LIV Golf awarded world ranking points for 2026 season
Competitiors on the LIV Golf Tour will be able to win world ranking points from the 2026 after a decision from the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) governing board ruled in favour of the tour’s application.
LIV Golf began in 2022 as a breakaway tour to the established professinal PGA Tour and DP World Tours having been founded by Saudia Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
Each tournament lasted 54 holes instead of the usual four-round 72 holes played on the American and European tours and LIV was created with unique rules and teams to try and capture a similar vibe to that of the Ryder Cup. LIV has switched to 72 holes for the 2026 season, though that wasn’t a big obstacle in getting world ranking points because other smaller tours around the world also have 54 hole events.
It drew big name players such as Phil Mickelson, Ian Poulter and Dustin Johnson whilst creating a rift with the PGA Tour in particular from which the players had to resign their memberships. Earlier this year Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed announced their intentions to leave LIV and seek reintegration into the PGA Tour.
Also in 2022, LIV applied to the OWGR with a submission for the tour to be awarded world rankings points for its players but was unsuccessful. The OWGR rejected the first application in October 2023 when former chairman Peter Dawson said the board could not fairly measure LIV against the other tours. A year later, the then CEO Greg Norman advised that LIV would no longer be seeking OWGR approval for ranking points.
However, LIV received a boost on the eve of its fifth season when the OWGR approved that the league will receive ranking points for the very first time in 2026.
A statement from OWGR reads: “The Governing Board of the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) today announced its decision on the application from LIV Golf.
“After conducting an exhaustive and collaborative process, and in an effort to reflect the changing landscape of the men’s professional game, the OWGR Board has made the decision to award world ranking points to LIV Golf events for the 2026 season.
“Ranking points will be allocated to the top-10 finishers (and ties) in LIV Golf’s individual stroke play events, which recognises there are a number of areas where LIV Golf does not meet the eligibility standards set out by OWGR.”
The decision was unanimous but the OWGR board but comes with conditions. Only the top 10 players in each event will receive points.
Tyrrell Hatton at No. 22 and Bryson DeChambeau at No. 33 are the only LIV players in the current top 50 of the world rankings.

Oilers can wrap up home ice in playoffs with win over Canucks
Apr 13, 2026; Edmonton, Alberta, CAN; The Edmonton Oilers celebrate a goal scored by forward Connor McDavid (97) during the second period against the Colorado Avalanche.Rogers Place. Mandatory Credit: Perry Nelson-Imagn Images The Edmonton Oilers cannot win the Pacific Division, but home-ice advantage in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs remains in play for the two-time defending Western Conference champions as the Vancouver Canucks arrive on Thursday for the regular-season finale.
Edmonton also will welcome back a key contributor, Zach Hyman, who has not played in two weeks.
The Oilers (40-30-11, 91 points) have a playoff spot sewn up. Which spot remains up in the air, as Edmonton, the Anaheim Ducks (42-33-6, 90 points) and the Los Angeles Kings (35-26-20, 90 points) all play on the final day of the regular season.
Edmonton holds a one-point lead over both division rivals and owns the regulation-wins tiebreaker over both (31 for Edmonton, 25 for Anaheim and 22 for Los Angeles), so getting to overtime would clinch the division’s second-place spot.
However, a regulation loss at home to the Canucks (25-48-8, 58 points), who own the NHL’s worst record, could create chaos depending on what the Ducks do in Nashville and the Kings do in Calgary. The Oilers still could end up in the division’s second or third spot, or they could fall all the way to the conference’s last wild-card spot.
If the latter happens, Edmonton would have a best-of-seven series against the Colorado Avalanche, who own the league’s best record. Colorado claimed a 2-1 shootout victory in Edmonton on Monday.
Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch told reporters after practice on Wednesday, hours before the Vegas Golden Knights won the Pacific Division title with a 4-1 home win over the Seattle Kraken, that the plan for Thursday was to play to win and get the best seed possible.
The return of Hyman will boost the Oilers’ chances, the coach said. In just 57 games, the forward ranks third on the team with 31 goals. Hyman, 33, last played on April 2. Since then, he has been out with an undisclosed injury as the Oilers wanted him ready for the postseason. Knoblauch noted the team’s past four games, a 1-1-2 stretch that includes three one-goal losses, show Hyman’s value.
“He’s cleared and he’s healthy,” Knoblauch said, “so I think that it’s a good idea to put him in and see what he can do. Obviously, it’s not just him finding his game and getting ready for the playoffs. (Thursday) is a very important game for us.”
Despite the Canucks being in last place, they have embraced a spoiler role in the past week. Vancouver has won three straight, all in overtime or a shootout by a 4-3 score. The games were on the road against the Ducks and a San Jose Sharks team that was then still in contention, and Tuesday in the Canucks’ home finale against the Kings.
Jake DeBrusk scored two goals against Los Angeles, including the game-winner at 2:58 of overtime. Even though the Canucks’ season will end Thursday night, coach Adam Foote is happy with the way the team came together after the trade deadline that saw the club deal several veterans.
For instance, right after Vancouver took a 2-1 lead in the first minute of the second period on Tuesday, the Kings tied it 12 seconds later and took the lead after another 73 seconds. Foote said that if that happened earlier in the season, the Canucks would have spiraled. In this instance, they rallied.
“We’re doing things right,” he said. “We’re playing as a team. They’re sticking to the game plan.”

