Robert Garcia sums up Nakatani’s chances of beating Nayoa Inoue in mega fight

Published

on

Next week, Naoya Inoue and Junto Nakatani are set to collide in the biggest fight in the history of Japanese boxing, with the undisputed super-bantamweight title on the line.

Inoue is one of just three fighters to have become a multi-divisional undisputed world champion in the four-belt era, joined by only Terence Crawford and Oleksandr Usyk in that extremely elite club.

At super-bantamweight, it took ‘The Monster’ just two fights to capture all four belts, defeating a pair of unified champions in Stephen Fulton and Marlon Tapales, and he has since gone on to defend his titles on six occasions.

Meanwhile, Nakatani vacated the unified bantamweight world titles and debuted up at 122lbs back in December, but underwhelmed on his divisional debut against Mexico’s Sebastian Hernandez Reyes.

As a result, fans are now expecting that Inoue will retain his titles once again, in what looks to be the toughest test of his career thus far. However, trainer Garcia warned on The Spit Bucket podcast that Nakatani’s power could prove less forgiving than that of the previous fighters who have dropped ‘The Monster.’

“He has a challenge against Nakatani. People might be counting him out but Nakatani is a very dangerous fighter. His style is one of those tough, strong fighters that has tremendous power.

“I think Nakatani is going to put up a great fight, he has got great power and Inoue has been dropped a couple of times. I don’t think that the fighters that Inoue has been dropped by are as good or have as much power as Nakatani has.

“He [Nakatani] is a solid guy, man, and he is going to put up a good fight. I still pick Inoue, yes, but it is going to be a really good fight.”

Inoue has hit the deck against both Luis Nery and Ramon Cardenas and will be hoping to prove more elusive when he and Nakatani collide on Saturday, May 2, at the Tokyo Dome.

Ingram struggles offensively as Raptors fall to Cavaliers in Game 2

Published

on

CLEVELAND — Careful what you wish for.

Intentionally or not, Toronto Raptors all-star Brandon Ingram made himself the focal point of the discourse leading up to Game 2 of the Raptors first-round series with the Cleveland Cavaliers when he lamented his lack of offensive opportunities in the Game 1 loss.

“At the end of the day, me shooting nine shots is not going to win basketball games,” he said.

In context, it was as much an admonishment for his own lack of activity in the second half of that game, when he scored just four points and had one field goal attempt, as it was a call to action for the coaching staff or his teammates.

But the Raptors pledged to get Ingram more involved in Game 2.

Well, Toronto can’t beat the Cavs when Ingram takes 15 shots either. Not when he makes just three of them and finishes with a measly seven points. His five turnovers didn’t help either.

Ingram’s subpar outing — more than 14 points under his career playoff scoring average and his career low in 12 post-season starts — wasn’t the sole reason the Raptors lost 115-105 to Cleveland to fall behind 2-0 in their best-of-seven series, but it was a big factor.

The Raptors looked much more like themselves in Game 2 as they made Cleveland work much harder for their points and used a much more tenacious defensive effort to generate 14 turnovers and score 16 fastbreak points, just below their league-leading season average and a big improvement after being held to just three in Game 1.

Elsewhere, the Raptors were bolstered by 26 points from Scottie Barnes, 22 from RJ Barrett and 17 off the bench from rookie Collin-Murray Boyles, who added seven rebounds and played well enough that he started the second half over Jakob Poeltl, who was ineffective (two points in nine minutes).

The Cavaliers thwarted the Raptors’ defensive efforts with some elite shot-making from their trio of stars. Donovan Mitchell led all scorers with 30 points, while James Harden and Evan Mobley had 28 and 25, respectively. The Raptors’ 22 turnovers also cost them.

The Cavs shot 53 per cent from the floor and were 11-of-32 from three, while Toronto shot 50.3 per cent and was 7-of-26 from three.

The third game of the series is in Toronto on Thursday (8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+).

Oscar De La Hoya sees only one winner in prime Mayweather vs Crawford: “He’s the better fighter”

Published

on

Oscar De La Hoya has shared his thoughts on how a potential Floyd Mayweather vs. Terence Crawford fantasy match-up would have gone.

Mayweather and Crawford are regarded as two of the best fighters in recent memory, with Mayweather dominating the sport throughout the 2000s and 2010s before ‘Bud’ took over the mantle during the past decade.

Each man has the honour of retiring undefeated, winning world titles in multiple divisions along the way, and one common opponent that they both share is Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez.

Mayweather defeated Canelo back in 2013, with Crawford accomplishing the same result last September, and it is those performances that leads fellow icon De La Hoya to make his prediction for a proposed match-up between the two greats.

Speaking to FightHype, De La Hoya revealed that he would back Mayweather to come out on top.

