If, in the end, things go sideways at quarterback, then the Vikings will need to hit reset going into 2027. Quite possibly, that will involve moving on from Kevin O’Connell, but that’s a bit of speculation for a different day.
Who would the passer be to compete for the job if things fizzle?
Right now, Kyler Murray is looking to overcome J.J. McCarthy for the QB1 job. Next up is Carson Wentz, an elder statesman who is in town as an ideal QB3. Wentz can get inserted with essentially zero preparation before doing a nice job; Minnesota values that reality. Otherwise, Max Brosmer is the young fella being developed slowly, but his likeliest spot is on the practice squad.

A future where none of these passers are around beyond the current year is unlikely but not impossible.
Seattle’s Jalen Milroe as The Passer to Watch in 2027
In March of 2025, Minnesota said goodbye to Sam Darnold; Seattle then said hello to Sam Darnold. The rest is history (as they say).
The old GM got canned. The new GM came to town after doing tremendously well with the Seahawks. Already, the effort to improve the roster has involved bringing over talent from the Seahawks. Most of that has occurred around the edges of the roster, but do note that three of the four new players have a connection to The Emerald City.

Does that path back to the Pacific Northwest involve snagging Jalen Milroe?
The backup passer for Seattle isn’t going to usurp Darnold. The 29-year-old quarterback led his team to a Super Bowl victory while pushing Jaxon Smith-Njigba into the conversation for best WR in the NFL. He’s close to untouchable. Milroe can continue hanging around as an upside backup but that may not be the best use of the young arm for more than just another year or two.
Quite possibly, a trade will occur.
Chosen at No. 92 in the 2025 NFL Draft, Milroe is far from a lock to develop into a strong QB1 in the NFL. Part of what he has going for him is the history of soaking up wisdom from a strong starter while getting coached up by Mike Macdonald’s impressive staff.
Consider what was said about Milroe going into his draft by Lance Zierlein of the NFL’s website: “Milroe is an explosive athlete who is very capable outside the pocket, but he lacks accuracy, touch and decision-making when he’s inside the pocket. A lack of anticipation and timing leads to interceptions and contested throws to intermediate areas of the field. He has an NFL arm, but he might need to fine-tune his footwork and delivery to improve accuracy on all three levels. He can get through his reads when he’s confident and feels protected but becomes predictable and easier for defenses to manipulate when he’s rattled.”

More: “He’s built like a Will linebacker, runs like a receiver and is a threat to hit the home run on called runs and scrambles. Milroe was a much better deep-ball passer in 2023, but his 2024 regression makes it harder to project success from the pocket at a high enough rate to become a capable NFL starter. A strong arm and elite speed will have teams intrigued, but if he doesn’t make it as a starter, it’s incumbent upon his team to find a way to get the ball in his hands with packaged plays.”
Talented but raw, Jalen Milroe will have benefited from watching and learning without the starter’s spotlight. Maybe that will serve him well.

Nolan Teasley will know the passer well. So, too, will he be getting a good understanding of the in-house talent in Minnesota. There’s essentially zero chance of a swap during 2026. What could occur, though, is a future trade.
Seattle doesn’t appear likely to keep Milroe over the long-term since Darnold has worked out so well. Trading Milroe is a way to recoup value from the QB-starved NFL.
Minnesota doesn’t have much certainty beyond the reality of promise. The current quarterbacks are talented and are in the midst of a battle. If anyone emerges from the passers to put the starting position into a stable spot remains to be seen.

Fifa has scrapped its plan to sell stakes in the World Cup and other tournaments to private investors, after widespread backlash and threats of a boycott.
Fifa president Gianni Infantino proposed the controversial plan in July, declaring that a vote would determine whether or not it would go ahead, but there was anger and concern from many voices in the footballing world.
European football’s governing body Uefa even confirmed a boycott of the World Cup and other Fifa competitions, saying its member nations would not take part if Infantino’s plan was voted through.
The Asian Football Confederation and Concacaf, which represents 41 nations from North and Central America and the Caribbean, backed Uefa in their stance.
Despite Fifa hitting back in a statement that insisted “nobody is selling football”, the sport’s world governing body ultimately backed down.

