Indian men’s football team head coach Khalid Jamil on Monday named a 26-member squad for next month’s FIFA international window, with the Blue Tigers set to face Panama, Brazil and Uruguay in high-profile friendlies.

India will take on Panama on September 26 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru before travelling to Kolkata to face five-time world champions Brazil on October 3 and two-time world champions Uruguay on October 6.

All three opponents featured at the FIFA World Cup earlier this year, providing India with a stern test against higher-ranked opposition as Jamil looks to assess his squad ahead of the team’s upcoming assignments.

The national camp will begin in Bengaluru on September 14, with the team scheduled to travel to Kolkata on September 28 following the Panama game.

The three-match series will be a major test for Jamil’s young side, particularly against Brazil and Uruguay, two of the most decorated teams in international football.

Autopsy Notes: Nailed the receiver position. Ditto for the fullback spot (but that’s considerably less impressive). Where I had a huge whiff was at quarterback, especially since I had a full piece insisting that Kevin O’Connell hinted Max Brosmer wasn’t going to make it. The Michael Jurgens injury was a surprise since that knowledge wasn’t publicly available; missing the guess here is forgivable, I’d say. Opting for Claiborne over Scott is an instance of Minnesota betting on youthful upside while I bet on veteran sturdiness. Almost certainly, Claiborne would have gotten poached from the practice squad.

The professional career of Oleksandr Usyk is approaching its final chapter, and the targeted opponent and date for his finale has been revealed.

Usyk almost suffered a shock defeat when defending his heavyweight crown against Dutch kickboxer Rico Verhoeven at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt back in May, before rallying to a much-needed round 11 stoppage – albeit a controversial one.

During the aftermath, the reality that Father Time may have caught up with the 39-year-old seemed to convince him that he needed to preserve his legacy and hang up the gloves; hoping to do so with his undefeated record intact.

Although, despite the desire to remain unbeaten, the Ukrainian has been linked to a showdown with former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, who has underwhelmed in recent fights but remains heralded as one of the most fearsome knockout artists in boxing history. 

Now, Usyk’s advisor Serhii Lapin has confirmed the truth of those reports and informed The Ring’s Mike Coppinger that a fight with Wilder is being planned for a United States card next March, as per Inside Ring Show.

“Ring Magazine heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk is targeting a fight with Deontay Wilder in March 2027 in the United States, Usyk’s advisor, Serhii Lapin told The Ring’s @MikeCoppinger.”

Usyk has not fought stateside since his heavyweight debut against Chazz Witherspoon in 2019, but the veteran has previously expressed his desire to fight in New York; which must now be considered as the frontrunner to host ‘The Last Dance’ of the two-division undisputed world champion.

The BBC has announced that popular winter sports programme Ski Sunday will no longer be produced after nearly 50 years on the air.

The show, which rounds up the latest alpine skiing action alongside features exploring a wide array of snow sports, has been a staple of the broadcaster’s output since first airing in 1978.

But while the channel will continue to show parts of the Winter Olympics, the seasonal weekly programme has been axed as the BBC continues to evolve its sport output.

Ski Sunday’s demise follows that of Football Focus, which came to an end after 52 years on air earlier in 2026.

“Ski Sunday has been a truly iconic programme and a much-loved part of BBC Sport‘s output for many years,” Philip Bernie, head of events at BBC Sport, said. “Generations of viewers have enjoyed its coverage of the best in winter sports. We are enormously proud of the role it has played in bringing these moments to audiences across the UK, and extremely grateful to the brilliant people who have delivered them, not least the current outstanding team.

“These decisions are never easy, but as audience viewing habits evolve and we work to deliver value for licence fee payers, we have to make tough choices. We remain committed to bringing audiences the very best of winter sport, above all at the Winter Olympics, across BBC Sport’s platforms.”

Originally launched in 1978 to follow on from the 1976 Games in Innsbruck, the programme later formed part of Sunday Grandstand. It was fronted for many years by David Vine, with former skier Graham Bell and snowboarder Ed Leigh later forming a popular presenting partnership.

