Man Utd did not win a trophy this season, but they are still regarded commercially among the world’s elite football clubs.
Manchester United have been named the world’s third most valuable club behind Real Madrid and Barcelona. United have been overtaken by Barcelona since Forbes published its last report 12 months ago.
Business magazine Forbes publishes an annual list of the world’s most valuable football teams, and United have been valued at £5.35billion this year. That represents an increase on last year’s valuation of £4.9bn, but the Reds have been overtaken by Barcelona on the list.

Forbes have named Madrid as the world’s most valuable club at £7.06bn, while Barcelona are the second at £5.57bn. Both Madrid and Barcelona competed in the Champions League this season, but United did not compete in Europe after finishing 15th in the Premier League in 2024/25.

Although Madrid and Barcelona sit at the top of the list, La Liga has only one additional club represented among the 30 most valuable teams. In comparison, the Premier League has six teams in the top 10 and 11 in the top 30.
Liverpool won the Premier League last season, and they remain fourth on the list with a valuation of £4.61bn, while Paris Saint-Germain have moved up to fifth with a valuation of £4.31bn.

Bayern Munich are sixth (£4.24bn), while Manchester City are seventh (£4.09bn), dropping down from fifth in last year’s report. Arsenal (£4.01bn) are eighth, Chelsea (£3.12bn) are ninth, and Tottenham (£2.23bn) sit 10th.
Last season, United missed out on Europe for only the second time since English clubs returned to UEFA competition after a five-year ban in 1990. The Reds had a chance to qualify for the Champions League by winning the Europa League, but they lost 1-0 to Tottenham in the final.
Ruben Amorim was sacked in January amid rising tensions with the board. Michael Carrick was appointed on an interim basis and secured Champions League qualification for next season with three games to spare.
United could bank up to £100m for returning to Europe’s elite competition due to prize money, broadcast revenue, ticket sales and merchandising, while they will receive an extra £10m from their kit supplier, Adidas.

As Paris Saint-Germain tightened the screws on Arsenal over two absorbing hours, the drums in the crowd behind the goal matched their relentless intensity. It was enough to push PSG past Arsenal 4-3 on penalties after the Champions League final in Budapest ended 1-1 after extra time on Saturday.

For all that Luis Enrique’s side possesses, sublime attacking talent, smart, physical defenders and nimble, creative midfielders, it is perhaps the Spanish coach’s greatest feat that this is a team in the truest sense.
“If the stars are at the service of the team, there is preparation and we can play football. That is our essence,” is how Enrique summed it up earlier in the campaign. And while world player of the year, Ousmane Dembele, scored the 65th minute equalizer from the penalty spot after Kai Havertz’ opener, he and the other stars play for PSG and not themselves.

Enrique reaps rewards of emphasizing the collective
That wasn’t always the case at the French champions, who are owned by the Qatari state. Their famous former forward line of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe dazzled in moments but often skipped their defensive duties.
“They are really difficult to play against,” Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta said. “That’s why they are champions two times in a row. And the individual quality they have, the manner of their coach. They are a top, top team.”
But Arsenal found delight in denying them the room to make that possession count and sought opportunities on the break or from set pieces.
Havertz finding form but frustrated
It was from the former that they went ahead in the sixth minute. The final’s only German player, Havertz, raced on to a block from teammate Leandro Trossard. He had half a field to run in and a goalkeeper to beat. But the angle was tight. The ball stuck briefly under his feet. He’s not the quickest. But Havertz chose not to take the safe option and hold on for support. Instead, he lashed a fierce drive past a static Matvei Safonov.

Once he escaped, doubled over, from the mob of players who clambered on him, he cupped a hand to the ear to hear those who traveled from London at the other end of Budapest’s Puskas Arena. In truth, he needed no help, such was the din.
Havertz has needed that support of late though. At the start of 2026, the 26-year-old had yet to play a game this season, after the latest in a series of serious injuries that have hampered his progress. He’s also endured criticism for not always being clinical, but with his one chance on Saturday, he was. Though Arsenal could not hold on to that early lead, the forward will head off on World Cup duty with his personal confidence high once again.