A statement from Infantino read: “The Fifa Forward Enterprise project was intended to provide a basis for further strengthening our Fifa Member Associations and our sport worldwide, especially in those countries where support is most needed.
“And more so, as we said from the outset, to do this only if a majority of the Fifa Member Associations were in support and always subject to a consultation process with them, the Fifa Council, the Confederations and wider stakeholders.
“Having listened carefully to all the views, it has become clear that the project has created divisions of a nature that, regardless of the level of support, are no longer in the interest of the objective set out in the first place.
“Our purpose has always been – and will always be – to unite and improve. As a result, this proposal will not proceed.

“Moving forward, my intent is to bring all interested parties back together in the coming days and weeks in the spirit of shared interest in our game, and with the objective to continue growing football everywhere, particularly in those countries that mostly need our support.”
Pro Bowl offensive lineman Andrus Peat announced his retirement in a social media post Friday.
Peat, 32, played in the NFL for 11 seasons after being selected with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft out of Stanford by the New Orleans Saints.
“11 years in the league, I gave it everything I had. I may be walking away from football, but not from the lessons it taught me. Thank you to my coaches, teammates, and especially my brothers in the trenches. I’m grateful beyond words that I was able to live out this dream,” Peat wrote in his caption on Instagram.

Peat spent the first nine seasons of his career with the Saints, primarily as their starting left guard. He made the Pro Bowl in three consecutive seasons, from 2018 to 2020.
Peat was a key part of the Saints’ offensive line when the team won four straight NFC South titles from 2017 to 2020.

Peat left the Saints following the 2023 season and joined the Las Vegas Raiders as veteran depth on the offensive line. He played in 15 games with the Raiders, starting just one.
After one season with the Raiders, he joined the Pittsburgh Steelers in a similar backup role, appearing in six games and starting three.

There has been a concerning update regarding a popular WWE star and their injury situation. The promotion is set for SummerSlam 2026 this weekend at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minnesota.
Speaking on NotSam Wrestling, Lee shared a concerning update about his injury. The popular star noted that if he required surgery, he could miss 3-4 months of action, but he was hoping that would not be the case.

“I don’t know how long I will be out, but I don’t want to get surgery because if I get surgery, I’ll be out for 3-4 months, and I don’t want that,” he said.
The veteran also shared that he was told that he could “probably wrestle” with the injury and was hoping that the promotion would let him do so.

WWE RAW star Dragon Lee recently opened up about getting the opportunity to be in a tag team with AJ Styles.
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on the INSIGHT podcast, Lee stated that he was honored to work with Styles during his final run and that he was proud of himself.

Twitch streamer Zoil, who has over 240,000 followers on the platform, has found himself at the center of a fresh controversy after a clip from one of his recent livestreams went viral online. During the stream, viewers noticed what appeared to be the streamer anonymously gifting subs to his own channel while he was live, leading to allegations that he was artificially inflating his sub count.
The moment was captured in a clip shared by X user @ChumBucketDrama, where the complete anonymous gifting part appeared on stream. The clip was later reposted by another X user @WyydoggWYG, who called the situation “depressing” by writing:
“this is depressing, the fact that numbers can get to someone’s head like this especially subs scares me.”

The incident quickly sparked discussion on X, with several users criticizing the streamer.
“If you’re scared in any sense you’re child brained. The guy’s a ****** weirdo loser for this and needs to be bullied a bit about the situation.” Another user @areyous76505851 wrote

Twitch streamer Nick “Nmplol” says he reached out to Zoil over the controversy
Zoil’s friend and fellow Twitch streamer Nick “Nmplol” also addressed the viral clip during one of his livestreams. He revealed that he had already reached out to Zoil for clarification before drawing any conclusions. In a clip shared by user @ChumBucketDrama, he said:
“Yeah, man, I’ve been talking about that all morning in my Discord. I actually reached out to Zoil to see if he has a comment on it before I get too deep into the topic. Hopefully he’ll have something to say.”
Nmplol went on to say that if the allegations turned out to be true, it reflected a deeper issue within the streaming community. He also encouraged creators to be content with their real growth rather than chasing numbers.