Four-time Olympian Chemmy Alcott joined the programme alongside Leigh in 2021.

Fans continue to wait for an official announcement for the fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, and now Alex Krassyuk, who promoted Oleksandr Usyk for his bouts against Joshua and Fury, has offered his thoughts on the long-awaited grudge match.

Usyk twice outpointed both ‘AJ’ and ‘The Gypsy King’ in the four standout performances of his heavyweight career – which looks set to come to a close in six months’ time – but it now seems as though Joshua and Fury will finally collide.

Still, it is recognised by the masses that Joshua and Fury are both past their sell-by date, after AJ was twice floored by the previously-unknown Kristian Prenga, whilst it took Fury seven rounds to dispatch of a 46-year-old Mariusz Wach in July.

Speaking to Boxing King Media, Krassyuk, who left Team Usyk before Joshua joined, labelled Fury-Joshua as a ’50/50’ and highlighted the fact that, whilst Joshua’s chin consistently comes into question, Fury was dropped by Deontay Wilder on four occasions.

“It is a 50/50, absolutely. Both guys have good and bad sides, if you compare those and you evaluate it for both, you will come to the conclusion that it is a 50/50 fight because anything may happen. AJ can go down from Prenga twice on the first round, the same can happen to Tyson Fury, he was down however many times in his three fights with Deontay Wilder.”

However, Krassyuk went on to explain that the version of Joshua that existed before he fought Usyk would make easy work of Fury, advising the two-time world champion to adopt an aggressive approach to the contest.

“It is always a matter of how guys approach, we can go a little bit deeper into tactics. If AJ continues the way that he boxed in the last five/seven rounds, I don’t see many chances for him. Before fighting Usyk, he was an animal, he was a beast. He was just coming in and trying to kill his opponent.

“After fighting Usyk, he suddenly wanted to start to become a boxer, but he had only 40 fights in the amateurs and Usyk had 400. How can you become [as good of a] boxer without fighting those other 360 fights? No chance. So, you have to improve your advantage and just work well with where you are missing.

“He shouldn’t have become a boxer. You have a horse-power fist, you have an extraordinary jab, you can kill a man in front of you with only your jab, if you come hard, I am now on AJ’s side. If you come hard and you start hitting your best punches, you can finish the guy in three/four rounds. Two or three proper punches landing on Fury’s chin and it is game over.”

It remains unclear whether Fury-Joshua will go ahead as a dispute over the location rumbles on.

Proxima Dea has ascended to favouritism for the upcoming VRC Oaks after maintaining her perfect race record by defeating more seasoned competitors in the Midway Handicap (1800m) at Rosehill Gardens this past Saturday.

The race produced a thrilling conclusion, with the swift galloper Doradus building a considerable six-length lead as the field entered the straight, only for Proxima Dea to eventually catch the front-runner in the closing stages.

Leading trainer David Payne has indicated his intention to prepare his promising filly for the Oaks at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup Week festivities in early November.

“This filly has a lot of upside and will stay all day,” Payne commented.

“She’s very promising and I want to get her to the Oaks in the spring, that’s her main mission.

“I’ll give her 10 days in the paddock now to freshen her up as she’s very fit.

“I might look at a race like the Gloaming Stakes for her and then decide whether we stay in Sydney or send her straight to Melbourne for the Oaks.”

Proxima Dea, priced at $4, recorded her third win from as many starts in her debut racing preparation, closing strongly to defeat Doradus ($3.40) by a short head, with Prefer Diamonds ($51) a further half-neck adrift in third position.

The highly competent apprentice jockey Braith Nock piloted Proxima Dea with considerable skill, remaining composed when Doradus established a significant lead.

“I was happy enough with the run that we had,” Nock stated.

“It was a fast tempo and she was a little out of her comfort zone just to stay in touch so I didn’t want to go for her too soon.

“But when the pressure went on, she was tough right to the end.”

Proxima Dea has firmed in the betting to $8, sharing top billing with Miss Chanel for the prestigious Group 1 VRC Oaks (2500m) at Flemington on November 5.