Bernardo Silva announces Manchester City departure as free agent in official statement
Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva has confirmed that he will be leaving the club at the end of his current deal in June.
The 31-year-old has been linked with a departure from the Etihad Stadium for a large part of the season, having donned the Manchester City skipper’s armband since the Blues bid farewell to Kyle Walker and Kevin De Bruyne last summer.
Silva joined Manchester City from AS Monaco for £43 million in 2017 and has established his status as one of the club’s all-time greats, having made the most appearances a player has ever amassed under Guardiola throughout the Catalan’s managerial career.
A six-time Premier League winner, the Portugal international lifted his first piece of silverware as Manchester City captain in March as the Blues beat Premier League leaders Arsenal – whom they face this Sunday – in the Carabao Cup final.
Manchester City assistant coach Pepijn Lijnders confirmed in a recent press conference that Silva is into his final few weeks at the Etihad Stadium – and the Benfica academy graduate has finally confirmed that he will be starting a new chapter next season.
Announcing his departure on his social media platforms, Silva said:

“Cityzens,
When I arrived 9 years ago, I was following a dream of a little boy, wanting to succeed in life, wanting to achieve great things. This city and this club gave me much more than that, much more than I ever hoped for. What we won and achieved together is a legacy that will forever be cherished in my heart. The Centurions, the domestic quadruple, the Treble, the Four In A Row and much more. It wasn’t that bad 😉
In a few months, it’s time to say goodbye to the city where not only we won so much as a football club, but also where I started my marriage and my family. From the bottom of my heart, Ines and Carlota, thank you!
To the fans, your unconditional support throughout the years is something that I will never forget. My main goal as a player was to always play with passion so you guys could feel proud and well represented on the pitch. I hope you felt that every single game. I arrived as a Man City player, I leave as one more of you, a Man City supporter for life. Keep supporting this young team and I’m pretty sure they will bring you a lot of new fantastic memories in the future.

To the club, Pep, the staff and all my teammates these 9 years, thank you for all the memories and for letting me be a part of this journey for so long. The atmosphere we created every day in the training ground made me feel at home and a part of a big family. Let’s enjoy together these last weeks and fight for what this season still brings us.
Love you all,
Bernardo.”

2026 debut win for $2.7m St Gotthard, Switzerland’s little brother
Carrying a $2.7 million label and star-quality bloodlines, St Gotthard was the focus at Warwick Farm, and the colt met the hype head-on.
The margin was only narrow, yet the brother to 2024 Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Switzerland showed resolve, responding boldly to the challenge from runner-up Peyton to secure Wednesday’s Kia Ora Bloodlines to Headlines Handicap (1200m) by a half-neck.
Jockey James McDonald praised St Gotthard as innate talent, adding that his auction price lost relevance post-sale.
“It means nothing. He’s just a beautiful horse and everything he does, he does with ease,” McDonald said.
“He’s got a nice nature. He’s the full package.
“He was in foreign territory there being outside the leader and left in front a long way from home. He just felt like he floated a little bit, but he’s got plenty of talent and he’s a beautiful horse going forward.”
Chris Waller honed Switzerland and will advance cautiously with the youngster.
While Queensland’s winter carnival is an option, Waller’s main goal is developing St Gotthard for a prosperous three-year-old program.
He also filled third, fourth and sixth spots with Nations League, Wonka and Lafite, considering the runs essential groundwork.
“They need to have a few runs to get ready for their three-year-old year, so that’s the first box ticked for all four of our horses here,” he said.
“It’s great to get horses up to Queensland, or if the weather holds in Sydney to keep them here too. You can win a Saturday race in Sydney for $160,000 and with BOBS bonuses, it’s almost equal to a Listed race in Queensland.
“So here is the main centre of attention. Obviously, we’ve got the Group One J J Atkins if we get up that far, but the next few weeks we’ll be letting go some good two-year-olds.”
David Payne fielded thrilling filly Bangkok Hottie, who went from fifth in the Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) to victory in the Hyland Race Colours Handicap (1200m).
Bred by champion Too Darn Hot, she caught Payne’s eye immediately, prompting a break for spring targets like the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m).
“We’ve always had an opinion of her. Her first run, we were going to run her at Gosford, and she drew badly, so I said to the owner, ‘let’s give her a run on a big track and teach her to settle, she won’t disgrace herself ‘and if she’d drawn a gate, I think she would have been right there,” Payne said.
“She will go for a spell now, and I’ll bring her back for the Princess Series.”
Bangkok Hottie, a Thompson family homebred, joins their history that includes 2000 Caulfield Cup hero Diatribe.

