Mexico v England puts fans in the UK in a difficult position with the World Cup last 16 tie taking place at 1am on Monday 6 July.

With the tournament taking place on the other side of the planet, many games have been kicking off after midnight in the UK, another difficulty is avoiding the overnight results when looking for highlights.

The BBC and ITV have the rights to all 104 games in the UK and both broadcasters have made their highlights spoiler-free on their respective streaming sights, BBC iPlayer and ITV X.

On both platforms, the thumbnail does not show the result. You’ll want to go the World Cup hub on iPlayer, or just the main home page on ITV X. Fifa’s highlights page also offers the same package.

For this game in particular, with Thomas Tuchel’s side ready to tackle the notorious Azteca atmosphere and altitude in Mexico City, fans can actually watch the game in its entirety on Monday morning from 6am BST.

But the BBC has also confirmed that it will show the game again from 7.10am BST on Monday, meaning any fans not going out to watch the match, with pubs permitted to stay open until 5am BST, can avoid spoilers and start their week with plenty of sleep from the night before.

“World Cup knockout football is absolutely unmissable, but a 1am kick-off isn’t realistic for everyone,” Alex Kay-Jelski, the director of BBC Sport, said.

“We wanted to make sure there was an option for those fans who just can’t stay up to experience one of England’s biggest matches live. So, whether you’re staying up to watch every minute live or waking up to catch every moment spoiler-free, BBC Sport has you covered this Monday.”

England manager Thomas Tuchel had previously urged parents to let their children stay up to watch the game – even if it meant missing school.

A full rerun of the match will be available on the BBC iPlayer from 6am BST on Monday. Kelly Cates will present the programme, with former England internationals Wayne Rooney, Micah Richards and Joe Hart providing punditry.

YouTube can be more of a minefield, with thumbnails and headlines often giving away the result or at least a clue as to what unfolded the previous evening. ITV’s are safer than the BBC’s, though, as they make sure they avoid the scoreline in the thumbnail. With Mexico v England on the BBC, YouTube might be one to swerve, with the iPlayer or the re-run more likely to ensure fans avoid knowing the result.

Every single game in the competition will be available to watch on free-to-air TV for UK viewers.

Floyd Mayweather has named five active fighters, four of them current world champions, who he believes are among boxing’s most elite.

“Benavidez is a hell of a fighter. We’ve [also] got Keyshawn Davis, and we’ve got Shakur … Devin.

“There’s [also] the little guy from Japan [Inoue]. Japan got some good fighters too.”

Of all five names, former world lightweight champion Davis is perhaps the most peculiar, given that he is yet to claim a career-defining victory.

As the mandatory challenger to Haney’s WBO welterweight title, though, ‘The Businessman’ could soon prove that he belongs on any pound-for-pound list.

I haven’t seen much out of our neighbors to the north that I’ve been overly impressed with. They’ve scored at least one goal in every game and gotten two shutouts, so there is some stuff to hang their hat on.

For Morocco, they had a much more difficult task of getting the victory against the Netherlands. They won in penalty kicks, and it was a wild shootout. They also haven’t actually lost a match yet and have just one draw. This should be a tight game, and a draw at +245 is where the value lies, in my opinion. I’m not going to tell you it’s a safe bet, but I think these two teams are a bit more evenly matched, and neither seems to be super aggressive on offense. Give me the draw.

Paraguay vs. France

If you watched the Argentina game yesterday, you know that lines don’t always tell you the full story of how things will go. The Argentinians were massive favorites and Cape Verde gave them all they could handle. Argentina won 3-2, but it took extra time to get there. Paraguay has a chance to do that today against France. France is -1600 to advance, meaning even if it goes to penalty kicks, France is still the massive favorite. Paraguay beat Germany in penalty kicks for their win to get here. It was their best game of the tournament.

France has looked unstoppable. They are still the favorites to win the World Cup. If you’ve watched them, and even if you’re not a soccer enthusiast, you can see why. Kylian Mbappe has been dynamic and continues to rack up goals. He is a real threat to Messi and the Golden Boot. He is -205 to score a goal today. I prefer his teammate, Ousmane Dembele. I think so much attention goes to Mbappe, Dembele, who already has four goals himself this tournament, gets less attention and easier looks. I’m going to play him to score at +105.