“Everyone told me from January how there is so much to play. That is where my momentum also shifted and I am just happy that I am here again now,” he told the Guardian ahead of Saturday’s match. “I try to help the team every day. I tried that also when I was injured, just to help them off the pitch. That is always important.”
Gabriel the fall guy as Arsenal quest goes on
That team ethic is of as much importance to Arteta as it is to his compatriot, Enrique. It is one of the reasons Havertz was picked to start over big-money signing Viktor Gyokeres. Havertz repaid him with a performance filled with the link-up play, physical presence and pressing that Arteta, and Arsenal fans, demand.
It wasn’t enough though and his evening, like so many others in red, ended in tears. Arsenal’s exertions off the ball were beginning to show towards the end of normal time. Both Bradley Barcola and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia fired wide from a similar position to where Havertz found the net.

But the Londoners, while posing little threat, stubbornly held on to force extra time. And then penalties. But they’d go no further, after defender Gabriel sent the decisive kick high into those PSG fans.
Gabriel had been crucial to the resilience that thwarted PSG in open play. His pained collapse onto the turf may be a defining image of the 2026 final. But for Enrique, this game, and indeed any game, is won by a team of individuals. Once again, he has the best one in Europe.
Esteemed trainer Robert Garcia is intrigued to see how Canelo Alvarez performs against Christian Mbilli, especially after the “beating” he was dealt by Terence Crawford.
With Crawford having become a three-division undisputed king, his exit from the sport left behind a selection of four world titles, including the WBC strap.

As a result, Mbilli was elevated from ‘interim’ to full WBC champion which, in turn, saw him land the opportunity to face Canelo in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on September 12.
Unlike his next opponent, though, Mbilli appears to be in his athletic prime, capable of fighting at a high pace while perhaps lacking a degree of defensive finesse.
The 31-year-old could therefore pose problems for Canelo, who Garcia expects to complete his assignment with no shortage of difficulty.

Speaking with YSM Sports Media, the top trainer highlighted Mbilli’s durability as a key factor, interested to see how Alvarez responds to such resistance.
“Mbilli’s tough, man. He had a really good fight with Lester [Martinez], and Lester’s also a great fighter, so it’ll be interesting to see how Canelo comes back after that beating he took [against Crawford].
“It’s a close fight; I’d still favour Canelo [over Mbilli], but it’s not going to be easy.”
At 35 years old, many suspect that Canelo is on the verge of retirement, yet a win over Mbilli would surely keep him in the mix for big fights at 168lbs, or perhaps even 175lbs.

Dennis Hull, a five-time All-Star forward for the Chicago Blackhawks and the younger brother of Hockey Hall of Famer Bobby Hull, died on Saturday, the team announced. He was 81.
No other details were given with the announcement from Blackhawks owner and CEO Danny Wirtz.
“The Chicago Blackhawks are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dennis Hull earlier this morning,” Wirtz said. “Dennis enjoyed a distinguished career built on his scoring ability and consistency, leaving lasting contributions not only to the Blackhawks franchise but to the game itself.”
Hull played the first 13 of his 14 NHL seasons with Chicago (1964-77) before finishing his career with the Detroit Red Wings in 1977-78 after a trade.
He played in five All-Star Games, including four consecutive seasons from the 1970-71 through 1973-74 campaigns, and was selected a second-team NHL All-Star in the 1972-73 season.

Hull totaled 654 points (303 goals, 351 assists) and a plus-22 rating in 959 regular-season games. He also recorded 67 points (33 goals, 34 assists) in 104 playoff games. He played for the Blackhawks in three Stanley Cup Finals (1965, 1971, 1973).