Oleksandr Usyk sums up Tyson Fury’s performance against Makhmudov
Oleksandr Usyk has shared his thoughts on Tyson Fury‘s display against Arslanbek Makhmudov.
This past weekend saw Fury make his return to the ring after not competing since his two defeats to Usyk in 2024, taking on imposing Russian Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
Fury was comfortable throughout the contest as he claimed a one-sided unanimous decision win, but certain onlookers believe ‘The Gypsy King’ showed signs of rustiness as he took part in his first fight in 16 months.
Usyk himself has now weighed in on his former rival’s performance, telling The Ring that he thought it was a good victory for Fury.
“Tyson’s win is good. I watched the first six rounds. I remember maybe fourth/fifthround, Makhmudov punched Tyson and I say ‘be careful, woah woah Tyson hands up please.’ Congrats. Great. Good [come]back.”
Some fans have criticised Fury for being unable to stop Makhmudov inside the distance, and in a separate interview with The Stomping Ground, Usyk also admitted that he wanted to see that happen.
Tyson’s win is good. It’s a win. It’s not loss. Maybe a lot of people want Tyson to knock him out. Me too. 12 rounds. Tyson win. Congrats.”
Fury is now hoping to finally secure a showdown with long-term rival and countryman Anthony Joshua, with ‘AJ’ also having suffered two losses to Usyk earlier in his career.
Having taken on both men, the Ukrainian has made his prediction for how a potential bout between ‘The Gypsy King’ and Joshua would go.

RBC Heritage 2026 parlay, props, predictions: PGA longshot picks from proven model
Two-time green jacket winner, Rory McIlroy, is taking a well-deserved break after the Masters, so you won’t be able to target him when constructing a 2026 RBC Heritage parlay. However, any PGA picks or golf props can utilize several others who competed at Augusta, such as Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas or Shane Lowry. After his runner-up last week, Scheffler is the +390 favorite in the RBC Heritage 2026 odds, followed by Schauffele (+1500), Matt Fitzpatrick (+1600), Cameron Young (+1800) and Russell Henley (+1800). Four of the top five favorites this week finished in the top 10 at the Masters, with Fitzpatrick being the exception.
Meanwhile, Lowry recorded an ace at Augusta, and predicting a hole-in-one is an RBC Heritage pick that could go into your golf longshot parlay. Every player in the field has +10000 golf odds to notch an ace at Harbour Town Golf Links, and the four par-3s on the course give several chances to do so. Play begins at 7:05 a.m. ET on Thursday. Before making any 2026 RBC Heritage picks or golf parlays, you need to see this PGA Tour parlay from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