Further afield, there are significant racing ambitions for the emerging talent Zalique, who managed to overcome a wide barrier to prove superior to his rivals in the TAB Highway (1400m).

Guided by an aggressive ride from champion jockey Tommy Berry, Zalique ($4.40 favourite) advanced from his wide draw to sit outside the early pace-setters before drawing clear to win by one-and-a-quarter lengths from Giddy Up Griff ($6), with Xtreme ($5.50) finishing a close third.

Trainer Matt Dunn, who was not present but spoke with Racing And Sports following the race, expressed a positive view of the developing Zalique, who has now achieved three consecutive wins this preparation from just five career starts.

“He’s only lightly-raced and still learning but he’s a promising horse,” Dunn conveyed.

“I would think he’s an ideal type for the Country Championships next autumn but I wouldn’t rule out having a look at The Kosciuszko (Everest Day, October 17).

“He puts himself into a race early, gets up on speed and gives himself every chance. He’s certainly racing in very good form.”

Elijah Moore entered Philadelphia Eagles training camp as part of a crowded wide receiver competition. He emerged with a roster spot by doing exactly what was asked of him.

“All he really did was make plays,” general manager Howie Roseman said after the Eagles formed their initial 53-man roster. “He catches everything.”

Moore joins DeVonta Smith, Hollywood Brown, Dontayvion Wicks, first-round pick Makai Lemon and Darius Cooper in Philadelphia’s six-player receiving corps. Britain Covey was released during final cuts but returned on the practice squad. The Eagles signed Moore after he spent part of the 2025 season with Denver. The former second-round pick brought experience and inside-outside versatility to a group undergoing significant changes behind Smith. Roster numbers worked against several other candidates, including Covey, Quez Watkins, Danny Gray, Erik Ezukanma and Samari Toure. Moore separated himself through reliability rather than one spectacular preseason performance.

That distinction matters in Sean Mannion’s offense. Jalen Hurts needs receivers who will be in the right place, create separation, and secure the football when their opportunities arise. Moore demonstrated those qualities consistently during practices. Making the roster does not guarantee Moore a significant offensive role. Smith, Brown and Wicks entered the summer ahead of him, while the Eagles invested a first-round selection in Lemon.

Moore nevertheless gives Philadelphia an experienced option who can contribute from the slot or outside. His ability to provide dependable depth became even more valuable after Lemon missed practice time with a hamstring injury. According to Roseman, Moore’s roster argument ultimately became straightforward: When the Eagles gave him an opportunity, he made the play.

Since leaving Manchester United, Scott McTominay has been a revelation for Napoli in Serie A

Former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay will undergo surgery on a heart issue, Napoli have confirmed. The Scotland international will go under the knife for a corrective procedure following the onset of a mild, benign arrthymia.

The 29-year-old is set for surgery in the coming days but will be available after the international break in September for the Italian giants. Sky Sports Italia have reported that the condition can occur in athletes for various reasons but it will not affect his career.

A benign arrhythmia is an abnormal heart rhythm where your heart beats out of its normal pattern but it is not dangerous. According to the NHS, the beat can be too fast or slow or not be steady but some of the symptoms can be palpitations, shortness of breath, lightheaded or dizziness and chest pain or discomfort.

The surgery tends to be minimally invasive and uses specialised energy to neutralise the heart tissue triggering the irregular heartbeat.

The 29-year-old has played in each of Napoli’s opening two Serie A matches against Genoa and Como, where he was brought off before the hour-mark against Cesc Fabregas’ Como.

McTominay is among the trailblazers for English and Scottish footballers to enjoy success outside of the Premier League.

Since leaving Manchester United, the Scot has established himself as a key player for club and country, becoming a driving force in the sucess for Napoli and the Tartan Army.

The 29-year-old has scored 27 goals in 82 appearances, contributing 10 assists. His efforts during Napoli’s Scudetto-winning campaign in 2025 saw him earn a place among the list of esteemed footballers to win the Serie A footballer of the year.