Dennis Hull played for Canada against the Soviet Union in the 1972 Summit Series and totaled two goals and two assists in four appearances as Canada triumphed.

Call it a coincidence or a stroke of good fortune at the start of his 20s, but the reigning world champion managed to bounce back from a poor start to the game and defeat his compatriot R Praggnanandhaa under the panoramic roof of the Deichman Bjørvika library in Oslo on Saturday. Heading into Saturday’s clash, Gukesh found himself at the bottom of the pack with 3.5 points. However, with this crucial victory over Pragg, the 20-year-old, who will defend his World Championship crown later this year against Uzbekistan’s Javikhir Sindarov, has climbed to third place on the leaderboard, trailing tournament leader Alireza Firouzja by only 3.5 points.On the board, the all-Indian clash perfectly illustrated the enduring charm of classical chess.
Playing with the white pieces, Praggnanandhaa gained space with an advanced c5–c6 pawn chain and active queenside play. BALTIMORE — John Schneider put it simply following the Blue Jays’ nightmarish loss on Saturday evening.
“We were playing with fire the whole day,” said the Blue Jays manager, minutes after the Orioles staged a ninth-inning comeback to complete a 6-5 win in front of a boisterous crowd at Camden Yards.
Blue Jays starter Trey Yesavage walked a career-high seven batters over his five frames yet navigated trouble effectively and was in line for the win as his club entered the ninth with a comfortable four-run lead.
However, right-hander Jeff Hoffman entered the game and after striking out the first batter on a nasty splitter, he suddenly and dramatically lost command of that pitch along with his slider.

Here’s how it unfolded:
“Just lost the zone,” said Schneider of Hoffman. “Kind of the theme for today.”
Hoffman was removed with one out and the bases loaded as the Blue Jays were clinging to a one-run lead. Connor Seabold entered the near-impossible situation and walked Adley Rutschman to tie the contest, before Pete Alonso ended it with a single through the right side.
The loss snapped the Blue Jays’ win streak at four and prevented them from climbing above the .500 mark for the first time since the season’s opening week.

Yesavage walked the first batter he faced on Saturday and it was quickly apparent he didn’t have his best stuff. He loaded the bases with one out in the third and fourth innings yet escaped both threats by inducing double plays. The right-hander made pitches when he needed to but was helped by the Blue Jays’ stellar defence, which turned four double plays on the afternoon.
“It’s frustrating,” Yesavage said. “I’m a professional baseball player. Shouldn’t be walking seven guys. But defence stood tall behind me and backed me up and got me out of some jams.”
In total, the 22-year-old right-hander allowed just one run on two hits, with four strikeouts against his seven walks on 92 pitches (48 strikes). His typical swing and miss, particularly from his splitter, was not there as he generated seven whiffs on 39 swings.
“It was just one of those days of spraying all over the place,” said Yesavage, who noted he plans to look back at video to see what he can deduce from his struggles.

“He laboured,” said catcher Tyler Heineman. “It’s pretty amazing that he got five innings in and only allowed one run. That just means he did a really good job of bearing down when he needed it.”
Meanwhile, the Blue Jays offence built a lead with RBI doubles from Jesus Sanchez and Kazuma Okamoto. Ernie Clement added a run-scoring single while Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 4-for-5 to raise his batting average to .302.
Yariel Rodriguez, Tyler Rogers and Louis Varland each contributed scoreless frames setting Hoffman up for the ninth inning.
Schneider said that if the Blue Jays had scored one more run and increased their lead to five, he would have opted to bring in Seabold instead of Hoffman to begin the ninth.