The 2026 World Cup is into the Round of 16 on Saturday, July 4, and co-hosts Canada kicked things off in the early match, where they dropped a 3-0 decision to Morocco. Ismael Saibari, Morocco (+180)

The versatile forward, who has spent his entire club career in the Netherlands with PSV Eindhoven, finished off the Dutch with his penalty kick in Tuesday’s shootout. He also scored in all three group stage games and has been the best player on the field for large stretched of Morocco’s matches. The 25-year-old is set to join Bayern Munich next season, and he is breaking out in a big way. Saibari was named last season’s Dutch Player of the Year and has 42 goals In 142 appearances in the Eredivisie. He should continue to make his mark with a goal in this critical match. 

Jonathan David, Canada (+350)

David is the key to the Canada attack, and he and Tajon Buchanan both will be looking to make more of an impact after both struggled in the past two games. David had a hat trick in the 6-0 victory against Qatar but has been mostly bottled up since. Morocco are tough in the back but can be beaten on the counter-attack, and if the Canucks are going to pull the upset, David is going to be the catalyst. I was leaning toward Promise David at the same price, and while he could (and probably should) play a big role, he has been coming off the bench so his playing time is uncertain. 

Bradley Barcola, France (+170)

Les Bleus have an embarrassment of great players beyond Mbappe, and Barcola is one of the emerging stars. The 23-year-old has 25 goals over the past two seasons with PSG in France’s Ligue 1 and has five in his past 19 matches (nine starts) with the national team. It’s easy to get lost in the shuffle on this France side, but Barcola has been demanding attention. He has two goals in the World Cup, including one off the bench against Senegal. That Mbappe guy is really good so if you don’t mind the juice or are building a parlay, he’s a good bet, but so is Barcola. He could net you a decent profit with a goal here.     

The Round of 16 match between France and Paraguay in Philadelphia is set to be played in excess heat, with temperatures expected to cross 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit). To make matters worse, there is also the threat of thunderstorms. However, as it stands, the match will not be postponed, and it will begin as per schedule.

Most golfers have been taught to keep their heads down when chipping. But according to three-time major champion Padraig Harrington, the opposite feeling may be the key to cleaner contact, more spin and a better short game.

The secret? Learning to use the ground.

If you watch elite players closely, you’ll notice something most amateurs haven’t mastered quite yet. As the club approaches impact, they apply pressure to their lead foot and then rise up through impact.

“We’re not trying to stay down. We’re not trying to keep our head down,” Harrington says. “I’m actually pushing myself back up with that left foot. It gives an absolutely beautiful strike.” 

It’s a subtle move that’s almost impossible to spot at full speed, yet it plays a major role in producing those crisp, spinny chips.

While it’s difficult to detect in another golfer’s swing, it’s surprisingly easy to learn yourself.

Train ball-first contact with a simple alignment stick drill

As Harrington demonstrates, a simple alignment stick drill is a great way to groove this feeling. Just place a stick‚— or other alignment tool — on the ground to mark the midline of your stance. Then, play the ball two or three inches in front of it.

Your objective is simple: strike the ball without touching the stick. If you can consistently miss the stick, you’re training yourself to bottom out after the ball, producing the clean, ball-first contact every good chip requires.

Once that strike becomes second nature, add in the pressure shift. As your club approaches the ball, press into the ball of your lead foot and allow that pressure to push you upward through impact.

“Get yourself left. Stay left. You have to trust that, okay?” Harrington says, “We don’t want any of this backing up.”

An easy way to check whether you’re doing it correctly is to look at your lead leg after impact. If your lead knee remains bent, there’s a good chance your weight has drifted back during the swing. If your lead leg has straightened, you’ve likely used the ground properly.

“If your knees bend … that’s because your center of mass has gone backward and that’s counterbalancing it by going forward,” Harrington says. 

“Whereas, if you get yourself left, you’re just going to post up like so.”

Perhaps the biggest benefit is that this feeling doesn’t stop at your short game. The same pressure shift and ground force that Harrington teaches for chipping are a fundamental part of an athletic full swing. Master it around the greens first, and you’ll not only hit crisper chips with more spin, but you’ll also build a movement pattern that carries through the rest of your game.

The undefeated colt Omolong is being targeted for the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes during the 2026 Melbourne spring carnival, following his recent stylish victory at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday which kept his perfect record intact.

Omolong unleashed a powerful finishing surge to achieve his second win from as many starts in the Thank You ATC Members Handicap over 1100 metres.

Leading trainer Chris Waller indicated that Omolong would now enjoy a brief spell before being set for feature races later in the spring carnival.