“Floyd toyed with Canelo. He literally toyed with him. He didn’t get hit at all, not one time.

“Crawford is more of a fighter/boxer and Floyd is more of a boxer, but I think Floyd is much more superior than Crawford. Not just because he beat me and it was a close fight, but I feel technically Floyd is a better fighter.”

That win over De La Hoya came back in 2007, and while Mayweather did retire in 2017 with a perfect 50-0 record, it was announced that he would return to the ring this September for a clash against former foe Manny Pacquiao, though the bout has recently been thrown into doubt.

India may rest top stars for Afghanistan Test, final call with management | Exclusive

New Delhi: The Indian cricket team faces a packed international calendar after the IPL 2026 concludes on May 31, and the management will monitor workloads before finalising squads for the subsequent assignments. With only a few days separating the IPL final and the one-off Test against Afghanistan (June 6-10), top players might be rested for the red ball contest and play the ODI series that follows instead.TimesofIndia.com has learnt that the management will make the final decision, but the idea is under discussion, and selectors will monitor how far the regular Test players advance in the IPL. The discussions around it will remain fluid since no World Test Championship points are on offer and there is a strong possibility that star players – including captain Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah and other regulars in both ODIs and Tests — will sit out.

Is T20 ruining India’s test cricket?

The situation could well change if, for example, the Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians are not in playoff contention. With all options on the table, a final call is expected when the selectors finalise the squad for the Test and three ODIs.“There is not much gap between the IPL final and the Afghanistan Test, so the selectors and management will be wary of not burning out the players, as there are three ODIs, then the white-ball series in England. “There are no WTC points in the Afghanistan Test, and the stakeholders need to carefully manage the workload because some of the players would be on the road for close to two months and have a lot of cricket in the remainder of the year. “ODIs and WTC are priority right now, and you want your best players to be fit, fresh and available for the four Tests – two vs Sri Lanka and two vs New Zealand – and the many ODIs. Why even risk a Bumrah for this Test?” said a source tracking developments.

It is further understood that the selectors have been tracking fast bowlers and spinners in the domestic circuit; maiden call-ups could be on the cards for the fixture in Mullanpur starting June 6. Gurnoor Brar has impressed the men who matter, and so has left-arm spinner Manav Suthar. Both have been part of the India A set-up and will be included in the scheme of things along with Harsh Dubey, Auqib Nabi and Devdutt Padikkal if the workload management opens up slots. Nitish Kumar Reddy’s improvement in the bowling department will keep him in discussions.“One thing is clear with this selection panel: they rarely jump the gun. It’s no secret that Gurnoor and Manav have been very impressive, as have Harsh, Auqib and Devdutt. It will all boil down to the discussions between the thinktank and the medical team because optimum utilisation of resources is going to be key here. No point putting your star players under the sun for a five-day fixture which offers no WTC points.

“And there is little turnaround time between the Test and ODI series. So you will again be in the situation where a Test and ODI regular – say like Gill, Bumrah, KL Rahul and even Ravindra Jadeja – would switch formats from T20 to Test to ODIs in less than a month’s time. The captain and coach have been very vocal about such scheduling in the past and could have the final say,” adds the source.India have a packed schedule in June: Tests and ODIs vs Afghanistan, T20Is vs Ireland – and then a tour of England for a white-ball series featuring three T20Is and as many ODIs. Right after that, there is a three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe from July 23.

Mysterio also made an appearance during Night 1 of WrestleMania 42 to celebrate with Liv Morgan. The 31-year-old is in a storyline relationship with Dirty Dom, and she defeated Stephanie Vaquer on Saturday night to become the new Women’s World Champion.

WWE star opens up about working with Dominik Mysterio

Liv Morgan recently discussed her storyline relationship with Dominik Mysterio and claimed they were an iconic WWE couple.

Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on the INSIGHT podcast, Morgan suggested that they were the greatest couple in the company’s history. She suggested that they were better than CM Punk and AJ Lee, Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch, and Macho Man and Miss Elizabeth.

“But honestly, I think we’re just iconic. I know I say that word a lot, but we’re just iconic together. I think we’re the greatest couple in the history of WWE, and I don’t mean that, I’m not just saying that. I believe that wholeheartedly. We are better than Becky and Seth, we are better than AJ and CM Punk. We’re better than Macho Man and Miss Elizabeth, I stand on that. I stand on that… I feel like we’ve resurged couples in WWE. Like what couples were couples before Dominik and I? Now you have tons. You have tons of people coupling up, trying to do what we do, but they just can’t,” she said.

The greatest, hottest, most iconic & most dominant couple in the history of WWE ❤️‍🔥 @DomMysterio35 Crrrrrrrrry about it 😘
