Pakistan cricketer banned after testing positive for cannabis-related substance

Published

on

Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz has received a three-month ban from the International Cricket Council (ICC) after testing positive for a cannabis-related substance.

The sanction, announced by the governing body on Friday, can be reduced if the player completes a rehabilitation programme.

The 32-year-old was found to have Carboxy-THC – a metabolite of THC, the psychoactive component in cannabis – in his system following Pakistan’s Twenty20 World Cup match against the Netherlands in February.

Carboxy-THC is categorised as a Substance of Abuse under the ICC’s Anti-Doping Code.

Nawaz admitted the violation, with the ICC confirming that he had demonstrated that the substance was used out of competition and did not relate to sporting performance.

His three-month suspension was backdated to 1 May, the date he began a voluntary provisional suspension.

Having served approximately two and a half months under this provisional suspension and agreeing to undergo rehabilitation, his suspension has now been lifted.

In line with its anti-doping code, the ICC has also disqualified Nawaz’s records from the Netherlands match on 7 February and all subsequent matches up to 1 May.

Nawaz participated in all seven of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup fixtures this year, scoring 15 runs and taking seven wickets before their elimination in the Super Eights stage.

Pakistan are due to tour England later this summer for a three-match Test series that begins on 19 August. The first Test will be played at Headingley, while Lord’s will stage the second Test and the series will conclude at Edgbaston in September.

Nawaz could be included in Pakistan’s squad, having previously played six Tests for his country after making his debut in 2016.

However, he has not played a Test match since December 2022, when England secured a series whitewash in Pakistan under the captaincy of Ben Stokes.

Meanwhile, Nawaz has played 44 one-day internationals and 98 T20 matches for Pakistan, demonstrating his high-level skill in white-ball cricket.

He was part of the Pakistan side that made the T20 World Cup final in 2022. Pakistan were beaten by England in the final at the MCG, with Stokes hitting the winning runs after scoring his maiden T20 half-century.

Rosehill kick-off point for Charlton’s two runners in 2026

Published

Jockey in red and white silks rides a brown racehorse with blue saddlecloth on a turf track, rail and hedge in background, Royal Randwick signage visible.

A late-season two-year-old race is planned as a key indicator for Forest King’s future, with trainer Tom Charlton keen to ascertain the gelding’s spring racing potential.

The gelding will contest the Kia Ora Bloodlines to Headlines Handicap (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday, marking his return after a two-start debut campaign which included a win at Canterbury in February.

Stepping up to Group level in the Pago Pago Stakes (1200m), Forest King ran respectably, finishing seventh behind Warwoven, who later proved competitive in the Golden Slipper.

Charlton indicated that the young horse has returned in strong condition and is adequately prepared for a bold showing at Rosehill.

“He came up a bit short in the Pago Pago. We gave him a break, and he looks to have come back nice enough,” Charlton said.

“We’ll see what level he gets to this ‘prep’.

“He’s not the biggest horse, but he has improved, as you’d expect. And he’d need to.

“We’ll get him racing and he’ll find where he’s going to be competitive, whether it’s in better grade or similar grade.”

Dylan Gibbons will steer Forest King from barrier five, while Zac Lloyd partners the stable’s other runner, Roselyn’s Star, who is also resuming in the Schweppes Handicap (1100m).

The five-year-old is coming off his most consistent season to date, culminating in a Group 3 Star Kingdom Stakes (1200m) victory at Rosehill in March, and he generally performs well fresh.

“That was a really good win for him. He’s building a nice profile,” Charlton commented.

“He seems to have come back very well, and 1100 metres at Rosehill suits him. He has drawn slightly awkwardly, but it’s a nice place for him to start.”

Charlton has not yet finalised spring plans for Roselyn’s Star, but the Magic Millions carnival at the Gold Coast in January is a potential target.

“There is no real target. There are plenty of races in the spring,” he stated.

“I probably have, in the back of my mind, the Magic Millions in January. He qualifies for that, so we’ll probably look to take him back there at some point.”

Respecting Bron more than Curry”, “He worships Bron

Draymond Green has already thought of wearing a new jersey number on the Warriors if LeBron James joins him in Golden State. Fans reacted to the Warriors veteran revealing his new number as James’ rumors heat up. Warriors are among the top potential destinations for James as his free agency decision looms ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season.

Draymond Green on Thursday posted on Threads about switching to a new jersey number while sharing logic behind the new number. Green, who wears the Number 23 jersey for the Warriors, will change to Number 5 if James joins the four-time champion in the Bay Area. The Warriors ‘enforcer’ gave a mathematical explanation for the new number. He shared that the new number is simply the sum of the two digits of his current jersey.

“That had to be the pitch he offered bron,” another fan reacted.

“The Warriors are pathetic. One of the best Warriors players of all time giving up his number? Zero dignity,” someone said.

“Look at Dray showing off his math skills,” a fan commented.

“This dude glazes LeBron more than Steph, his own teammate,” another fan commented.

“It’s sad how much he worships Bron,” another fan reacted.

LeBron James wore number 23 while playing for the Lakers and the Cavaliers, which happens to be Draymond Green’s number on the Warriors. Green’s camaraderie with James is well known, but the Warriors veteran sacrificing his number has left fans puzzled.

Draymond Green has averaged 8.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 5.6 assists with the Warriors and has cemented his place as franchise legend. Warriors retiring Green’s jersey is inevitable, but his jersey number decision will only complicate the franchise’s planning.

Draymond Green Bluntly Calls Yaxel Lendeborg’s Pitch To LeBron James ‘Pointless’

Draymond Green, on his podcast on Thursday, weighed in on Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg’s attempt to recruit LeBron James to Golden State. Lendeborg on Monday during the Summer League Game interview lobbied for James to join the Warriors and mentioned Green in his pitch.

“Is the pitch too weak or too strong? I don’t know. I think the pitch is pointless, you know. But it’s fine. Training camp is coming soon enough and you know, got to rain the rookie in a little bit. You know, teach him a few things. Training camp’s coming soon enough. Yeah, it’s training camp will be here pretty soon. And I think you all know why I’m hitting at training camp. And yeah, it’ll get here soon enough, Yax. Enjoy all your media,” Draymond said.

Draymond Green addressed the rookie’s pitch with a stern tone and called it ‘pointless’. The Warriors’ veteran playfully implied that the No. 11 draft pick needs to focus on his game and shouldn’t get involved in recruitment. Green emphasized on the Warriors’ training camp, which will start soon, and showed eagerness to meet Lendeborg in camp.