“I’m predicting he will have a great future,” Waller said of Omolong. “A race like the Coolmore down the straight (Flemington) later in the spring I think will be ideal. Obviously, there is a lot of improvement still to come for him to do that but he’s still very raw, still developing, and I think there is a lot of upside to him. He has always shown us a lot of promise, he’s a bright, shining star.”.

Omolong, who was a drifting favourite at $3.10 with Australian betting sites, came from off the speed and sprinted impressively to catch Seeiaye ($6.50), with Satin Summer ($5.50) finishing third just over a length behind.

Kotor, a $3.10 equal favourite on debut, showed early speed but faded from the turn and finished seventh.

Waller commented that “Omolong has a lot of natural talent” and is expected to continue improving with racing experience and maturity as a spring three-year-old.

“The Golden Rose will come around too quickly for him so we will pick out something mid-spring and aim him at the Coolmore Stud Stakes,” Waller stated. “I remember Northern Meteor started late in the spring before winning the Coolmore so it will be that style of preparation for this colt.”

Star apprentice Siena Grima recorded her 29th city winner of the season on Omolong, placing her just one win behind Braith Nock in the Sydney apprentices’ premiership race.

“Omolong was a bit sweaty behind the gates, but he was still walking in nice, relaxed circles,” Grima reported. “He got into a beautiful spot and travelled lovely from there. He is very leggy and raw. He’s still got a lot to learn, so I didn’t want to upset him. I had him on the bridle travelling, which is what I was happy about. I just let him build from the five (hundred), got a lovely cart into the straight and once he was balanced up and in a good rhythm, once I went for him he continued to find.”

Waller praised Grima’s handling of the pressure in Sydney racing, noting her maturity exceeded her years.

“This is one of the toughest (riding) jurisdictions in the world but Siena continues to deal with that and is doing a fantastic job,” Waller remarked.

Omolong, the promising son of Newgate’s highly-rated sire Extreme Choice, was a late-season foal, born on December 19 three years ago.

Breeder Gerry Harvey, who retained 10 percent of the colt after selling him to Yulong for $850,000 at last year’s Magic Millions June Sale, was instrumental in convincing Newgate Farm supremo Henry Field to extend Extreme Choice’s breeding season into January.

Field admitted that without Harvey’s persistence, Omolong may not have been born. He recalled his conversation with the breeder about Extreme Choice as if it were yesterday.

“I was actually at a Keeneland Broodmare Sale (USA) when Gerry called,” Field told Racing And Sports earlier in the week. “Gerry asked if he could breed some mares to Extreme Choice in January. I told him no as the season traditionally finishes at the end of December. But I have to thank Gerry for ripping into me and giving me the kick up the backside I needed to have a rethink about Extreme Choice.”

Harvey, who doesn’t often accept rejection, ultimately convinced Field to take a different tack with Extreme Choice. When Field relented, Harvey sent several mares to Extreme Choice that January three years ago, including Samarmeteors, who was already the dam of stakes winner Prost. Omolong is the result of that particular mating.

Serena Williams’ Wimbledon comeback has been brought to a premature end after the 44-year-old was forced to withdraw from her first-round doubles match with sister Venus Williams due to a knee injury.

With a combined age of 90, the tennis legends were set to play their first match together in four years against Solana Sierra and Camilla Osorio. Serena returned to singles on Tuesday, but injured her knee in a defeat to Maya Joint.

“I’m heartbroken to have to withdraw from doubles,” Williams posted on Instagram. “Coming back to compete again has been a gift, and the opportunity to play alongside Venus once more meant the world to me. I did everything I could to be ready, but unfortunately my knee just isn’t ready to compete.”

Elsewhere, Alexandra Eala made more history for the Philippines as the 21-year-old rising star stunned defending Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek to extend her record run to the fourth round. Eala, the 29th seed, won 7-6 6-2 in two hours and 14 minutes for the biggest win of her blossoming career as well as the most significant upset of this year’s Championships.

Meanwhile, Arthur Fery, the last British player left standing in the singles, kept his Wimbledon run alive with a stunning five-set win over Zizou Bergs to reach the fourth run for the first time. In the all-American on Centre Court, former Australian Open champion Madison Keys knocked out last year’s runner-up Amanda Anisimova.

Once again, Fery managed to block out the distractions, with his epic 2-6 7-5 2-6 7-6 (3) 7-6 (10/5) over Bergs ensuring there will be a British player in the fourth round of Wimbledon.
