed alive when Abhishek scored to make it 3-3.The decisive moment came when Duvekot found the target for Belgium. India took a referral in an attempt to overturn the decision, but the call stood.Belgium therefore won the shootout and ended India’s brave fight after an extraordinary contest and they finish 8th in this World Cup.