“I mean, bullpen’s running hot, you know, we are cycling through guys and we’re aware of that,” said Schneider. “We’re trying to keep guys’ appearances and innings down and things like that and it’s tough to do sometimes.”
Hoffman’s meltdown interrupted what has been a positive stretch for the reliever. He hadn’t allowed a run over his past six innings, striking out 10 without issuing a walk.
The right-hander pitched on consecutive days twice during that span and Schneider pointed out the bullpen as a whole has carried a hefty load during the club’s current stretch of 17 straight games without an off day, which will finally arrive Monday.
“We’re asking a lot of them,” said the manager. “And outings like that happen. It sucks. It is unfortunate when you go into the ninth with the lead, but these guys are all pitching a lot and we’re asking them to cover a lot of innings, asking them cover a lot of high-leverage innings. So, this kind of stuff happens, but they’ve really put us in this position, I think, to where we’ve gotten. And it’s tough, 17 in a row, you know what I mean?

“So, you got to regroup tomorrow, quick turnaround and get after it.”
Spencer Miles will start in the series finale but given that he’s not yet built up to five innings, the Blue Jays will need to ask for even more from their beleaguered bullpen on Sunday.
Shedeur Sanders may not have gotten the first-round draft pick money he was searching for in April 2025, but the Cleveland Browns quarterback still cashed in on a different source.
Thanks to the NFL Players’ Association’s endorsement agreements, Sanders made $17.7 million in group licensing income for the 2025 season, per Front Office Sports.
That money comes from all jersey sales, trading cards and other collectibles purchases by fans, and it’s a record-breaker.

Sanders surpassed legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady, who made $9.5 million in 2021-22, by a sizable amount.
Sanders’ Browns contract is just over $1 million per season, inking a four-year, $4.647 million rookie deal before taking the field in 2025. He infamously fell in dramatic fashion during the NFL Draft, as he not only didn’t go in the first round, but he had to wait until Day 3 when the Browns finally called.
Cleveland had also drafted Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel, a fellow Heisman Trophy finalist, ahead of Sanders in the third round.
But Sanders’ fans were abundant and they clearly showed out in terms of merchandise purchases and then some.
Also, the report made sure to point out Sanders’ other endorsement deals that he likely received as he entered professional football, bringing his rookie season total money near $20 million, if not over.

Sanders came into the NFL with tons of hype and anticipation from football fans and experts alike, seeing if he could handle the most elite level in the sport.

However, he had to wait for his time with the Browns, with veteran signal caller Joe Flacco starting for now-ex head coach Kevin Stefanski’s squad at the start of the 2025 campaign.
Sanders eventually got his first start for the Browns on the road against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 12, helping them to a 24-10 victory. He went 11-of-20 for 209 yards with a touchdown and interception.
Stefanski announced that Sanders would be the team’s starter for the remainder of the year, as Cleveland was out of the playoff hunt and they clearly wanted to see their rookie develop. He ultimately threw for 1,400 yards with seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions, while owning a 3-4 record across seven starts.

Now, while the hype continues for Sanders, he still must fight for that starting job entering 2026. Deshaun Watson is finally back healthy and he has been splitting first-team reps for the Browns at voluntary practices under new head coach Todd Monken, who comes over from the Baltimore Ravens.
Texas State is coming off a late come from behind victory over USC on Friday. They now face the Aggies of Texas A&M. The Bobcats eventually beat the Trojans with less at bats, less hits and better pitching.

A very similar story came out of the Texas A&M vs Lamar game. Less at bats, less hits, but better pitching. The question in this game could come down to the better pitching staff and the team that can generate runs, especially later in the game.

Both teams are adequately good at creating scoring opportunities. The question will be, which pitching staff can slow down the opposing offense.

Eric Cole will arrive at Colonial Country Club on Sunday with a unique opportunity in front of him. If he can hang onto the one-stroke lead he’s built up over 54 holes in Fort Worth, he’ll earn the first PGA Tour victory of his career. If he hopes to break through on the biggest stage, he’ll have to hold off a couple of talented pros playing alongside him in the final grouping.
Just a stroke behind Cole’s 12-under lead sits Ryan Gerard, who is seeking his second career Tour victory after winning the Barracude Championship last summer. Playing alongside the duo will be Mac Meissner, who is another stroke behind and is also looking for a maiden victory. The trio will go off in the final group of the day at 12:55 p.m. ET.