He said:
“But my God, man. If that’s what I think it is, I’m just defeated. The deception runs so deep in this community, bro. My God, guys, just be happy with where you’re at. You know? Because there were only five entrants, Tarona Taafaki received a bye to the last four, meaning she was automatically guaranteed at least a bronze medal.
The 20-year-old lost her first and only fight in the women’s 75kg division – which was a semi-final – to India’s Lovlina Borgohain on Friday, losing every round on all three of the judges’ cards.
Taafaki’s coach and father, Badi Taafaki, says the population of the tiny Pacific island nation – at 10 square miles the fourth smallest in the world – will celebrate the medal and use it to highlight a climate change emergency.

“For the people of Tuvalu, this medal means everything,” he said. “We’re one of the smallest nations in the world, so a medal like this is hugely significant.
“If we can win medals, more people around the world will recognise Tuvalu and begin to understand the challenges we face because of climate change.
“It is very real for us. The coastal erosion is unbelievable, and the countdown is now measured in years, not decades.”

Tejaswin Shankar became the first Indian to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the men’s decathlon after battling a long-standing knee injury to claim bronze in Glasgow on Friday.The national record holder finished with a total of 7,976 points in the 10-event competition, which is held over two days. He competed despite dealing with chronic patellar tendinitis, also known as jumper’s knee, an injury that had forced him to withdraw from the men’s high jump event earlier in the Games.The 27-year-old was left emotional after having to pull out of the high jump following his opening attempt because of the injury flare-up.This was Tejaswin’s second Commonwealth Games medal after winning bronze in the men’s high jump at the 2022 Birmingham Games. But as per competition rules, both semifinal losers were awarded bronze medals.
Her coach and father stated the medal would be celebrated by the population of the 10-square-mile nation – the world’s fourth smallest – and serve to highlight a climate change emergency.

Badi Taafaki, whose son Pasoni also competed earlier in the Games, losing his opening bout at 70kg earlier this week, told the Press Association: “For the people of Tuvalu, this medal means everything.
“We’re one of the smallest nations in the world, so a medal like this is hugely significant. We have worked so hard to get here. For me as a coach, it’s a stepping stone.”
Tarona and Pasoni are the two oldest of eight children, all of whom are boxers. They are currently based in New Zealand, in order to take advantage of better facilities.
“When I was growing up, boxing barely existed in Tuvalu,” said Badi. “We didn’t have gloves, so we were forced to fight bare-knuckle, and hit bags filled with sand.

Athletes on the island famously train on its airport runway, the most stable land mass on an island increasingly threatened by rising sea levels. Climate experts predict half of the nation’s capital, Funafuti, could be submerged by 2050.
“Yes, we train on the airport runway,” said Taafaki. “When a plane comes in, everyone moves aside. As soon as it leaves, we go back on the tarmac, because there is nowhere else to train.

“Some islands have lost half their land. At high tide the sea comes right through. People living on the coast can’t sleep if there’s a storm, because the waves can come straight through their homes.”
Taafaki has big ambitions for his children, and for the future of the sport in Tuvalu. It was officially confirmed as a full member of World Boxing in 2024, allowing its boxers to fight in competitions organised by the Oceania Boxing Confederation.

“The biggest thing we are missing is the exposure,” added Taafaki. “You can only improve by fighting world class fighters. But we would like to go to the Olympics. The Olympics are the pinnacle of the sport, and that’s what all these kids are working towards.”
Taafaki is not the first boxer to win a Commonwealth Games medal without winning a fight. Australia’s Taylah Robertson picked up a bronze in the women’s flyweight category on the Gold Coast in 2018 despite losing her first bout to England’s Lisa Whiteside.