SportsLine’s proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020.
This same model has also nailed a whopping 17 majors entering the weekend, including the 2026 Masters — its fifth Masters in a row — as well as last year’s PGA Championship and Open Championship. Anyone who has followed its golf betting picks could have seen massive returns on betting sites.
Now that the 2026 RBC Heritage field is locked in, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times. It has locked in betting picks to form a golf parlay that pays out almost $90,000 for a $10 bettor. See the picks and full parlay by heading to SportsLine.
Top 2026 RBC Heritage parlay, PGA Tour picks
For the RBC Heritage 2026, one of the picks featured in the model’s PGA Tour parlay is Chris Gotterup Top 10 finish at +310. Gotterup has three top 10s this season, incudling a pair of victories, and he held his own in his first Masters appearance, notching a top 25 finish. He’ll compete at the RBC Heritage for the first time, but his strengths as a ball-striker should play well at this course.
Gotterup bombs off the tee, ranking fourth in driving distance, as his driver should eat up a course which is among the shortest on the PGA Tour at just over 7,200 yards. Overall, Gotterup ranks in the top 16 in strokes gained: total, SG: tee-to-green and SG: off-the-tee. With a sixth place finish in his last non-major, and with Gotterup ranking sixth in FedEx Cup standings, betting him to record a top 10 this week is a golf prediction worth making. Hugo Ekitike ruled out for season and World Cup with serious Achilles injury
Liverpool have confirmed Hugo Ekitike has sustained a serious Achilles injury and will miss this summer’s World Cup with France.
The 23-year-old was injured during the first half of Tuesday night’s 2-0 Champions League quarter-final second-leg defeat by Paris St Germain at Anfield and the full extent of the injury became clear on Wednesday.
France boss Didier Deschamps revealed Ekitike would have to sit out the World Cup and Liverpool have now revealed scans confirm a rupture of the Achilles tendon.
“Liverpool FC can confirm Hugo Ekitike has sustained a serious Achilles injury,” the Premier League club said in a statement on Thursday.
“The forward had to be substituted during the first half of Tuesday’s Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield after a slip on the turf.
“Scans on the issue have subsequently confirmed a rupture of the Achilles tendon.
“Ekitike will therefore be sidelined for the remaining weeks of the club season and unable to participate at this summer’s World Cup with France.
“Further updates will be provided at the appropriate time, with Hugo receiving the full support of everyone at LFC.”
Ekitike, a £69million summer signing from Eintracht Frankfurt, was carried from the field on a stretcher, 31 minutes into Tuesday’s game.
He has scored 17 goals in all competitions for Liverpool this season and become a firm favourite with Reds’ fans.

Ohtani strikes out 10 as Dodgers send Mets to 7th straight loss
LOS ANGELES — Shohei Ohtani pitched one-run ball over six innings and struck out 10, which he had not done since 2021, and the Los Angeles Dodgers routed the Mets 8-2 Wednesday night, sending New York to its seventh straight defeat.
Dalton Rushing, who replaced Ohtani as designated hitter, hit his first career grand slam off Mets closer Devin Williams in the eighth. Kyle Tucker added a two-out solo shot — his first at home as a Dodger — off Austin Warren, making it 8-1.
Ohtani (2-0) had tossed 33 consecutive innings without an earned run before MJ Melendez’s RBI double in the fifth trimmed New York’s deficit to 2-1. It was his first earned run allowed since Aug. 27 against Cincinnati.
Ohtani wasn’t in the batting lineup during a mound start for the first time since May 28, 2021, with the Los Angeles Angels. Manager Dave Roberts said it was because Ohtani was still sore after getting hit in the back of his right shoulder by Mets pitcher David Peterson on Monday.
Ohtani’s strikeouts were a season high by a Dodgers pitcher. He twice fanned Francisco Lindor in a battle of All-Stars. The second time, Lindor laughed as Ohtani blew a 99 mph fastball past him on his 11th and last pitch to end the third. Ohtani smiled wryly.
Ohtani walked two on 95 pitches, 63 for strikes. He struck out the side in the sixth to end his outing. Ohtani had 22 swing and misses, his most with the Dodgers.
The Dodgers (14-4) swept the Mets at home for the first time since June 19-22, 2017. Along with sweeps of Arizona and Washington, the Dodgers are 9-0 against National League opponents this season.
The Dodgers led 2-0 on Hyeseong Kim’s two-run homer off Mets starter Clay Holmes (2-2) in the second. Teoscar Hernández added an opposite-field solo shot leading off the sixth against reliever Tobias Myers.
The Mets managed five hits playing their 11th game without injured slugger Juan Soto (calf). They were outscored 14-4 in the series.
Melendez was the only Met with any success against Ohtani, going 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles after being called up from triple-A Wednesday.
The Dodgers improved to 18-4 on Jackie Robinson Day — best mark in the majors — since MLB first declared a special day in 2004 for the player who broke baseball’s colour barrier in 1947 with Brooklyn.
Mets RHP Kodai Senga (0-2, 7.07 ERA) starts Friday against Chicago Cubs RHP Edward Cabrera (1-0, 1.62). Also Friday, Dodgers RHP Tyler Glasnow (1-0, 4.00) starts at Colorado against Rockies RHP Tomoyuki Sugano (1-0, 2.16).