Sophia Wilson scored on a penalty kick in stoppage time to give the Portland Thorns a 2-2 draw with the Utah Royals on Saturday in a matchup of the league’s top teams.
In other National Women’s Soccer League matches, the Washington Spirit beat the Seattle Reign 2-1; and the Kansas City Current topped the Boston Legacy 1-0.

The Thorns (7-3-3) took a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute on a goal by Olivia Moultrie.

The first-place Royals (7-2-3), unbeaten in their last 10, leveled the match on Kiana Palacios’ header in the 44th minute. It was the first goal that Portland had conceded at Providence Park this season and ended a 637-minute home shutout streak.
Mina Tanaka found Cloé Lacasse in the 50th minute to give Utah a 2-1 lead.
Alexa Spaanstra fouled Jayden Perry in the box for the penalty kick that Wilson converted for her fifth goal of the season.
Second-place Portland is unbeaten at home over 10 regular-season matches stretching to last season.

Hershfelt gets go-ahead goal for the Spirit
Hal Hershfelt scored her first goal of the season in the 81st minute to give the Spirit (6-2-3) the win over the Reign at Audi Field.
Spirit midfielder Leicy Santos opened the scoring in the 18th minute off a free kick from outside the box.
The Reign (4-5-2) equalized in the 44th minute on an own goal from defender Lucia Di Guglielmo.

Hershfelt’s winner deflected off defender Jordyn Bugg.
Current remain unbeaten at home
Reigning league MVP Temwa Chawinga scored her seventh goal of the season in the 69th minute to lead the Current (7-5-0) over the visiting Legacy.

Goalkeeper Lorena made three saves for her third clean sheet of the season.

The Current head into the summer break with an unbeaten home record (6-0-0) and now have a 23-match unbeaten streak at home (20-0-3).
The Legacy (2-7-3) are winless in their last three.
Current defender Kayla Sharples went down in the second minute with an injury and left the field as a concussion substitute seven minutes later.
Paris Saint-Germain successfully defended their UEFA Champions League crown after defeating Arsenal 4-3 in a dramatic penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw after extra time at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.
Arsenal made the brighter start and took the lead inside six minutes through Kai Havertz. The German forward capitalised on a defensive error before rifling his effort into the roof of the net to hand Mikel Arteta’s side an early advantage.

The Premier League champions controlled much of the first half, frustrating PSG with their disciplined defensive structure. Fabian Ruiz came closest for the French side before the break, heading over from a Nuno Mendes delivery as Arsenal entered half-time with a 1-0 lead.
PSG emerged with greater urgency after the restart and gradually began to dominate possession. Arsenal’s resistance eventually cracked in the 65th minute when referee Daniele Orsato awarded a penalty after Cristhian Mosquera brought down Khvicha Kvaratskhelia inside the box. Ousmane Dembele stepped up and calmly converted to level the scores at 1-1.

Both teams pushed for a winner in the closing stages of normal time. Vitinha squandered a glorious opportunity from the edge of the area, while Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Bradley Barcola both threatened on dangerous counterattacks. However, neither side could find a decisive goal, sending the final into extra time.
PSG looked the more dangerous side during the additional 30 minutes, with David Raya producing crucial saves to keep Arsenal alive. Despite late Arsenal pressure and a final opportunity from Viktor Gyokeres, the contest ultimately headed to penalties.

The shootout remained level through the opening exchanges before Nuno Mendes missed PSG’s third penalty and Declan Rice converted for Arsenal. However, Eberechi Eze dragged his effort wide in the next round, allowing PSG to regain control.
After successful penalties from Achraf Hakimi and Lucas Beraldo, Gabriel Magalhaes blasted Arsenal’s decisive kick wide, sealing a 4-3 shootout victory and a second consecutive Champions League title for Luis Enrique’s side.
